What's going on here? Some things are excellent. Some things are inedible. Prices are way too high for a culinary roller coaster. One server on at dinner time. But, I get it. There aren't a lot of customers. Now I see why there are no customers. The beef short ribs are one of the most expensive things on the menu. You screw up your star entree, you are screwed. Two ribs are served on a plate. I had to fight to use my BUTTER KNIFE to get the meat off the bone. With the sauce splattering all over my clothes. The server walks by and doesn't respond to my attempt to get her attention. I get up, go to the front, and ask for a knife. A steak knife, because the short ribs are too tough. She says they have no knives like that, so she'll go get a knife from the kitchen. She shows up at our table with a boning knife from the chef. Not safe. My husband literally crunched on the short rib meat because the gristle was not cooked down. That should have elicited a visit from the chef or a manager. Or at least an apology. An offer to comp the item. Nope. She just ignored the problem. Well, if you ignore your customers problems with your restaurant, you customers will ignore your restaurant. Period. The muscles were great. I do recommend people to try the muscles. However, the sauce was not edible. The lime was way too overpowering. The rolls combo appetizer was great! But the main event was the short rib entree. Major fail. I'm sure it's not like that everyday, but teach your guys how to properly braise meat. And apologize when it's not done right. We paid $9 for a quarter filled glass of wine. How cheap can you be? This isn't house wine. Fill the glass a little! The environment. Pretty dining room. Gorgeous communal table. But I HIGHLY recommend that you sit in the back during the summer. They have a serious ventilation problem. No air conditioning in the front. They tried to sit us up front, but I read a previous review that explained the stuffy dining room. So, unless you ask to sit somewhere you can breathe, they try to sit people near the front windows where it is sweltering!

Back away and let me at those damn good short ribs -- they made a believer out of me! Service is always good; and it's the only place in Belmont center that has a "classy date night" atmosphere with the warm glowing lanterns and rich dark wood tables and is still spacious and welcoming enough to families and larger groups wanting to have a nicer dinner out.

This is hands down the best restaurant in Belmont. I come here every time I'm in Boston. The owner takes extremely good care of us so the service is excellent. He said he keeps the food authentic so everything is REAL Thai food. To be honest I think some dishes are better than Thai food I had in Thailand!!! I recommend Green Curry and Siam Rolls Right now they have lunch deal only $13!!

I ordered the Papaya salad, Chicken satay. Curry Shortribs and Phad See Yue with beef and the mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream. It was very busy but we were able to get a table for two within 5 min. The service was super slow. Took ~20 min for our server to take our order & another 40 min for our food to come. We noticed our server was the only server for all the tables, haha crazy! Here's what we ended up ordering: -roti (w/ potato curry sauce) -chicken wings (w/ spicy garlic sauce) -pad see ew -pla pad kun chai (fried cod fish fillet w/ lemongrass + Chinese celery) -Thai iced tea We tried the chicken wings, the roti, and Thai iced teas at the restaurant & ended up requesting for the rest of our food to go since we were on a time crunch. Thoughts: The pad see ew was delicious! We reheated it later that night & it was flavorful. I would definitely get this again. The chicken wings had good flavor but we found the chicken itself to be very dry inside. Made it difficult to enjoy. I loved the potato curry sauce that came with the roti. Simple but tasty dish. The pla pad kun chai was our least favorite dish we ordered. It didn't taste good at all after reheating. We're curious if we would've enjoyed this more if we ate it at the restaurant when it was fresh? The fish had a very fishy smell & didn't taste like it had been treated with lemon, vinegar, or both. We usually enjoy cod fish & lemongrass but this was a complete miss for us. Lastly, the Thai iced tea was okay. It was a bit too watery for us & we wished it could've been creamier. Overall, I would come back again to give Cha Yen another try. I did like the dishes we tried at the restaurant & perhaps the fish for example would've tasted better if had at the restaurant.

Bonus points for an extravagantly laminated menu that has pictures of every single dish rendered in uber-colorful detail. We got the: papaya salad with shrimp; chicken satay; crab fried rice; pad thai; and mango sticky rice. More than enough food to feed two people, including a little bit for leftovers the next day. The crab fried rice - please, please get this. I'm usually not a fried rice person, as my parents taught me long ago that rice is just filler and must be avoided at all costs at the buffet line, but their crab fried rice is stellar. Loaded with generous chunks of real crab and so flavorful, with the smokiness of the wok permeating through. I also usually skip the pad thai at any Thai restaurant but I loved this rendition, beautiful balance of sweet and salty, and with all the necessary accoutrements, like chopped peanuts and a squeeze of lime. I would say the chicken satay is maybe a skip but it comes with an incredible peanut sauce that I love to slather on top of everything. Mango sticky rice: eh, it's not the season for mango. The one that came with ours was definitely a bit anemic and limp. The warm sticky rice covered in condensed milk with the faintest tinge of pandan green was good enough to eat on its own. They're really busy so not the best place to sit and talk with your friends all evening. Also not a lot of street parking on a busy street. I suggest walking or taking the bus over. Need to order the fried fish next time. You know a Thai place is excellent when I'm lured away from my beloved green curry to try the other options.

For $17.95, getting 3 rolls of sushi isn't a bad deal, so I'm giving this a 4/5. The combo comes with a spicy tuna roll, a california roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Spicy Tuna Roll: This was pretty disappointing. I really love spicy tuna rolls that have the minced tuna, spicy mayo, and tempura flakes all mixed together, but this was not that. This roll was a tuna cucumber roll with spicy mayo drizzled on top. With that, the spicy mayo was really overpowering and I couldn't taste the tuna at all. I'd prefer the normal tempura and mayo taste or just a tuna and cucumber, but doing it this way wasn't my favorite. California Roll: This was not bad - the imitation crab was big and plump and there was fish roe inside of the roll instead of on the outside which made it have a better texture in my opinion. The avocado was fresh and these bites were pretty enjoyable. Salmon Avocado Roll - This was the best roll of the 3 - the salmon tasted good and the avocado was fresh again. In all 3 rolls, the rice was a little dense, but at least it was a very filling 3 rolls for a good price point. 4/5!
