We usually hang out in the Back Bay area when we visit our daughter at school in Boston. I have wanted to try Willie's for a while, so this time we decided to hang out in Beacon Hill. I have to admit getting a reservation was challenging, especially on a Thursday night for 7 people - 3 adults and 4 young ladies, including our daughter. It sells out FAST! Willie's is a small space. However, it is well laid out, and although our table was a little small for 7, we made do. It would be perfect for 6. They also have an outside area on Charles if you are so inclined. The food smelled fantastic, and we could not wait to order. We ordered some cocktails and wine, and our Manhattans were excellent. We started with cabbage-based Caesars that were excellent. The dressing was a hit with me. We also tried the outstanding meatballs. The sauce was superb. Then came the stars of the show - the pizza. We ordered a Calabrian hot honey pizza with Jamón Serrano, a pepperoni a la Vodka, and a P.C.T. The pizzas were outstanding!! When we were wrapping up, a well-dressed man came over to help with water. I asked if he was the owner, and he was. He spent 15 minutes talking to all of us about his place and other places he jointly owns in Boston. He was a true restaurateur and a gentleman. My wife and I ended up leaving there and visiting a cocktail bar that he also owns. I will say more about that in another review. Whatever you do, go to this place is all I can say. read more

Tried this spot after eating dinner next door at their sister restaurant and was not too impressed. We ordered the Calabrian karaage and 'Nduja pizza. The karaage was delicious but I wasn't feeling the pizza, there were dollops of gochujang that were off putting. Just seems like this place needs a bit more of a clearer direction. Flavors didn't mesh well and even the cocktails were interesting, and not in a good way. Service was great though and the ambiance was cute. We sat at a high top and could see into the kitchen. Our server was really knowledgeable about the menu and which items were vegetarian and safe for my allergies. The pizza sauce was a bit too garlicky for me, but my husband loved it. He wasn't crazy about the flavor in the meatballs though. The Campanelle A La Vodka with a sun-dried tomato cream sauce on the other hand was one of the best pastas I've ever eaten! After finishing eating here, I felt like I just got scam. The portion is small and the price is high. They are Italy dishes with Korean infusion. The food tastes okay. Nothing out of extraordinary. What a welcome addition to Beacon Hill that serves Italian food with a mix of Asian and Spanish flair. We tried a few dishes and we were surprised at their unique take on some of the traditional dishes. Here's what we got: Spaghetti Carbonara ($24) Must get! The combination of all the ingredients delivered in terms of complexity and flavor. In the initial bite, we tasted the umami of the bottarga and the parmesan dashima that perfectly coated the spaghetti. Then, after a few chews, the yuzu kosho popped in with a bright citrus note and a slight kick that cut through the richness of the spaghetti. Caesar ($16) This was unlike any caesar salad we've ever had. There wasn't as much napa cabbage, but a lot of thinly sliced celery that was crispy and vibrant. The anchovy migas on top added a hint of savory note. Overall, it was a light and refreshing salad. 'Nduja ($22 + $2 for Hot Tomato Honey) Personally wasn't our favorite. The pizza was on the smaller side, maybe 10-12 inches. It was crispy at the bottom, but the topping combination didn't go well together. The creamy pork sausage didn't add too much flavor or texture and the addition of the celery root was odd. Overall, we really enjoyed the pasta and the salad. We'd probably skip on the pizza next time. The service was fast and friendly. It is a small restaurant though so getting a reservation is a must! read more

New pizza and pasta place in Beacon Hill (a neighborhood with surprisingly few good restaurants) that I really enjoyed! I'm a sucker for vodka sauce and theirs was creamy and rich with bright bursts of flavor from sun dried tomatoes. The pasta was also well done. Similarly, the wood-fired pizza was very tasty (and fun to get to watch them make it with the open kitchen layout!) with crisp, thin crust and a good size for one person or to share for the table. Only caveat is that seating is a little snug - especially at the bar - but would definitely recommend! read more

I don't mean to be harsh, but tbh I would discourage ppl from coming here. For the price, I can't say anything was worth it in terms of flavor or portion size, and there's considerably better Italian food all around boston. I appreciate this spot's attempt to incorporate an asian flare into their dishes, but it really just misses the mark. The flavors are just average and even lackluster. To give them credit, I felt the service was very fast and amiable, and I enjoyed the texture of the noodles. The space itself was clean and modern, but otherwise it honestly felt cramped and the meal itself (general flavors) was not enjoyable or impressive. Everything fell flat. Perhaps they'll get the hang of things once they've been open a bit longer, but until then I would recommend you look elsewhere. read more

Great little spot that's definitely worth a visit--I'd recommend making a reservation! They have both cozy indoor seating and a great outdoor patio. The menu puts a creative twist on classic Italian favorites, with handmade pastas and incredibly fresh pizzas. Phenomenal new neighborhood spot on Charles St! I love the unique taste on Italian! We went for the Carbonara and the Funghi pizza along with a G&T and a Wall Banger to drink. We were sooo content with the whole meal, but my favorite was the Carbonara, particularly for the spicy kick. I also have to say, the service here did not miss. From hostess to server to owner, everyone was extremely attentive. Not surprised considering the excellent service experienced at Zurito, the sister restaurant nextdoor. Front of house staff was incredibly dismissive for walk ins and selected a 4 hour and 45 minute wait time when we gave our number for the wait list. I've worked in the food service industry for many years and I understand tables are held for reservations but the attitude and demeanor of the hostesses was very much "we are better than you," which is not the vibe I imagine Willie's is going for. We were seated on time. The greeter and waitstaff were pleasant. We ate on stools at an elevated table. It is a small restaurant but tables were appropriately spaced. The food was good but not the "great" that we expected. Contrary to the Globe review, we did not find that the pizza was "flawless". The chicken consisted of fried, light, tasty pieces; the 8-10 pieces were small - bite size. We had two pasta dishes. The portions are small, actually all of the portions were what I would characterize as "small plates" or a "tasting menu"; the pizza was also small. But we expected entree size portions. The pizza crust was stiff but not crisp. They do not serve a house salad, no bread with pasta, no iced tea, no decaf hot tea or coffee after the meal, and no dessert menu. If you want a filling full meal, or a birthday meal with a cake dessert, this is not the place to go. This felt more like a place you go if you want some small bites along with a glass of wine or beer, or a cocktail. Or if you were on a date and expected to spend more time talking than eating. I graded them 4 stars because I realize that they did a good job of doing what they probably intended, but not higher because I expected more, including a full filling meal. I was disappointed. My expectations were maybe too high after reading the review, but I do not expect to return. read more
