Really good serving and the chicken was so tasty. Must try the family platter if you have company or even if you just can't decide which Thai chicken dish to order.
Great chicken poached, roasted or crispy I ordered a roasted and a crispy combo and both nice quality tender chicken . I liked the roasted flavors. Comes with soup , rice, 2 sauces. All was great for a lunch . Should offer a bbq , jerk , Hawaiian chicken options too Ribs?
Not only is What Da Chick an adorable name, but their food is impactful as well. I ended up trying their Crispy & Roasted combo. Would say their chicken was definitely juicy and my only gripe was the crispy skin was not as crispy as expected. Otherwise this entree was delicious. I also enjoyed their tamarind sauce! It was a perfect blend of sweet & sour. The Daikon Soup that comes with all their combos is so flavorful & heartwarming too. The service was lovely as well! They checked in often to make sure everything was to our liking. What Da Chick is perfect if you're craving some homestyle comfort food.
Got this for takeout. It was ready to go when I arrived and service was friendly. Overall, food was very good even for takeout and comparable to when I eat there in person.
Very affordable spot with solid food overall. I tried the da chick satay and the spicy crispy chick rice, and the chicken itself was easily the highlight, being very flavorful and juicy. I wasn't a big fan of the sweet chili sauce, although the chicken had enough flavor on its own that I didn't need to rely on the sauce. The rice and cucumbers were pretty mediocre and felt more like filler, but for the price and chicken quality, I would come back again.
Tender, juicy, and well-seasoned chicken? Definitely! I got the Combo Crispy & Roasted Rice. The only gripe first: the crispy chicken was only somewhat crispy as other people have mentioned. Otherwise, the dish was delicious and all the accompaniments stood out in their own way. The nourishing daikon soup, the subtle ginger flavor in the rice, and especially the What Da Chick (fermented bean) dipping sauce--absolutely bomb. So good I bought an 8 oz container of it! Easily worth the detour!
We were down the street and decided to come back here for dinner. We got it to go. Saw that they're serving khao soi now and definitely had to try it. Brought it home, prepped it, and served! First sip of the broth, packed with a punch of flavor. I love it so much. It pairs so well with the egg noodles. Imagine if I had it there and not to go . It would definitely hit even more! Highly recommend giving this a try. As always, always a favorite spot to grab hainanese chicken. Friendly staff.
This place serves only chicken but has perfected the craft. I have been to this establishment multiple times. The service is good for a hole-in-the-wall joint. The soup that comes with the chicken meals will warm your soul. The broth is well seasoned and the daikon radish in the soup adds an extra layer of flavor. The sauces that come with the chicken dishes are also lovely with one of them being quite spicy and garlicky. The sauces and the rice reminds of Hainanese chicken. The fried chicken and the steamed chicken are my favorite. The chicken meat is well seasoned and juicy. All in all, if you love chicken, this place is for you.
Food here is always delicious. The family platter is $80, rice, three types of chicken, and three sauces, all fantastic. New khao sai hit - it was so much fragrant curry flavor with just the right amount of spice. Drinks all slapped - sampled the Thai coffee, matcha iced tea, Thai iced tea, and longan juice and all were fire, not too sweet. Ambiance is definitely the growth point, but overall great service and food!
My friends love WDC. And I guess I kind of see the hype. I finally got to go after a while, and I got the original chicken rice, while my friend got crispy. Honestly the crispy was 1000% better than the original - My original chicken was pretty dry and I was pretty disappointed. Other than that, the rice is good. The soup that it came with was good too. I liked the sauces - they were super flavorful and were standard with chicken and rice. The service was quick and no frills - I would come back for a cheap, healthy-ish bite.
Great experience! Honestly a great go to place to eat the best chicken rice I've had. I got the Combo Poached & Spicy Crispy Rice. The chicken was super juicy, and the crispy chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The seasoning was on point to addiction. They provided enough flavor that I personally didnt need the sauce they gave. The place was peaceful and comfy. Waitress was nice when she took the orders. The service was fast. Prices are good for a satisfying meal with a soup on the side. Definitely will come again when I'm in the area.
Me and some friends stopped by What Da Chick after a sports tournament in the area, and we had a great time! What Da Chick offers chicken and rice bowls with Thai sauces and seasonings. And they knock it out of the park!! The chicken is fried nicely. I got the Crispy Chick Bowl, since I was a bit nervous the Spicy Chick Bowl would be too spicy. I didn't realize the Spicy Chick Bowl isn't too spicy at all, it's just the same chicken with a nice seasoning blend. If I get the chance to come back, I'd definitely get that next time. Service was super speedy--we came in, ordered at the front, were seated quickly, and then our food came out within 5min. The people who greeted us were great! The space was large enough to accommodate a group of 6 during lunch hours with no wait, which was nice. The Thai Iced Tea was great! A bit strong (they just add a bit of half and half to it), but I'd rather that than have it too milky. I got to try some of the peanut sauce that you can order as well since my friend bought it, and that was DELICIOUS. Definitely getting it next time. Overall, great stuff! I'll happily be back here when I'm in the area.
Their menu is limited to chicken like their name implies. They have a sit down area but a large portion of their business is take out. The waitress knew the menu: chicken and rice. I was seated upon which I was promptly given a water and ordered chicken and rice. The tables and seating were bare bones, very uncomfortable. They served me a bowl of daikon soup which was chicken soup that had some diced pineapple in it. The chicken arrived . It looked like it was boiled because the skin was still attached and was not crispy. I peeled the skin off because it looked unappetizing. The chicken was still cooked despite the skin. The chicken was accompanied with a side of white rice and some ginger sauce. The restaurant actually filled up. Their Chicken and rice is more popular than I imagined. It must be the price because I could not think of any other reason. I would think twice before returning.
What! What! What! Da Chick! Love coming here for delicious, juicy, cooked to perfection chicken!! This small spot packs a big chicken punch! We recently dined in and we're surprised and intrigued but their new items on their menu. They added satay appetizers aswell as curries and even chicken Khao soi which I want to try all of them! The waiters are always super nice and attentive and they always make sure your glass of water is topped off. They have other specialty drinks which I haven't tried all but look good. I really like that they have several options of how you want your chicken cooked. You can get it boiled, fried, crispy and now in satay, curries and soups!! We ordered the satay to start and we were nicely surprised of the huge portions! Literally full by the time we got our main entrees! Our main entrees where so good! I really love their spicy dipping sauces which come with your entree and the rice is very flavorfull and never dry. I couldn't get enough! The chicken is so good and I can't wait to try the new items! read more
This Hainanese chicken rice eatery is really popular on Red Notes. The taste is okay, but not as good as Hen's, though it's great value for money! What Da Chicken Rice: $14.95 for 12 pieces of chicken and a huge bowl of chicken rice, plus a soup, enough for two meals. The poached chicken is tender but a bit too soft, and the dipping sauce is only sweet and spicy, which is rather monotonous. The rice, while not wet or soft, looks a bit mushy and not quite separate grains. read more
parking is a little tough but we enjoyed the food here and came back a couple of times. its a cozy and simple meal where the chicken is just enough with the rice. the rice is flavorful as well. we enjoyed the sweet and sour sauce with the chicken. the chicken is moist enough which the sauce is just for added flavor if you want it but aside from that the dishes are very simple and good. the food comes out quick too. even if youre sitting down, you didnt have to wait for long. read more

Finished up at the RMV and was looking for a good lunch and picked this spot. First off I love Thai food and rice dishes so I knew this was gonna be the choice. Love the interior and music for what it is. This is meant to be like Thai street food, so expect that kind of fast cuisine and that it's not going to be perfect, which makes it better. We had: What Da Chick Rice (my favorite, love the sauce) Spicy Crispy Chick Rice (heavy but good) Da Chick Satay (great) (Later, had chicken rice combo and also great) Overall solid experience and will be back. read more
As their website states, this is a Hainanese chicken rice spot, or Thai Khao-Mun-Gai restaurant. I have been wanting to try this cuisine for awhile, and this place is unbelievably delicious. I wish I lived closer, but the distance is worth the yums. I found it on a whim, and I'm glad I did. The service/owner is also really friendly and took my order at the counter with a smile. Since I have choice-anxiety, I decided to go with a half spicy, half roasted chicken combo, which comes with ginger rice. The ginger flavor isn't too powerful; it's aromatic, really comforting and easy on the palate. The shumai was also delicious and HUGE! You can't tell from the photo, but 4 is more than enough because they're big! I don't eat pork, so I was elated to see that they offer chicken & shrimp shumai. I will be back. read more
We came here for dinner on a Friday night and there was no trouble getting a table. Overall it was a solid meal, but nothing too special. Service was quick, and we ordered the What Da Chick rice dish and the Crispy Chicken rice dish. Both dishes came with a daikon soup which was clean tasting and a nice touch to the rice dish. The chicken was tender, and both sauces paired well with the chicken and rice. I was expecting the ginger sauce to be something more like Hainanese chicken but it ended up tasting like a savory jam sauce. Still yummy, just not what I expected. The crispy chicken was also more on the soggy side, but it was still decent with the sweet chili sauce that accompanied it. Last summer, we stopped by this little restaurant for a quick dinner. I got the combo chick rice plate which came with half poached chicken and half crispy chicken. It came with sliced cucumbers, ginger sauce, and sweet chili sauce. I really wanted to like it but I thought the chicken was just average. I think if the chicken was warm or piping hot, it would have made a big difference. read more

So much fun to see this little spot I have been ordering from for years. Workers are friendly. Space is intimate the food was incredible. Just like my mom's Thai food at home. read more
We ordered 2 lunch plates, both came with radish soup which was a tad on the salty side. Its a bonus, so no big deal. Combo chicken - Comes with crispy chicken and what looks like boiled chicken. The chicken sits on top of a good portion of rice and a few cucumber slices. 2 sauces are included with this, a brown spicy one and the traditional sweet chili sauce. The boiled chicken was not too dry and not overly flavorful. You should dip them in the sauces...the brownish spicy one was my favorite. The crispy chicken wasn't KFC-like crispy by any means, but more of a light crisp to it. The chicken was not juicy, and if I had to eer towards one side, I'd say more on the dry side, but it was still enjoyable with the dip. The rice is not traditional white rice. This one is definitely cooked or flavored with some chicken or something. Its got a slight salty comforting flavor. Crispy chicken plate - This is covered above, as its the same exact chicken. Since its not a combo, you do get more crispy chicken than the above combo plate. This one is also $1 cheaper. We enjoyed are 2 lunch plates. Its about what we'd expect from this fast food chicken joint with decent pricing. We'd be open to trying it again sometime, but there just wasn't enough on this visit to make us yearn for it anytime soon. read more

Small hole in the wall but packs big flavors. I'm a sucker for Khao Man Gai and this place specializes in it. From the original poached chicken to crispy fried, the chicken is juicy and sat on top of seasoned rice. The sauce and bowl of daikon soup accompanies it so well. As far ass service, we went around noon on a weekday and were seated immediately. The dining area is limited to 4-5 tables only. Food came out quick and while we were there, they seemed really occupied filling out take out orders. They since added to the menu from our last visit and will definitely be back to try the new selections. read more

Stopped by What the Chick for a quick lunch with a friend. We ordered the Thai Matcha Iced Tea, The Chick Buns, What the Chick Rice, and Thai Tea. Everything was delicious and the chicken was made to perfection, tender and juicy. The matcha milk tea was refreshingly perfect, even though they don't allow sugar level adjustments. The real star of the meal was the Daikon Soup that came with the rice--absolutely outstanding! Lastly, the service was great and the place is small but cozy. read more

Favorite Thai food I've ever had, and I'm from San Francisco. I don't even like curry, but this Thai curry soup is to die for. Dipped in my spicy crispy chicken in it, makes it perfectly crunchy with sour. Definitely try, you would never EVER regret it. The value of this place is too good to be true. Also got the longan drink, amazing. Can't wait to try the Thai milk tea. Service was great, it's such a cute hole in the wall restaurant. Can't go wrong, 5 stars. read more

Roasted chicken 5/5 Combo chicken dish 5/5 Great place for a casual bite to eat! The roasted chicken with the ginger rice and tamarind sauce, plus the refreshing slices of cucumber was so good! I equally enjoyed the combo chicken dish (half crispy chicken, half poached chicken). Their sauces really add to the already flavorful base of rice and chicken. Will definitely come here again. Hard to find a place with these portion sizes for the price. Went here with a friend for takeout and service was quick and polite. It's a small space with only a few tables for dine-in. Very casual ambience. There were maybe 5 spots for parking on the side street. read more

I'm usually not a chicken fan (beef is my forte) but I came here with my friends since we were nearby. To my surprise, I enjoyed every chicken dish! They are juicy, flavorful, and simply heavenly. The Thai hospitality was prominent so the service was amazing. The walls are covered in cute little chick murals creating this comfortable and inviting ambiance. This hidden gem is nestled in a residential neighborhood but totally worth the trip to find it. read more

This much deserved review came after a short culinary interchange that took place in the professional kitchen. It is quite common during the breakdown of ingredients that either the FOH or BOH would make comments or questions in relation to what is being prepared at the moment. In this case, I was working with braised lamb when one of my favorite servers stopped by and asked what I was working with at the moment. Unsurprisingly, they can't tell if I was working with beef or lamb or whatever red-meat as they only have the menu to decipher from. However, I always do the same thing - remind them to smell the "scent" - even if their noses have not been trained or genetically predisposed to do so. "Chef, what meat would you choose to eat for the rest of your life if that's the only option." (Says beloved server after professing absolute love to lamb upon realizing it was what I was working on). "Chicken, always chicken. I can eat chicken forever because it's the best protein to handle an endless amount of cooking styles, clean in flavour (not overwhelming like salmon or game meats), and simply versatile." His look was one of those types of Eureka moments. Like a lightbulb went off and he wanted more of what I had to say (BOH win moment). But it was this interchange that sparked it all and led to this review. I've been here quite a bit in person and takeout. It should be no surprise as I've always been obsessed with Hainanese Chicken Rice and every derivative of it - including Khao Man Gai. BUT what makes this place really special like all true Thai places is the heart of preparation...and here, the crispy chicken stands out, the sauces are thick and embedded with strong flavours, and the Thai service with the genuineness of familiarity that (pretty much only in Southeast Asia) treats you like a king/queen. Poached Chicken. Yes. Roast Chicken. Yes. Crispy Chicken. Yes. Spicy Crispy Chicken. Yes. Sauces. F*** yes. Soup. Yes, yes, please give me some more and yes. I would recommend this spot to anyone who respects and consumes the bird. It is the one most overlooked protein but when prepared right, demands respect. Chicken is king and I'm daring enough to say that because of the 100 day test (eat it straight for 100 days and see if you like it that much, which I did in Singapore during one particular 3.5 month visit). And here in Boston, I've found my favorite chicken spot and it's got me to say "What Da Chick", what's up and what's hot and ready? Thank you for being a culinary inspiration. Cheers and a better 2023 to ya'll. *** For owner: Please fix the "white" meat option takeout for What da Chick rice. It's the only thing I seriously had issues with your restaurant. Compared to the dark meat, which is a nice portion, the chicken breast I received were a few quick boiled slices instead of a gently poached bird. Luckily, it wasn't the first or only dish I ordered or this would have been a 2 or 3 star review. read more
This is a very cozy place, with the chairs and tables reminding me of the mom and pop restaurants in Thailand. The servers were nice and very attentive. The walls have very cute chicken artwork as well. Everything thing we had was very delicious. All the various chicken from grilled to fried was juicy and flavorful, the fried chicken was crispy and not oily, and the rice was cooked perfectly. The sauces it came with were good, I especially loved the sweet chili sauce. My favorite dish was the popcorn chicken, they use tendon, so it was crispy and crunchy. It was flavorful, and the sweet chili sauce made even tastier. read more
