This place has been around almost as long as I've been alive and it's never let me down. A lot of Vietnamese spots over the years have started shrinking portions and raising prices but I've never noticed that here. I always get the Bo Kho. It's a rich beef stew with a strong tomato base. Super beefy and super tomatoey, kind of like the tomato broth at hotpot if you know what I mean. Since the flavor is bold, a lot of places end up making it too salty but this one gets it just right. The meat is brisket with tendons running through it, which gives it great texture and that melt in your mouth feel if you're into that. They're also generous with the amount of meat they give. Came for a quick lunch after a pedicure appointment as this was nearby. Noticed some hair and dirty stuff in the spoon area after I already placed my order (see picture). I had ordered a vegetable summer roll and a pho noodle soup. By this point, I was already kinda gross out and didn't enjoy my meal as much. When I realized I haven't written an updated review for here since 2017, hubby and I decided to give their take out a try on a Friday night. Considering the distance we are from the place, we were quite surprised to see over an hour wait time for delivering one order of summer rolls and two banh mi sandwiches. Regardless, we ordered and opted to wait and see. Sadly, the experience seemed to be pretty consistent with the last time we ordered from here. The summer rolls were NOT fresh; they definitely were prepared in the morning and had been sitting around for some time. The shrimp inside weren't even whole; they were sliced so thin, they could've been sliced with a cold cut slicer. Unimpressed and pretty bland. I got the grilled pork banh mi and my husband got the steak. Honestly, the flavoring on the grilled pork was better, but it was more bread than anything. Great satisfying crunch, and the bread was definitely a day old or so. Overall, if you're looking for cheap eats, this is it. For years I have stopped into Pho Hoai and it rarely disappoints. It's a no-frills type of restaurant with excellent prices and deliciously comforting food. Their pho is made with a fortifying broth that is dense, rich and when their chili sauce is squirted in it practically melts right into the liquid. You can choose your protein (or go veggie). I go with thinly sliced ribeye that is tender and very flavorful. Combined with a firm tangle of rice noodles and the usual pho accompaniments (fresh Thai basil, sprouts, lime), this is a hearty dish that truly satisfies.
