My wife and I have very long years of experience with Moody street Indian restaurants and Indian food generally. In Cambridge Mass. I had what I would describe as the high class Indian food. Having lived with Indian/South Asian people in the Boston area. I have also had, on Moody St. Indian food that was the exact same as the wonderful home cooked food enjoyed by your average Indian. I would best describe Peppinos Dosa cuisine as 'slow cooked' Indian food. At all the other, 3-4, Indian restaurants on Moody St.There always seemed to be very little difference between them, in the food and flavors. All of the food we had here stood way out ahead of the many others. Prices were competitive. The server "Sai" was genuine in his desire to provide the best customer service. My wife and I stopped by for a bite after craving some Indian food: we were pleasantly surprised! The restaurant was very clean and well decorated - we loved their china. We were promptly seated and handed out menus with cups of water quickly poured. We were given time to peruse the menu decided to sample a few items. Our appetizers were delicious and flavorful - highly recommend both the fish fry and the kebab platter. Our main dishes followed after and were beautiful!! My wife and I visited Peppinos Dosa in Waltham on a Thursday more than a week ago. The food was okay, but this review is about the way management handled a serious follow-up concern afterward. I believe I left my Tom Ford sunglasses at the restaurant. They are expensive, but more importantly, they have sentimental value. I followed up multiple times by phone and also sent messages/emails asking the restaurant to check their security footage and let me know whether the sunglasses were left there or picked up by someone. Instead, I received empty promises and dismissive responses. During my last call, when I asked for the owner or someone responsible to review the footage, a person named Nitin laughed at me. That was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. What leaves such a sour taste is not just the lost item, but the lack of sincerity, follow-through, and basic respect toward a paying customer who was simply asking for help. If this is how customer concerns are handled, it makes me question the care and diligence behind the restaurant's overall operations. Train your staff to treat customers with professionalism and decency. When someone reaches out repeatedly about something important, do not dismiss them, make empty promises, or laugh during the conversation. Extremely disappointed. read more

Very delicious food and great ambiance! The restaurant was very clean and the decor and plate set ups were very thoughtful. We enjoyed our time here and the food was delicious! We got the paper dosa which was massive. I think almost 4 feet long but thin so don't be intimidated by it. Two people can tackle it for sure. We also got an apricot curry and a shrimp appetizer which were also delicious but I think the dosa might be my favorite. Parking in the area is pretty easy and I'd come back. read more

The restaurant is amazing which caters to both south indian and north indian crowd. The name has Dosa in it, however the menu has both veg and non veg items which are managed very eloquently, as there are separate sections for veg and non veg items, separate kitchen and separate utensils and cutlery. This place is located on Moody st in Waltham, in the restaurant district - if you will. There is street parking, but it can be hard to find. However, there are municipal lots near by if needed. This restaurant initially opened as purely vegetarian, but now they offer meat dishes! This is the best change and I'm sure it has opened up business to a lot more people. The people are very friendly here. Once you enter, someone runs to the door to great you, offer you a seat and water while you wait for your takeout. The place looks clean and the food is packaged well. I've had indian food from many places and I'd say this place is good. All of the meat dishes we ordered (Chicken Tikka masala, kebab platter, goat biryani) had really tender pieces of meat. The meat portions within each dish is considered pretty generous as well. The veggie pakora was the standout dish for me, but a tad on the salty side. The garlic naan did not have any garlic flavoring at all (the only disappointment for me, but the family still enjoyed it). The kebab platter was good and I'd recommend it for any meat lovers. Only via this platter can you get the goat kebab, as I didn't see an option to get just that version on the menu. If you haven't tried this place out, you should. We went here on a weekend. Luckily found parking on the street between all the snow. This restaurant is much bigger now from last year and has non veg on the menu. Upon entering they asked if we were going to order non veg or veg only and were seated accordingly. The decor is refreshing and pleasant. The service was very nice. Came here with my family last week right before Christmas. When we arrived, we were asked whether we wanted the vegetarian side or the regular side. I wasn't aware that the restaurant was no longer completely vegetarian, but I was so thankful that they do have two different sides to ensure a complete vegetarian menu. The restaurant was way bigger than when I came a year ago and the ambiance and service was just as amazing as I remembered. The menu was vast with some fun specials and clearly labeled vegan dishes, as well as which dishes could be made vegan. The dishes we got were samosas, pakoras, aloo mutter and a spicy garlic dosa. I loved everything we ordered but the spicy garlic dosa really stood out with its unique flavors and the spice from the garlic was so warming in my throat. I loved the texture of the samosas and pakoras which were perfectly crispy and well seasoned. The presentation of each dish is so gorgeous. The server was so sweet and even gave us a free bottle of wine to go! Parking can be a little bit of a challenge, but we were able to find a spot on Moody ST two blocks away! read more

The restaurant was very clean and had a nice bar setup. The buffet had an array of options to choose from. The naan was hot and fresh tasting great with the paneer tikka. I don't know what these magical people do to the food. This is the best Indian food of my LIFE. I could only order the lamb biryani because it's SO delicious. Then I could only order the house special biryani because IT is so delicious. Now I tried the lamb saag and I'm not going to the able to order anything else!!! On our way to our friend's house from TD Garden, we stopped at this place for dinner as we were craving for some Indian food. They named this place as a dosa place so we had to try their dosas. Although most of the food in their menu looked to be from the north India. We ordered masala dosa and Mysore masala dosa. It looked amazing when it came out of the kitchen. Masala dosa was perfectly crispy. Mysore masala dosa has a nice look to it too. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't as great as what we expected. We have had dosa's from various places, but this one did not live up to our expectations. Sambar was too liquidated and chutneys lacked the flavor. I was so excited to try the food here but it was nothing but super average. The service was average, nothing to write home about. They were not personable at all and the whole process felt very automated. It took forever to flag someone if we needed something. The service was what you would generally get from a small take out place and not from a proper sit down restaurant. We had the empty plates sitting on the table for what felt like forever. And mind you they didn't seem short on staff. We had different servers throughout our entire dinner-, one took our order, different staff server different dishes, someone else cleared the table and someone different brought the check. The food was very average. the medu vada was dry and hard from inside, it is supposed to be fluffy. The cauliflower 65 was tasty. The rava dosa and sambar was not good. The pav bhaji felt like masala overload. We also tried tikki chaat, the tikki was still cold from the center. Bathrooms were very clean. I went to Peppinos Dosa located on 434 Moody St in Waltham, MA. This indian restaurant features all the classic indian dishes you love but with a vegetarian twist! For drinks we got the mango lassi which is always so rich/refreshing in my opinion 8/10. For appetizers we got the soya chaap 7/10, the mango mint paneer 7/10, the chipotle paneer tikka 7/10, the crispy mushroom 8/10, the Gobi Manchurian 8/10, and the Potli Samosa 8/10. If you don't know what soya chaap is it is a popular street food in India and is made of soy beans and flour. I loved trying this for the first time! It was also nice to see the paneers in different types of sauces- I rather enjoyed the chipotle flavored one! Gobi Manchurian is essentially spicy fried cauliflower-a must get in my opinion. The crispy mushroom didn't even taste like a mushroom at all! Have no fear non mushroom fans-this was great! Finally, the potli veggie samosa had peas, potatoes and cheese. A classic indian appetizer to have before starting the main course. For the main course we got malai kofta (which is like tikka masalas cousin in my opinion) and is made of a creamy and spiced tomato based curry with kofta (spiced balls) 9/10. This was definitely the star dish of the evening and would come back here just for this curry! The other curry we got was the paneer tikka masala which was just a vegetarian version of chicken tikka masala. We also got a side of the vegetable jalfrezi which had broccoli, peppers and onions 7/10. Finally, you can't have indian food without a basket of assorted naan 8/10. They were not cheap on the garlic thank goodness this naan was excellent. Every Monday this spot does Dosa Night and you get a drink and a dosa for only $15! Its a pretty good deal! The staff could have been friendlier. My friend and I had a 7:00, p.m. reservation. It took forever for someone to take a drink order and I only asked for a Coke and my friend had water. Finally, a waiter came arrived and we placed our order, which we did not receive until 8:00 p.m. Mind you, others around us did not receive the same service. A gentleman came after us and he was immediately greeted and received his drink and food within an acceptable time period. My friend and I were the only African-Americans in the restaurant. In the past we enjoyed the vegetarian lunch buffet but they now have added meat to the buffet and the vegetarian choices were lousy. Lunch was basically stale naan, dosa, rice, and potatoes. There were a few fried doughy things and a bean dish that was swimming in a large pool of cream. We did look before we decided to eat there but the lighting at the buffet was so poor that we couldn't tell that there was just about nothing other than starches and nothing fresh. We expressed our displeasure and the management should have offered to make us a dish with spinach and paneer (or something reasonable) but they didn't. The price was $20 (not including tea). I could write pages about how great this restaurant is... but I'll synopsize my experience there. My partner and I are Indian food nuts. We've been to India 7 or 8 times. We've been to every Indian restaurant in Cambridge and Somerville. I cook almost only Indian food. I'm partial to South Indian cuisine, eg Tamil Nadu and Udupi. I had lunch with a friend here and opted for the buffet, even though buffets tend to be dried out or a bit old. BUT this buffet was stunning. The made-to-order masala dosa was just like I had in Tanjore, the gobi dish was the tastiest cauliflower I've ever had. The other dishes were amazing, and their paneer dishes were awesome. I was also surprised they don't serve Madras filter coffee! The dosa itself was good but sambar was served cold. They did replace it eventually but it still wasn't hot enough, needs to be piping hot! FYI, we have ordered the Punjabi/North Indian dishes only and haven't tried their dosas. Hot, perfectly spicy and amazing!!! Mysore masala dosa - the masala in the dosa was perfectly cooked and flavorful ! The dosa itself was so red and crispy. Sambar was good too, chutneys were not so impressive. The only bad thing was that the dosa was not hot, but that's probably coz of the poor service. Dahi Bhalla chat - mmm, lots of dahi, so I liked it. But I would have liked a bit more chat masala in it given the quantity of dahi. Service is a bit slow, and poor. So minus 1 star for that.
