Small shop on Broadway in Everett that's gotten some strong influencer push (read: hype) over the last six months, so curiosity led me there, but with no expectations (I generally take strong influencer push with a grain of salt). There are six tiny tables just large enough to hold a pizza box, and barely any standing room; it's mostly all about the takeout. Street parking isn't easy, but fairly achievable at $1 an hour at meters. There's a Walgreens parking lot right next door, but highly risky. Offsetting the minor logistical hassles is the convenient availability of slices, a rarity at pizza joints of this caliber. -- Pepperoni Pizza: A beautiful visual and a beautiful flavor and texture. I'll start with the crust, which strike me as a cross between Greek and New Haven: same airiness as Greek, but without the grease; thin and crisp like a New Haven, but without the heavy char. I liked that combination. Minimal droopage (I don't use Portnoy's f-word). The tomato was strong-- dark and spicy with good use of black pepper and oregano. The cheese was light in volume but very sharp. The pepperoni was somewhat thick and top-notch quality. On top of all that, fresh grated cheese for more sharpness and extra texture. The autumnal droppings of giant raw basil leaves didn't really add anything, but they didn't take anything away. Overall, great pizza. Elite, even. -- Cheesesteak: Ordered with onions on their excellent homemade sesame seed roll that's become commonplace among cheesesteak joints, but Square Deli was among the first to do it. Crusty on the outside, but with flexibility-- a great vessel. The beef is ribeye and it's shredded, kind of like a shredded beef dish at a Chinese restaurant. The pieces are flat and reasonably tender. The cheese is sharp, but it tastes and feels more like a beef sandwich with cheese, rather than that singular concoction of lusciousness that is Big Al's in Billerica. The onions added a little something but weren't as noticeable as the namesake ingredients. Good quality beef, cheese, and roll, all of it arriving piping hot, make it very satisfying. Overall, excellent, but not the elite I'd hoped. -- Chocolate Chip Cookie: A giant, soft creation with a little something extra in the dough. Maybe coffee? A solid offering. As for the hype: Square Deli came through in flying colors on the pizza, and fell a little short on the cheesesteak, but it was still a very, very good cheesesteak. There has been a lot of buzz about the Square Deli lately. I own income property just down the street and I am kicking myself for not having to come in sooner. I tried both the steak and cheese and the pizza. Both are outstanding. The steak and cheese actually is the best that I've had in Massachusetts, possibly ever, possibly better than when I make it at home. It was literally perfect. The pizza was excellent and nine out of 10. I love the crust which was crunchy and had an excellent flavor. Others were less keen on the crust because they thought it was a little bit too crunchy. It definitely was not burned except here and there which is kind of a Boston thing.. the cheese was good, it actually tasted like old school pizza cheese. The tomato sauce was not sweet at all, others thought the tomato sauce was the best part of i the Pizza, for some reason I did not. I don't know what I was looking for other than what was on that pizza because it was excellent. The service was incredible. The woman taking the orders was friendly and smiley and very much in line with the usual personalities you find in Everett or anywhere in the swamp area north of Boston before you hit the green grass of Stoneham. I thought that was remarkable because the place was jammed. I don't know how she kept a line from forming. It is definitely in old school Greater, Boston, mom and pop store. The entire front which was servicing about 20 people was about 8 x 10'. Pizza boxes were piled up on the counter handwritten scroll was all over the place explaining what was being offered. It was definitely comfortable. I will be a regular going forward, even though there is excellent Italian Brazilian in all sorts of other great options very close by. I highly recommend it. Just had them for the first time the other day and definitely one of my top spots now. The ordering and pickup process was quick and easy. Both pizza and sub were loaded with toppings justifying the price. After a 15min drive, the pizza was a bit cold but popping it in the oven for a few min brought it back to life. Was recommended this spot for some good pizza and loaded sandwiches. When I walked the staff was friendly and took my order quickly. I just got some slices of sausage and their pepperoni. $6 bucks two big slices for the prices were great and the food was too. It was after 6pm during the week but even though the sitting area was small was able to find place to eat and take box to go. It reminded me of quick grab and go pizza spots from other states. Will be back try to the rest of the menu but if you are in the area and want some pizza at a good price, check them out. read more

We ordered the South Philly Steak sub. Homemade seeded bun, Italian long hots, cheddar and provolone, garlic aioli, onions plus an order of fries. Pickup wait was about 25 minutes, which tracks since they're apparently TikTok famous now (the waitress confirmed this with a laugh). Worth planning ahead for. Got it home, opened it up. Looked great, but looks have fooled me before. Then I took a bite. Ribeye. Perfectly cooked, perfect cheese ratio, and the long hots gave it exactly the right kick. The bun alone could carry a lesser sandwich. Portion was genuinely generous too. My wife and I usually talk through a whole meal, we ate this thing in complete silence for 15 minutes. That's the review right there. Fries were the real deal as well. Long, crunchy outside, done right. They've been at this for 18 years and whoever put them in the spotlight did everyone a favor. Well deserved. Heads up: it's a small spot, so I'd recommend ordering ahead for pickup, and parking is mostly street, so give yourself a few extra minutes. Compliments to the chef. Got the South Philly Steak and Classic Italian last night, both on the homemade seeded rolls and they were fantastic. The team is generous with all the high quality ingredients, the price is so justified. Also, kept half the South Philly Steak for leftovers and it reheated beautifully the next day in the airfryer. But beyond that, it's a small unassuming place and the owner is a great guy. He has created a small business that makes you feel really good about supporting. Great local deli that has a strong customer base. It's cool to be at a place that knows everyone walking through the door but also treats us newbies nicely. Food was great! Make sure you understand portion sizes are very large. We tried the Philly Philly and the South Philly sandwiches with a side of fries. We did not need the fries, but they were well cooked fries. Overall fantastic and the staff was very friendly and also gave us additional ideas for restaurants to visit on our trip. We wanted to go back on a Monday but they were closed. Great pizza for classic italian pizza lovers with tangy sauce, hand-tossed chewy dough, and specks of basil. However it may not be the pick for someone who just wants the basic American tasting kind, and not really a dine in kind of place. I also got a ceaser salad and was surprised to see freshly shredded mozzarella on top, something I've never seen before in a boxed salad like that. Overall very nice, wonderfully made. I've gotten food from here in the past and thought it was fine and nothing to write home about. However, with the surge of popularity, I wanted to try it again. Everyone on social media is raving about it, so I decided to give them another shot. I've noticed that some bad reviews are related to service but still have positives about the food. For me, service was great and the food was even better. The first time I tried to order, I had everything set up in my cart and by the time I was ready, I was no longer able to submit my order, so I assumed it was too close to closing and I'd missed the window. Tried calling a few times and didn't get an answer, so I gave up. All good, that's on me. So when I tried again for a second time a week later, I made sure I ordered nice and early to ensure there were no issues. I was quoted 30 mins for a pizza and two subs. The shop had a few small tables to stop and eat, but it's clearly mostly take-out. The person taking orders at the front was efficient, sweet, and friendly. -Pizza Pasquale: This was delicious and might be the best pizza in Boston. I am in NY almost every month and while the pizza styles are different, I personally thought this was superior. The pizza had plenty of pepperoni and mushrooms with a fantastic crust and dough. Some doughs are bland, but this one was perfect and had the amazing balance of crunchy and soft. There was a short line, and the person at the front of the line was taking forever, so my pizza had been sitting in the warmer for at least a few minutes, and then it took me 10-15 minutes to get home, but the pizza was still incredibly tasty. I can only imagine the texture and taste if the pizza was eaten right away. My only complaint is that there were whole basil leaves on the pizza so getting basil in every bite wasn't totally possible. Having the leaves torn up would've been nice since the basil really adds a great flavor to the pizza, but all in all, I'm looking forward to more pizzas from this place. -Paisano Sandwich: This was also very tasty. The seeded roll was very good, the chicken cutlets were crispy, well seasoned and plentiful, and the sandwich was also very balanced. There wasn't a ton of prosciutto though, the tomatoes were chopped, so they were kind of lost in the sandwich, and I didn't taste much balsamic, but even so, it was still a good sandwich. -Steak and Cheese: Also fantastic. Also selected the seeded roll. The sandwich had a good amount of steak which was very well covered in melty, gooey cheese. It was so so good and the steak seemed like good quality to me. I really want to like this place, I honestly do. Their pizza is good, and the chicken parm is solid. Unfortunately, the steak and cheese is a hard pass. I ordered the South Philly steak. They were out of long hots, which isn't a huge deal, but seems would be a major part of the flavor profile. It comes with a garlic aioli, which I'd strongly recommend skipping. It's extremely heavy on the aioli with very little garlic flavor, and the added provolone actually takes away from the overall taste rather than enhancing it. The real issue, though--the nail in the coffin--was the steak itself, which is obviously the most important part. It's advertised as being shaved fresh on site, but the trimming and consistency need serious work. I ended up throwing away more than half the sandwich. Even picking through the meat, a large portion consisted of thick, roughly 1/8-inch thick slices full of gristle (see picture) that were impossible to chew. That's not what I expect from a $19 cheesesteak. I'd expect that quality from a Market Basket sandwich, not from a place like this, and that was genuinely disappointing. As a side note, the house-baked sesame roll is a nice touch, but it really should be toasted. As served, it was overly soft and heavier than a typical sub roll. Two stars solely based on the cheesesteak. It's not a one-star review only because the pizza and chicken cutlets are still good here. read more

First time visiting the Square Deli. It will not be my last. We ordered a pepperoni pizza with hots and all I can say is it was the best pie north of New Haven I have ever had. Absolute perfection. The photo says it all ... the ingredients were world class, preparation was masterful, and the char was epic! Ai states they are closed and only do take out orders, however, they are open till 8pm. We walked in at 2:30, just beating the lunch rush! We chatted with the wonderful lady at the register who filled us in on the specialties of the square deli. They are known for their steak sandwiches, the seeded roll, and the pizza. Steak bomb on a seeded roll was worth all of the hype! The steak had so much flavor and the cheese drives it home. Just the right amount of steak, great texture, it's like taking a bite of heaven. We heard locals ordering with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles so those options are endless here. Pasquale pizza so fresh with those cupped pepperoni, sour dough crust, and roasted garlic. The perfection of char right out of the oven and the fresh basil gives it a refreshing finish. It came out piping hot and had that New York style sag in the middle. It's one of those slices you need to fold when it's hot. The sauce was plentiful as it left a smile on your lips at the end of each bite. Italian on a seeded roll was very good, quality meats and chopped pickles, tomatoes, onions, lettuce and cherry peppers with oil and vinegar. It was tough to keep all of it with the meat as you bit into it, but it was pretty easy to scoop it back up with the sandwich. As we were enjoying our sandwiches the owner was there to make sure everything was good and engaged in conversation with us and other patrons about how he does things and we discussed other worthy restaurants in the area. So...I saw recently an instagram review of the establishment touting their food. Upon checking it out and trying their Cheesesteak sandwich-I am convinced it was the best cheesesteak I've had in my 50 years. My order: Cheesesteak with long hots, grilled onions, seeded bun, garlic mayo. It's a tiny place up front, vast majority of their orders leave the shop to be eaten off site, but service was quick and efficient, though the sheer volume of orders had introduced a small delay in getting the sandwich-the wait was worth it. I ate my sandwich in the little "park" in front of the library across the street. I ordered the steak and cheese sub. It was on the board as a special. I was taking it to go. Bad move. Right from the first bite it was a huge sliced hunk of fat covered in cheese. Unfortunately it was the same all the way through. $14 down the tubes. I don't know what happened because everything I had here to this point, had been of the highest quality. The beef was incredibly juicy and packed with flavor, the cheese was perfectly creamy and melted, and the sweet grilled onions brought it all together. I've ordered their cheese pizza ("Our Cheese" in the online menu) for pickup on several occasions, and it always hits the spot. The tomato and basil combo is fantastically done in particular. I can't even wait until I'm home to eat - I usually wolf down a slice right then and there once I get into the car. The shop itself is also easy to get in and out of for pickups (they've got an insulated rack near the door itself), and it feels like your classic neighborhood pizza spot atmosphere. Oh my God I saw it on TikTok. It looks so amazing. I had to try it. I go in I order in Italian with American cheese everything on it seasoning and red wine vinegar I get charged $21. I almost had a heart attack. I said oh no I just ordered one sub they like yeah that's for one sub a cheese pizza is like $23 help by this point I had already said you know OK I'm standing there like baffled that I paid $21 for this up so it must be huge. I get the sub average size sub I get home. I open it up. I would have so disgusted with anything had zero taste. They never put no red wine vinegar the pickles that they use remind me of like bread and butter pickles do yourself a favor if you want a real Italian sub, don't go to that place because you will not be impressed I wanted to wrap it back up drive all the way back and tell them give me my $21 back and go to the north end or Eastboston Meridian Market and get a real Italian sub. I said this must be a boogie join or something because there ain't no way of serving this food that they're making it there. I will say one thing there was a woman at the register. She was so sweet and I did say to her are you kidding me $21 for one sub and she just eyes open wide and was like yeah but it's really big really big. Are you kidding me? It's an average size sub. Not sure what is up with this place, have heard good things but just not happening for me. First time there in November was 12:30 on a Wed. ordered a cheese pizza and chicken parm sub, lady behind the counter said 25-30 minutes, ok half hour comes and not ready, lady tells me 10 minutes, ok..... 10 minutes comes and no food still, meanwhile have to get back to working at 45 minutes ask where is my order, tells me the chicken parm sub is ready and has been sitting in the warming oven, still no pizza Why she did not tell me the sub was ready is beyond me, I could have eaten it I cancel the pizza as I have to go, eat the sub while driving but it has been sitting in the warming oven for a bit and is a little soggy. it was ok 2nd time stop there on a Tuesday afternoon this month they are closed, 3rd time stopped in for a steak and cheese this month and they are out of steak Figured I would give them another chance, things happen. not sure what is going on here, all these great reviews and my experience has not been good.
