Tried a grilled chicken rice, pork chop vermicelli and bun no hue for takeout. The chicken rice was good and flavorful enough but I wouldn't mind if it's juicier and more tender. The grilled pork had too much lemongrass and pepper to it. It was still decent to eat but pieces were thin and a little tough, and not enough smoke from the 'grilling'. The Bun Bo Hue is really good. got the flavor and light kick to it. they give you a good amount of meat as well. I honestly came here because the other spot on Avenue U was closed. It wasn't a bad choice, food was good but I think the other spot is better. I wonder if they would consider adding Bun Rieu to the menu? read more

Been here so many times and I am sure I wrote a review before but apparently it's gone. Here to an updated review. Pretty typical pho spot similar to one you will find in Chinatown and same price. Finding a spot is quick, we are starving. We got the house tea instantly and our menu. going for our regular, the wait is about 5 minutes for our food. I was amazed. Pho is amazing. I wish they can put a little more meat and broth thou. Spring roll is freshly fried and totally worth it. This place is pretty big and good enough for a big group. Wasn't feeling well one day so I decided to order some pho for takeout. The food was picked up and when it arrived home it was still hot and fresh. I got the pho with grilled chicken and spring rolls and my fiancé ordered one of the other options I don't remember. Let me start off saying the spring rolls were amazing. The pho was nice and warm, the chicken was DELICIOUS, and the portion size was really good and filling. The broth was flavorful. I felt so much better after eating this! They never believe me when i say spicy i mean it but hey this is gringo land and I think a lot of restaurants veer on the side of caution regarding spicy. It's casual and laid back and not over priced. We love the pho in our house and the various other soups. I love the mint and basil that gets served with various dishes. i personally feel the Vietnamese dishes are better than the ones that seem Chinese.The staff and service is friendly and attentive enough. This place serves a decent bowl of pho. My parents, cousin, and I stopped in for lunch after shopping nearby. Service was fine. There were only two men serving tables and running the front area of the restaurant (all of the tables were filled). My bowl of pho (#1 on the menu) was tasty! The thin layers of meat were perfectly pink and the bowl comes with a good amount of assorted meat. The spring rolls were crunchy and full of flavor (great appetizer). My dad ordered number 33, which was a beef stew that comes with bread, but he substituted it for yellow noodles and it was delicious! Maybe I'll venture out and order something other than pho next time I step into a Vietnamese restaurant... maybe. For dessert, we ordered the rainbow ice with coconut milk. One of the last few good Vietnamese spots in Brooklyn! They've been here for so many years and I came again recently after a long time not having been here. I ordered the No 42. grilled shrimp with rice stick. I found it to be really good, veggies fresh, shrimp grilled to perfection, and the fish sauce is yummy. My hubby got the No 1. Pho Dac Biet, it seemed short on the tripe and eye round, but the beef was very generous portions. The broth was very tasty and not too salty. We got spring rolls to share which was cooked well, seems to be less meat inside and more filler, maybe taro? But they are longer than other places spring rolls so that's nice. The only complaint I had is that they kept bringing other peoples dishes to me and the waitstaff seemed confused between tables. But they were very nice and apologetic. Service quick otherwise. I would definitely come again! Parking around the area can be tough but not impossible! Plenty of meter parking. read more

absolutely delicious food - i come here at least once a week for pho, bun, a rice dish, or a banh mi. everything in the menu is homey and delicious. every time i come i love that i can order something different. prices are great as well. highly recommend! don't listen to the bad reviews - they're just bitter white people. the owners are kind, it's an asian restaurant with good food so the focus is on that and not white glove service. this is definitely my favorite place to eat in bay ridge. read more

I really enjoyed my lunch experience at Pho Hoai. Highlights were the pho, fried spring rolls, and grilled pork on rice noodles (Banh Hoi Thit Heo Nuong). The spring rolls were super crispy and served with fresh lettuce to wrap the rolls in. The pho broth was super flavorful and tasted like it was cooked for hours. The meat in the pho also tasted fresh and was quite tender. As good as the pho was, our favorite as the grilled pork on rice noodles. The pork was perfectly seasoned/marinated and worked perfectly with the rice noodle pancakes which you wrap around the pork. The Vietnamese ice coffee was also on point and very strong just how I like it. I will definitely be returning to get my Vietnamese fix. read more

Not sure why I had this place bookmarked. I need to start writing notes in them. This is standard pho for New York - nothing extraordinary and definitely wouldn't trek all the way over here just for their pho. Taste the same as the ones you get in Chinatown. It's weird they call their tendons tripe here. It's not tripe, it's tendon and please don't call it tripe tendon either. Great food! The Pho is the best in Bay Ridge and their sandwiches are amazing. The price is super reasonable and the staff is always friendly. Pickup is always pretty easy and when eating in, they have great service! The place is super super clean and their chicken specialties are soo good!!! I've been here a few times since the previous paragraph, and their curry (#27) and spicy chicken with green onion (#31) were perfection. Their Vietnamese rolls are also perfect and super crispy. Get the large portion, because these things will be eaten! This is My go to place in Bay Ridge for good quality food. It makes me so happy to have this place close by. It reminds me of a local spot I had back in my hometown, and this place is great quality food. The pho was awesome. Took some scouring of the menu to figure out what was equivalent to my go to from my favorite pho place in Connecticut - answer: #1 & #3 (the only difference is size - the #1 is bigger...I got a #3 dac biet). I've been searching for a year for a replacement for my beloved Pho Boston in West Hartford, CT since I moved (here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/pho-boston-west-hartford) and this place comes pretty damn close. Too bad I live way out in Riverdale up in the Bronx and this is way out in Bay Ridge...for comparison: I probably could have gotten in my car and driven 3/4 of the way to Pho Boston in the amount of time it took me to ride down to this place on the subway. (I had other things to do in the area, hence why I was around.) I'd love to come here more often but let's be honest...it's a haul. Pho was priced reasonably and came out hot & very quickly after I ordered, restaurant was clean...con - they seem to only have canned soda and despite the place being pretty empty the service sucked after I got my food...wouldn't have killed them to refill my water glass...and it took forever to get my check. That said, before tip, the bill for my dinner was less than $10 and my hankering for pho has been cured for now. Aside from being basically ignored after I got my bowl of pho, I can't complain about anything. Next time I go back I'll have to try the bahn mi and the spring rolls. read more

I used to go to this restaurant before pandemic and today I had huge cravings for their food. So I walked into the restaurant and ordered one ban mi and one noodles. Asked for them to be delivered at certain time. Asked a few times if they can really make it on time and they said yes. Food was 20 and I gave the person 5 dollars tip cuz everyone is going through hardship at this time. I wanted to support local business. But obviously this place doesn't appreciate it. Food wasn't delivered in time and called them back when the food will be delivered. Then the guy said sth like "delivery is busy!" etc Don't promise if you can't make it. I've frequented Pho Hoai quite a number of times and their menu is basically a replica of many other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to in the city. Not only are the items listed the same as other restaurants, but the pictures too. They serve your typical pho bowls, appetizers, vermicelli and beef/chicken/vegetarian rice dishes. My wife and I have had our fair share of pho, vermicelli, spring rolls, summer rolls and pork chop over rice dishes and everything has always been tasty, prepared right and exactly as we love it. Although the #1 Xe Lua (Combination extra big bowl) is always the most popular of dishes at a restaurant like Pho Hoai, our new favorite by far is the Bun Cha Gio (spring rolls with lettuce on rice vermicelli). Not only is vermicelli the choice of noodle, but it's served with 5 spring rolls to boot. If you're more of a rice dish person, then go with the Com Suon Nuong Lap Xuong Apla (grilled pork chop with sausage & egg over rice). The service has always been quick and cordial here. The waiters are not going to go out of their way to please you, but they'll get your order to you promptly. On top of that, I don't feel all that bad eating it even with its fried because they come with lettuce and you can wrap the roll inside it. It also comes with a sauce that makes it taste oh so good! I give the spring rolls 5 stars but the pho 3 stars. The spring rolls were some of the best I have eaten. The fried skin was very crispy. The pork inside was delicious. In addition, the meat was very hot. It was amazing that the inside was much hotter than the outside, especially since the skin of the spring rolls are a hard outside shell. In regards to the pho, I was disappointed. I ordered the xe lua: combination of extra big bowl with brisket, frank, navel, omosa tendon, and eye of round. First, the noodles were a bit flimsy. I like them thicker and more firm. Next, the meats were edible but did not taste that fresh. Finally, the broth could have been thicker and had more taste. However, the taste could have been a byproduct of substandard beef. I also did not like that the broth was lukewarm. I like the bowl very hot when it comes out, especially when I am ordering to warm up during a cold night. Next, time I will probably get the bun (vermicelli) with spring rolls instead. read more

I found this place pricey and unworthy to come back. The Banh mi were not on the menu but you can order them at the cashier, however they cost about 6-7$ for some hard and stingy fillings. I was extremely disappointed because their "all in" special Banh mi did not even consist the bbq pork. I also ordered their spring roll and beef vermicelli. Their soup is PhoNomenal. It makes miso happy :) I will stop myself right there.... O_O This is seriously the best Pho I've had in Brooklyn. I've checked out a few places in different neighborhoods and none come close to the richness and the flavor of this broth. The grilled chicken and grilled pork are cooked to perfection, flavorful and juicy. Their #1 has everything but the kitchen sink, comes in a bowl that is twice the size of your head and every piece of meat you can imagine. The thing is huge and I'd be frankly shocked if anyone could finish that thing. My husband (who is Vietnamese) and I ordered from this place recently and we were pleasantly surprised! Their broth had the wonderful spicy rich aromatic undertones of star anise, cinnamon, peppercorn and the depth that comes from roasted beef bones and charred onions. Even thinking about it makes me salivate. Oh, and the sliced beef is really good quality and they send a heaping portion (what else could you ask for?!) This is the real deal, folks. Their spring rolls are filled with herbs and they send all the right fixings when you order delivery. A must on a chilly or otherwise miserable day -- really lifts my spirits! Recently we ordered vermicelli bowls but we always test a place out first by ordering pho. The meat in the vermicelli bowl (pork) was succulent and there was lots of it. The rice noodles were cooked perfectly and the cha gio (deep fried spring rolls) were not only crispy but had all the tasty fixings. They also don't use cheap fish sauce -- folks, when you eat a lot of Vietnamese food you can just tell. My only issue is they could put more vegetables in their vermicelli bowls. I'm not someone who likes to carb load, but that's personal preference on my part. Full disclosure we haven't eaten in restaurant, but if we're in the neighborhood we will. Standard pickled daikon/carrots and a side of vinegar/fish sauce type of stuff. We did take away. I had the grilled beef with spring rolls over vermicelli. There were only three tiny pieces of rolled beef, which were kinda dry. The spring rolls didn't hold up in the 10 minute ride home, and were soggy. Overall pretty bland. This is like any other Pho spot I've been to. Great food, good service. BF pho bowl with beef. This is the only place he'll eat it. I had the pork chop over rice with shredded beef. I should have just gotten the porkchops over rice. You get more for your money. I also got the cold tea with lemonade. Its okay. I did finish it. I've gone to Pho Hoai many times and I've ordered food from there on GrubHub many times. Usually the food is decent. For my most recent order, my husband placed an order for a chicken dish but they sent over a beef dish instead. My husband DOES NOT eat beef so he called the restaurant and all they could do was give him a refund. So he was left with no dinner because our delivery address is "too far" to redeliver, which is asinine since we live like 15 mins away by car. This whole issue was their fault to begin with and they couldn't resolve it in our favor. We won't eating here again any time soon.
