Seafood pho and a vegetarian dish.

I enjoyed my seafood pho and a half order of tofu fresh rolls. Hubby said the spice in his vegetarian dish was perfect. Service was pleasant.

When I was in college, this was the go-to place for me and my friends! The food is very decently priced and pretty tasty overall. Although it's called Pho 1, I wouldn't say this place specializes in Vietnamese food. It's decent enough to be satisfied if you're craving some Vietnamese food though! Ironically, when I'm here I rarely get Vietnamese food because I think it's just okay. I have tried their pho dac biet and bun thit nuong and it's pretty solid for what it is but not the best in the world. Usually, when I'm here, I actually get their double-fried chicken wings with radish! It's always very crispy and flavorful. There have been one or two times when my friend has gotten a piece of chicken that is a little undercooked though. However, I would still definitely recommend getting their fried chicken! I also like their pad thai with crispy chicken and the sweet and sour sauce that comes with it. The Thai iced tea is also tasty, a bit on the sweeter end but very good. The restaurant can get a bit busy and they usually only have two or three wait staff who handle everything (from online orders, delivery, and the people in the restaurant). However, they are always attentive, and friendly, and provide excellent customer service. Since they are busy though, food sometimes takes a while to get out. It's a good place to get a quick bite for a decent price. It's clean and there's usually some music that plays on the TV. There's also plenty of parking nearby in the Waltham lots or even on Moody Street itself. If you're nearby and considering coming here, definitely do it!

I've been here lots of time. It's delicious and not very expensive! They give large amounts of food. Love the fried chicken --it's a must-order! The Pho Biet is the best. Though I don't think it's the best Vietnamese restaurant I've ever tried, but it's a good choice if you want a comfortable and affordable and good meal.

I have been on the hunt to find good Vietnamese food in the burbs, and sadly, I still am on the hunt. I walked in here with hopes that this would be "the one" but after ordering the summer roll with shrimp, I realized that I shouldn't set myself up for disappointment. The summer roll arrived and there were 2 tiny little pieces of shrimp that were hidden by the bed of chopped lettuce. The pho was actually ok, the broth was sweet, but not enough pho noodles but also not enough types of meat to be considered dac biet. Finally the bun thit nuong cha gio is vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls. There was one tiny little spring roll the size of my pinky that was cut up further into 3 tiny little pieces. Again, the only reason that I gave 2 stars was because the pho actually wasn't that bad. The other 2 dishes that I got are usually Vietnamese staples so if you can't get those right, then I'm not sure what could even be right? This was a miss for me. The hunt for decent Vietnamese in the burbs continues.

5 Stars: A definite recommendation and a personal favorite! You HAVE to try this place! 4 Stars: Great experience. Strongly Recommend you stop by. A place I plan to frequent. Just shy of being a favorite. 3 Stars: Average experience. Great to try once but not a place I plan to frequent. 2 Stars: Poor experience. There were mistakes with the meal or it may have just been a bad day for the establishment. 1 Star: Terrible experience. Avoid at all cost. Comments: Although the service is great and the staff is friendly, the food has a few shortcomings that resulted in the two stars. The crispy roll was probably the best part of the meal. The roll itself is flavorful but the sauce is not. For my tastes, it is too watered down and lacking that punch from the fish sauce. The pho was underwhelming. Overall the flavor was bland. I could see it being a good match for some, especially if the usual flavor of pho is too strong for them. Personally, I like a richer broth, so this was not the right bowl of pho for me. Nothing in particular stood out and it did not satisfy my craving for pho. Thus, two stars.

Life is short. F.....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends A nice small family owned place right in the heart of Waltham on Moody st. Friendly stafff and clean. I got the Bun Tom Thit Cha Gio Nam Nuang - which vermicelli noodle w everything. Everything cooked very good and flavorful but always room for improvement. What was really surprising was the twice cooked Garlic wings. A must try if you go savory crispy and better than ........dare I say bonchon.

The food here is excellent! I've eaten at a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in several different cities. This restaurant holds up with some of the best. The Sour soup is incredible. So is the pho. I definitely recommend this restaurant. The decor is a bit dated, but the food is fantastic.

My go-to spot for Vietnamese food in Waltham! Food: I got the Bun Thit Nuong, which is vermicelli with grilled sliced pork. The bowl is actually pretty deep so it took me a while to finish the entire bowl. The pork is tender which goes well with the vermicelli. Pricing: It is relatively less expensive compared to other Viet restaurants in the Boston/Quincy area. The fact that it stays under $15 ($12.95 for this particular dish) is rare these days in my opinion. Service: We came here on a Saturday night around 7 pm and the place was quite busy. There were only two people serving customers and handling phone orders. However, they were quick and checked up on us periodically. Parking: You can find street parking along Moody Street. Also recommend the Embassy Public Parking Lot on Pine Street.

I have friends who tell me, "You could just make those spring rolls yourself, you know..."…read more Lies. (I've tried. They tasted like sadness.) The ones from Banh Mi Cafe are enormous, sooo fresh, and exactly what I wish mine tasted like. Both the fish sauce and the peanut sauce are excellent, and when I need to bring something to a summer potluck but don't have time to cook, I just order six orders of spring rolls and suddenly everyone at the potluck is happy. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is also absolute jet fuel. It's my go-to whenever I need to work a late night. But the reason I'll always be loyal to Banh Mi Café has nothing to do with the food. ::IT'S STORYTIME:: One evening I developed an absolutely irrational craving for their avocado smoothie with boba. I spent the whole day thinking about it, finally placed an online order, and then got a phone call saying they had just run out. They apologized and offered a replacement or a refund. Instead, I asked them a weird question: "I know this is kind of crazy...but if you'll have avocado again on Saturday, could you just make this exact order then instead, and I'll come pick it up?" To my surprise, they said yes. A couple of days later, I picked up my avocado smoothie, my fresh spring rolls, and went home happy. Maybe it was more work than it was worth for the employee, maybe it wasn't; either way, they took an odd request seriously, and that's the kind of customer service that sticks with you. Beyond the spring rolls, I've also really enjoyed the nem chua, the cold cut banh mi (I wish the bread were a little softer, but the condiments and veggies are excellent), and the grilled beef wrapped in betel leaves, which I hadn't tried before and now LOVE. I still have a growing list of desserts to work through, including the flan. One thing to know before you go, regarding ambiance: this is more of a grab-and-go spot, not somewhere to settle in for lunch. There are only a few bar seats, so I almost always take my food with me, sometimes to the nearby park. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants around Boston, and while I'll always happily try new ones, Banh Mi Cafe has earned my loyalty, one avocado smoothie at a time.
