Then the rigatoni bolognese and the spicy lobster pasta were the ideal choices for the two of us. We especially loved the chew and texture of the fresh pasta. Service: This was the definition of seamless. The staff always had a purpose when they came by and it felt like we were being looked after. Incredible spot for a chic, modern Italian meal! Service was best of the best, and we were treated like family here at Geppetto. The drinks were lovely, and the food was to die for. Everything we had was done to perfection!! The garlic bread made my mouth water, the rigatoni was delightful and filling with a lovely bolognese sauce on it (tasted more akin to a vodka sauce, but I loved it so much!) and the dessert photographed here is a matcha strawberry tiramisu. Confused by all the high ratings from previous customers. My boyfriend and I had dinner for our anniversary tonight and we were incredibly disappointed by the food/service. We were seated for 30 minutes before our server greeted us/ asked for our order. After placing our order we waited over 20 minutes for our appetizers to arrive (after we asked where the food was). The server was passive aggressive and tried to correct us about the timing of our order.. which was untrue. She did not apologize for the long waits between dishes.. and the food itself was not worth the price we paid. Every dish we had was underwhelming and very poorly cooked. The FRITTO MISTO was mostly batter-- to the point I couldn't even taste the seafood itself. The fried shrimp tasted like frozen shrimp. Nothing tasted fresh. The hamachi collar was also very burnt. The crab pasta was mostly asparagus and snow peas. We barely had pasta-- proportions were bad and the dish itself was by far the worst pasta I've ever had. We waited 30 minutes for our pasta dish and it was flavorless. By the time it was time for dessert we had been dining in the restaurant for close to 2 hours due to the long wait times for our food (the restaurant was not busy btw). We also asked for our dessert to go since we no longer wanted to wait around. The server never informed us that the dessert would melt which dissolved almost immediately. Came here with reservations on a Saturday evening and we were seated and serviced almost immediately which was nice. The interior felt a bit classier than your average spot which would've been nice, but the dim lighting hindered my partner's parents' ability to read the menu which was a bit of a con. We got free mocktails due to how we made our reservation which was super nice - I'm not a fan of negroniis, but the drinks wasn't too bad. The menu had a good mix of sharable and entrees which all tasted fine - I loved the bread and butter as a starter. The pasta I got was tasty, however the portion was criminally small compared to the price. Overall, I thought most things were more on the expensive side. Finally tried this place that's been on my radar for a while and I live nearby so have no excuse for not going earlier. I was a little disappointed with how pricey the pastas were given the quality. The spaghetti bolognese was overcooked and under salted. The spicy lobster rigatoni was not cooked enough but the best of the two. I have no problem with $30 pasta but if the quality doesn't match the sticker price it's a bit upsetting for me. The garlic bread was okay however we were slightly disappointed they changed it as we were expecting the pull apart garlic bread that is photographed a lot here. The tiramisu definitely added some points back when we hit dessert. Very delicious and we devoured quickly. Service was spot on with my waitress giving me great wine recs. A really beautiful and unique perspective on Italian cuisine. Everything we ordered has excellent flavor, perfect cooking and textural balance. The sunchoke pasta was my favorite dish by far. Cocktails were also lovely - particularly the Enzo Gorlomi martini (A nod to Inglorious Basterds, maybe?). Taramisu is non-traditional and ate a little closer to a cheesecake. *Very* good. Geppetto was stellar! My favorites of what we ordered: the fried mozz appetizer (I've never seen it made or presented in this way before, with crispy bits layered on top and a delicious tomato sauce on the bottom), the lobster pasta, and the ginger pan cotta dessert. Things I would skip next time: the Caesar endive (not bad and I appreciated the inclusion of anchovies, the hallmark of a good Caesar, but the croutons tasted a little stale and I admit I am just not an endive person). I'd recommend getting the garlic pull-apart bread as a shareable on the first visit but aside from the pillowy innards, I thought the other dishes stood out more, particularly the two desserts. If you love boozy coffee desserts, you definitely need to get the tiramisu but I preferred the ginger panna cotta - my mind absolutely blown, one of the best desserts I've had in a while. I could have gotten my own order. Our waiter was awesome, gave us lots of great recommendations. We were trying to decide which dessert to get, including the special (some sort of napoleon), and I appreciated his very strong endorsement of the other two, which was borne out by how we licked the plates clean. So Geppetto is on the first floor and Lexington is on the second floor to clear up any confusion. Really liking the ambiance here as you have a good view of the outside with the large windows. Service was excellent with our server checking up on us regularly and was able to provide great drink and food recommendations. He was always smiling and created a great eating experience for us. Food: - Brussel sprouts 4/5 - Excellent starter. The brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly with a crispy outside and soft inside. The flavor was perfectly balanced and couldn't stop eating - Garlic bread 4/5 - Smelled delicious on arrival and did not disappoint. The presentation was like a giant muffin that's easy to pull apart. The soft insides was well paired when dipping into the whipped ricotta. I loved how it was nice and warm on arrival and the garlic spread on top really gave this bread a good kick. - Sicilian Crudo 3.5/5 - Surprisingly, I had high hopes for this dish but missed the mark by a little. The tuna was fine and the capers and shallots was a good accompaniment that brought out the flavors. Its the yellowtail that was a bit disappointing as it didn't have the fleshy sea food flavor you normally taste from yellowtail. Not really sure which cut of the yellowtail it was but wasn't what I had expected. - Carpaccio - 4.5/5 - One of my favorites. The smoky wagyu beef flavor was super prominent and blended well with the balanced flavors of the pine nuts and shallots. The rareness of the beef was perfectly red. Goes well with any wine as the strong flavors from this dish needs an offset. - Seared Scallops 4/5 - Excellent presentation and cooked perfectly. The temp was just right and the flesh of the scallop was easy to chew. The sauce was perfectly paired to juice the flavor of the scallops even more. - Shrimp Risotto - 4.5/5 - I don't usually order risotto but am glad we did. The pesto flavor was ingrained and well absorbed into the risotto so it was an explosion of flavors with every bite. The risotto was done very well, not too hard but also maintained rigidness when chewing so that it doesn't just mush away. - Ribeye - 2/5 - Little disappointed with the ribeye because of the char. We ordered medium rare which was perfectly done here but what went south with this ribeye was the bitter char from the grill marks. I normally don't mind a little char but this ribeye had too much char so the bitterness ruined each bite. - Rigatoni Bolognese 3/5. Ok dish, nothing I'd write home about or give any special highlight. The rigatoni was done well al dente and the sauce was good flavor but wasn't hitting it for me. Overall, great ambiance for friends to enjoy a excellent meal with creative cocktails. Service was great and the local area a good location to walk through. Geppetto was such a nice surprise! You expect great Italian food in Boston, but with this place being so new--and in a newer area of Cambridge--I wasn't expecting such a great meal. Our server was super helpful, and we ended up taking almost all of his recommendations. We went with the Pull-Apart Garlic Bread (the butter served with this...unreal), Smoked Short Rib Carpaccio, Lobster Campanelle, and Rigatoni Bolognese. Everything was amazing, but the Rigatoni Bolognese stole the show here, it rivals anything you'll find in the North End. I really enjoyed the carpaccio, but my husband wasn't the biggest fan of the strong smoky flavor, so fair warning if that's not your thing either. The pasta portions were generous, so we left with quite a bit of leftovers, but we definitely weren't complaining about second dinner later that night. I'll have to come back to try some of the entrees and explore the cocktail list, but my first experience was so lovely that visiting again shouldn't be too much of a hardship :) Pro-tip: start or end your meal with a beer at Lamplighter CX next door. We got the arancini and fritto misto as appetizers. The fritto misto included asparagus that was excellent. For main dishes we had the bolognese and the mafaldine. We had the best meal at Geppetto for our anniversary! Adam was a great waiter and was very attentive. He greeted us with glasses of champagne and wished us a happy anniversary to start off the meal! It was such a nice touch. I got the ai fiori drink and my husband got the old fashioned. Both were great! We got the fried mozzarella cacio e pepe as an appetizer. It was very crispy and flavorful. We both got the spicy lobster rigatoni, which Adam recommended. It was very flavorful and definitely had a little kick. The portion was a nice size too. For dessert we got espresso martinis (which were great!) and the chocolate hazelnut cake. The piece of cake was definitely big enough for at least two people to share. Service was outstanding. Our server recommended the chianti by the glass, which was delicious. We split the fried mozzarella--also delicious and some marinated olives--great selection. For entrees we had the Bolognese Rigatoni which was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I had the spicy lobster pasta--which was creamy and spicy and while it had nice lobster flavor, I was disappointed by the amount of lobster and quality of the lobster meat itself. For the price, I thought it would actually have more than a few shreds of lobster--it had just tiny bits of claw tip--the part I don't eat--and a few meager tiny knuckles. This dish could have been absolutely stellar if it had just a few ounces of sweet lobster tail and knuckles. I wonder if they changed the dish---as I see a picture from a year ago that shows the dish I had plus half a lobster tail in the shell. If I'd received that---I would have been seriously over the moon and racing back to have this again. I hope they will reconsider adding the lobster back to the spicy lobster pasta. Geppetto was an unexpected gem! Randomly tried them for dinner with friends one night and was so pleasantly surprised. We sat outside on one of the last days warm enough for it and their patio was really nice and quaint. It's definitely a smaller space so it's nice they have outdoor seating for when it's warm enough. The service was also really attentive and friendly and definitely knowledgeable about the menu. We got all our food to share and loved every single thing. The garlic bread is an absolute must, it was delicious/warm/garlicky/buttery. It was soft and crisp at the same time. Truly great. The Frito misto was also delicious. My friend and I came here during restaurant week and it was such a unique and memorable dining experience. The interior decor was gorgeous - warm dark green walls, oak finishes with floor to ceiling windows. Half of the fun of our white table cloth dining experience was the people through the windows we were sat next to. The wait staff was Michelin star level, extremely knowledgeable about their dishes, offering great synopses about the ingredients used and the flavor profiles. They also offered great suggestions and opinions while never leaving our water glasses half empty. Even with a slight disruption to our amazing experience with the temperature of the steak we ordered, the manager was quick to offer a solution. The short rib pasta was so rich and luscious. The tuna carpaccio was gorgeously plated and delicately flavored. The squid ink pasta that we got in place of the steak was also delicious. No one checked in after food was delivered, couldn't get water glasses refilled or any drinks ordered and waited 30 minutes just to cash out. 2/6 dishes we ordered were very good. The location was perfect for who work in East Cambridge area to get together. Staffs are nice but didn't feel they are extra kind or thoughtful tho. I had lobster pasta and we shared garlic bread and brussels sprouts. Among three dishes, my pick would be brussels. Main dish; lobster pasta was bit salty, and was same for other people. Texture of lobster was either overcooked or not well cooked as it was dry and was hard to take meats from the shell. The garlic bread was popular and everyone was low-key fighting each other for more. The brussels sprouts were good too, not special however. I got the Mafaldine which was delicious! For dessert, we had a melon dessert (the pink one) which was good and another dessert which was this pistachio cream with a crispy sweet crust on top. The pistachio dessert was divine. Unfortunately I don't recall the names of the desserts, but I believe they are frequently rotated. The drinks were good - I got the Pineapple Politics which was delicious (although I learned that I am not a big mezcal fan), and another friend enjoyed all his drinks including a bitter at the end of our meal. We ordered the fried mozzarella which was served in a very unique way. It was bathed in tomato sauce with what looked like angel hair pasta. There was a certain crunch that went with it, coupled with the delicious sauce - puts it over the top. Definitely would recommend starting with that. My fiancé also ordered the pasta alla norma off of the specials list. That was delicious with its own spicy kick. I had a hard time trying to choose what to order. There are a lot of good options. Only thing is that it's quite a heavy appetizer, so would recommend sharing between 3-4 people. We ordered two pastas, which were good (but not necessarily the best pastas you can find in the area). The agnolotti was well cooked but too salty for my liking. The lobster campanelle was a bit too al dente and the sauce was spicier than expected. So, we headed to Cambridge, MA, to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary this December. Our oldest had graduated from MIT, and we loved the area. Jim and I booked a dinner reservation at Geppetto on N First Street, at Cambridge Crossing. No sooner did we walk through the door, but we were greeted warmly by Geppetto's manager, Chuck, who proceeded to roll out the proverbial red carpet for us. Chuck made delightful light conversation with Jim and me and escorted us to a strategic beautiful round booth for our seating. Our surroundings of rich green walls and contemporary lighting and decor were breathtaking. Chuck introduced us to our excellent server, Jonathan, then celebrated our 47th royally with a champagne toast. Our fine manager proceeded to describe the prix fixe dinner for the evening. The meal was outstanding in every way, including Chuck's wine-pairing suggestions! We wrapped up our glorious meal with a sweet creme brulee and glass of port. How satisfying and pleasant was our extravaganza of fine dining with fabulous service and amenities! Anywhere you find chef Anthony Susi you know you'll have some great chow. This new spot, in an area of Cambridge that's on the rise, is worth the trip. The place is pretty small, the menu is Italian inspired. It's the centerpiece of the Lexington complex of a bar upstairs, called The Lexington (I stopped up there for a drink before dinner) ... as well as a small cafe called Cafe Beatrice. The building is, like everything around this area of office buildings, apartments, etc. is brand new. The restaurant is modern with clean lines and excellent decor... a very comfortable spot. The food is fantastic. Everything is perfectly plated and looks amazing. When I saw an online photo of the Fried Mozzarella, I knew I needed to order it. I'm glad I did, it's great... perfectly cooked, melty goodness, crispy texture, the tomato sauce perfect. I ordered the Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe, as it's smart to order pasta if chef Susi is making it... loved it. Ricotta Cavatelli w/Crab was another winner. A side order of Seared Brussel Sprouts was a nice complement to the pasta. Served piping hot, these were the best I've had... I'd go back just for these! We were very excited to try this new restaurant and it did not disappoint! We tried the pesto pull-apart bread, the smoked short rib carpaccio, the crispy octopus, the spinach tagliatelle, and the porcini pappardelle. Everything was delicious. Our favorites were the carpaccio, the octopus, and the tagliatelle! I loved the fried capers on the carpaccio -- great contrast to the silky texture of the short rib! The octopus was so soft, almost like mozzarella cheese. And the mussels and garlic flavors complimented the spinach in the tagliatelle so well! Overall, great meal in a lovely restaurant! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet, and I've been back with my husband a few times since the menu changes with the seasons. The food is always inventive with interesting and fresh flavors, and service has been phenomenal most times we've gone. They have been accommodating of my allergies with multiple options for vegetarians on the menu as well. To start, we have tried the braided cheesy herb bread with black garlic butter, an eggplant dip (a bit smokey), frito misto with seafood zucchini, and artichoke (my husband loved this), awesome grilled focaccia with white bean dip & oregano, and fried mozarella (though it tastes like it is fried in the same oil as calamari), and salmon crudo with pistachio cucumber lime (my husband thought this one was just ok). I thought the endive caeser (without anchovy) was interesting with parmesan, oregano, fried onion, and sourdough crouton, but a little too bitter for me. The burrata with fig pistachio chicory orange and olives was really unique. The burrata with peas, mint, basil, toasted pine nuts, cucumber and a lemon olive oil mustard dressing was also very good (creamy & acidic combo). The goat cheese and preserved lemon agnolotti with pumpkin seed and pesto was delicious, and my husband has enjoyed the pork Bolognese rigatoni, and lobster campanelle pasta with lemon breadcrumbs (spicy). The pumpkin agnolotti in brown butter sage sauce was pretty good (though I wish there was more filling). I've also enjoyed the gnocchi with almost candied tomatoes (so delicious). *All pastas are hand made. For dessert, the tiramisu is fabulous and a little different (boozy, almost cheesecakey consistency, and I think with a hint of anise?). We had a very good chocolate and sourdough mousse with orange honey too, and we already want to go back to try the baked zeppole. Geppetto is tucked away in the center of the Lechmere shopping area. We had a reservation for 6 but were 30 min late due to MBTA struggles; thankfully they were super nice about it. We were seated at an elegant circular table booth. The food came out very quickly (as it was made), so we had a table full of food in no time. A lot of things on the menu looked really good so we just dove in. Overall a lot of the dishes we ordered were quite cheesy/rich, so I much preferred the lighter dishes. Delicious, would get again - Cod cioppino ($38) - The broth for this dish is perfect -- light, savory, and very seafood forward. The cod was also great - flaky and somehow had a crispy crust. I also really enjoyed the bay scallops in the broth. The other seafood (shrimp, mussel, clam) didn't stand out as much, and may have been a bit overcooked. This was a super tasty dish. - Grilled focaccia ($2) - We got one piece of focaccia which came with a small bowl of white truffle bean dip. Wow this was great! The bean dip was delicious -- smooth but not heavy, lovely truffle flavor. The bread was just a vehicle for the bean dip deliciousness. - Beef carpaccio ($20) - I had no idea what to expect, but wow this was delicious! The smoked wagyu beef was very thinly sliced and tasted like a cross between smoked salmon and prosciutto. The toppings were delicious as well, with interesting textural contrast. It's pricey, but worth it. Good, might get again - Porcini lasagna ($26) - I'm a sucker for porcini mushrooms, and they definitely did them justice with this lasagna. There were crispy parts on the top and bottom and delicious compacted layers of mushroom. There was also a lot of cheese surrounding it which I avoided. - Seared brussels sprouts ($10) - Hot and tasty brussels sprouts, who can complain! I appreciated that there was no sweetness in these, as I have come to expect of restaurant brussels sprouts. Meh, wouldn't get again - Pull apart garlic bread ($10) - I was enticed by the concept, but was disappointed by the result. The bread wasn't as fresh/soft as we would've wanted. It was also sitting a pool of cheese, and that was a lot. - Lobster fra diavolo ($32) - I didn't like the seasoning for this pasta. It was overly acidic. The lobster had good flavor but was a bit overcooked. It comes with half of a lobster tail (in the shell) and some cut up claw meat in the pasta sauce. I've definitely had better lobster pastas. We also got the Cosmopolitan ($15), which was fine, nothing special, and the pineapple orange guava sorbetto ($9), which was pretty good (though I wasn't a fan of the candied orange pieces). We also didn't realize that the gelato toppings costed extra ($1 each), because the menu didn't clearly indicate that. Overall, I tried some tasty things here. I think their textures and flavors are generally very good, though many of the things we got were a bit too rich for me. Some of the seafood was also a bit overcooked. I would say the restaurant felt pretty similar to Moeca in terms of price point and types of dishes, but Geppetto food felt heavier on average, and the seafood wasn't as on point. The restaurant has great ambience and service, and some fun dishes that I haven't had elsewhere. read more
