    Veggie satay pho (large)
    Matt B.

Pretty solid vegetarian/vegan pho options, including a satay peanut broth option that was above average. I stopped in for lunch after seeing they had a couple of vegetarian pho options (with vegetable broth), including a regular veggie pho (small: $13; large: $15), and a satay veggie pho (+$1 from the regular pho sizes). I ordered the large satay, and the soup came out in under 10 minutes. The satay broth is much lighter than many other places in Vancouver (e.g., Pho Goodness, Ivy's, Bon Cafe, Baoguette, etc.), but quite tasty, with a sprinkle of roasted peanuts on top, and amped up nicely by their homemade chili oil. Beyond that, you get a huge portion of perfectly cooked rice noodles, a bit of tofu, and lots of veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, green cabbage, onion, green bean). Not the top spot in Greater Van, but another very respectable and satisfying pho spot with vegan options, and a great option if in New West (amongst the best veggie pho in that area). Recommended.

    Lemongrass Chicken combo

Anytime I can have Vietnamese I do, it's one of my favourite cuisines. I had to run an errand in the area and spotted this restaurant in the strip mall. Decided to go for my go to, lemongrass chicken. Had takeout this time. The chicken thigh was marinated well, a little fatty and could have been trimmed better but it was well cooked, not dry. The pickled daikon and carrots were fabulous! So yummy! Spring roll was great, not crispy but that's on me since I had to drive home so couldn't have it when it was super fresh. I will come back to try the Pho next time!

Vintage house special pho and strawberry smoothie

I remember coming here a couple of times before the whole pandemic started and it was decent then. Decided to stop by for a quick lunch since had to do something in this plaza. When walked inside, an old Vietnamese auntie, I assume she's the owner, just pointed and directed us to sit at the table in the middle. Such a warm welcome, but I preferred to sit by a corner table that's empty, but she redirected me back to the middle cause she said it's reserved for another customer in an annoying tone. She could've easy tell me in a nicer way, I should've left cause I already sense things will be going south especially my experiences with these old aunties acting all OG wannabe style. Anyways, took a deep breathe and ordered the following; 1. Strawberry smoothie. If you take 1 frozen strawberry and a bucket of ice and blended it together, that's what I got for a smoothie. We all tried it and no one wanted to drink it.... 2. One small and large house special pho. The broth was okay and a generous portion of noodle but the beef and brisket were too dry and chewy. When the meat tasted powdery it was time to be kind to yourself and stomach and just stop. The first couple of times I came here, the food and service was decent. What happened? New owner? This time around, the services were pretty rude even when I was paying at the counter. The food was a joke; even when the bean sprouts and basil came, it seemed like someone jumped on top of it and flattened it. As for the pho, they looked as good as they tasted. Should've trusted my sense and left before ordering. Total failed from the start till the end. Definitely no repeat and don't recommend this place. A few better pho places within a 5 mins drive.

Large rare beef slices and beef ball pho

This place was packed on weekend lunch time, and deservedly so. There are not many pho places in this area and this hits the spot. I ordered the #80 combo for 2. You get a large beef pho of your choice (I chose #18 which is rare beef slices and beef balls), fried chicken wings, summer roll and spring roll. It was a good way to get a variety of food to try. The pho was really good, I liked the broth which was flavorful and tasty. The summer roll was fresh and the spring roll was crispy. The fried chicken drumlets were yummy when hot. The chili salt dip went very well with it. However, the fried chicken drumlets were so-so once they got cold. So eat it while hot. The pho also did not keep well as leftovers. The rice noodle got too soggy. I would definitely be back again when I am in the area.

Spring rolls, grilled pork and beef.

I highly recommend their spring rolls! Unlike most places that have rolls with thick chewy pastry and dinghy filling, Pho Chan's are wrapped in thin crispy pastry with tons of meat and vegetable inside. A must-try! The other favorite dish of mine is #28 Vermicelli Bun with Grilled Pork, Beef and Spring Rolls. It comes with pickled vegetables and a dipping sauce. The inside is bright and clean with plenty of seating and good service. There are tons of parking outside. They are also busy with takeout orders as well.

This restaurant is a great place in New Westminster for Vietnamese food. I come here in the winter for Pho and spring and summer for vermicelli bowls.

Even though it's been a sunny day today I still felt like having pho . I went to this restaurant in Burnaby, the interior is spacious and clean . The server greeted me right away and was very courteous. The menu looks great as it has lots to choose from . I ordered half of a salad roll and beef and rare beef slice soup small order . The salad roll was very fresh and crispy, the peanut sauce was a bit too salty . The soup was a bit bland not much flavour and the meat ball didn't taste that fresh . I really liked the spicy sauce. It was gingery and very flavourful . I think they can work on the soup flavour a bit more. They have kids high chair and it's good for families .

Busy on a Saturday at 2pm!

We've been back numerous times at this point and it has quickly become our favorite spot. The spring rolls are ridiculous. Would love to see a grilled pork banh mi added to the assortment.

    Spring rolls - so good!

They have an extensive menu, with many different pho varieties and noodle and rice dishes and of course subs. I ordered a veggie pho with a raw egg in it, thank god they are one of the places that let me have my raw damn egg in my pho. The portion, although I ordered the large one, was overly large! Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and they did not skimp on the amount of bean sprouts and basil they gave me. The broth was super tasty! I had checked Yelp as I normally do before going there so I knew that there was a previous review saying that the spring rolls were a must try and let me tell you they were. They were so delicious! Service was very friendly. I'll totally be back and it's a shame they didn't have places like this in the hood back when I grew up there.

    Rare beef pho!

I've eaten at Pho Chan a handful of times now and I really enjoy it. My boyfriend lives in Burnaby, so when I am at his house and have the hankering for pho, this is my go-to place. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The tables are clean and there is plenty of space. I only ever order pho, so I can't speak for the other dishes, but I really love the broth and the portions are quite large. The broth has a sweet taste to it, a little different than what I've had elsewhere. All in all, I've got nothing bad to say! Check this place out of you are in the area and craving pho!

Pho Chan is a newish (well, newish to me) Vietnamese restaurant that's located in the former Salty's Fish & Chips site in Royal Square Mall in New Westminster. They've done a bit of renos inside this spacious cafe, including painting the walls a bright lime green colour. On my first visit, I decided to try their Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Spring Roll on Vermicelli ($10.95) Bun Cha Gio, Ga Nuong Sa. This was a big bowl of soft, tender vermicelli noodles topped with fragrant lemongrass chicken, and crispy spring rolls (made with rice paper wrappers). There was an ample amount of chicken in this bowl and I was quite pleased with this dish. On a following visit, I tried their House Special Pho ($8.95 for the large serving). The Pho Dac Biet included sliced rare beef, beef balls, and plenty of tender brisket in a light broth. I like my pho a bit spicy so I added a mix of the three hot sauces that's available tableside. Feeling the need for a quick lunch in November, I dropped by again. This time, I ordered the House Special Banh Mi ($4.50). The Banh Mi Dac Biet was surprisingly served on a non-crusty bun, which I thought to be strange since the crusty bun was always a big selling point to me. Don't get me wrong, the bun was fresh, but I really missed the added texture. Inside the bun was sliced pork, Vietnamese ham, pate, cucumber, pickled carrots, radish, and mayonnaise. Overall, the banh mi would have been much better on a crusty roll but most of the other dishes I've tried were fairly solid and at a reasonable price point. This place gets a bit busy during the noon hour rush on weekdays but I've always been able to find a table.

Since then though we've heard a few people say positive things about it so...we decided it was time to give it another try. Came here as a group of 5, and it was a last minute decision as we had originally planned to eat elsewhere but that place turned out to be closed on Sundays. With no reservation on a Sunday, we were asked to wait about 10 minutes. Not too bad of a wait, compared with another Vietnamese place that we'd driven by earlier which had a lineup out the door. A couple of people in our group had fried eggs on their dishes. The eggs looked good. Soft yolks and soft yolk is what I like to see. There was a Papaya salad that we shared amongst the table. This was OK for me. Wasn't thrilled with it. I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu on Vermicelli. I love that this restaurant gives the option of having it on Vermicelli. I'd been somewhere else earlier this year which also had Lemongrass Tofu but it was only served on rice, with no option of switching to Vermicelli. The Lemongrass flavor was strong. Very flavorful. Something in the dish though was quite spicy. It seemed a lot of other dishes on the table were also quite spicy. Hubby's Bun Bo Hue was extremely spicy but he still enjoyed the dish very much. My daughter and I both ordered the Sober Sunday drink which had Lychee, Kumquat and Lemon Juice. The drink was OK. Nothing to write home about. Our daughter just ordered the Tapioca Dumplings appetizer and then took bits and pieces from other people's orders. A spring roll and a couple pieces of Lemongrass Tofu from me, some beef and noodle from her dad...etc. The dumplings looked tasty. They looked like something I'd have ordered myself if I were still a meat eater. Overall, the food here is flavorful. It was a much better experience this time than the first time we came here. Personally though, I'd prefer them to tone down the spice or even eliminate the spice altogether. I don't like having to wipe my nose all the time because of having eaten something spicy, or having my lips burn.

The thing with all the Pho 99 places is it's a hit and miss, it's like one of those kindred eggs, you never know what surprise awaits you. I could see only a minimal renovation was done but everything was clean and still looking fresh with a few tables at the front and booth seats all along the window side. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Deep fried chicken wings. The wings looked plump with a nice colour all around plus they were individually seasoned! As good as they looked, they were also tasty and juicy! Very nice! 2. House special pho (#17). The soup was very hot, good start. There were generous amount of meat and were fresh. Glad the meats and tendons were tender too! Some might not like the little oil on the broth but I enjoy a bit of natural oil from the soup, it assures me that the broth were make from scratch. This is a nice little addition to the New West area and I would say it's one of the better Pho 99 I have been to so far in terms of quality and service. The food here was quite decent with a reasonable price. They also added a few new items to the menu. The service here was quite good and friendly. I would say my go to place for a hot bowl of pho if I am in the New West area.
