Huge fan of this spot - they make some of my favorite Neapolitan pizza. I'm not a repeat customer at many places truthfully, but this place has my patronage. I will say that the quality can somewhat vary sometimes. The last time I went, there was a bit too much sauce so the slices felt a bit over encumbered, but it was still really good and I can see how another person might like that. The restaurant itself is quite small so don't be surprised if you're back to back with another table if you're coming in on a particularly busy weekend. They make it work though! The service is extremely polite and is very quick with it as well! They're worth the trip for one of my favorite pizza spots in the Boston area. read more

Enjoyed dinner here the other night. Came with a group of four and it was a weekday so we were seated right away, but it is pretty small so I clubs see it getting busy on weekends. They clearly do a pretty robust takeout business too based on the number of pickups. We got the arugula salad too share which was really good - the dressing wasn't too heavy handed and the cherry tomatoes and arugula were fresh. Half of our group got gluten free pasta which they said seemed really fresh and they loved the sauces. Half got pizzas - a burrata and a margherita. The pizza crust was fresh and tasty and the cheese was high quality, though the middle was very soft (I know it's Neapolitan but it was somehow both hard to pick up and to cut, so a little challenging to eat). Only minor downside was that everything was a touch salty, we had to keep asking for water refills all night. At the end of the evening, we had two half pizzas left so asked for boxes - strangely they were quite small (could probably only fit about one slice of pizza in it flat), and because of the soft nature of the pizza, when we put them away they lost all structural integrity and all the toppings slid off. It was just weird because they must have take out pizza boxes? read more

This pizza place is a small chain around the greater Boston area and serves light, chewy, and slightly crispy pizzas!! I especially love the corn pizza and it came at a good price too. The staff were friendly and it only takes them 5-10 minutes to prepare the pizza. Highly recommend checking it out. This place has a good amount of interior seatings but the store is a little small. Stopped in at Ciao today after grocery shopping. We were seated quickly and comfortably, the staff were quite welcoming and attentive. Picked the Salsiccia pizza to split between us (and a poached pear and cannoli for dessert). First, the atmosphere is great! Inviting, with great views of Ball Square and the amazing pizza oven. The pizza arrived at the perfect temperature and quickly (we learned later that a pizza spends less than couple minutes in the oven due to how blisteringly hot it gets). Great flavor and composition to the pizza -- the sausage was extremely flavorful and there was just enough cheese. The dough is top notch, with just the right amount of chew! The poached pear and cannoli were excellent. Not too sweet with sufficient complexity. Very, very nice. My fiancé chatted with the staff and learned more about the location and the pizza oven (I mean, it's just too cool to not ask to see more closely). Great service, fantastic food. Will certainly return and I now feel remiss that we hadn't yet been. read more

Really enjoyed lunch here with the natural bright lighting and very cool AC despite a hot summer (and huge wood-fire oven)! They have coffees and paninis if you're looking for a quick lunch, but I came for the pizza and pasta-- which were fresh and delicious. Service was attentive and quick too. We came on a Friday for lunch. It wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. The waitress was super attentive and friendly. We ordered 2 pizzas, the homemade pasta with chicken, and the chicken panino. All were delicious. I had wanted to try Ciao for a while but never made it to Chelsea. When I heard this new location opened closer to me, I went immediately. A few logistical things to know about Ciao before you go. It's a very very small restaurant. They only have about 20 seats. They do a big takeout business, but with nowhere for customers to wait for their food, customers just stand in the middle of the restaurant. When we went, they hadn't started to serve alcohol yet, but they plan to according to the menu. Overall, Ciao has great pizza! The pizza came out fast and the crust was cooked to perfection. The roasted tomatoes on the Margherita were delicious and the Salsiccia pizza was covered in sausage. read more

I love Ciao! I have never dined in, so I can't really speak to the ambience or service, but the pizzas are delicious. I've been to both the Chelsea and Somerville locations and both are awesome. My bf is picky about his pizza as he is from Europe and says there was barely any tomato sauce though (for you Europeans) so he gives it an 2/5. Anyways, service was quick, easy and friendly. My husband was so excited to try this place out and we were lucky enough to visit last night. Dinner was PERFECT. Ten out of ten! We got the greens salad, which was tossed in light dressing with a few shaved red onions, some grape tomatoes, delicious cheese and fresh cracked pepper and a little salt. The bowl of salad was huge, and we split it. More than enough for two! The pizza is on the smaller side, but still perfect for two (especially if you get an appetizer or salad to accompany). The cheese, basil, and sauce were all fresh and full of flavor. The dough was a delight... fresh, crispy in the right places, and fluffy and soft in the crust. I savored every bite. Waitstaff was attentive and kind, too. It was very busy when we went, but everyone seemed to have it under control. The wait for our food was not long at all, and I can't wait to go back. The portions were large, a salad would feed 2 people and the pizzas were a good size also. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was small but cost and very clean. Great addition to Ball Square, Somerville! Ciao Pizza serves wood-fired pizzas, pastas, and salads. We came here twice already in the past month. We were both blown away by how rich and delicious everything on the menu was! If you like mushrooms, then you must try their Funghi pizza. Their Caesar salad is flavorful and pairs well with the pizza. We really enjoyed their duck leg confit squash risotto too. Honestly, you can't go wrong with this restaurant. If you're a fan of thinned crust pizza, then you must come here! I'm surprised that this restaurant wasn't as crowded as expected, given how delicious the food was. But I'm also glad, because we were seated right away both times. The service was great and the interior is cozy, perfect for a date night. We will be back for more (soon). read more

Incredible true Neapolitan style pizza. I only know of 1, maybe 2, other spots in Greater Boston that are on this level. Crust near perfect. Very tasty sauce and mozzarella. My only complaint is that I walked in to pick it up and the temperature inside the restaurant must have been 85-90 degrees. If I were planning to dine in, it wouldn't even have been possible. Nothing bad I can say about the food or service though. read more

Great neopolitan style pizza place that's still working out some operational kinks in their small new space. It gets crowded quickly, so I recommend coming early before the rush. FOOD: We got the classic bruschetta, chicken caesar salad, rigatoni, margherita pizza, fungi pizza, and wine poached pear. Everything was good, but the wood fired items are definitely their specialty. If you're not familiar with neopolitan style pizza, it's very thin, and the crust is meant to have charred leopard spots with some blisters - I think its best fresh from the oven. The caesar had good quality chicken and dressing, and the bruschetta was tasty, but I wish they'd given us a serrated knife to cut the mini bread loaf (asked, but they forgot). The margherita was solid with a good balance of fresh mozz, sauce, and basil. The crumb was soft and fluffy and tasted good - it was the table favorite. The funghi was very truffle forward, which was good but quite rich. The rigatoni was huge in portion and was okay, a bit mushy. The wine poached pear in ricotta was a nice light way to finish the meal. Beer & wine is not available yet. SERVICE: Friendly, accurate, but spotty. We were by the window in the corner, and once the place got crowded around 6:30, it was difficult for staff to see and service our table. AMBIANCE: Clean new space with simple nice decor, but small with limited tables. They have a bottle of water on the table with glasses and cutlery is wrapped in a cloth napkin. When people are waiting, the space feels crowded quickly. You can see the giant oven and the staff working in the back. You have to ask to use their 1 bathroom, where they take you through the kitchen to the back. The operational design of the space is suboptimal in some ways but the food is worth it. Absolutely THE BEST pizza ever! Came as a party of 4, the venue is small and charming, they also had great tunes! All the waiters were polite and courteous, making the wait totally worth it. They even gave us an appetizer on the house. We got the mushroom and classic margarita pizza - couldn't have gotten it better in Italy! The flavors are wonderfully fresh and clean for all the food. We also got breaded chicken with pasta, and the pasta feels as home made as they say it is! This has zoomed to the top of our restaurant list, definitely coming back! 100% recommend! read more

I realized I didn't review the one in Chelsea, so I'm going to review this extra hard. The worst part about this new location for Ciao is now I can't say "I know the best pizza in Boston". Now I have to say "I know the best pizzas in Boston". The other worst part about this new Ciao is that it's closer to me. Which means now I have no reason to eat other pizza. The best part about Ciao? That it's the best pizza in Boston. Okay, well, it's Neopolitan style, so it's not the best SLICE in Boston. But it is essentially perfect. The dough is light and flavorful, just toasted enough to not be carbonized, which places like Josephine sometimes struggle with. The sauce is perfect, not too salty (Hi, Si Cara) and the cheese, I mean, it's what it should be. Each pizza is very different - the margherita is my go-to, but there's also a Zucchini pizza that has honey on it which is like...I dunno, traveling to another side of Italy? I don't really know Italy. The mushroom, of course, is a banger, but you really can't go wrong. If you're diddling around in the darkness of places like Posto, highly highly recommend you hike up the hill to Ciao. They don't have drinks yet, but that just means you have more room for pizza. read more

So thrilled to finally try out the Somerville location of Ciao! And I am pleased to report it is just as good as their original home in Chelsea. The mafaldine was phenomenal with a rich and hearty mushroom flavor, but this place really shines because of their pizza. Their simple margherita is one of the best I've ever had -- the tomatoes are so fresh, the cheese is so flavorful, and the crust is perfectly chewy. If you're in Ball Square, check it out! Went here last week and loved it. It was the best pizza I've had in the Boston area, maybe the best I've ever had. The interior is decorated nicely, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I'm predominantly Itlaian-American, so it takes a lot for an Italian establishment to BLOW ME AWAY Wow. The staff are the kindest and friendliest people I've ever encountered. The food is DELECTABLE. They make their own pasta and if you have allergies they have gluten-free celiac options which is RARE. The ambience is perfect. Everything about this establishment is TOP PIER. Had dinner here on a very busy Friday night. The burratta pizza and beet salad were honestly fantastic and some of the best pizza I've had in MA. However, the the service was some of the worst I've had, considering we had to wait a half hour just to put in our order and then another half hour to get our food. I could forgive if they at least acknowledged the long wait time and apologized, but they didn't say anything at all. I was also disappointed that they brought out the appetizer well after the pizza. If I were judging by the food alone, I would give Ciao 5 stars easily. But given the terrible dine in experience, I deduct 2 stars. I do recommend trying this place out because the food is really that good, but you may want to reconsider dining in if it's busy like it was for me read more
