Only downside for us was limited 2hour street parking, but we did find a spot. No indoor seating but there are three tables outside & we ate at one of them. A true find in the Jeffries Point neighborhood, Carmella's has some of the biggest and best authentic Italian deli sandwiches in Boston. Their imported meats and cheeses are the real deal and you can great deals for buying in bulk. My partner regularly gets a caprese sub with bacon (on a recommendation from the friendly sandwich-maker), and I'm a big fan of any sandwich with their asiago cheese. The storefront is small but there is a table with a few seats for the lunch crowd, also a table outside when weather permits. It's also packed with lots of other Italian specialties that make for great gifts around the holidays (the Ferrara Torrone nougats are our family's favorites). Parking is very limited, but they are less than a 10 minute walk from Maverick square and 1 block away from two stops on the 120 bus route. read more

First time at Carmella's today after seeing a post on Facebook. My husband had a delicious chicken parm sandwich.Ordered a small. Large portion. I had an Italian. You could taste the freshness in all of the deli meats. Loved the chopped vinegar peppers too. I have enough for another meal. The staff were all very friendly and when they found out our dog was in the truck she brought him out a puppy cup. It's a little hidden for us south shore folks but we will definitely go back. Got an Italian sub today. They freshly slice the meats and really load up the sub! Probably weighed close to 3 pounds!!! I finally had the good fortune of visiting Carmella's after hearing so much about their sandwiches. I wasn't certain what to get as they all looked so good. I settled on the Jeffries Point point Special. While my the food was being prepared I was wrapped in nostalgia. The place was so old school, i just knew the food was going to be good. The owner, Nick, struck up a conversation with me and gave me the low & dirty on the place. He was a very nice guy. My sandwich came and boy was i was surprised at this monstrosity. It must have weighed about 3 lbs! Well, I proceeded on my way and when reached my destination to dig in....I could not have been more happy. It was absolutely amazing. So glad we found this place on Yelp. We're staying at a hotel nearby which is in kind of a restaurant desert, but Carmella's was awesome. The prosciutto and provolone and Italian sandwiches were both amazing. The deli meats and cheeses are sliced fresh just for your sandwich, and the bread is delicious and crusty. A large sandwiche here is HUGE -- maybe even 14" or so, and the small is half that. You can get a drink+chips combo for just $1 extra.
