We opened with a '23 Lucien Albrecht Pinot Blanc from Alsace which was light, dry, and crisp - the perfect accompaniement for oysters. We also ordered a Hendrick's Gibson but, alas, had to settle for an extra dry up with four olives on the side. One note: Puritan, like so many venues, fails on the point of serving a martini in a champagne glass. Why is this so problematic? A martini should be served in a conical V-shaped glass with a long stem. I ask: would they serve a burgundy in a bordeaux stem?? Puritan has a rotating selection of oysters and yesterday's was Island Creeks from Duxbury. The Island Creek is the classic east coast oyster - the deep shell allows for plump, meaty oysters that have a lot of tooth in every bite. They feature a rich ocean brine and seawood and finish with a smooth sweet kiss. Puritan oysters are served with cucmber mignonette, green chili, and classic cocktail sauce but my strongest possible recommendation is to savor these without. Why make mask the genuine taste with an opague dressing? We couldn't resist the seafood risotto and were more than pleased. Generously portioned with lobster and crab, the rice was infused with a delectable seafood taste profile. The baked cod was sublime. A large cod steak, coated in a kataifi crust, was perfectly roasted - crunchy exterior with moist, flaky cod inside. Served on a bed of roasted green beans with a drizzle of lemon capers gave the dish complexity and character. Puritan is an outstanding oyster bar and brings an intriguing selection of both starters and mains. Puritan is definitely worth a visit.

My problem was the seared scallops that I got as my entree. The scallop was not over cooked but the crust of the sear was done poorly. The crust was sticky and the sauce was also not well paired with the dish. Was pretty disappointed as the appetizers were ok. I also tried the yuzu sorbet which had a bright citrus flavor but I wouldn't have identified it as yuzu if the waiter didn't mention it. This seems like an easy dish to mess up. Overall, the place was very busy the entire night and service was great. Food, however, could be improved.

Tagliatelle (9.5/10): Pasta was perfectly al dente. So, so delicious. I loved the slight kick in the sauce. They do ragu bolognese so well here!! I was left wanting more. Prices have barely gone up (if at all) in the past 4 years, surprisingly. Insanely overpriced 4 years ago, but a bit less so now. You really get what you pay for in terms of pasta. Also the sauce was pretty salty, which was annoying since the filling was already in the pasta. I just think it's wild to charge so much for an entree that doesn't even fill you up. My friend got the Lumache Amatriciana, it was a much better value then my Agnolotti del Plin, which was literally so light in the bag, the Lumache Amatriciana weighed like a pound. It was also a much better flavor balance and was cooked perfectly. This seemed like a great trendy place, I'm just disappointed in my portion.

For our entrees, we got the pasta alla Norma, gnocchi, spaghetti alla vognole, and the rack of lamb (which I believe was a special). I can only speak to the pasta alla Norma which I thought was incredibly flavorful with the tender eggplant. If I had to critique something about it, I'd say that they should omit the olives and capers since the traditional pasta alla Norma recipe stands on its own. Everyone else very much enjoyed their entrees since it was clean plate club all around! For desserts, we got the mini cannolis, tiramisu, panna cotta, and pear tart. The mini cannolis and panna cotta were great crowd pleasers. I personally really enjoyed the tiramisu: it was authentically created and not put in some mason jar like other places will do for a "modern" style. Being seated at the counter, I saw the staff at work. I noticed the staff tasting throughout the evening. For the hamachi tart, I noticed the portion sizes were inconsistent between diners. The hamachi tart was tasty The pea custard was excellent with a tasty custard at the bottom with fresh peas that topped this excellent appetizer. The grass fed short rib was ok. The beef was well done and slightly dry. The curry was nice with the highlight being the potatoes. The king salmon seemed to have been sous-vide, placed in the oven, lightly torched, before adding accoutrements. The center of the king salmon was medium rare for parts of the fish. Meal ended off with the panna cotta which was a light and refreshing way to end dinner. $150/head after tax, gratuity, along with a 4% kitchen appreciation fee.

The cauliflower came out like art, with the savory kale puree and crispy chicken skin. I don't love veggies but those dishes are seriously so delicious I can eat cauliflower all day.
