The indoor seating area was cozy and clean and the service was friendly and fast. We got the crispy pork Khao Soi Moo Tod and the teriyaki shrimp and both came out quickly and were tasty. It was the slightest bit more expensive for the portion size and less strong in flavors than other similar spots I've been to, but still good! Tiny, charming, little shop in the heart of Davis square. We came in on a Friday evening without having to wait. It was quite cold outside at the time and space is limited and we naively took the big table by the door. Which doesn't close all the way on its own. Oof. The lady there was kind enough to close it shut when folks came in and out but there was only one of her to do everything. We ordered golden bags, a pork belly over rice dish and a crispy chicken pad Thai. The taste was very on point for each of them, the golden bags were fried with fresh oil, you could tell, and a small bite carries a ton of flavor. The pork over rice was to die for. The flavors in this were some of the best Thai I've ever had. Bit of tangy, lots of basil, and plenty of kick, I'll be dreaming of this one for awhile. The chicken pad Thai was great, but nothing too outstanding. This place is at most a 4, I've had better Thai food nearby (Rod Dee anyone?) for half the price. This was my first time at Prik Nam Pla. The nearby shops shuffled quite a bit during the pandemic but I'm glad to see there's another little Thai place here after Kor Tor Mor closed. I stopped in for a quick lunch. It's a cute place with a few small tables and one that will fit a party of four -- but don't come with a crowd. Service is quick and friendly. I got one of the $13 lunch specials, tofu red curry with gyoza (knowingly not gluten free). It came in a industrial lunch platter that was a nice presentation even if the portions were smaller. The curry had a decent amount of tofu and some other veggies, although I wish there was more. It was flavorful and spicy for someone who can tolerate a mild amount but who doesn't eat a lot of spice (for comparison it seems hotter than Cha Yen in Watertown, another more authentic Thai place). The gyoza was deep fried and fine. I would come again to try something else if u needed a quick hot lunch in Davis. But if you want to be full, get a full sized portion. read more

Little Thai joint at the edge of Davis Square towards the Tufts side, in the space previously occupied by Kor Tor Mor. A couple tables and a counter with stools. Mostly takeout but they do table service, with very minimal service (you'll need to ask for anything you need; they won't ask). Spicy Wings: Crunchy, moist but not fully juicy, just spicy enough, and more sweet than spicy. Temperature-wise, the hottest wings I've ever had: even after a few minutes of photo taking and taking the time to eat all six wings singlehandedly, still piping hot and painful to hold. Nice balance of flavors, though mostly sweet chili. Based on flavor and texture, a solid effort. Chicken Kapow: My barometer dish for Thai food cleared the hurdles flavorwise, with a good blend of dark flavors (oyster sauce and such), herbal flavors (basil), heat (chiles), and accompanying vegetables (string bean). Volumewise, a little light, with most of the bowl being the white rice. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. Pad Thai: My wife got this with tofu. Wet and sweet. If you like your Pad Thai wet and sweet, this is for you. If not, it's not. Definitely enough promise to go back, looking to try the Khao Soi, which they bill as their signature item. The Khao Soi Chicken had a creamy consistency, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The soup base had a subtle kick, which I appreciated. The Khao Soi Nua was decent. Service is fast and polite and prices are similar for Cambridge/Boston. The lunch special (Tue-Friday from 1130am-3pm) is a particularly good deal, offering a choice of 8 different entrees with a side (gyoza, chive cake, or crab rangoon), for $13. I found it pretty filling for one person and took home part of my entree. We've sampled a few of their dishes, and particularly like the "veggie dumpling" appetizer (it's a fried chive cake with a mochi-like consistency, absolutely delicious), the kapow (quite spicy, but so flavorful), and the pad thai (standard American styled pad thai). I went to Prik Nam Pla next to Davis in Somerville on 24 College Ave, Somerville, MA 02144 Prik Nam Pla is an essential table condiment in a Thai eatery. In many thaidishes they often pour a small amount over dishes such as fried rice, noodles, or curry to enhance the flavor of the dish. And boy oh boy did it really enhance the flavors of the dishes we had! For drinks we had a classic thai iced tea which was the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. For appetizers we had the pork gyoza, shrimp tempura and golden bag. I personally never had a golden bag before! These were filled with chicken, sweet corn, and scallion. They became my personal favorite of the three. For entrees we had the khao soi kai (chicken) which was served with crispy yellow noodles, red onion, cabbage, scallions and lime. We also had kapow shrimp with vegetables Finally, for dessert we had mango sticky rice. The mango was fresh and blended well with the sweet sticky rice. Prik Nam Pla is a welcome and new addition to the already great lineup in Davis Square. While it is not without competition, the menu is slightly different and feels more like a takeout-style restaurant than a sit and eat due to the limited space (there are tables and seats should you want to dine in). The food is very well done, not greasy or laden with oil as some Thai restaurants can be. It is also VERY reasonably priced. We got 2 entrees, an appetizer, and with tax and tip it was in the low-to-mid $40s. The workers were pleasant and the food was on time for pickup, which has not always been the case in recent takeout memories... so they seem to have everything figured out and won't leave you waiting for your order for too long. I think trying some of the new/different dishes will be interesting as they have different menu items than the other Thai restaurants in the area. They are a pleasant addition to an already great lineup in Davis Square. They also bring a different vibe and unique options at really reasonable prices and know how to keep the food tasty, well-seasoned (and spicy!), and do it all with a smile on their face. Prik Nam Pla used to be Kor Tor Mor which I was a fan of. They've rebranded and updated their menu and I'm excited they've reopened! The interior is small but looks great. I ordered the chicken kapow and it was delicious!! Pretty good medium spice and super flavorful. I also ordered the gyoza which are fried and they were pretty tasty. The staff was incredibly polite and my take out order was ready super fast! I'll definitely be trying more off the menu but if it's the same people behind Kor Tor Mor, I know it'll be delicious Thai food! Prik Nam Pla is a relatively new addition to Davis. I've been excited to try it with the different types of food they offer. We started with veggie dumplings which is one of my favorite Thai street food. These do not disappoint! Highly recommend trying them out. We also tried the golden bag, which I've never had before. I originally did not know how to eat them - if you open them or what? It turns out you just eat the whole thing, and it was delicious! Crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside. For my entree, I tried the Khao Na Kai which is essentially a chicken bown topped with gravy. It is a savory comfort meal, and an old fashioned Thai-Chinese dish that is popular in Bangkok.
