    Pepperoni Pizza

First time visiting the Square Deli. It will not be my last. We ordered a pepperoni pizza with hots and all I can say is it was the best pie north of New Haven I have ever had. Absolute perfection. The photo says it all ... the ingredients were world class, preparation was masterful, and the char was epic! After we chatted about the steak sub with some patrons I had the opportunity to try a steak and cheese ... again, just amazing! Sliced ribeye, cooper sharp, and a seeded bun ... an homage to the best in Philly. Do not miss this experience! Thank you Chris ... see you soon!

Got the South Philly Steak and Classic Italian last night, both on the homemade seeded rolls and they were fantastic. The team is generous with all the high quality ingredients, the price is so justified. Also, kept half the South Philly Steak for leftovers and it reheated beautifully the next day in the airfryer. But beyond that, it's a small unassuming place and the owner is a great guy. He has created a small business that makes you feel really good about supporting. He's doing great things for the community AND the subs are incredible.

Tried this place today for the first time. It was packed ! We waited for steak and cheese on sesame bread for almost half an hour ( i'm not complaining-- it's a popular spot :) My husband loved it, and i ... liked it. It definitely good quality meat, good chunks of nicely cooked peppers and onions ( we asked to add it ) and lots of cheese , but the bread was a little burned and the meat was under seasoned to my taste. Yet we would definitely go back.

Cheese pizza (labeled "Our Cheese" in the online menu).

Wow. Just wow. After getting pies from here over the years, I've gotta say, THIS is the best place for a pizza in the Boston area in my book. I've ordered their cheese pizza ("Our Cheese" in the online menu) for pickup on several occasions, and it always hits the spot. The tomato and basil combo is fantastically done in particular. I can't even wait until I'm home to eat - I usually wolf down a slice right then and there once I get into the car. The shop itself is also easy to get in and out of for pickups (they've got an insulated rack near the door itself), and it feels like your classic neighborhood pizza spot atmosphere. So happy we've got Square Deli around. I've been getting pizza in the Boston area for over 25 years, and this is for sure the spot!

It's a regular average size sub actually I think Meridian Market Lodge subs are bigger than that

Oh my God I saw it on TikTok. It looks so amazing. I had to try it. I go in I order in Italian with American cheese everything on it seasoning and red wine vinegar I get charged $21. I almost had a heart attack. I said oh no I just ordered one sub they like yeah that's for one sub a cheese pizza is like $23 help by this point I had already said you know OK I'm standing there like baffled that I paid $21 for this up so it must be huge. I get the sub average size sub I get home. I open it up. I would have so disgusted with anything had zero taste. They never put no red wine vinegar the pickles that they use remind me of like bread and butter pickles do yourself a favor if you want a real Italian sub, don't go to that place because you will not be impressed I wanted to wrap it back up drive all the way back and tell them give me my $21 back and go to the north end or Eastboston Meridian Market and get a real Italian sub. I said this must be a boogie join or something because there ain't no way of serving this food that they're making it there. I will say one thing there was a woman at the register. She was so sweet and I did say to her are you kidding me $21 for one sub and she just eyes open wide and was like yeah but it's really big really big. Are you kidding me? It's an average size sub. The only thing I will say I was impressed about was the bread everything else never ever will I go there again ever don't waste your money people

Italian Sub: $20 for a foot long, the meat was so plentiful it's almost overflowing, enough for two meals. The prisciutto was tender and juicy; the salami was firm and savory with a strong smokiness. Both are thinly sliced, so despite the thick stack, it was relatively easy for a bite. The provolone cheese was also generously portioned, with a robust yet not spicy flavor and a subtle nutty aroma, perfectly complementing the two meats. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar were particularly outstanding: mellow, tangy, and with a fruity aroma of grapes, key to the complex flavor profile. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were all fresh, especially the onions were refreshing and a little zingy, perfect for removing the greasiness. Unfortunately, I was worried about not being able to roll it back up properly and making it inconvenient to carry (which it actually happened), so I took it away and ate it at the office. After about 40 minutes, the bread had become somewhat dry and hard.

We almost felt that we were inconveniencing the workers and the wait time is absurd for in person orders. But I have to give credit when it's due, this was by far one of my favorite sandwiches although they are pricey, you can easily feed a party of four with a nice bag of chips on the side. We were blessed with being able to try the table sandwich. The focaccia was fresh along with the mozzarella and arugula. Since we made an online order which quoted us 45 minutes, our sandwich was ready in 20 so unfortunately, the chicken cutlet was not as fresh as we would've liked. Sidenote, the first day we attempted to order in person they quoted us an hour, so we decided to place an order of the following day. Highly recommend placing the order and staying local to be safe. Despite all the sandwiches, well worth the weight, just don't have high expectations for service We love the ambience of a little Italian market, and it was very well kept

This is the spot that I will take people to for breakfast when they visit...because you can't not get Sunny girl. I love the Lox sandwich, but pro tip: add in a fried egg. It goes sooooo well. Everything else is also good, especially the torta one, but the lox one is so unique. The citrus salad on it...just amazing. The store itself is a small shop and in the summers has outdoor seating. I've eaten in the outside area a few times, but I usually pick it up and take it back to my apartment. I think in a pinch you could eat outside, but inside is honestly way too tight because it does tend to get crowded. That brings me to my next point, I strongly recommend ordering online. While it's nice being able to order there and ask questions, you should be prepared to wait in a long line if you go in the weekend. They have a couple of tables out front where you can sit with your pup or if those are filled, just chill on the wall of the flower garden. But I'm actually writing about the company's website and phone recording. Once, on a prior holiday, and today due to a winter storm, I wasn't sure if the restaurant was open. In both cases (where the restaurant turned out to be closed), the website (appropriately) didn't allow online orders, and (more importantly) THE OUTGOING PHONE RECORDING WAS UPDATED WITH CURRENT INFORMATION. In an era where businesses barely have phone numbers to call, or employees who answer with something other than 'hello', is rare (and by the way, this is the fault of management if they don't properly train their staff). It was the gold standard for a real sandwich in the city. Sadly, the magic has faded. Between the soaring prices and the shrinking portions, the value just isn't there anymore. You can taste the "corner-cutting"--the flavors aren't as bold as they used to be, and the sandwiches feel noticeably smaller even though the cost has increased exponentially - I mean $30 for a sammy?! It should have gold in it! Even then, I'd keep coming once in awhile if the service was worth it. but honestly - the staff seems burnt out even bright early in the morning. It's hard to justify the premium price for a shadow of what this place used to be.

We ordered the oysters (they've got a variety so you can choose), clam chowder, lobster roll, cioppino, and johnnycake. Oysters were fine, but the clam chowder was absolutely dismal. Not sure what happened, especially since it's so highly rated, but it was extremely watery and almost completely unseasoned. It could've definitely used salt at the very least. If I didn't know it was from Neptune, I'd have given it a 2/10. To my relief, the lobster roll was the total opposite. Succulent, juicy, heavenly. It was like being in Maine. The cioppino was also very good. The Johnnycake was an interesting but fun way to end the meal. It's a sweet pancake-like cornmeal covered in a syrupy glaze and topped with smoked bluefish paste, crème fraiche and caviar. I've never had anything like it. Nothing was super overpriced, but I personally prefer next door (Paulini's), which is much cheaper and while it isn't as good, it also doesn't require waiting in an hour in line.
