Small chicken with mixed vegetables ($7.75 with tax, April 2015)
    Logan D.

I ended up here today after realizing neighboring Kamiza Sushi didn't open until 4! This place is a small walk-up and order Chinese restaurant and my girlfriend and I were the only ones there when we came around 2PM on a Monday. However, between 2-2:30 at least 3 more people came in for take-out and dine-in, leading me to believe that it's somewhat popular due to the odd hour. I ordered a small Chicken and Mixed Vegetables: 7.25 + 0.50 tax = $7.75.My girlfriend ordered a small Chicken Fried Rice for 5.50 and I believe her total was $5.85. The food came in about 10 minutes and included soy sauce and a fortune cookie. There was much more vegetable than chicken, and after eating all of the chicken and vegetables I liked I just tossed the rest. As such, I don't consider it a great value since I expect an $8 sandwich somewhere else would be two servings. The dish was not very visually appealing--it looked (and tasted) pretty bland. The chicken was fine, and some of the vegetables were tasty--particularly the carrots and broccoli. The other vegetables (onions, mushrooms, three vegetables I wasn't familiar with), were tasteless. Adding soy sauce didn't help much because the broth that the dish was cooked in was pretty slimy and coated everything. There was also an odd smell that turned me off (probably one of the vegetables). The chicken fried rice was decent--not bad, but nothing special. Overall, although service was quick at the odd hour, I didn't think this place was particularly tasty or economical.

This is objectively the #1 best Chinese food in Boston. I have been coming here for 23 years and there's no stopping me now!

Food is average for chinese in the city. The worst part about this place is the 1.5 hours it takes for delivery. So plan for that.

Such a good spot for a cozy filling meal. STEAMED CHICKEN GYOZA Soft tender and packed with a juicy chicken filling. The pork filling was seasoned well and the crunch made each bite so satisfying. These were gone instantly. DAC BIET A rich beef broth loaded with rare steak brisket tripe tendon and meatballs. So much flavor and such a generous portion. Comforting, savory and the kind of bowl that warms you instantly. MI WONTON Light clean and comforting. The wontons were stuffed generously and the broth was flavorful without feeling heavy. A great balance to the richer bowls we ordered. SPICY MISO BEEF STEW This was incredible. Spicy miso broth with tender slow cooked beef and all the toppings. The spice level actually enhanced the flavor instead of overpowering it. Deep savory and so satisfying. TAN TAN MEN One of my favorites. Spicy creamy broth with ground pork bok choy and bean sprouts layered over chewy noodles. Rich bold and full of flavor in every bite. We also added marinated soft boiled eggs to our ramen and they were perfect. Soft jammy and full of flavor. Highly recommend adding one to any bowl. Overall Soup Shack really hit my craving. The only thing I'd say is that this is a bit pricier than some of the other Vietnamese places I've been to, but it's definitely a place I'll be back to often. Beef Pho ($15.95) - The broth here is great - so nice and savory. You can tell that it simmers for a really long time to get all of that flavor from the bones. It has a bit of a sweet note to it as well which is a bit more than I'm used to, but I really liked it still. There was a good amount of meat, and the whole soup experience was great, especially for takeout. They did skimp on the bean sprouts and herbs with takeout though - it was a pretty small amount of veggies, but still a really solid pho. Banh Mi ($9.75) - Yes, the price is a bit high for this one as well but the size was HUGE. The pickled veggies were perfectly sweet and tart, and the cilantro added a nice freshness with the cucumbers. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the balance of flavors here was really spot on. And, like I said, it was HUGE. Definitely not the cheapest Vietnamese food I've had, but also absolutely delicious - I will be back!

We eventually were able to get in, there is a small space to wait with snacks though. Once our table was almost ready the host allowed us to order and once sat it came almost right away. We ordered the la-xi chicken with less spice, this has small crispy chicken pieces and lot of peppers, had to go in and pick out the little pieces. Truthfully wish it was less pepper and more chicken especially $23.95. The mapo tofu was delicious the perfect numbing sensation that I love. A must try dish was the fish fillet with crispy rice. This was $34 but it is perfect for cold day. They bring this dish out pour the soup on top and let it boil until the crispy gets cooked. We got the green beans as well, pretty standard nothing special. We got a little discount as well, I think for a late night special. Disappointing Service & Poor Seating Arrangement…read more Extremely disappointed with our experience here. I made a reservation for 6 people One Month in advance (in fact, today is my birthday) expecting a comfortable dining setup for my group. However, upon arrival, we were squeezed into a table clearly designed for 4 people. When we pointed this out, the staff insisted it was a '6-person table' and refused to move us to the larger tables available, claiming those were reserved for 7-8 people. This is inconsistent and unprofessional, as we have been seated at those larger tables with a group of 6 before. What's the point of making a reservation so far in advance if the restaurant can't provide adequate seating? The lack of flexibility and the dismissive attitude of the staff ruined our evening. For a place like Mountain House, I expected much better service. Will not be coming back anytime soon."

Though I haven't eaten a lot of korean food before, I felt this restaurant captures the essence of a traditional home cooked korean meal, with plates to share and perfectly personalized pots of their famous tofu soup. I would definitely recommend trying their beef and kimchi soup or their beef dumpling soup, both had standout taste while maintaining a simple flavor profile that you could continue to return to. I also absolutely loved their kimchi fried rice, so don't miss out on their additional menu items aside from their most popular offerings. Overall, I thought the food was tasty and satisfying, but otherwise there's not a specific thing that would continue to draw me back to this restaurant. The service was nice but mostly left us to ourselves and the food took a little while to come out. Unless you're really craving a korean tofu soup, I feel there's other restaurants in the area that serve up a little more variety and boldness in their flavors.
