Lumache chili butter, jonah crab, oregano breadcrumb / 29

SRV was our carb loading dinner before Boston marathon the next day! I got Lumache chili butter, jonah crab, oregano breadcrumb. It was delicious! We also ordered bread and prosciutto and a salad. My feedback on the prosciutto is that it didn't come with much bread. I wish they brought the complimentary bread at the same time as the prosciutto. Since we ate the bread that came out first and when the prosciutto came we didn't have enough bread to eat the rest. Overall it was a nice dinner experience!

Came for a celebration with family and friends and they were all big fans of the food. My favorites were the mussels (the broth was so savory) and the mushroom rigatoni, which was so pillowy! The prawn risotto also had very juicy prawns. A lot of the dishes come with bread so that's pretty filling. The interior is spacious and there even is a backyard patio. Our server was also attentive. The blackberry sorbet was a little odd - it had the taste of black licorice in it.

Fancy pasta place. Went in on a late Thursday night around 8:30, got lucky without a reservation. The service from hostess was not friendly/judgy and didn't give us menus, which the wait staff provided. She asked if we were here for dinner =actual table, or drinks+ snacks= bar, when there were quite a few open tables. It didn't seem like other customers were going to come in. If someone's spending $50-$100 for a nice meal, it would be great to have a choice. We were seated at the bar with the swinging seats. Kind of tricky the first time as they move when you sit. No place to put our coats, everyone sat on their clothes. The waitstaff are all very friendly and happy to give a breakdown of the items. Good spot to go on a date, well lit. Food: we got the mushroom pasta. Good balance of sauce and butter. Noodles are well done. Miso gelato ($5) reminds me of salted caramel. Tiramisu was a huge serving, but then again it's $15.

I can see why this is one of the best restaurants in Boston. Service was great. The ambiance is amazing with a patio and old garage door used as a decor. The pasta and risotto was perfectly Al Dante (imagine 98% cooked so it is left with a chew instead of the consistency of mush). Food was amazing with an Italian thought process & local ingredients. The drinks taste exactly how it's described on the menu. Here is what I thought of the food: Pawn Risotto was the best risotto I had in a really long time. The risotto was made perfectly Al dente and both the lobster broth w/ pawn on top made this dish very tasty. This is for the shellfish lovers. It does take 25 minutes so order your risotto early. Prosciutto didn't seem to be aged too long because it wasn't as salty as ones aged longer. It's still fatty and tasty. Scallop Crudo was fresh, salty, sour from the sauce, and had a fun texture change with the pistachio. It's a great bite of food and delicious. It is rather small in portions so consider ordering an extra order or 2 if you are in a bigger group. Mussels was one of my favorite dishes because the sauce with Calabrian chili mixed in made it so yummy. Calabrian chili isn't as spicy as most chili so I find the sauce very yummy and balanced. I almost didn't care for the mussels anymore because it was all about that sauce. Lumache is so good because I love seafood. The crab meat made it yummy and pasta was perfectly Al Dante. Rigatoni is a fun pasta shape and it's fun to have it in an elevated setting because it's perfectly cooked. Overall, I think it's an amazing Italian restaurant in Boston in particular and it's a great place to have everything made very well. I recommend making a reservation in advance especially if you want to come on the weekend.

We went there on Monday evening. We got seated immediately as we had reservations. Its a well decorated interior place with dim lighting. Staff is nice. Menu is limited but good variety. We had couple of appetizers, one salad and 2 main course. Food was good. Plating was wonderful. We had one drink and it was ok

SRV hasn't been on my radar until I was searching for cute patios in the city. But wow was I blown away! The vibe is perfect for any occasion, the service is amazing. Our server was patient with us and stopped by our table with perfect timing. All the food was bursting with creativity and flavor. The "ciccetti" are truly one bite. A couple notes: The smoked sea trout was raw (a warning for those who don't like raw seafood) but was still one of our favorites. Also, the avocado/tahini with the snow peas is surprisingly super dense and very filling. However the three pastas we tried (lumache, ravioli, strozzapreti) were out of this world. As for drinks, I only tried the canarina carbone but WOW! The sesame oil on top provided a nice scent before tasting the smokiness of the mezcal. SRV is a little expensive for sure, but worth it.

Amazing birthday dinner experience. Food was so good that I didn't get enough photos. 12/10. Absolutely love their small bites - meatballs, fried olives, fried mozzarella balls. Pasta was so fresh and delicious. Great Venetian wine selection too!

I've heard great things about SRV, but I was pretty underwhelmed by my experience. I loved how spacious the restaurant was, but everything else was just okay... My experience with the staff felt scattered. Our waiter took our order, but otherwise we didn't see her much. We were seated in the middle, which is fine except I kept being bumped by the staff who were prepping(?) in the center counter. We could confused where our waiter went, so we had to flag down another staff member to ask for our check. Then someone else brought us our check. Everyone was nice, but it just didn't feel like the smoothest dining experience. The food itself didn't wow us either. I thought the polpettes were crumbly. They were stingy with the bread. My friend enjoyed her green garlic risotto, which was, as expected, very garlic forward. I found the gnocchi to be very flavorful, but to the point where I couldn't finish the plate. Though I was say the pea pasta sauce was soooooo creamy and insanely delicious. Overall, I probably won't be back - there are so many restaurants to try. Though there probably are not a lot of venetian-style options.

Had an awesome night celebrating my wife's birthday as they did a nice job acknowledging her and stamping her menu as well as offering her some dessert to end the night. Overall the food was very good, tapas style individual portions for the appetizers and the stuffed pepper, meatballs, and fried cheese were very good. We also got the zucchini, strozzapreti, ravioli and all were very good. They rotate the menu flavors so everything is fresh and seasonal. Ambiance was solid but nothing crazy but the food is amazing. Small menu but extremely flavorful dishes.

SRV is on most Boston dinner menus for worth checking out. We went for an anniversary dinner and found it a good match. No reservations were made but they had plenty of bar seating for a week night. Staff were friendly and attentive. We did the arsenal set dinner menu and found it a great way to sample a wide variety of dishes. Most things were solid with the broccolini actually being the standout winner. Overall they fall short from 5 stars with the food not having a "wow" factor for us, that is hard to obtain. Inside can be loud and dim lighting, but casual so a good fit for after work drinks or a date.

Very cool space. The arancini is the best bite we had. The meatballs are good, as is the blood orange ricotta crostini. The pea and avocado salad is nice and healthy, but not something I would order if I was looking for a delicious dish. The ricotta gnocchi was a disappointment. It was the weirdest texture, soft yet grainy, with very little flavor. Kind of like a mini matzo ball. I guess I'm more of a traditional Italian food kind of guy.

The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. Hard to get reservations but worth it! Don't bother driving / trying to find parking unless you're willing to eat a hefty garage fee, it's Back Bay.

People recently wondered why Boston got nearly entirely shut out by the Michelin people (only 1…read moreone-star was given); among the places that were said to be in the running was Amar, located in a lovely space in the Raffles Hotel. We have been there twice, and I now will put my brief review. The take-home: if Boston, Raffles, and Amar think they deserve a star, they really need to up their game. I will get one thing out of the way very quickly: the food is spectacular and the wine service was excellent; these are not the reason for my comment. The simple truth folks is that a dining experience is not JUST about the food. It's about ambiance--which includes service and atmosphere, and that is where Amar just falls apart. It would be wrong to not recognize that the individual servers were quite nice and attentive. We had an 830 pm seating--hardly late in most cities, though one might suggest that in Boston that is on the later side (it really isn't folks). Regardless, by 1030-11 pm, the dining room was nearly empty on a Saturday night. At that moment, a server came over to us to alert us the kitchen was closing--which was obviously them saying "get out"--but soon thereafter the smell of cleaning fluid filled the air, and we realized there was a person cleaning the tables--with a cleaning cart, complete with mops, brooms, and cleaning fluid in the middle of the dining room. While people were seated and eating. This is a restaurant with a pricey menu and wine list, and I cannot remember a time when dining in a fine restaurant when something like this EVER happened. We found it funny at first, but while trying to eat our dessert and drink our final cocktails the smell of ammonia really ruined the final experience. In the end, once served with the bill, it was not funny. The bill was around $1000 for 4 people including a nice bottle of wine. So: expensive, nice individual service, good food. But the lack of awareness about how diners paying for an expensive meal feel being rushed, and then the utterly ludicrous presence of a cleaning cart in the middle of the dining room while people were still eating (I posted a photo) makes Amar a laughable memory but nowhere I'd go back to.

Suffice to say that I had no intention of returning and made that clear in written communication. He was masterful, but it was his authenticity above all that made him so. Fast forward to last night, when I returned to Grill 23 with my wife, hopeful but still apprehensive; I needn't have been. Johan greeted us at the door, effortlessly made us feel at ease, and escorted us to our table. During the meal, he checked in several times, always in an easy, unobtrusive way that just said "I'm here for you guys, whatever it is that you may need." The waiter assigned to us (Garrett) was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for a better person to take care of us. His service was seamless without ever feeling excessive, more like a hospitable friend serving us an incredible dinner at his home. We were also visited by the Director of Operations, Gary Tummings. He made us feel valued and special, it was appreciated. All in all, this was one of the more enjoyable restaurant experiences we've ever had. Of course, the food must be mentioned, because it was flawless! We started with a dozen Cape Cod oysters, the Foie Gras and the Beet Salad, all impeccably presented and delicious. We then welcomed the restaurants two signature steaks, the Porterhouse and the Tomahawk. Both were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the flavor of each cut was nothing short of world class. The sides (carrots, asparagus and French fries) were all excellent as well, both in preparation and presentation. For dessert we had the coconut cake, which was mouthwatering, and a portion so generous that we had enough for seconds the next day. In short, the fare that we experienced last night was on another level...we absolutely will be back soon. I want to once again thank Assistant General Manager Johan Mola for everything he did to "right the ship" and to provide us with a truly memorable evening. All's well that ends well. Finally, I want to give a shoutout to Philip, the parking valet for the restaurant. We had talked prior and following the first experience and he immediately recognized me over two months later. What sets him apart is that he obviously cares deeply about the restaurant that he works for and the patrons who dine there. A really great, genuine human...I'm grateful for his concern, and my wife appreciated him keeping her dry under an umbrella on a raw and nasty night, all the way to our vehicle! Thank you to all, DC

The chicken anticuchos were great--highly recommend them for anyone who doesn't like gamey meats. I'm Peruvian, and at first I thought the menu might not look Peruvian enough. After dining here, I realized it's not just Peruvian--it's packed with bold flavors and thoughtfully explores Central American influences, which made it a greatly surprising experience. The restaurant wasn't full, so we had no wait at all. Service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic. And the churros--wow! You have to get them. So simple, yet so good. Not sure why this place isn't busier--highly recommend!

Wow--I think we've found a favorite restaurant on Newbury Street! We came here for the ceviche and…read moredidn't know they also have $2 oysters on weekends from 12-5 (I think they have dollar oysters during the week too), so that was a nice surprise. We had a few oysters, which were small but very fresh and on the sweeter side. I usually prefer briny ones, but these were very tasty. The tuna ceviche was perfect. The chicken tacos were also juicy and delicious, and the calamari were very nicely flavored and crisp, and come with a mildly spicy sauce. I will definitely be back soon.
