I went to Prima on Thursday at 6:00pm for dinner with a friend. We had a reservation and I was there almost 20 minutes early but they were so accommodating and I was seated immediately! We sat in the back dining room, the restaurant is way bigger than I expected! The space is cozy while still remaining fancy. Noise level was ideal, not too loud or too quiet. We started with the meatballs, the house made mozzarella and a half portion of the snap pea salad. For mains, a half order of Spicy Pici and a half order of the Sweet Potato Agnolotti. It isn't written on the menu but they offer half portions of all 3 salads and most of their pasta. Service was great! They offered to take my coat and brought it back after we paid. Our waiter was so knowledgeable and had great recommendations. No one was hovering but was still very attentive. We spent less than $100 each for 1 glass of wine and more than enough food! The food itself was unique, but for the price, I expected more. I ordered the filet mignon, and unfortunately it came out overcooked and lacking flavor. For a $40 entrée, I would have expected it to be cooked properly and have a richer taste. The fries were also served cold. Despite these issues, I can see the potential in the food and believe the experience would have been much better if those problems had not occurred. The BACK ROOM is the best spot in the house. They made it seem like we'd be unhappy about it since we didn't have a reservation. It was the most beautiful spot in the whole place! The front was crowded and so loud. The back was quiet, you could actually talk, hear the music, etc. As someone who has to eat gluten free their offerings are great. One thing I want to point out is that their gluten free menu online shows EXACTLY the same items as the regular menu, this is NOT true. Please call ahead for clarity so you won't be disappointed. I've been to Prima previously and it's always very lovely. The spicy pici pasta dish is my favorite, always so flavorful. However, the portion was definitely smaller than the previous orders of it I've had. Also I had to wait almost an hour even though the restaurant had less than 5 tables filled during lunch. The scallop dish was tasty but ultimately left a bit to be desired as the the raw scallop was very room temperature almost warm in an unsettling way and the butter in the dish started to solidify quickly which was a weird texture. All the flavors were still very complimentary. My server was extremely attentive and kind! I will definitely return but there was just a few quality issues. read more

I had the field job melanie's, which was excellent and a true value for the price. My fiancé had the lobster which she loved. As someone with celiac I absolutely love the dedicated gluten free night here. You would never know any of it was made gluten free, it's absolutely delicious. The focaccia bread is a must, idk how they get it so dense and squishy but it's the best with their ricotta. To start, the ambiance and service at Prima are both fantastic. Our waitress was so sweet and very efficient. The decor is gorgeous and it was a very warm inviting atmosphere. Our only gripe was how loud it was as the tables against the wall next to the bar. It was honestly hard to hear each other talk over the bar guests practically screaming. We started with the Pumpkin Arancini and a half order of the Sweet Potato Agnolotti. The arancini were super delicious but we didn't pick up any pumpkin flavor. The agnolotti was absolutely fantastic. We were wishing we got a full order! For our mains, we had chicken milanese and filet mignon. The filet was ordered medium rare but came out more on the rare side. The chicken was nicely cooked and crispy but the baby kale and pesto kind of overpowered the dish. For dessert we had the Spiced Apple Blueberry Crostata. It was absolutely outstanding. 10/10! Decor and ambiance are a vibe, definitely date night worthy. If you can, book a table in the back bar and ask to see the Park Room, both stunning. Service is wonderful. But a restaurant cannot live off of instagram worthy photo opts and good service alone. The food was underwhelming. It was all beautiful but the flavor was not there. The fried mozzarella and caviar was fine but needed salt and something bright/tart to set it off. Lack of salt was a theme throughout all the dishes I tried. The filet mignon was beautifully cooked, needed salt. Mashed potatoes were good, we really enjoyed the addition of sage. The fries were soggy and an awkward thickness, not crispy, needed salt and weirdly had what tasted like fried preserved lemon. And boy do they like their lemon and preserved lemons here! The chicken piccata though again lacking salt was overpowered with an overkill of preserved lemon bits which made the dish bitter and unenjoyable. Not impressed by the house made pasta. The pizza was fine, not something I would go back for. The best thing I ate was the torta gialla. We ordered the dessert trio but the torta was the only dessert worth ordering in my opinion. Cake was moist, chocolate fudge was perfect and the crumble added great texture and complementary flavor. The strawberry tiramisu was very muted and the chocolate mousse was a miss for me. It's dark chocolate and very rich, the olive oil is unnecessary here and only made the mouth greasy. Portions are fine. Went to prima for my birthday. Got a reservation a bit late so sat at the high tops. The place had a nice aesthetic and really didn't get overly busy, though all tables were sat at and had reservations. The music choice was nice and staff were very friendly. We had an excellent waiter who came to check on us often. Our food took a bit to come out, but it was well worth it. We started with a flatbread which was very delicious and well made. My partner had a chicken parm which was huge, which came with a side of red sauce pasta which was very good and home made. I ordered a 12 oz filet with a side of mashed potatoes. Both were incredible. I am a huge fan of the rosemary encrusted filet which itself didn't really need the side of sauce i got with it. The mashed potatoes were super rich, flavorful, and buttery. Probably the best ive had since being here in the boston area! For dessert we got a chocolate cake and pumpkin chocolate cake thing. Both delicious and the one I got even had gold fake on it. Very nice. Prices were more on the expensive side, but the cost to food ratio in my opinion is really good for what you get. We had leftovers for the next day and they were still great. I've been to Prima 3-4 times and each time is been great! What we've eaten recently: - Bread Plate: Would suggest, the fresh ricotta is great - Caesar Salad: really really good caesar. Highly suggest - Snap Pea Salad: Good, if you want a salad but not the caesar. - Meatballs: Great meatballs! Can't go wrong with these. Save some bread to go with these - Rigatoni alla Vodka: Consistent, spicy and delicious. - Chicken Parmesan: Really really good! More chicken than pasta - Chicken Scarpariello: Amazing, very unique and delicious - Brandt Tomahawk: Steak was great and it fed 3+ men, but I wouldn't suggest it because other steaks on the menu are just as good. Don Melon is an excellent cocktail! The only downfall of Prima is parking can be difficult if you're looking for street parking. Paid lots are nearby though. It was lacking any flavor and candidly just tasted like rye on ice. The meat and cheese board is good - and the meatball appetizer is good. The marinara has a spicy side which we enjoy. The tuna crudo was rather basic, I wouldn't get it again. For our meals we got chicken parm, and veal parm. Both are oddly average. I wouldn't come back here for it again. Great ambiance and nice busy vibe. If only the food were good! Took my wife here for her birthday and was a bit surprised by how lackluster most of the dishes were. Eggplant Parmesan was decent but lacked a good red sauce (a core part of the dish!) Ribeye was well-done despite being ordered medium rare. Was also surprisingly fatty and gristly, really not a great cut. Saved by a good steak sauce, but at a steakhouse, the steak should shine on its own. Sweet potato agnolotti was supposedly in a brown butter Marsala sauce but neither of those flavors were detectable AT ALL. Dish was essentially tasteless. Truffle fries were cut too big, too tasteless and potato-y, and had no detectable trace of truffle. Grilled octopus appetizer was good, with a nice puttanesca. Our server, Jorge, was super helpful and answered our questions about the menu. We put in our drink and food order shortly after being seated. The cardamomo fresco was such a lovely cocktail that we ordered it twice! After a short wait, we got our food order with the scallop crudo appetizer along with fried mozzarella with caviar at 6:55. The scallops with brown butter and sweet potato were excellent! The fried mozzarella and caviar was also a lovely way to start the meal. After a bit of a longer wait, our entrees came out at 7:45. We ordered the chicken parmigiana and the spicy pici (hand-stretched Italian noodles). The chicken parmigiana was excellent and well-fried although it could've used a little bit more tomato. The spicy pici was also fantastic and the nduja meat sauce had a lot of flavor. After another longer wait, we got our dessert order at 8:10 and got the olive oil chocolate mousse. It wasn't too sweet and the olive oil definitely enhanced the dish! Took a while until we got our check and paid at 8:40. Overall, the food was fantastic, but the service was a little slow which may have been due to being understaffed for the potentially busier than normal Thursday night and/or the needy customer next to us complaining about her chicken parmigiana being too cheesy. We had a reservation at 8pm we arrived 15 mins earlier before the reservation. Even though we arrived earlier, the table we had requested was given to someone else. Which firstly disappointed us, since we were celebrating a dear friend & had specifically reserved that table for it. The ambience is definitely nice & cozy, dim lights, good music, and beautiful decor. Food was good, not impressed with it. We've tried better for a lower price. We were also not pleased with management, we were overhearing comments about our table, and were never fully informed that we would not be getting the table unless we waited over an hour for it! Management didn't seem interested in accommodating us at all. But despite all of this, we didn't let this ruin our night, & we still celebrated our friend. I really hope that there is better hospitality at restaurants that deem to be top tier, because being top tier also means being it within the parameters of service, hospitality, not just food, or restaurant name. I've been dying to try Prima since it opened last year, and I'm so glad I finally got my act together to make a reservation (it's no easy feat with how popular this spot has become). This place has quickly become one of the top restaurants in Charlestown, and it didn't disappoint. We started out with a dirty martini and a white negroni and loved both cocktails. I was pleased with the by-the-glass wine menu for my second round and I've already decided to make a return trip for the famous tiramisu martini--it looked amazing every time one went by our table. Our server had some really helpful recommendations, and we landed on the Burrata & Prosciutto (could not get enough of the poached grapes in this dish) and the Steak Tartare for appetizers. The tartare could have been more flavorful, it's probably the only thing from this meal I wouldn't order again. While Prima is an "Italian steakhouse" we really came for the pasta, and I couldn't be happier that we did. We split the Spicy Pici and the Orecchiette Al Limone and absolutely loved both. We opted for some of the more creative options for our first visit, but I'm pretty sad to have missed out on just about every other pasta on the menu after sampling these. The space itself is great too, it's got that cozy steakhouse feel, with plenty of modern touches, mood lighting, and a huge bar in the middle that was packed with people.
