We started with the Tod mun which are Thai fish cakes. I always use this dish as an indicator of the authenticity of Thai dishes and it was excellent. Due to our proximity to the restaurant, we have become frequent patrons of the fine establishment that is Pho Zabb. Its consistent good service and food quality keep us coming back! Its honestly a staple in the neighborhood. Pho Zabb has a very extensive menu. They have dishes from many different cuisines, like Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai. Their seating area offers lots of space, it is clean and well kept. The staff is always friendly. My favorites would include the Rad Na; veggies and your choice of meat (I prefer beef) soaked in a thick sauce that is warm and comforting on a cold day. We also love their pho and different curries. Pho 1 Brighton is a cute restaurant on Commonwealth Ave (by BC and Allston) that offers Vietnamese, Korean, and Thai food! I wouldn't say that their food is the best in area BUT because their menu is so extensive, you just can't go wrong dining here. Their food is tasty and reasonably priced. I used to dine here, perhaps once a week? Not so much anymore just because I'm not in this area too often nowadays. I really enjoyed their bun bo hue, mainly due to the way their noodles tasted. VERY BOUNCY, OMG! Literally perfectly cooked. The broth maybe isn't the most authentic, per se, but I really dig their noodles. Staff is always sooo incredibly kind here. After a 6-hour flight from the west coast, what's more soothing than having a bowl of pho to get me settled in for my short trip in Boston? I looked for pho delivery near my hotel and found Pho 1. After reading all the glowing reviews, I decided to give it a try. I can only speak to the food since I ordered delivery and didn't dine in. I ordered Dax Biet and Thai iced tea. I paid a bit extra to have it delivered directly to me, and let me tell you it's worth every penny! When it arrived, the broth was still piping hot! So when I out the raw meat in the broth, it actually cooked the meat to perfection. The broth tasted really good as well and everything tasted great. Such a satisfying meal after a long haul trip! Our first in-house dine-in experience a couple of years ago wasn't the best. Customer service was sorely lacking so we never went back. However, in the past month, really wanting soup to help feel better, Pho 1 seemed a good option as any. And it was exactly what we were looking for! We were pleasantly surprised with the taste, and more than satisfied with the quantity. The shrimp entree or Tom Rang Man was the star of the show. It had a great lightly flavored peanutty base. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and it went well with the sauce. There were lots of different veggies. With white rice, this was a filling and delicious dish. The veggie pho was mildly flavored. The warmth was comforting and loaded with a great combination of veggies send rice noodles. Big portion, enough for multiple meals! The Tom yum soup appetizer packed a big punch. This is a review of takeout experience (through GrubHub). Pho Zabb is rated 4.7 on Grubhub, but: NO WAY! I accidentally ordered from the place having vowed not to after the first time. Chicken satay is underseasoned, huge pieces of chicken with unpleasant-tasting sauce. The tofu basil came without rice and was watery and had maybe 6 soggy pieces of tofu in it. The pho is only one size compared to other places that might have an XL. The combination rice platter was pretty tasty. An overall thing I noticed was that the meats were a bit tough. The photos of the fried chicken that everyone convinced me to get it as well. It was fried perfectly so definitely crunchy but the meat wasn't really that great. It also came with a choice of side which I chose fries and that was really tasty! The pork chop on their rice combo wasn't really tender either. Their pad thai was kind of stuck together. Pho 1 Brighton is one of my top spots to get pho. If you're like me, you've probably done your Yelping and searching and know there are several places around to get pho - so, how do you choose? I've tried many (dare I say...most?) local pho places and always come back to Pho 1 Brighton. They are consistently good - flavorful, but not overpowering broth, generous serving sizes, and good meat to soup ratio. The restaurant is not small but it feels like they put too many tables into the seating area, making it feel more crowded than it was. The menu is very extensive. They are called pho 1, but did not have that many pho options. A lot of the food is Vietnamese, but then there's some Japanese/Thai/Korean/asian fusion. They advertise asian street food. The menu itself can be overwhelming because they list foods by the type of asian foods so you see multiple columns of apps and entrees. When I see an extensive menu like this, I can't help but wonder the quality and authenticity that goes into each dish. I ordered the pho tai, the soup was a bit salty but the biggest thing was that the noodles were over cooked. So it was mushy to eat. I think they def over do the onions, I thought I was picking up a bite full of noodles only to find out it was all onion.. portion size was on the smaller side but at $8.95 price point, you won't find a bowl of pho for less. Both were good but this wouldn't be my go-to place for either of these dishes. I've been here twice in the last two months and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. I usually trek down this corner on Chiswick to get to Yamato, but this place caught my eye. The pho is light and fragrant and very satisfying for a Boston winter. The chicken wings were crispy - but make sure to eat them when they're fresh to the table since the sauce can get sticky and toughen up the exterior. This spot very recently opened up and with many other new restaurants there are problems that will hopefully work themselves out to avoid a possible downfall in the establishment. I will go any distance for Pho and luckily this only a 5 minute walk from my apartment. There are many reasons to go here, but what peaked my interest on a rainy day was watching a group of people eating pho and drinking bubble tea. I was hooked since then to come in and give this place a shot. The actual place itself is relatively small but they offer many great seating options to compensate the size. We were greeted by a smiley hostess/front desk lady and taken to our seats. Around this time there were probably about 3 other groups dining. It did take about 15 minutes to receive our waters but it appeared that there was only one waiter in the whole establishment running around which explained the slow service to follow the rest of the dinner. The menu is probably their biggest pho-pas (get it, because it's pho...) There is nothing worse than getting completely overwhelmed at a restaurant with the contents of the menu. I counted 150 different dishes. That is right, one hundred and fifty dishes. Even half of that would be too many. I appreciate a restaurant that wants to offer variety but this is what we call overdoing it. I also cannot imagine how this will be a profitable option for the restaurant if they have to order so many different types of food for them just to go bad within a week. A large menu in my opinion is too overwhelming for the patron and it can be a huge turn off. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to decide what you want but that is not enough time to even read this menu. As for the food, I got the dac biet and a coconut bubble tea. Dac biet is sort of my go to at most pho places and they did not disappoint. It was everything I expected it to be and more. I will definitely be going back as I really enjoyed my pho and I want to check out the rest of the items. However, that may take years! read more
