Carmella's garbage can sign - A handwritten sign taped to a barrel at Carmella's Market in Boston, warning not to put household trash in the barrel and explaining the consequences.

Lovely people, great food, easy on the pocketbook. What's not to like? Guy behind the counter nicely directed me to a local bakery when I asked for sfogliatelle & he said he didn't have any. Two of us shared a large Italian sub without onions for lunch (which we were told was their best seller.) Sandwich was great and huge! Only downside for us was limited 2hour street parking, but we did find a spot. No indoor seating but there are three tables outside & we ate at one of them. Not exactly a scenic locale but the weather was gorgeous. BTW - my spouse loved the sign on the garbage can so much he took a photo of it.

Vegetarian sub loaded with veggies, olives and cheese - A vegetarian sub sandwich filled with chopped vegetables, black olives, and cheese, served on a bread roll.

A true find in the Jeffries Point neighborhood, Carmella's has some of the biggest and best authentic Italian deli sandwiches in Boston. Their imported meats and cheeses are the real deal and you can great deals for buying in bulk. My partner regularly gets a caprese sub with bacon (on a recommendation from the friendly sandwich-maker), and I'm a big fan of any sandwich with their asiago cheese. The storefront is small but there is a table with a few seats for the lunch crowd, also a table outside when weather permits. It's also packed with lots of other Italian specialties that make for great gifts around the holidays (the Ferrara Torrone nougats are our family's favorites). Parking is very limited, but they are less than a 10 minute walk from Maverick square and 1 block away from two stops on the 120 bus route.

The Big Babino Sandwich - Two submarine sandwiches with shredded cheese, meats, and vegetables are placed on a paper-lined surface, with a container of shredded cheese nearby.

Great Sandwich Great Service You gotta try this spot Bringing some home to Cali on the plane Very nice and helpful service

The sandwich and local neighborhood feel was amazing. Had just landed in Logan and wanted a sandwich from a local establishment and they did not disappoint.

It harkens to a bygone era of Italian grocers with such authenticity, today it conveys an almost suspiciously genuine quality. It's as though I'm on the set of a movie as local shoppers briskly enter the shop & point to which hanging salamis and hand-shaped pastas they want to take home. Due to a condition (living in Tennessee), I'm only able to have the chicken Parmesan sandwich here about once a year. It's a sandwich I reminisce about with my family and work into conversations with friends and strangers alike. The bread is fresh and chewy, the sauce bright and acidic, and the chicken lightly breaded, perfectly fried, and tender. You can taste each ingredient in every bite. Every element is perfectly executed in its own right, yet somehow made even better in harmony. Recently while devouring my third of the massive sandwich, a little chicken cutlet tumbled to the ground. I'm talking: the GROUND. Outside. Pavement. When no one was looking, I slyly dipped down, picked it up, and ate it. I'm not necessarily proud of this action, but I'm also not ashamed. If you didn't believe the 5 Second Rule before Bricco, let the chicken Parmesan sandwich convert you. Taste and see!

The bakery is cash only and sells a variety of breads: baguettes, ciabatta, sourdough, & olive bread. In addition to the sfogliatelle, they sell muffins, croissants, and focaccia and muffins. The sfogliatelle was pretty good, the pastry was crispy and flaky and the lemon ricotta filling was very rich and creamy. I would've loved to have a couple loaves of the bread, but there was no way I was going to be able to bring it home as I was already maxed out with my carry ons!

The inside is pretty small so make sure you get a reservation ahead of time. In the warmer months you can sit outside but we sat at the bar since it was too cold outside and the regular seating was all booked up. The bar seating is tight so beware if you have a big jacket or bag with you! We ordered the celery Cesar, cavatelli, and margarita pizza. The celery Cesar was interesting. It's literally thin pieces of celery tossed in Cesar dressing. It immediately reminded me of the small side you get when you order buffalo wings -- not exactly in a good way. The cavatelli was delicious and perfect to split. My friend and I split the salad, pasta and pizza which was great. The portions were just right and this meant for an inexpensive dinner for each of us which you love to hear. The margherita pizza was good but nothing that'll blow you away. The slices are tinyyyy though. My friend took home the pizza leftovers (2 slices) but we almost left them on the plate because that's how small they were. All in all it was a cute spot and I'd be interested in trying other menu items!
