Finally got a chance to try this pho place after several years. SW corner of Victoria and Kingsway. The reason why this one is so difficult is because they have crazy short hours. Basically lunchtime only. I have no idea how they stay in business. Parking is available on Victoria, as well as the side streets. Spots are also available on Kingsway, but watch the signs (no parking during afternoon rush hour). The inside is pretty bare bones. Almost looks like they're still moving in. Staff are a bit stretched out. Basically a mom and pop. They don't have physical or QR menus here. They basically have chicken/beef pho paired with regular/spicy soup, and ice coffee. That's it. 5 items total including the drink. This has to be the smallest menu I have seen at any local Vietnamese place (the previous record that comes to mind is 6 food items at another place on Kingsway). Buddy and I had a good laugh. Talk about keeping things simple. The chicken pho here is bone-in. Something to keep in mind. Meat was pretty juicy. Spicy soup had a bit of heat but nothing crazy. Special mention to the bowl size. The bowls here are big. Reminds me of Pho Super Bowl in Burnaby. With that said, the pho here is also a few bucks more. Ice coffee comes already made, as in they use a press. Definitely a Vietnamese local hot spot! This place is cash only and has only 2 menu items: chicken pho and beef pho (~$20 each). I opted for the chicken pho which was massive! It was large enough to share between 2 people. The chicken was a bit hard to eat given it was both white and dark meat on the bone. But the flavour of the broth was creamy and delicious! Solo-ed in for a quick lunch. This was past 145pm on a snow day. At 55% capacity. I was directed to sit facing twelve o'clock at the cashier, 1 o'clock is the mens washroom and at 9pm my elbow was touching a pile of boxes. I can only do so much to not look around and read from my phone and have ear buds in. There were a long table empty. With many tables finishing up. I made my order and then later asked if I can hop tables, which she had no issues. This is my 2nd time ordering chicken pho. I truly enjoyed it the first time (I shared tabled the first time with a solo diner). Why the low score the last time. The food served to me that day was interesting*, how does one get 3 wish bones in one bowl, 90% of the pieces of chicken looked skilfully missing the best bite. All the pieces of chicken looked like it's been swimming in a pot for a long time all banged up. When I know it's not suppose to be. I got a 3rd tier bowl of pho that day. Usually I can look past establishments that are not aesthetic, however my flashbacks of the towel that smells fungal for wipe downs. The oily spoons from the chilli pots or grimy spoons of the salt jar. Other establishments have come to neutral standard and beyond with similar layout. I don't mind restaurants like this cause they have a real focus. I requested spicy beef and my friend took the spicy chicken and we added ice coffee. For the spiciness, we requested mild and it was just perfect for me. After a few bites and spoonsful of soup, I was in my happy place. The soup was light and savoury but with hints of sweetness poking out. Our bowls were filled to the top with soup, onions, green onions and a good amount of meat and rice noodles. My only down side, the beef slices were cooked well and not rare and the rice noodles were clumpy until I used my chopsticks to loosen them. My friend really enjoyed her chicken pho (the chicken was so tender and reminded me of the Hainanese style) and lots of chicken. A side plate of beansprouts and basils also provided. The ice coffee was strong and very sweet which was ok for me but too sweet for my friend who asked for more water to dilute. The coffee was served in a plastic cup and hope one day they will be served in a glass since we are eating in and to be sustainable. This is probably the thickest Vietnamese coffee I ever had. I do think the flavor is good, however the texture was way too thick and even the ice melted it still felt a bit too thick. Basil was fresh and abundant. - 3x Beef pho ($13.00) - broth is clean tasting and light, with a slight bit of oiliness to it. My buddy slurped up his whole bowl. My favourite was the beef tendon and balls. Unfortunately, the slices overcooked in the broth. Trip #2 We dropped in on another Tuesday (around 12:45pm). - Hot tea - this time we were given hot tea (must change during the seasons) - 2x Chicken pho ($13.00) - broth is similar to the beef in that it's clean and light. Went here for a quick weekday lunch this past week in between running errands. My gf always raves about their chicken pho and I have to agree that the pho ga here is exemplary - the broth here is light and aromatic, leaning more on the savoury side of things a la northern Vietnamese style. They give you a LOT of bone-in chicken per bowl which I really appreciate, and the pieces (mostly dark meat) are tender and succulent. I also got an iced coffee for a much needed afternoon pick me up and it was delicious. They don't overdo it with the condensed milk and I appreciate that they're served in to-go cups so I can take my beverage with me when I go. Ambiance wise, Pho Duy is pretty bare bones but the service is prompt and friendly. They only take cash and it's a great place to pop in and out for a satisfying bowl of broth. I had the spicy soup which was very fragrant, my girlfriend had the regular beef soup and it was nice and light. The meats were good, not chewy at all. Tried to go here 2x and they were VERY rude it must be the timing!!! We got there at 2pm and they said they were closed. We pointed to them on their DOOR it says closing time 3pm. The menu is limited, but I'm not complaining - sometimes simple menus make up for their dishes in quality. Huge fan of the chicken pho broth! You can tell it's made with care. It's authentic and full of flavour. A bonus is that you don't get super thirsty after which is a good indication that it's not loaded with MSG. I like dipping my chicken in the salt/pepper with lime. My experience in this restaurant can be described as strange. Went on a Sunday afternoon and waited for about 20mins. Once seated, we weren't provided with a menu and were simply asked "chicken or beef?". After choosing our meat, we asked to add an order of spring roll but were told it's not available and the spring roll photo on the wall was "just a photo". My beef pho tasted good, came with very fresh beansprouts, lime and basil, but was this slightly smaller than regular sized bowl of pho worth $11 (exclude tips and tax)? Just a heads up for people with kids, there is no change table and the restaurant operator would not allow us to bring a chair into the washroom to lay the baby down and instead said it's ok to change the baby at the table, where we eat. This is one of my favourite pho places in Vancouver. It is a hole in the wall but you will not be disappointed with the pho. Number 6b is a must, their house special spicy and sour beef pho. The owner doesn't speak much English so when you arrive you need to know what to order as he doesn't usually give you a menu. Most people that come here are repeat customers. You can ask for a menu but there are only about 7 different phos that you can order. Most people usually only order the spicy & sour beef pho or their chicken pho. There are only phos, no spring rolls, no salad rolls, so don't bother asking. Their ice coffee is different from your usual Vietnamese coffee, it's more like a mocha iced coffee and very delicious. read more

Not enough reviews for this lovely family operated spot on the busy corner of Kingsway and Victoria. Don't let the understated outside fool you. This is a very clean, spacious yet cozy restaurant where once you step in you almost forget the outside world with 2 big screen tv's, one corner with a couch where their polite children quietly sit and play games or watch tv after school, and another tv in the other corner... and if their dad who is the waiter and host happens to be in the kitchen when I come to sit down, the kids greet me and I smile and say hello back, then one of the kids will get up and gently call their dad out in Vietnamese, as well as hand me a menu, immediately after the father will bring a nice hot tea. This is the spot I go to when I am nursing a hangover. Somehow, I just feel comfortable enough to bring my groggy and achy self there for a hot, full bodied flavourful broth and tea. The service is prompt and I never go long without a tea refill, in fact it seems as soon as I finish one he brings me another. The broth there is lovely and full bodied, you can tell this is a family recipe. I think more people need to step inside and experience this authentic gem. They seem to have been around for a while, and they never seem busy when I am there but that doesn't seem to hurt their business but I do think they deserve more recognition. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars (I wish I could give it 4 and a half) is I feel that the House Special, while delicious, could use more meat and morsels, the broth is what has me hooked. Oh and this place is also fully licensed, as it states on their menu. I have yet to have a drink other than of tea, there. This place has really improved since they first opened. Firstly, I'd like to address to the person below who said this place is quiet all the time and is a hole in the wall... Clearly they haven't been here during lunch times, especially on the weekends; the place is literally packed to the door and the friendly waiter and waitress can hardly keep up with the customers as they are coming in non stop. Back to the review, I believe the menu has gotten smaller since they first opened, but this is a good thing.. The Pho has gotten 10x better; the broth has so much depth for your typical Vietnamese restaurant on kingsway. I love how they give so much onion and cilantro in the soup, and they give the perfect amount of rice noodles too. The item that makes this place 5 stars is simply their Vietnamese cafe sua da which is the Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk. Holy crap the coffee is packed with a buttery richness by itself, combined with freshly cracked ice (you heard me, its like we're in Vietnam ) and the condensed milk, makes for the best drink you've ever had in your life. THIS IS A MUST GET!! The owner once told me that the neighboring businesses would order 10 at a time and it stresses him out. Poor guy, that's what you get for adding heroin to your coffee. JK.
