Little Spoon is a Thai restaurant tucked into a corner of Main Street in Needham with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to settle into for a relaxed dinner. We walked into a space with a cute, unique quality to it, and the menu covers a wide range of Thai dishes including ramen, curries, noodles, and rice dishes, which gives a table with different preferences plenty of directions to go. The pad see ew and basil fried rice are both solid orders that cover familiar ground competently. The noodles on the pad see ew had decent wok character and the basil fried rice was well seasoned and aromatic, though neither dish pushed beyond what you would expect from a good neighborhood Thai spot. The mango sticky rice is a satisfying finish and the sticky rice texture was on point, though the mango itself can vary depending on the season. The Thai tea is well made and a natural complement to the spicier dishes on the table. Across everything we ordered, the food was consistently good without being particularly memorable, landing in that comfortable range where you leave satisfied but not necessarily thinking about it the next day. For a weeknight dinner close to home it works well and the portion sizes are reasonable for the price. The menu is large enough that there is probably a higher ceiling to explore on return visits with some of the more distinctive options like the khao soi, tamarind wings, or crispy duck. Service and pickup accuracy have been inconsistent based on different visits, so dining in tends to produce a smoother experience than ordering out. An overall okay experience, but not worth visiting frequently. I went for dinner and ordered the coconut shrimp and chicken teriyaki. The coconut shrimp was amazing--tender, well cooked, crispy, and perfect in every way. The chicken teriyaki, however, was disappointing. The chicken wasn't marinated at all; it was basically boiled chicken with teriyaki sauce on top, and they called it chicken teriyaki. Lastly, the restaurant was labeled as Thai food, but the majority of the front menu consisted of ramen and rice plates, with no curry or pad Thai whatsoever. Tried Little Spoon Thai Kitchen for the first time and it was just okay overall. The veggie dumplings were fine, but the chive dumplings were way too oily and not very appetizing. The Kao Soi had potential but was overpowered by one strong herb -- maybe lemongrass -- so it was hard to taste or smell much else. The lo mein was fine, very mild in flavor, which actually worked well for little kids but felt a bit bland for adults. The food was really good here! This is an extremely vegan friendly restaurant! The scallion pancakes and vegetable dumplings were very good. I truly enjoyed my meal here today. Great duck pad Thai. The wings were well done too and tasty. My second time here and I think this place is very nice. Fantastic ambiance. The customer service was good but the waitress kept giving me looks of anger for asking for little things like sauce and chopsticks. I tipped her well to make up for annoying her. Service was very efficient , called in an for take-out. it was ready within about twenty minutes and the food was still warm when i got home. food order: Pineapple Fried Rice, Drunken Noodle and Spicy Drunken noodle , all very tasty! What a cozy and delicious restaurant! The menu had lora of great Thai dishes and some creative options like Thai iced tea with a popsicle and tonkatsu ramen. The menu has lots of pictures of the food, which I love. It's also a lovely texture and nice layout. Who knew I wanted a menu feel? The restaurant is really cute outside seating under umbrellas, an open front room that can be sunlit windows/shades, and a more closed off back section with dim lights. There were clusters of real flowers on the table and incredibly pretty silverware. The Jade green bathroom was glorious! I loved the chicken dumplings, ramen, and pad thai. The tofu chunks were just right and the flavors were exactly what I was looking for. It wasn't spicy at all, just great lime and peanut flavor with yummy noodles. It was really snug in the back section at a table for 2. Felt like we were eating with everyone on that long bench seat, there's just no privacy. It's also so hard to get in and out. This place is a nice spot in Needham. The staff are always friendly and I'm never disappointed by the food. I got the Black & Pepper fish, which is basically a battered fried fish stirfry. The fish was cooked well, but the star of the dish are the fresh peppercorns; they pop and add a vibrancy to the plate that I haven't found elsewhere in Boston so far. I've gotten takeout from here before but dined in the restaurant for the first time last night. I love the decor and ambiance and with the back room, it's a lot more spacious than it appears. The waitress was very prompt and friendly. I appreciated how the menu was clearly labeled with what's vegan/can be made vegan. We started with the tom kha soup which was creamy and rich and flavor. We also got the scallion pancakes as a starter and I love how they aren't dripping in oil but are still tasty. I also enjoyed the drunken noodles with tofu and the yellow curry with tofu. Upon paying for the bill, we asked to split it two way between me and my husband that seems a little bit of an issue, but she did it, but once there was no tip from my husband she kept saying "you know that charge didn't included a tip yeah" we said we know. And she kept insinuating for my husband to press the 15% tip on A $67 bill charge for food. My husband looked uncomfortable, so when it was my turn to pay my side of the bill and I didn't tip either because she kept insinuating for us to put in the tip before we even started paying much she flipped out and stated. " so no tip then no future service. only takeout." we were beyond confused as to why she was flipping out, but I definitely didn't tip after that. I hadn't even finished paying for the rest of the bill by the time that she was fuming. I said sorry I don't usually tip when waiters don't check up on us regularly or at all which she didn't and barely even spoke to us that got her more mad and then she started cussing at me and when I'm gonna guess is either Mandarin or something else because of her accent. I said it to her that she didn't have to be disrespectful and pushy to which she said something that I didn't really understand, but was very aggressive. I said "no don't get aggressive with us." My family LOVES Little Spoon. We enjoy their food for both dine-in and take-out. Ingredients always taste fresh and their dishes are filled with flavor. The food is consistently delicious and the employees are wonderful. My parents have been finding it more and more difficult to eat out at restaurants due to the noise volume at most places. However, despite being small in size, the noise level inside never gets too loud and the restaurant always feels cozy. We have never ordered anything that we did not like. Their Tom Kha soup is dream-worthy and is always a must have when we order. We also love their drunken noodles and both the red and green curry. We usually switch up the starters that we order but have enjoyed every item on their menu that we have tried. The service is a bit slow even though it is not full. So, come if you are not in a hurry. DO NOT TRUST GLUTEN-FREE PREP HERE. My daughter (who has celiac) went here for a birthday dinner meal with 5 of her friends. When she asked how the dishes marked gluten free on the menu would be prepared as gluten free, she realized (a) they do not use a separate grill, (b) for gluten-free prep, they replace fish sauce with soy sauce. When my daughter (who is 17) tried explaining to the owner that (a) without a separate grill, cross-contamination is an issue, and (b) soy sauce has gluten, the owner/manager was extremely rude and condescending to my daughter and her friends, and failed to acknowledge that his so called gluten free prep is not gluten free at all. So anyone who is gluten-intolerant, has celiac, or is allergic to rude owners/managers, avoid this place. read more

Thought I'd try to help a relatively new business. I ordered by phone and from the start I was concerned that my food might not be up to par. I was very clear that I wanted large tom yum soup, thai spicy 3-star and wanted extra vegetables added. The female (owner I believe) told me they only had one size - small. I found that odd, but accepted it and reemphasized I wanted extra vegetables added. Next I ordered the mixed vegetables with brown rice and tofu. I ordered it thai spicy 4 star and asked them to not use oil in it, just use a little of their brown sauce to make the dish. The female said they needed to use oil so the food doesn't stick. (Maybe the should get a property seasoned cat iron wok?) I questioned why they couldn't just use the minimum amount of brown sauce (which has a tiny bit of oil already in it) instead of adding more oil. She said they couldn't do it that way. I reluctantly agreed to accepting MY food, THEIR way and asked again (emphasized) they only use bare minimum and told her I didn't want oil at all but accepted the bare minimum they needed to cook the food. Fifteen minutes later, I entered the restaurant. The food was still being prepared. I was the only customer inside. While I waited, I look the place over and read a newspaper article preserved in a frame on the wall. It spoke of the female owner's emigration to the USA, some challenges, the birth of her child and vision for her business, including its name change prior to opening. Twice during my 15 minute wait for the food, I was asked by two different employees to pay for my order while they were cooking it. Because I have experienced an issue in the past with other takeout orders, paying while the order was being made and finding it was wrong when they gave it to me and either having a discussion with the restaurant manager to get it redone the way I ordered it and they do or getting stuck with food not meeting my requests, thus having to pay for it, tossing it, and having to go elsewhere for food and paying for it too (something I work hard not to accept as the final outcome). Therefore both times I declined to pay first and told them I will pay when I see and check what I ordered and it was made according to my request and they accepted (thus a verbal contract). When the food arrived I was asked again to pay for it. Again I said I would as soon as I checked it to make sure it was made the way I ordered it. The male worker wasn't happy and questioned why i needed to check it but he accepted it. To my surprise, the order didn't have any tom yum soup at all. The mixed vegetables were coated completely 100% with oil. And even worse, they gave me deep fried tofu cut into triangles. Could the order have ever been more wrong and totally opposite what I asked for? I don't think so. I pointed out the discrepancies and in response they offered to add the tom yum soup. I told them it didn't correct the oil soup mixed vegetable dish and deep fried tofu I didn't order and left fuming. I went to a pizza place nearby instead. It was Greek and the pizza sauce had no flavor but was something to eat, so I went with it. Overall I do not recommend this establishment at all. Maybe there is a communication issue with the owner and staff not being native to the USA, but when running a business having at least sufficient English proficiency is essential. read more
