    Pork chop

If you're looking for a Pho restaurant, this is the place to come to. The atmosphere was basic - very fancy but I didn't mind that. The staff was excellent and attentive. My friend ordered the dishes because I am not familiar with them. The pork chop was tender and sweet .I loved the vegetable spring rolls. I will definitely be back

Decided to stop by here for some quick lunch on a weekend. It wasn't too busy inside so we were able to get seated and order right away. The food came out timely and service was very standard. The summer rolls we ordered as appetizers were a bit hard and not very tasty. The pho bowls itself were good and standard tasting, as well as reasonably priced. There's a card minimum so make sure to take note of that. Otherwise a quick and convenient spot to get pho in the area.

This place is a great place to curb your jonesing for pho. The place is unassuming, but when you walk in you can tell you're going to get something authentic. The summer roll was fresh and the peanut sauce wasn't too sweet. The Tai Nam Gau Gan Sach was great. The meat was delicious and the tendons were scrumptious. The soup was savory for both dishes. The vegetables were fresh and not overcooked. The staff were friendly, and there definitely were patrons who were regulars. It's nice to see a place that's supported by the local community and that can attract visitors as well.

Always loved this hid spot in Chinatown! All the pho is warmth and everything. You should even try extra noodles it's $16 for big bawl soup now sadly. But this is the best viet pho In Chinatown i would say. Spring roll was wonderful! So much fresher then others comes with fresh mints and vegs. Friendly waiters always Arigato!

** I was able to pay with credit card, so it is NOT cash only (at least for our ~$50 lunch). They DO charge a bit more if you pay with credit card than cash (~3.5%) so probably better if you do pay with cash if you can ** I was craving a banh mi so I ordered the Banh Mi Ga Nuong, which was the grilled chicken banh mi sandwich. It was very good and had a lot of flavor! It was $11.25, and I know that is slightly more expensive than other places in the area, but I was still satisfied to pay that price since it was a large serving. My boyfriend ordered the Banh Mi Hoac Com Bo Kho, which was the beef stew. He got bread (a baguette) on the side, which was great to dip/eat with the broth. He also ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee. This was $7.50, which pretty pricey... but it was good (and very strong!) Overall Pho Bang has good Vietnamese food and good service. It does get hot as there are only fans here and not AC. I'd recommend both dishes that we ordered to anyone, depending if you're in the mood for a soup or a sandwich!!

Considering that the options for Vietnamese food in Manhattan are lacking, this is solid pho for the area- it's no frills. The service was fast. I got the Pho Tai and liked it, but it certainly wasn't the best pho I've had. I've also had better Vietnamese coffee. For the price and portion, it's good.

The pho is my favorite in Manhattan! It was a perfect blend of flavors and I loved the Pho Tai! They also have pretty good summer rolls

Been awhile since I have been here. Came here on a cold winter's day so a bowl of pho was what we needed. We ordered the extra large pho bowl with extra noodles which cost us $19. Also ordered a grilled beef dish that came with vermicelli noodles and also garnishing on the side which were very yummy. Would love to try other things on the menu here. Would be a good place to try out with a large group.

Regular Pho with fresh eye of round and tendon

Pho is one of my favorite dishes, and this is my go-to spot whenever I'm in Chinatown. I usually order the Regular Pho with fresh eye of round and tendon ($13.50) and Vietnamese Spring Roll (4 rolls - $9). The broth is very flavorful, and the spring rolls are legitimate. The food never disappointed me. I would like to try the Banh Mi next time. My friend and I went during the holiday season, so it was pretty crowded, but the staff is usually very quick. The prices have increased over the years, and it's not the cleanest place as it has been around for a while, but honestly that's how you know it's old-school authentic. Haha. I have yet to find a better place in the area, so I don't see myself going anywhere else.

Been coming here since I was a teenager to get pork chop over rice, pho, and vermicelli bowls. They're fast, reliable, no frills, great prices for excellent portions. The thing about Chinatown viet places is that no single place seems to have it all when it comes to pho, the ones w the best cuts of beef tend to have average or mediocre broth, and then the ones that have excellent broth that really heals the soul tend to have average quality cuts of beef. Pho bang falls in the excellent broth camp for me- which is crucial because they're who I turn to when I'm under true weather.

Returned back to NY and made sure I got one of these delicious bowls. Cost is up to $16 for a bowl of pho. Almost twice the price of what it was 5 years ago when I first wrote this review. Good local Chinatown joint. Quality mom and pop shop. Community restaurant with Asians and non Asians alike.

    Claypot Rice
    James B.

I recently got the claypot rice. Pork Claypot Rice: Pork was nice and tender, however the rice was only ok. Alot of areas had no crisp, while other areas were burned. It wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst. Stick with their pho, it is way better.

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

I ordered "Plain Pho", which is described as just broth and noodles, no garnish or meat. After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused.
