    What I.

Jokim Vietnamese Family friendly / casual Across from Royal City Center Food: Excellent Service Great Price: Budget friendly Parking: back and front meters https://jokim.ca Can't say enough about this wonderful Vietnamese restaurant! Modern and classy but without the higher price tag! In fact, the prices are in-line, if not cheaper than other Vietnamese restaurants that are stuffy and poorly ventilated (My clothes don't smell after visiting). Also some menu items are quite unique. Lunch specials are cheaper than some food court foods! Great for date nights! The platter: Everything in the platter were super tasty! There are drinks specials if you order this platter. Although we didn't order but I saw the next table ordered the gigantic beer with this. Mango Shrimp Salad: Super refreshing! The slight sweetness of mango and shrimp infused with fish sauce. The sweet and salty, yet not overpowering complexity was a true delight! I'm hooked! Phos: tasty comforting beef broth with many choice for noodles. Unlike every pho place that give you one bean plate to share, each person are given in individual plates of sprouts! This to me is classy and makes customers feel valued. Pork chop rice: now it's gonna be one of the go-tos! Took my friend here for the first time. She orders pork chop rice. Every time we go to a Vietnamese restaurant and she said through her years of eating this dish this is the best that she had ever tasted! The pork chops were so juicy and just simply incredible! It's not my first time here although we were too full to order dessert, but I tried their warm coconut banana soup before. It was super delicious! Service was excellent. Very attentive staff. Didn't feel rushed.

Upscale Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of New West. Love this new-ish addition to the Vietnamese food scene in Vancouver suburbs. Its been hard to find authentic places west of Boundary road, but Jokim Kitchen hit all the boxes for me and has quickly become a favourite of mine. They've got a pretty extensive menu of classic southern Vietnamese dishes as well as some interesting, seemingly Korean-inspired fusion items. Service was extremely fast, friendly and helpful. There is music playing but its not too loud, making this a great spot for date night or a dinner meeting. The interior is a dark, contemporary style with some nice photo backdrops. Nothing too fancy, but definitely upscale compared to your typical Vietnamese dive. If you arent sure what to get, but looking to try something you wont find elsewhere nearby, try the Saigon Style Platter. This generously portioned platter contains a range of skewers and meats you might find in some of the best street food carts in Saigon. The betel leaf wrapped beef (bo la lot) is hands-down the best I've had outside of Vietnam (barring my wife's of course). We also tried the Salty Egg Tofu which was delicious. The texture falls somewhere between chewy and crispy, with a mouth-watering amount of salty egg in the sauce. You can also order by-the-skewer if you're not looking for a full meal, which would go great as a quick snack alongside one of the local beers they've got in stock or on tap.

    Vegetarian pho

Very respectable, above average but ultimately middle-of-the-road veggie pho. There are so many places in Greater Van for vegetarian/vegan pho now, so it's hard to stand out. But I decided to stop in and try their veggie pho ($13.50). The soup came out within 10 minutes, with a generous portion of veggies (loads of broccoli and carrot mostly), with plenty of deep fried tofu, with medium-width rice noodles. The broth is of course what makes or breaks a pho, and the veggie broth was quite nice -- gentle, but adequately seasoned, not too oily or salty, and amped up nicely by the chili oil. Not the most complex veggie broth by a long shot, but very respectable. Friendly staff, well-priced, good portion, and a pleasant environment (nicer than your average hole in the wall pho joint). Decent spot for veggie pho out in New West.

We went to this a few months after it opened and was pleasantly delighted by the elegant environment (complete with instagrammable angel wing background!) and excellent service. It was a great place to hang out, chill and have a wonderful conversation. Unlike many pho places, it was super clean and comfortable. The food was extremely well priced! I ordered a beef pho and my friend ordered a grilled chicken dish. Portions were huge and generous when prices were less than $15 per person! You can barely even find a burger at this price now. Love how you can customized your dish with add ons. I would definitely come again. Great addition to new west. The below are not my pics because we were too distracted eating and taking to take pics, but you get an idea of the cool ambience. Check them out!! 4.5/5 stars from me for value.

Great lunch special. The wings are really good. The soup base is flavourful. Definitely one of the best Vietnamese places in New West.

Since then though we've heard a few people say positive things about it so...we decided it was time to give it another try. Came here as a group of 5, and it was a last minute decision as we had originally planned to eat elsewhere but that place turned out to be closed on Sundays. With no reservation on a Sunday, we were asked to wait about 10 minutes. Not too bad of a wait, compared with another Vietnamese place that we'd driven by earlier which had a lineup out the door. A couple of people in our group had fried eggs on their dishes. The eggs looked good. Soft yolks and soft yolk is what I like to see. There was a Papaya salad that we shared amongst the table. This was OK for me. Wasn't thrilled with it. I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu on Vermicelli. I love that this restaurant gives the option of having it on Vermicelli. I'd been somewhere else earlier this year which also had Lemongrass Tofu but it was only served on rice, with no option of switching to Vermicelli. The Lemongrass flavor was strong. Very flavorful. Something in the dish though was quite spicy. It seemed a lot of other dishes on the table were also quite spicy. Hubby's Bun Bo Hue was extremely spicy but he still enjoyed the dish very much. My daughter and I both ordered the Sober Sunday drink which had Lychee, Kumquat and Lemon Juice. The drink was OK. Nothing to write home about. Our daughter just ordered the Tapioca Dumplings appetizer and then took bits and pieces from other people's orders. A spring roll and a couple pieces of Lemongrass Tofu from me, some beef and noodle from her dad...etc. The dumplings looked tasty. They looked like something I'd have ordered myself if I were still a meat eater. Overall, the food here is flavorful. It was a much better experience this time than the first time we came here. Personally though, I'd prefer them to tone down the spice or even eliminate the spice altogether. I don't like having to wipe my nose all the time because of having eaten something spicy, or having my lips burn.

But the prawns were overcooked the salted egg yolks taste was barely there. And there were only 6 pieces of the shrimp. We also ordered the special crab soup. This dish was just ok for me. The soup was not as flavorful as what I was expecting. Finally we also ordered the Banh Hoi Platter. This was not bad it was filling for 2 people to share. This place was a miss for me the food is not worth going back for.

Anyways, passing by and noticed a new Pho 99 took over a previous pho on the corner of 12th and 8th. The thing with all the Pho 99 places is it's a hit and miss, it's like one of those kindred eggs, you never know what surprise awaits you. I could see only a minimal renovation was done but everything was clean and still looking fresh with a few tables at the front and booth seats all along the window side. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Deep fried chicken wings. The wings looked plump with a nice colour all around plus they were individually seasoned! As good as they looked, they were also tasty and juicy! Very nice! 2. House special pho (#17). The soup was very hot, good start. There were generous amount of meat and were fresh. Glad the meats and tendons were tender too! Some might not like the little oil on the broth but I enjoy a bit of natural oil from the soup, it assures me that the broth were make from scratch. This is a nice little addition to the New West area and I would say it's one of the better Pho 99 I have been to so far in terms of quality and service. The food here was quite decent with a reasonable price. They also added a few new items to the menu. The service here was quite good and friendly. I would say my go to place for a hot bowl of pho if I am in the New West area.
