My son and I stopped for a quick dinner in one of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge. It is not very big, but what it lacks in area space, it certainly makes up for in wonderful food. As with any good restaurant, its menu is well curated. While there is a nice outdoor dining area, given the heat of the day, we dined inside. Without reservations, we were accommodated at the bar. Reservations are a must. Bar seating is fine, there is ample space, not at all crowded. The bartender doubled as our waiter. He was very knowledge about the menu and personable. As an appetizer, my son and I split the chicken cutlet - which for some could be a meal. Delicious as always. As an entree, I ordered my favorite, the pizza margherita. My son ordered the same topped with sausage and prosciutto. There is no skimping on toppings here! The pizzas at "Si Cara", are a treat, very highly recommended. I had been to the South End location recently and had an excellent experience (though service was slow with only one person covering the entire restaurant). This location has no service - its counter-ordering and the food was not the same. The pizza had barely any ricotta though we paid up for it, and the toppings were so scarce that it was mostly crust (more than usual Neapolitan). The garlic bread was the same price but half the size. It was cafe style seating, not restaurant, and just a weak version of the South End location that I do not recommend. read more

I've seen this place talked about on social media for so long, so it's been on my list to try. Drinks- very limited beer menu. Bartender took some artistic liberties with our drinks which were a miss. For example, ordered a vesper and they didn't have lillet so subbed with elderflower liqueur rather than just making a regular gin martini, which is what I had requested if they didn't have lillet. Ordered the kale and apple salad- very missable and literally no dressing on it. Pizza- pizza was super small and not filling at all. I visited Si Cara last weekend with my boyfriend for date night and was so excited because it has a lot of hype on social media!! We started with some drinks, which were good but nothing outstanding. We shared the white bean dip, the prosciutto, the mushroom and guanciale pizza, and the apple salad. I will say I was a bit underwhelmed and felt that everything lacked a bit of flavor. The prosciutto was probably my favorite bite of the evening, and the flatbread that came with it was delicious! The crust on the pizza was the best part as everything else weighed the pie down significantly and it was pretty soggy. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but I was expecting to be blown away based on what I had seen online. The interior looks nice for a first date night spot or something, but that's really all there is to this place. In terms of food, it was just mediocre at best. First off, it was just way too hot in there for the amount of people seated. Our server was nice and friendly but after ordering our food and drinks, it took them about 15 minutes to come back to us to tell us that they forgot what our order was! The Sausage & Mushroom pizza was more mushroom than anything and the bread was not that great, also burnt. The snap pea salad was.... I don't even know how to describe it but I wouldn't get it again. Also, I don't know how this is considered a wine bar when you order a bottle and there are no wine glasses.... they give you a smaller water glass to drink your wine. This is a big no-no!!! I rarely finish entire pizzas but here I for sure took down the entire pie shamelessly (okay fine, there was a bit of shame involved). This pizza has the fluffiest, most flavorful crust I have ever had with a perfect woodfired char. Conotto is now my new favorite style of crust. The pepperoni ($23) was divine. The Tahini ($21) was interesting... I'll say it needed a bit more oomph (I took it home and added hot honey) but was still good. I would say in between the two I'd pick the red sauce though. Menu is not extensive but well curated with plenty of shareable appetizers and entrees to choose from. The fried mozzarella (triangle shaped, breaded and fried with a side of red sauce), eggplant parm (served with three small strips of focaccia on the side), and crispy Brussels sprouts (just the right amount of crunch with a touch of sweetness) are absolutely delicious. We ordered two pizzas to share- the Margherita was perfect, I wanted to like the lamb sausage more but the slight bitterness from the broccoli rabe marred it a bit for me (but the airily crunchy chickpeas were a nice surprise). Here's what our group tried: -Garlic bread: It's basically a mini pizza-crust pizza, with tons of garlic, olive oil and a bit of cheese. Finally had a chance to come here after making a reservation and it was WORTH the wait! I came to Si Cara before hoping to try it out but they were completely booked and the employees recommended I make a reservation for next time. I did so and we were served quickly! We got 2 pizzas for the 4 of us. Each pizza is about 13 inches so everyone got two slices (one of each). This pizza was the BEST pizza I've ever had. The potato and pesto tasted amazing. I loved the pesto sauce that they used and it went so well with the potato. The special pizza we got had apple, dill and pork. Thankfully, our waiter noticed we were trying to accommodate our friend who was vegetarian and offered to put the pork on the side. It was very kind of him! The special pizza was just as good with a lot of bold flavors that went very well together. The place itself was surprisingly busy for 6pm on a Thursday night but it seems to be this busy every day between people dining in and takeout. Regardless, the service was quick and the seating area was clean. The ingredients were scattered on top haphazardly and sparse. We saw our server once in the beginning for our order, and then at the end for the check. Nobody checked in to see if I wanted another drink or how things were. Its really disappointing how so many restaurants in the Boston and Cambridge area start off well out of the gate, and then fizzle. I went for lunch (but I've also been for dinner). They serve slices of pizza for lunch that are more Grandma's style (thicker crust, square). It's not super busy and the food comes out fast during lunch! I got the kale apple salad, white bean dip, beet salad, lamb sausage pizza, and chicken cutlet sandwich. The margherita and the meatball sub were both very good; they didn't skimp on the tomato sauce or the mozzarella or the ricotta (with the sub, despite the menu stating provolone) which were all very flavorful, and the garlic in the sub was noticeable enough to accentuate it well. The margherita was slightly salty but not too much to ruin the taste, and the dough was too thick to be pizza napoletana (but not as thick as american pizza) but nevertheless nice and soft. Si Cara is exquisite!! I've been craving some stone oven pizza for a long time and decided to give Si Cara a try & I was blown away. Right from entering the restaurant, you know that this is a legit spot. There's plenty of tables inside and outside(if the weather is right). The furniture is aesthetic and the lighting is so intimate. The server immediately sat us down and asked if it was our first time & offered their recommendations. Walked us through the whole process and selection of pizzas. I ended up getting the Margherita Pizza w/ some Olive Oil. It was so amazing from the presentation to the taste. I like my pizza a little bit crispy and the stone oven preparation was so perfect in getting the right bite! The toppings were plentiful & the crust was so soft. I love basil and appreciated that they added the perfect amount. Absolutely perfect. Next time, I'd really want to try their appetizers! So look out for those too! Regarding pricing, most of the pizzas range from $22-$30 which sounded fair to me given the stone oven preparation.
