Hands down, the Best BBQ in Greater Boston. Best of all, it's cheaper than a flight to Texas. Place is a garage in Union Square with no seating - it's takeout only. The guy that runs the spot is super passionate about the craft and was kind enough to chat and explain the process. Only caveat is that the brisket sells out fairly early. The sides are very good, don't sleep on them. Between this place, BT's in Sturbridge and Rusty Can in Byfield - the New England *good* Q scene is slowly improving. read more

I stopped by Wade BBQ in Somerville for takeout recently. This outdoor BBQ food stall is located on a short cul-de-sac (Sanborn Ct) off busy Washington Street with limited street parking. They serve up a variety of smoked BBQ meats, including brisket, St. Louis ribs, beef ribs, sausage, pulled pork, pork belly burnt ends, chicken, turkey, and portabella "pulled pork" a vegetarian option. They offer BBQ plates, sandwiches, wraps, chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried foods (fries, okra, pickles), and sides (mac n cheese, candied yams, garlic mashed potatoes, rice, collard greens, BBQ pit beans, potato salad, grilled vegetables, & potato salad). The pricing is moderate. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16.99 plus hospitality fee and tax) served with choice of side and pickles. Since I parked very close to the food stall, I sat in my vehicle (with flashers) for 5 minutes and quickly retrieved my order. The pulled pork sandwich was a good size with cole slaw, tender sweet BBQ pulled pork on a thick soft egg bun. The pulled pork was mostly lean meat, a bit dry, but it tasted just fine. The potato salad was pretty good, which had firm gold potatoes, chopped red onions, celery, egg, mustard, mayo, and seasonings and dill pickle chips on the side. I enjoyed my food in the vehicle before heading back home. I will have to try some of their other meats and sides on the next visit to Wade BBQ. read more

First time I tried BBQ. Was expecting more! The brisket had no flavor. It was just smokey. The bbq sauce they offer doesn't help much either... The Mac and cheese was okay. I really enjoyed Wade bbq! I've been there twice now. The meats are good. The pork ribs were fantastic and the diced chicken was also really good and juicy. My boyfriend enjoyed brisket. My smoked chicken was dry, so I wouldn't get that again, but I have gone back for the ribs. The baked beans were also pretty good. We enjoyed the meats much more than the sides, but we plan to keep going back! Give this place a try. read more

We got takeout via Doordash. After reading that the portion size was pretty large, we decided to split a "Two Meat Dinner" with the Smoked Brisket and the St. Louis Ribs. The brisket was excellent, lean, and smokey. The bbq sauce was a bit sweeter than my tastes, but very good. The ribs were also very good, perfectly cooked but not charred, and deeply flavored. For the sides, we chose the collards and sweet potatoes. Where Wade excels with their meats, they totally let us down with the sides. BBQ varies widely in the south, and we've had lots of styles of meats and sides, but the collards were WAY too vinegary and peppery, the sweet potatoes had WAY too much sugar. The dinner was supposed to come with cornbread, but instead we found two pieces of soggy wonder bread (yuck!). I suggest that you just order bulk meats and skip the dinner. read more

I've tried both the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches here, and have been very happy with both. I grew up in Memphis and have generally lowered my bar for bbq around Boston, but Wade has brought a bit of soul to the scene. It's possible better bbq exists in the area, but there's a distinct flavor profile here that is unique and you can taste his care in the food. Awesome to have around the corner. Glad to review this place, after just eating as much as I could (much smaller gut than previously, reduced appetite, but I still made a dent). In general, all of the flavors and textures were spot-on, such a pleasant, welcome surprise to have a real BBQ in Union Sq. Owner, who is also the pitmaster, was very friendly and kind. It's just a outdoor space on Sanborn Ct, which is right near The Jungle, in Somerville. The Meats: Smoked Chicken - perfectly smoked. I had the breast 1/4 it was tender, if not perfectly juicy, excellent dry rub on the skin, still 4.5-5/5 in my book St Louis Ribs - again, expertly smoked, chewy (in a good way that I strongly prefer to "fallin' off the bone), delicious, dry rubbed, sauce (very good) optional Turkey Collard Greens - as they should be, IMHO - a little sour instead of sweet, pimentos, nice bite from the greens and from a trace of hot pepper that is expertly laced into both the greens and the pot likker. Lime cole slaw - creamy, superb No dessert, but there are plenty of places in the environs to get an excellent one. Please keep it up, Wade's. To echo Kai's review, Mr. Wade is a humble yet highly, deeply skilled pitmaster and cook, and he does indeed whip up some very nice BBQ. read more

I'd heard about Wade BBQ opening near where I live in East Somerville, and we finally got to try it yesterday. I'm from North Carolina and the Eastern-style vinegar sauce is my favorite. I've lived in Boston for 35 years and developed a dislike for most "yankee barbecue" 34.5 years ago......the sauce is often tomatoes with sugar and liquid smoke. And the meat is nothing like what I consider real barbecue. Except for the old Jake and Earl's, where Chris Schlesinger produced excellent eastern North Carolina and other barbecued meats. So when I read about Wade working for years to perfect his "Boston" style barbecue, I was intrigued. I am happy to report that we loved his food. Potato salad: looks all white but has wonderfully crunchy small pieces of celery and great taste. Best of all, the potatoes themselves are not crunchy, half/raw, as I have encountered in many Boston restaurant house-made potato salads, which tend to be incredibly bland. Mac and cheese: fantastic. Fried okra: wow is this good. I love fried okra and it's hard to find Boston-area. His is perfect, and I am thrilled to get able to get fried okra so close to home. If you think you don't like okra, try this! Not at all slimy. Pulled pork: this is not eastern North Carolina style for sure. It shouldn't be....this is Boston, and Wade's Boston style sauce is complex with many layers of taste, not fake smoke, and delicious, and so is the pulled pork itself. The lime cole slaw is also delicious; not mostly mayo and the lime is such a great counterpoint to the rich meat. I'll order the slaw as a separate side next time. And there will be a next time! We were really excited for this place, but it didn't deliver. We ordered at an off time in the afternoon, but the meat was really tough, dry, and chewy. Good BBQ shouldn't require so much chewing. The pork belly burnt ends are better, but still had quite chewy skin. At this price point, the meat should be better. read more

Absolutely delicious!!!!!!! The food was amazing I had the pork belly burnt ends along with the brisket, Mac and cheese, candy yams, collard greens, and corn bread..... That plate was !!!!!! The service was great, I told Dave there that if the food was good I'd sit here and eat it in the cold .... A cool new bbq stand in Union Square, this place is great if you dont like overly salted food. Ive been there multiple times, and they use very little salt, if any. I see someone in the reviews here mentioning "lack of flavor" which I disagree with, i just taste a lack of salt, which im pretty sure is customary in authentic bbq. this was by far worse food I've had. unseasoned meat along with it being extra burnt. we ordered the lemon pepper wet wings an bbq. The amount of salt and lemon taste in those wings was terrible. To make it further down hill the chicken was giving medium raw.... The Mac and cheese don't piss me off. It's giving very much 2 out of 10...... and those ribs can very well fuck off. read more
