Coconut Thai Food Restaurant is a charming little neighborhood spot. The space is small but cozy and nicely decorated, giving it a welcoming community restaurant vibe. The appetizers were excellent -- very flavorful and the portions were surprisingly generous. It's great for sharing. Their Thai drinks are also worth trying, especially the Thai milk tea, which was very refreshing and nicely balanced in sweetness. One small area for improvement would be the attention to detail with takeout orders. The packaging could be handled a bit more carefully. The service overall was fine, but it could be a little more attentive and polished. The only downside for dining in is the price. For a small neighborhood restaurant, the cost felt a bit on the high side -- lunch for two people came to around $100. Overall, it's a lovely local Thai restaurant with tasty food and a comfortable atmosphere. With a bit more attention to service and pricing, it could be an even better neighborhood favorite. read more

I love this place. The food is excellent. I feel lucky every time I have a chance to eat lunch or dinner there. My favorite dish is the Stone Hot Pot with beef. It's delievered to the table while still sizzling. Clean, delicious bowl full of rice, vegetables, marinated beef and an over medium egg. I used to order food from here during my undergraduate years a few years ago and it was always so good. I recently ordered it today and the quality for the pad thai for me was not that good from what I remembered it to be. As you can see, it was just noodle and the taste was a little too sweet and I wish it was a bit more savory/spicy like I asked it to be. The chicken satay was good and the summer rolls was alright (I wouldn't order it again). For the price, I thought that it was solid because it was cheap for all of this and still hit the spot. read more

A bit of a different take than other recent reviews. My wife and I were longstanding customers of Coconut Thai and loved the food. While we very much appreciate the freshened space, we found the menu and the food items themselves underwhelming, particularly in contrast to the same menu items before the shift in ownership. Of note, the food itself was less flavorful, the tofu (which had been best in class before) average, and the dishes short on fresh vegetables and creative items, particularly in comparison to our earlier experiences. We ordered Scallion Pancakes (nice and the best of the lot), Masaman Curry (bland and short on veggies), and Pad Thai (also bland and short on veggies, and the tofu was average). We plan to try again soon and have only good things to say about the venue and staff, but the food itself was a miss for us. read more

Loooove Coconut Cafe!!! This is one of our "go-to" restaurants for take out. Food is great and they deliver. We loved them pre-Covid, and are ordering a lot of take out from them during Covid. The restaurant itself is quite small so I think much of their business is take out. We love the green curry (with tofu, surprisingly will soak up the sauce and is delicious!), Pad Kee Mow (aka Drunken Noodle, we order with beef), and often get the wings for the kids. For a new change, we like to get one of their tasty salads. Our favorites are Pra Nur or the Nur Nam Tok. They are refreshing and savory. Also love the Tum Yum Noodle Soup, and we always ask to make it extra spicy! Sometimes the chicken added can be a little dry, but that was like over a year ago. We usually order beef, pork and now the fried tofu. We tried few new things today and everything was delicious. Pics posted. read more

Trying out GrubHub for the first time, saw Coconut Thai on there, and thought I'd try it out since I had heard good things. I ordered the roti and the Thai fried rice. The roti was closer to a scallion pancake than the typical thin crepe-like roti that I've previously had, but it was still delicious with the curry (though they were a bit skimpy on the curry, at least for takeout). I ordered the Thai fried rice with vegetables, and the portion was decent (probably a meal and a half's worth). The amount of veggies was less than I would've liked, but it was still delicious. Both were a bit on the salty side, but I enjoyed the food and would try Coconut Thai again (giving them 4 stars, but I'd really give them a 3.5 if I could). They were quite fast with delivery, so if you're looking for food to come in less than one hour (assuming you don't live too far away), Coconut Thai is definitely an option! read more

Two Words: Pat Thai This place has on point everything, their curries are incredible, the rice seems to be made in heaven on demand and the noodles literally never disappoint. If you want to do it right, make sure you get a couple of their chicken and beef satay along with any of the curries, i personally like the yellow curry because of how well it goes with everything else in my order. Their noodles go crazy, if you don't get the pad thai then honestly I don't understand what your intentions are. The pad thai is a gift from the thai and the incredible combination of veggies and sauce that culminate to make this incredible dish cannot be described. The drunken noodles are a solid second place to the pad thai but no doubt an honorable mention. Most other places this is my go to because its tough to know how on point the pad thai is going to be. That being said, you definitely cant' go wrong with the drunken noodles if you're crazy enough to snub the pad thai read more

I have been coming here for many years. Under new management, the food continues to be excellent and authentic Thai, but the customer service, cleanliness, and overall deco have greatly improved. I have ordered the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and the veggie rolls (appetizer, with rice noodle wraps) several times this past month. Every time, all has been cooked to perfection. Culinary bliss. I am sorry to say that we were so disappointed. Long time customers of Coconut Thai Cafe under the previous ownership. In fact, we wouldn't go anywhere else for Thai it was that good. Unbeknownst to us, the ownership changed and one night we ordered our usual; tom yum noddle soups, chicken satay, crispy pad Thai Bangkok style with beef and because Panang curry was no longer offered, the red curry with chicken. What we did get was not even close to the quality and quantity and we paid close to 50% more for it. When my husband picked up he learned it was under new ownership and he was shocked by the prices. When he got home, the whole family was disappointed in the taste and quantity of the food, especially given the cost. It's fair to say we mourned the loss of our beloved go-to Thai place. Recommendations: Change the name. It feels disingenuous to continue using the name given the complete change in quality, taste, offerings, and quantity. Another recommendation is to hire some of the previous chef's back as well as some of the most ordered menu items. We won't be going back and are on the hunt for a place that can at least come close to what we lost. read more

I used to come here a lot for lunch take-out, because the food is delicious. However, sadly, I've stopped going, because they've raised their prices while also reducing portion sizes. They no longer have lunch prices, it's only dinner sizes all the time. And the few times I have ordered it for lunch anyway (but paid dinner prices), the portions were even smaller than they used to be! I thought I just happened to get a chef who was a bit stingy the first time it happened, but then it turned out to consistently be smaller sizes, each time I ordered. It makes no sense, as you're basically getting less food for more money. So sadly, I no longer go. I hope this changes, because the food is very good. read more

I have ordered freuquently from this restaurant over the past two summers when I have been working in Wellesley. I almost always order the same thing: dinner portion of panang curry with extra rice because it lasts me a few days worth of lunches at work. Up until today the curry has always come in a taller plastic (about quart sized) container. Today it came in a smaller stirafoam container that was not even all the way full. I called the restaurant to ask if they had recently changed their dinner portion size and the woman said that they had not and they only use the taller plastic containers when someone orders extra meat or vegetables. I told her that had never been my experience before as I never order any of those extra. She also said that the stirafoam container was not all the way full because they were worried about it spilling over. But my container was not even close to the top. I told her I was unhappy with the decrease in food for the same price and that I would not be ordering from them again dispite being a very frequent customer and she hung up on me. While I do love the food this trickery is not acceptable to me so I will not be ordering again. read more

Their Tom Kha Gai (coconut/lime/galangal soup with chicken) is tangy and satisfying. The Drunken Noodles are delish. The salad with grilled chicken is large and it's hard to remember that if you order the salad, you will have to split it if you expect to have room for a main dish. I find the Satay Chicken appetizer to be a little dry, but the golden triangles are pretty righteous in their texture and flavor. For an entree, I usually eat the Rama Longsong (veggies in peanut sauce), because it is my favorite. The green curry is very, very good. The restaurant is very, very small. If you've got more than two people in your party, it'll be cramped. Like most restaurants in Wellesley, it also closes a lot earlier than you'd expect (9PM). The prices on some items can be a little higher than I'd expect. Overall, a good, friendly place. read more
