The pho here is served in an extremely generous sized bowl with a great amount of flavour packed into that broth. We also tend to go here quite a bit so we have gotten the chance to meet the family that operates this restaurant. They are always very welcoming and happy to see us return and seat us to the table we always end up going to. My partner and I came here during the late afternoon and luckily we found parking right outside of the restaurant. The employee who was working there (the son of the owner I believe) was super friendly with us and chatted up a nice conversation with us. My partner got their house special pho and I got the rice with grilled lemongrass chicken & minced pork patty and we both were very very happy with out dishes. The fish sauce was strong and salty, it paired well with the rice. The meats were super packed with flavour, especially the lemongrass chicken which was chef's kiss!! Been a few years since our last visit to Got Pho. There's been a change in the owners but the food is still solid. Shared a bun bo hue ($14.50) and bun mam dac biet ($15.75). BBH had a plethora of meat. Good variety (beef shank, brisket, Vietnamese ham, chicken balls) but no pork blood. Broth had depth and a nice underlying heat. First time trying bun mam (seafood with pickle anchovy). Broth was a touch sweet with a unique funk. Interesting combo of eggplant, shrimp, basa and cha shu. *Small Family Restaurant Series* Love discovering these type of Mom & Pop restaurants, this particular one has been in the neighbourhood for as long as I can remember! Greeted by a friendly lady who welcomed us with a fresh pot of hot jasmine tea! So good especially when its cold & pouring outside! My House Special Pho came pipping hot with a savoury broth, just the right balance of spices & herbs, the brisket are tender and the steak flavourful! Highlight of our meal .. The Dry Seafood Noodle is outstanding as the egg noodles are cooked to perfection and very al dente! Yes, we really love our pho. On this day, someone was hungover (and it wasn't me) so no doubt, pho is the best hangover food! We went to Got Pho. He got the Bun Bo Hue and I chose the House Special Chicken Pho. Also Spring Rolls to share. It was all delicious. I really loved my chicken pho, especially the broth! It definitely hit the spot. They're located right off West Broadway and Nanaimo. Good selection of pho, vermicelli noodle dishes and rice dishes. The prices and dish sizes were decent. I had the number 30 combo of rice vermicelli and pork patty. I wish I had the pork ribs instead. The patty looked like glorified spam meat. The veggies were fresh. The others liked their tasty dishes. I made the mistake of not asking what was their most popular dish before ordering - assorted rice combo. Next time! You'll find street parking or side street parking nearby. They gladly take credit cards for those of us who carry little or no cash. read more

Very inexpensive, very filling, and moderately tasty option for vegetarian/vegan pho. I decided to try a new Vietnamese place out for some vegan pho and found that this place offered a cheap veggie pho ($10 plus tax). I added an order of salad rolls ($7) on the side. Altogether, I was absolutely stuffed. The salad rolls were wonderfully done, containing fried tofu, avocado, cucumber and rice noodles, served with a delicious peanut sauce. Super filling and tasty. (4/5) The pho was a massive portion of vegetables (mostly broccoli, bok choy, and cabbage), tofu, and medium-thickness rice noodles. The broth is the crux of pho of course and I wasn't too enthused with it -- it sort of tasted like a simple veggie bouillon based broth, so I had to spice it up with hot sauce and whatnot to make it more interesting. Super filing and a massive portion. (3/5) Overall, decent pho and delicious salad rolls. Maybe they can improve the broth. With so many excellent vegan phos in town, I'm not sure this competes, but I definitely appreciate them catering to the vegetarian/vegan customer base. Solid Vietnamese food. read more

After tennis, I was starved and ready for a late lunch. We've driven by Got Pho a million times but decided to check them out after reading a bunch of good reviews. They're located beside Boteco Brazil. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:30pm) to a busy, loud kid filled restaurant. The one where little kiddies are running and jumping around. There's a small TV in the back. Service is friendly and our food came out fairly quick. The menu is split into appetizers, pho, seafood noodle soup, vermicelli, rice, combination ($12.95 deal), vegetarian and beverages. This might be one of the cheapest places I've seen for pho ($7.50/small or $8.25/large). - Herbs - comes with the usual basil, lime and bean sprouts. - Avocado milkshake (#67) ($4.50) - delicious. Almost overflowing, the milkshake was blended properly and balanced. Nice touch with the spoon to mix or eat from it directly (which I preferred). - Spring rolls (#3) ($5.50 for 2) - the wrapper had a light crispy bite but the filling was a tad mushy. Decent enough. - Satay (#19) ($8.95) - spicy satay peanut butter and choice of rare beef or seafood. We went with the rare beef, which came out exactly as described. Great bite and doesn't overcook in the bowl. The broth itself was somewhat of a let down; for a satay, I was expecting it to be thicker and pack a punch in spiciness. Instead, it was thin, almost watery. - Bun bo hue (#20) ($8.95) - sliced beef shank, brisket, ham & chicken. Lots of meat and variety in this dish but no pork blood. Broth had good flavour but I suspect there might have been some MSG in it. I thought I read someone saying that they didn't use it but I'm not sure if that's the case. Cheap and decent. Will have to come back to try a few more dishes. 3.5 stars. read more

The hubs and I are having our last Vancouver meals before our trip to Central America. We got there at 12:36pm. The place has 4 tables open so we were immediately seated. Atmosphere & decor: minimal, but clean. Ambient music is being played. They equipped a little space heater by the door as it is rather cold. Customer service: as expected in any Vietnamese restaurant. Kitchen service: we ordered a #31a (Grilled pork with lemongrass chicken vermicelli - $8.95) & #20 (Bun Bo Hue $8.95) at 12:30pm. The food arrived at 12:47pm. Taste & Portion: #31a is great - full of protein; chicken was cooked to have crispy skin. The pork is a bit fatty, but adds flavour. #20 is a bit disappointing - the broth is missing the authentic flavours from Hue, and it is not spicy enough. The protein portion is good - doesn't have the pork hock though. The noodles were cooked spot on. Price: very good at ~$9 for the portion. Overall: Happy with the price, quality and taste. Will one back for sure, bit not going to order BBH though. read more

My hubby is a big fans of Pho! It becomes part of my job to find a good and new pho place to try on the weekend! We have been to a lot of pho places in Vancouver and I slightly extend the area to east side now. Got Pho (Thien Kim Vietanmese) is located at Nanaimo & Broadway. It's causal and medium size of restaurant. They're very busy on weekend. My hubby had Bun Bo Hue - the pho was great and broth was tasty. We found the star at there, "Chili oil" was deliciously spicy and I believed they made in house. My grilled chicken and Vietnamese pork with rice vermicelli was great too but the spring rolls just a bit overcooked and dry.. We will be their regular customer when we're in the area. read more

This place has excellent broth! Loved down the street from here for years and finally decided to try it out. I was more than happy with the broth and the beef brisket was heavy in quantity and excellent in quality. Spring rolls were very tasty as well and doesn't seem like the run of the mill frozen types which plague some pho spots. read more

Still the best in my neighbourhood. I love their Roll Dip which are always hot and crispy. The house special pho have a good variety of meats, if you are into rare beef. Sometimes you might have to heat up the soup when you get pickup. It is not as hot if you do not eat in. We find the restaurant a little small. So we get take out a lot. The food is always ready on the time they tell you. Not like some places that give you a time and you arrive to wait ten or more minutes till your food is ready. They have a really good selection of platters. We usually get the Lemon grass chicken with pork chop. It comes with rice usually but I ask for vermicelli and no nuts(nut allergy in the family). They are very good about that. They put deep-fried onion bits on instead. Service when eating in is very fast. On the busy times you might have to wait for a table. We started eating here a long time ago after playing sports. Hot soup filled you and makes you warm all over. read more

I wanted to order the papaya salad, but I thought maybe too much for party of 2. Bun Bo Hue Yummy, the soup was very flavorful! There's fish cakes, ham, pork ball, and beef. The soup was spicy, but not overly spicy. A must order for spicy soup lovers! Chichen pho (pho ga) It was ok, not super savory (comparing to cafe xu hue or Lam Hoa Quan, which is a plus to many people. I love my savory foods. Lots of shredded chicken tho! Spring Rolls A must order at any viet restaraunt. I'm always impressed when people poke holes in spring roll container. Not often you'll come across that. Anyways, the skin was thin and there was alot of filling. I much prefer thai hang 2 or lemongrass spring rolls. Their fish sauce is on point! The flavor was spot on! Chicken Salad Rolls Love the chicken salad rolls here. It's literally a mini lemongrass chicken w vermicelli in a bite. I don't like their peanut sauce though, so I used their fish sauce instead. One thing about East Van is the sheer number of beautiful Vietnamese restaurants dotting the landscape. Parking is available on the side streets around the corner from Nanaimo. The place is run by a mom + pop (dad's the cook) who were very friendly. The interior reminded me of a 1980s restaurant, with the pale yellow walls and wooden trim. The place uses fluorescent orange chopsticks, which blinded my friend and I. Spring rolls - interestingly unique. Crunchy on the outside, but the inner side of the skin is soft. Decent fillings. Pho with beef balls and steak - some green onions on top. Nice tasty soup. Beef steak was clumped together, but that was something a bit of pulling apart couldn't fix. Deep fried chicken wings - nice thick batter. Served with honey sauce. Last but not least, this places surprisingly takes credit cards. I will be back at some point. read more

When trying a new place for pho I always have the broth soup. That's my "test" for a good restaurant. The soup was delicious!! Also the menu offered a few more goodies than other pho restaurants such as chicken wings! One of my top three favourite foods! The wings were plump, good sized wings that were fried fresh to order. My family and I will definitely come here again!! The only criticism I have is that the place could use a new paint job amongst other "fix it up" issues. If you come for the decor ... Fail ... This place is not that busy but the best thing is that there are lots of parking in the street. They have a special by ordering pho and paying $2 extra to add spring rolls on top. Not bad. The pho is quite big portion and have to say I have only paid that extra $2 once because I know I can't finish it. Is in a convenient location. The decor is very very run down like most pho places. Being Pho lovers (we've travelled over an hour for a good pho place), we thought we'd stop into this well-reviewed joint last night. Boy was that a mistake. The place looked different from some of the photos others have posted, so I wonder if it has changed owners or something, but this was simply awful. The cloth they used to wipe the table with was disgusting, so our table reeked and our phones were sticky and gross afterwards. The pork my better half got could best be described as a poorly-season slab of rubber, and I've never had so little meat in my pho in my life. We looked up the Vancouver Coastal Health reports on this place too and found no less than 4 critical infractions and 4 additional ones. We left very unimpressed and vowed not to return. I hope it was just a bad night for them and they take this experience seriously and turn things round. The reviews make me hope this was a rare occurrence - hope that holds true. read more

Service is mediocre, but the food is why I come here! The service could be better, but I'm fine with it. I believe this place is cash only if I'm not mistaken, so make sure you bring cash! The pho is the best place to get it. I honestly haven't had any pho better than this place! The noodles are cooked to perfection and the rare beef that I always get on top is always fresh. FAIR WARNING TO THOSE W/ A PEANUT ALLERGY: It is with a sad heart that I can no longer eat here due to repeated cross-contamination in their pho with peanuts. Honestly, I always expect this to happen w/ ANY pho place, when it comes to the dry vermicelli dishes, but unfortunately this place seems to have an issue w/ cross-contamination even in their pho. It makes sense, as this place does make their own peanut butter Chiu-Chow chili oil which they sell. I suppose I could let them know about my allergy, but just decided it's not worth it. The portions are huge - #37 is my favorite - gives me 2-3 meals. This was a meal at a random small retro-50's diner that no doubt has undergone a few changes in ownership, management, and wares offered. BC is certainly not lacking in pho joints at this point, and we were not guided to this one by any other forces rather than proximity to our hotel, and chance. Good eats here, we got enough for supper and leftovers the next day, b/c who would turn their nose up at a steamy warmed-up little take-out bucket of pho' for breakfast on the go? Their pho did NOT feature the flaccid, greasy, ramen-esque mess passing for noodles found at some other places, so bully to Got Pho for that. Still, with tip for nice service I spent nearly $50 here, and in retrospect, even for carry-out goodies later, how in the world do two people spend that much at a pho restaurant, where no adult beverages were involved??? The American Dollar is supremely weak nowadays and routinely is trounced even by the lowly Canadian counterpart, so that explains part of it. We came in looking for a place to get coffee and well, maybe that pissed her off as she slammed the menus on an empty table after taking our orders for drinks only. I actually wanted to order something but we just ate a huge meal and just wanted coffee and they were the only place around that we knew of. I felt kind of bad about it. But maybe next time I'm in the area, I'll order some food. Then again maybe not. She might get mad at me. Scary. On the plus side the coffee was good and the milkshakes were very good. This little unassuming Vietnamese restaurant tucked away on Nanaimo Street next to TD Canada is hands down my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver. It's definitely a no frills location but it is clean enough and the service is always friendly. I really appreciate that this restaurant doesn't use MSG (or at least very little) because I hate the thirsty after taste I usually get at Vietnamese restaurants. What I ate: Green Papaya Salad. I always order this no matter what time of year - I even order this when its negative ten degrees outside! The portion is generous and very fresh. Spring roll was greasy, but I could live with that. The chicken was raw in the middle, and included a hair, as did the salad. Was enjoying the salad until I found a hair in it. Rating only for their large house special pho with spring roll. The large pho is average, the broth is not very complex. It's bland, and only hits a few notes. The noodles were overcooked (non al-dente), and the cuts of meat is OK. Portion size is bigger than average. The Spring roll was OK. Nothing really stands out here at this restaurant, aside from the value. Large Pho and Spring roll for $9. It has great value, but short on the flavor. Service was decent, plenty of parking at the front of the restaurant. So I've been back several more times trying other dishes and they were all satisfying. I like that they have a long table by the window with bar stools so you can eat alone which I did because once I find a place I really like I can't wait for company to join me. I did try the the shredded banana leaves and it wasn't what I expected. Even the waitress looked surprised when I ordered it. I guess because I did not look like a veteran pho eater. These are served cold and had a harder texture than bean sprouts. It's flavourless so next time I'd pick the bean sprouts because it's easier to eat. My wife and I tried this spot tonight for dinner. We tried a number of dishes - pho, deep fried wontons, and then the rice with pork and lemon grass chicken with spring roll. The pho was good and probably the best thing we had. I didn't enjoy the wontons at all, and the chicken and pork were both just ok. Service was decent - food came quickly and waiter was nice.
