One of the great place for Vietnamese food in Dorchester. I ordered online and got a avocado smoothie, beef banh mi, and a vermicelli bun with spring rolls and pork. The smoothie was made when I got there and had a silky smooth texture, not too thick, but not too thin. The service was quick to get everything made on a weeknight during dinner. The portion sizes are pretty big and tasty. The pork was full of flavor and the pickled carrots and radish gave great texture to the meal. I had the banh mi for lunch the next day and the bread was still crisp and soft on the inside. There's a few tables to sit and enjoy if you're dining in. With a Vietnamese supermarket nearby, this place is very convenient to have a quick meal before or after doing some shopping. I got the tofu banh mi (only $6!) and enjoyed it. The sandwich can be made vegan by omitting the mayo and fish sauce, and if you request the scallion oil and soy sauce, the flavors are quite delicious, savory with a hint of sweetness. They are generous with the proteins, although with the oil, the sandwich gets rather greasy and messy, but it's worth it. The food and the aunties reminds me of home. The food is very good, the cooking style reminds me of how my mom and dad would make our family dinner. The restaurant is also very clean. BEST sugarcane juice in the city! All the proof you need is in my picture. Because sugarcane takes so long to ship to Boston, it generally isn't fresh and comes out more green/gray, oftentimes with a bit of sand collected at the bottom if it hasn't been thoroughly washed. But here, it is golden yellow. It's the closest you can get to what it's like in Vietnam while in Boston. Although I generally come here for their nước mía, I also love their smoothies. Want a vietnamese noodle soup but want to try something new? King Do's banh canh cua is something you need to try! It's a flavorful pork and crab noodle soup with a velvety broth. Usually it has small bits of crab and a snow crab claw but to my surprise my most recent order had nice big lumps of crab to accompany the snow crab claw. The other ingredients include fish cake, a pork trotter and blood pudding. I am not a big fan of blood pudding but theirs is very fresh and not minerally like most places. If crab isn't your thing, try the bun bo hue. It's a salty and spicy beef noodle soup named after a city in Vietnam, Hue. I would rank the banh canh cua is the #1 soup here and the BBH is 1a. They have other prepared foods and banh mi, but the noodle soups are where it's at. read more

Came in for the first time seeking a bahn mi for a late lSaturday lunch. The front half of the restaurant is set up as a subway station style where you order food on the go. There are a couple tables for you to sit. Many already prepped foods are also on the counter for sale. Beverages in the cooler on the right. The back half of the restaurant is a sit down dining area. I'll have to come back for that. This trip was just to seek out a bahn mi and ice coffee to go. I ordered the grilled pork, number 10 and an ice coffee, b2. Some pieces of the pork was tender, some was a bit dry, overall very tasty. I would order it again. The ice coffee was on point and surprisingly not too sweet. I visited on a Friday afternoon and they were able to serve me right away. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue noodle soup dish to go. As of July 2022, it cost $13. The menu listed $9 but it's old. It took about 10ish minutes to be ready. and then 20 minutes before I sat down and ate it. It was delicious. I was a bit nervous tbh because I had tried another place earlier this week and was disappointed but this!!! I am absolutely coming back and trying more things. This restaurant has a huge selection of delicious banh-mi sandwiches and a variety of desserts in their fridges, along with various snacks laid out on their tables. The lady who runs the place is always super nice and welcoming! My favorite banh-mi (so far) has been the King Do special banh mi sandwich. They stuff it so full and every bite is filled with so much flavor. I've only been able to stop by in the evening but I'm hoping to stop by earlier in the day (I've heard they have more items available) and to make my way through more of their menu items! King Do is a Vietnamese restaurant/sub shop located on Dorchester Avenue. This is one fo my favorite Vietnamese sub shop and my go to place to grab breakfast and lunch when I worked in the area. It is convenient, the quality is better than the competitors in the area, and also because the price is fair. For breakfast I like to order their Vietnamese iced coffee. The coffee flavor is bold. The sweetener used is condensed milk. They also sell instant packaged Vietnamese coffee. My favorite one is the VinaCafe brand with the tan/gold package. This is if you want hit coffee instead. The packAge contain everything you need, coffee, sugar, and creamer. All you have to go is add hot water. I like to order with my coffee the "banh tieu", which is like fried dough but with toasted sesame seed. These cost 75 cent each so I tend to buy a dozen for my office. They are best when they just came out the fryer. Eat the. While they are warm. A lot of Vietnamese sub shops also sell to-go meals from the hot food item bar as well as packaged meals, appetizers, and desserts. I think King Do hot food bar serves fresher ingredients and also the food are seasoned better, not too salty. King Do has a wider selections of spring rolls than Vietnamese sub shops in the area. The most common roll is the "goi cuon" or shrimp and pork spring rolls. They also have "bo bia " which is another type of spring roll but with eggs, peanuts, Chinese sausage, basil leaves, and jicama. King Do also serves the pork skin spring rolls. They have the most variety in terms of options. The rice paper used for their spring rolls are higher quality and also they use fresher ingredients and have better dipping sauces for their different rolls. My two favorite fried food items is their egg rolls and their stuffed baked bread. Their egg rolls are not that oily compared to the competitors in the area. I often purchased large orders for parties in my office and for at home. They also sell frozen bags of spring roll in the small freezer by the door if you want to buy a larger quantity and fry them at a later time. The stuff baked bread has an imitation crab meat spread which is buttery. This is another crowd pleaser at my office parties. Their "xoi ga" which is sticky rice with chicken is one of my all time favorite. I usually microwave it for a 45 seconds to one minute to get the sticky rice soft again before eating. The problem with over heating is that you may melt your butter sauce and pate that accompanies the container. This is a good to-go lunch. Another favorite that I like to order when it is available is their "sup cua" which is a seafood/crab meat soup with enoki mushroom and quail eggs. I live having this for lunch and even sometimes breakfast with a little ground black peppers and hot chili paste. It costs $5 for a small to-go container and $10 for a large to-go container. I have many favorites and another is their rice porridge with mixed organs which is called "chao long" in Vietnamese. I sometimes have this for breakfast and for lunch. I don't recommend this if you are not a fan of offals or organ meat. Their rice rolls are also very good. I prefer ones that are thin but most places make these rolls on the thicker side. There are two types, a pork and wood ear mushroom kind and a dried shrimp kind. My favorite is the fried shrimp rice rolls. It comes with blanched bean sprouts, cucumbers, mint leaves, a fried egg roll, and slices of bbq pork patties. The dressing is a Vietnamese fish sauce. The thing I dislike about King Do's subs is the hard and slightly more dense baguette that is used. I like my baguette softer and airier on the inside. It comes down to preference really when you compare their subs to another Vietnamese sub shop in the area. I also wish they used more pate and butter spread and sauce in their subs. For this reason, their subs tend to be more dry and has less flavors compared to their competitors down the street. This is not necessary a bad thing if this is how you like your subs. I don't recommend their "banh gio", which is a rice and pork dumpling wrapped in a banana leaf. It also has in it a quail egg and wood ear mushroom. The problem with their banh gio is that it does not stay together but breaks apart. When made correctly, the banh gio outer dough should hold together as you eat it. The meat is at the center. It can get crazy in the early morning hours so ordering can get a little crazy as their is no system really. You have to defend your spot in line and get one of the ladies behind the counter attention when you see they become available to take the next order. They are sometimes to busy to keep track of who came into the store first. This is just a review of their subs and prepackaged to-go items. I haven't dine in and order from their restaurant menu. I have ordered catering for parties. The process is pretty simple and food is ready as promised at the time of pick-up. read more

Customer service is slow, and we were the only table there at 1 pm, so I can't imagine what it would be like if there were multiple tables with orders. It took about 25-30 mins to get all our food. Our drinks did come out after about 5 mins. It looks like they have only 1-2 people doing both the kitchen and the waiting. There is nothing special about the atmosphere, and the whole place smells like cleaning products. So don't expect any ambiance. With that said, the ladies were all nice and courteous...just trying to go from one thing to another. We ordered pho ($15), bun bo hue ($14) and hu tieu nam vang ($13), com dac biet ($14). All were pretty good, and had a decent amount of contents. We also got a bunch of their packaged food to go. All pretty yummy. There's only two Vietnamese sandwich places in Boston that's are good in my opinion and taste wise. This one can be comparable to Ba Le. But I think ba le have better breads, meat and pate . It's a restaurant style place with seats and a person to take your order while u are seated down. It's pretty big place and they open early in morning at 5am for the early birds. Came here during my lunch break since the place I was originally craving, very glad I stopped by. It's quite bigger than I thought when looking at the restaurant. Ordered the #4 shredded pork Bahn Mi, the whole sandwich was delicious and crunchy (be ready to get bread all over you while eating it) and an avocado smoothie which serves a decent portion. It is a bit strange that the smoothie is more expensive than the sandwich, but I can overlook that. The only issue I had is that the smoothie contained a small piece of plastic and two inedible pieces of bark (which I assume came from the avocado) so just careful if you order an avocado smoothie. read more

Great for all kinds of delicious Vietnamese dishes at prices that can't be beat: bbq pork Bahn mi and Bun Bo Hue and shrimp rolls (they have them both with and without pork inside, so look carefully!) are my normal go-to dishes here. They also have sticky rice wraps, fried whole fishes, pho ga, as well as what look like curries, fried party wings and more! Top it off with various smoothies and iced coffee and I'm a regular. Ba Le was closed down the street so my family and I ventured here. We got a bunch of things including the beef banh mi, banh bot loc, banh bao, and a sticky rice patty. Everything was good and priced comparable to other places in the Boston area. My only complaint is that we ordered 4 beef banh mis and 4 cold cut banh mis. When we got home, all 8 banh mis were beef. I liked all the ingredients in the beef banh mi but they were missing that special sauce that Ba Le puts on theirs. read more

This place used to have a really bad rep, but it's definitely gone far from that! I come here pretty much every weekend to pick up some food for work (and so do a lot of other people- it gets VERY crowded). The banh mi here is always freshly made to order, they have many other meals such as their to-go rice plates, vermicelli plates, and desserts. This is the perfect place to grab a bunch of stuff for you and your coworkers. I get anxiety when I see so many people throwing their many at the workers because they want to get their food. But they also have a fast foods counter in front of the store where they sell banh mi, che, and to go rice plate just like banh mi Ba Le style. This is banh mi Ba Le competitor and I prefer King Do stuffs over Ba Le more. Their Vietnamese foods and desserts are top notch in the area. Very fresh and super delicious. I love this place. I started coming here just to get vietnamese coffee. One day I asked them what they had for food, I was running late and didn't make breakfast at home. I still to this day don't know the name of the dish, but it's the one in the picture, pork, rice, 2 eggs, salad and soup. Actually I don't know what the cost is either but think it's pretty reasonable like $9 maybe. Either way I love it, and the women that work there, (even though none of them speak English that well lol) are so nice. Get your cafe sua, com noung, breakfast triangle in a banana leaf, fried rice and pork, tofu, Pho, suffer cane juice, lotto tickets, bahn Mi, medicated oil & unguents, sticky rice treats, bubble tea, hot bar take out melange etc etc... It's counter service and mostly take out but there are tables to eat at, a functional bathroom to wash your hands in, and chilled drinks in the cooler. You can grab and go for quick fix or order specialty items (piles of boxed lunches going out the door here) and wait. Not the best cafe sua I've ever had but it'll do. The ladies are friendly and cheerful and are patient with the fact I'm not real sure about everything I see on the menu, don't speak very understandable Vietnamese but want to know everything in the hot bar and are perfectly happy to confirm that yes, that is a quail egg in my warm, meat filled, banana leaf wrapped breakfast triangle.
