    South Philly Steak
    Ibrahim M.

We ordered the South Philly Steak sub. Homemade seeded bun, Italian long hots, cheddar and provolone, garlic aioli, onions plus an order of fries. Pickup wait was about 25 minutes, which tracks since they're apparently TikTok famous now (the waitress confirmed this with a laugh). Worth planning ahead for. Got it home, opened it up. Looked great, but looks have fooled me before. Then I took a bite. Ribeye. Perfectly cooked, perfect cheese ratio, and the long hots gave it exactly the right kick. The bun alone could carry a lesser sandwich. Portion was genuinely generous too. My wife and I usually talk through a whole meal, we ate this thing in complete silence for 15 minutes. That's the review right there. Fries were the real deal as well. Long, crunchy outside, done right. They've been at this for 18 years and whoever put them in the spotlight did everyone a favor. Well deserved. Heads up: it's a small spot, so I'd recommend ordering ahead for pickup, and parking is mostly street, so give yourself a few extra minutes. Compliments to the chef. We'll be back.

    Classic Italian Cold Cut

Got the South Philly Steak and Classic Italian last night, both on the homemade seeded rolls and they were fantastic. The team is generous with all the high quality ingredients, the price is so justified. Also, kept half the South Philly Steak for leftovers and it reheated beautifully the next day in the airfryer. But beyond that, it's a small unassuming place and the owner is a great guy. He has created a small business that makes you feel really good about supporting. He's doing great things for the community AND the subs are incredible.

1/8" thick steak with lots of gristle
    Mike M.

I really want to like this place, I honestly do. Their pizza is good, and the chicken parm is solid. Unfortunately, the steak and cheese is a hard pass. I ordered the South Philly steak. They were out of long hots, which isn't a huge deal, but seems would be a major part of the flavor profile. It comes with a garlic aioli, which I'd strongly recommend skipping. It's extremely heavy on the aioli with very little garlic flavor, and the added provolone actually takes away from the overall taste rather than enhancing it. The real issue, though--the nail in the coffin--was the steak itself, which is obviously the most important part. It's advertised as being shaved fresh on site, but the trimming and consistency need serious work. I ended up throwing away more than half the sandwich. Even picking through the meat, a large portion consisted of thick, roughly 1/8-inch thick slices full of gristle (see picture) that were impossible to chew. That's not what I expect from a $19 cheesesteak. I'd expect that quality from a Market Basket sandwich, not from a place like this, and that was genuinely disappointing. As a side note, the house-baked sesame roll is a nice touch, but it really should be toasted. As served, it was overly soft and heavier than a typical sub roll. Two stars solely based on the cheesesteak. It's not a one-star review only because the pizza and chicken cutlets are still good here.

    Pepperoni Pizza

First time visiting the Square Deli. It will not be my last. We ordered a pepperoni pizza with hots and all I can say is it was the best pie north of New Haven I have ever had. Absolute perfection. The photo says it all ... the ingredients were world class, preparation was masterful, and the char was epic! After we chatted about the steak sub with some patrons I had the opportunity to try a steak and cheese ... again, just amazing! Sliced ribeye, cooper sharp, and a seeded bun ... an homage to the best in Philly. Do not miss this experience! Thank you Chris ... see you soon!

Steak & Cheese w/ peppers and onions

Tried this place today for the first time. It was packed ! We waited for steak and cheese on sesame bread for almost half an hour ( i'm not complaining-- it's a popular spot :) My husband loved it, and i ... liked it. It definitely good quality meat, good chunks of nicely cooked peppers and onions ( we asked to add it ) and lots of cheese , but the bread was a little burned and the meat was under seasoned to my taste. Yet we would definitely go back.

They offer BBQ plates, sandwiches, wraps, chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried foods (fries, okra, pickles), and sides (mac n cheese, candied yams, garlic mashed potatoes, rice, collard greens, BBQ pit beans, potato salad, grilled vegetables, & potato salad). The pricing is moderate. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16.99 plus hospitality fee and tax) served with choice of side and pickles. Since I parked very close to the food stall, I sat in my vehicle (with flashers) for 5 minutes and quickly retrieved my order. The pulled pork sandwich was a good size with cole slaw, tender sweet BBQ pulled pork on a thick soft egg bun. The pulled pork was mostly lean meat, a bit dry, but it tasted just fine. The potato salad was pretty good, which had firm gold potatoes, chopped red onions, celery, egg, mustard, mayo, and seasonings and dill pickle chips on the side. I enjoyed my food in the vehicle before heading back home. I will have to try some of their other meats and sides on the next visit to Wade BBQ.

You're most likely be sharing a table with other diners. The mussels in a spicy flavorful red sauce were cooked perfectly. They only came with 2 small pieces of grilled bread. If you like to dunk your bread and soak up all the yummy broth, ask for more bread when you order. The fries dipped in there are also really good! Lobster roll was delicious and juicy on a buttery brioche bun. So much lobster! And the fries are so crispy and salty! My friend ordered the North End Cioppino that comes in a rice spicy brodo with clams, mussels, shrimp, and 2 types of fish (I forget what they were). The broth was ok and the whole shrimp was a chore to eat. The mussel sauce would've been better. Note: one small dark bathroom at end of bar Parking is very hard to find as most are resident. It was Friday afternoon into evening so makes sense. We came back late night around 9:30pm and waited for like 5 minutes before being seated. The place is small. You're basically sharing dinner with the stranger next to you with how close you're sitting. Thankfully our strangers were cool lol. We tried a variety of oysters, cocktail shrimp, and the razor clams which we heard were amazing. All I'm gonna say is, I would have been annoyed if I waited in line for hours for the items we got. The cocktail shrimp was decent - it was a good size, juicy, and delicious. The razor clams were a miss. Rubbery and too many other things in the dish overshadowing the clams. We got two different kinds of fresh clams which my husband said were okay. I'm not a fan of fresh clams. The oysters were good, but after having been to Row 34, I can't justify standing in line for oysters in a place that doesn't have much else worth trying.

The plate options come with a main and two sides + a slice of watermelon which for me feels like a good amount of food. I typically get the pulled chicken dish which is lightly flavored. It seems like this is intentional so you can use the bbq sauces at the table to create the flavor you want. For my sides, I ordered coleslaw which was much better than I expected - cruncy slaw not drowning in mayo. The cornbread was also delicious as was the watermelon slice. I was disappointed in my side salad with lemon vinaigrette as there was too much dressing making the entire thing oily and soggy - next time I will need to ask for it on the side. The mac and cheese is also a good side option as its creamy and balanced on the cheese flavor. There's always a ton of tables available here so it's a good option when youre in Assembly and looking for a place to eat. There are also a ton of TVs showing any game thats playing, making it good for groups. While the servers are friendly, it is hard to get their attention to place orders or even grab the check. Several times I had to try to flag down my waiter or eventually ask another for something as small as a straw.
