    brown sugar boba
    Kai L.

Pho Town has arrived in Allston/Brighton! The restaurant keeps the menu a short one-pager. I tried the restaurant during their grand opening in which they were offering either free spring rolls, egg rolls, or a soda if you order one of their noodle soups or ramen dishes. The entire menu is also entirely 15% off. The pho comes in one size and at the right temperature. The broth is a bit salty, but there is a good amount of meat so you won't need to fish around for protein in your dish. The egg roll was delicious, not too oily and flavorful. The ice in the brown sugar boba tea balances out the sweet and the boba is not too chewy. The servers are friendly and we did not have to wait long for our food.

    Classic spring rolls

It's so hard to find authentic pho in Boston, and growing up in Hawaii, I have wanted to find some great Viet food here. This place was definitely amazing. I ordered the C4 and the broth was so flavorful on it's own. There was also a deal for free spring rolls (of your choice) since they just opened two weeks ago. The spring rolls were solid as well. I also ordered Thai milk tea which was yummy and tasted fresh. In fact everything did. Staff were super polite as well. I will definitely be back!!

So what better than to order some hot pho noodle soups! We ordered 2 pho ga and 1 pho chay. We also ordered the fried rice with chicken which was also quite good and a huge portion too. The chicken wings and dumplings were great! Delivery came quickly. Pad Thai: Just like at Nine Tastes, my first bite was overwhelmed by the strong sourness... According to ChatGPT, American Southeast Asian restaurants may use concentrated tamarind sauce instead of the original tamarind-infused water, or reduce the sugar to suit American tastes, hence the extra sourness of Pad Thai. Learned something new! The shrimp was very fresh, firm and tender; the rice noodles were stir-fried with a great wok hei 鑊氣(wok aroma), and the portion was huge, but it got a bit oily towards the end. My favorite was the peanuts--they were incredibly fragrant, and not too finely ground, giving them a better texture. Also, a larger plate is really needed; it would be much easier to mix all the ingredients together. Drunken Noodles: The wide flat rice noodles were authentic. The spicy flavor added another layer of wok hei, and the thin layer of chili oil helped retain heat and enhance the aroma. Although a bit spicy, I felt it was the best of the three. Saigon Noodle: It felt like a combination of the two above, with a touch of sweet and sour and a hint of spicy, but neither was particularly prominent. It had a hint of sesame oil, but I personally don't really like sesame oil.

I don't think the prices on their menu are justified for the big portions they serve! Yes, they give plentiful ingredients for lower than standard menu price compared to my local area. I don't go to Dorchester often, so I am not sure if the other Vietnamese restaurants within its vicinity have similar price range. But this restaurant is definitely worth checking it out as it has a decent selection to order. I had Bun Bo Hue and my friend had #75 Crab Noodle Soup with Water Spinach. Bun Bo Hue was not spicy, was on the sweeter side, but it was flavorful! They provided me a saucer of chilly oil to adjust spicy level to my liking. #75 was good as well and like I stated it had plenty ingredients (at an affordable price)! If you are looking for modern or intimate atmosphere, this is not it! If you are okay with old school look and closer to homemade food, go for this one!

We were surrounded by a lot of Vietnamese people who were all having a good time. We had the bun bo hue and the bun mam dac biet. The portion size for the price was astounding. I couldn't finish my soup and had to take it home. The broths for both dishes were amazing! If you love spicy beefy soups, go for the bun bo hue. If you like fermented seafood broths with a lot of seafood, go for the bun mam dac biet. The quantity of seafood in the latter was astounding. If you love blood cakes, you will get a ton of those in the bun bo hue. All in all, I loved going to this place and would visit again. You should give this place a visit.

BUT, definitely encountered this unethical deceptive practice at Ba Le in Quincy (inside the Kan Man Market). Any event, this Ba Le Dorchester is quite solid. Here are things they should really improve on to make it even better: - put expiration dates or packed dates on certain items, such as the desserts in the fridge. That's the norm practice elsewhere. Thus, the absence of these dates strongly suggests deception, i.e., bad faith attempts to sell older produce when they should already have been trashed. - do put the prices of the items rather than letting customers wondering or just blindly let the cashier ring it up without being informed of the price first. Why not place the price there? And yes, this is probably more desirable because of the aforementioned practice of marking up prices at the Ba Le Quincy Branch (this is documented all over Google and Yelp reviews for Ba Le Quincy), which may be why we have good reasons to be hyperly cautious when making purchases from these personnel.

It was okay, but it didn't quite hit the same heights as the classic beef noodle soups. * Freshness: The herb plates are generally generous and fresh, which is a must for any good boba or pho experience. The Experience: The service is extremely fast--designed to get people in and out--which is helpful because this place is almost always busy. Despite the constant crowd, the staff handles the volume well. The menu is extensive with a variety of dishes but I opted to go for one of the more popular options, the BBQ Pork Chops (2). Overall I'd rate my experience as okay - not something I'd necessarily seek out on my own.
