My friends and i stumbled upon this place, the outside was cute. We entered and the place is very clean and the people there were very friendly and welcoming. We all have seafood allergy and they were very accommodating. Two of us for the vermicelli with grilled beef and pork & veggie spring roll, and one with rice and beef. These three entrees were so yummy and flavorful, and very filling. The prices were reasonable. They also offer great alcohol beverages as well, i loved the espresso martini. I would recommend coming here. I will be back again, i loved it here and can't wait to try more menu items.
Wanted to like this place but nothing really stood out. We were quickly seated as were only the third table to be occupied after we were seated. It was Friday around dinner time which we thought was strange as to why it wasn't busy... The worker quickly brought us the menus and water. We knew what we wanted to eat so we ordered right away. Two steak phos One chicken pho One pork spring rolls The Steak pho was just meh and needed more flavoring. The color of the meat looked funky but I couldn't tell if it was just the lighting or?......... I was a little worried after eating a few pieces but till this day i'm still not sick, so it was probably just the lighting. My cousin had the chicken pho and she said it was good, so yay for her. The spring rolls were my least favorite. Not sure what kind of pork they used but it was nasty. It almost had like a weird powdery texture to it.... I took two bites and nope, couldn't do it. The workers were very friendly and attentive and the inside was clean. The bathroom was also very clean. The food was a pass for me though :(
My coworkers and I ordered takeout for lunch. I got the pho with beef balls. The broth was super clean and I loved the texture of the beef balls as I am very picky because sometimes other restaurants have beef balls with those weird gelatin pieces inside. I also got the spring rolls, it came super crispy and the sauce was delicious. My coworkers all order the pho with the grill pork chops and they absolutely loved it. We will definitely order from here again and it's highly recommended. The noodles were a bit undercooked, but it was nothing that made the meal terrible..
this is a very traditional Vietnamese restaurant, with a menu not just pho and bann Mi, but more diverse options from northern, central and southern vietnam. they also serve traditional vietnamese coffee is a must try. The restaurant is very traditional, the oldest viet restaurant in NYC. the staff there speaks Vietnamese. we got seated right away during lunch time on the weekend, it was not busy at all. service is fast i had the bún bò huế which is a central Vietnam dish with spicy, salty, and savory flavors. it comes with thick and round vermicelli noodle, loaded with flavor. Make sure to try their grill pork chop, is well marinated with lemongrass and sweetness to it.
I have been here a few times and the food is generally good BUT i came here recently and o have 1 huge complaint, there was a very bad mold, mildew smell coming from the AC, i think they need to seriously need to clean the ducts and place can use a deep cleaning...I think try have potential to make this place great but the smell and cleanliness need to be addrressed...Also the squid was NOT fresh....
This was a DELICIOUS meal!!! The flavors of all of the dishes were amazing!! Even the servers were very attentive and helpful with our selections. The restaurant was very clean even the bathroom was nice and clean. The food came out very fast! I would definitely be back!
This is the oldest pho restaurant in NYC and the depth of the broth shows that! They also have bun rieu which is hard to find in the city. I will definitely be back to try it on another day when I have more time.
I came here for dessert and got flan and che ba mau. I wish the che ba mau had less ice and more red bean! The flan had brownie on the bottom layer which was interesting to me. It wasn't the best flan I've had but happy I still tried it.

Needed to branch out of my normal pho joints to try locally recommended places. Been to two of Pasteur's neighbors (Thai Son, Nha Trang) and had this left to complete the tri-pho-cta. Service was standard Chinatown service, "good enough". Small place with just a few tables. It was half full on a Sunday afternoon. We had a table for 4 - ordered the summer roll, spring roll, 3 pho dac biet, another noodle (pic) and an iced coffee. Summer roll -- smaller than other places and was not densely packed and rolled so it fell apart upon first bite. Flavor was very good though Spring rolls -- well fried and seasoned. A little sweeter than other places. Just rolls, no lettuce wraps. Coffee -- decent Pho -- broth was a little light and lacked depth but still good flavor. All meats were solid. Overall, good spot and would go in a pinch. Generally, there are better options elsewhere.
Summer rolls were nice and refreshing with the mint. Pho broth was rich but not over salty and there was an average portion of meat. There's only 1 size of pho bowl and the prices are average (roughly $15-17). Service was quick and they have multiple people working the restaurant floor. I ate and was in and out within 17 min.
Good comforting Vietnamese dishes. Wide enough selection to choose from and can accommodate for food allergies. Ordered the Bun Rieu, broth was rich and flavorful. Crab balls were light and spongy, really soaked in the broth. Had a variety of toppings -- fried tofu, shrimp, onion, the crab balls, sliced rice cakes (surprising addition). Someone recently sent me an IG reel featuring this place, so maybe they're having a moment right now. It should be noted, their tables are meant for groups, so for solo + parties of 2, expect a communal table situation. We had an older lady as our server + I think she bonded with my grandma. She brought her a cup of hot tea, unsolicited, + was teasing her personal small fork that she brought out to use instead of asking for one from the restaurant. Really expensive for House Special Fried Rice when they include tax. When you pay with cash, it comes out to $17.50 and you need to pay 3% more with credit card which is quite expensive. Even though it is $$$, the taste and quality of fried rice is superb and very tasty! I never tasted such quality before from any places. This by far is the best tasty fried rice I've ever tried. It is wok fried with shrimp, sausage, chicken, eggs, scallions, peas, and carrots. The rice is made well and not too soggy, soft or overly cooked and dried. Sausages are good too which is my favorite ingredient in the rice. The place has nice panel windows too when you arrive that makes it welcoming and nice. The menu looks cute with pictures. Ambience is nice and not too loud. There is no music playing and just people talking. Somewhat quiet and dotted along with many Vietnamese places so you know there is competition. But if you want the best fried rice, this is the place to go! read more

Pho broth done well here- better than most shops nearby. Brisket meat was a little too lean/chewy for my liking. Rice combo plate was simple and solid (although portion size is smaller). Quick and friendly service. read more

Service here was a bit slow, and the overall ambiance was very similar to nearby Vietnamese restaurants. The portions are really big and super filling. It was also very affordable but I think this place is a little more pricy than other Vietnamese restaurants in the neighborhood. Green Papaya Salad (6/10): This was good but nothing stood out about it. I think that there could've been a bit more flavor but it was solid for a papaya salad. Crispy Spring Rolls (8/10): I would definitely order this again. It was delicious and pairs really well with the lettuce as a wrap. It was super crispy and had a lot of filling. Bun Bo Hue (7/10): This was pretty good. I prefer the noodles in pho over the noodles in Bun Bo Hue. PHỞ BÒ KHO (8/10): I really liked the flavor of this one more than I liked the Bun Bo Hue. It had so much beef and the soup was really delicious. PHỞ XE LỬA (8/10): The pho was pretty solid. It had a lot of meat and tasted really clean. I would order it again. This it one of good tasting viet food spots in chinatown. It is not tourist heavy. The amount of food they serve is a lot. The price is decent for inflation. This is my first time coming here since I tend to goto other viet food spots. The place is quiet and has 1 or to servers. You wont get your food asap. The pho broth with oxtail is pretty good. It has both fat and meat on the bones. The shrimp was ok. The meat rolls was the star of the noodle dish. I would definitely come back for the rolls. read more
The grilled pork chops were tender and had a film of succulent fat on the rim. One bite and it melted in my mouth and my heart. Today I was in Chinatown and decided to have lunch here. Opened thirty years ago, Pasteur is located on Baxter Street where some other Vietnamese restaurants offer a similar cuisine. I ordered a plate of the pork chops with rice and pickles ($13). A tiny ramekin of clear orange vinegar with what resembled ginger was served first. Then came the plate with the food. The rice was ample and tiny serrated cut cucumbers, carrots and white radish came with it. I was quite stuffed after I had finished eating. Service was efficient. Even though several customers were eating one wasn't hurried out. The interior is fairly small and has a gender neutral small restroom. read more

Food: The food was incredible and it hit the spot!! This was the first meal I ate coming back from abroad, and if I could eat this meal over again to feel that warm comfort feeling for the first time again I would!! Idk if that made sense but the Pho broth was amazing as is and was soooo flavorful!! Probably the best broth I've had! The beef was also the best piece of meat I probably had in the last 5-6 months and I wish Europeans could get a taste of what real food tastes like LOL! Anyway, 10/10 recommend and this will be a place I come back to whenever I'm in NYC!! Service: The food came out promptly and HOT (my friend did ask for it extra hot though, which they delivered!!). Newly renovated Vietnamese spot in Chinatown. Their pho is pretty solid, with plenty of beef although the noodles are a little too soft for my taste. Surprising highlight of our meal was the grilled eggplant, it was roasted perfectly. Soft on the inside, steaming hot with a deliciously salty sauce and covered in peanuts and chives. Service was extremely quick, our noodles were out in 5 minutes. The restaurant area itself is quite small, just 8 tables or so, but they turn over fairly rapidly. Pho is a little pricey at around $13-15 a bowl. read more

This is my favorite pho spot in the city. It's so reliably great tasty and has such kind service. The place is super cute, the menus are designed really well. I love the Pho Ga (Chicken Pho) whenever I'm feeling cold or it's rainy. Also the spring rolls with shrimp are delicious. Next time I want to try one of their coffees or cocktails. read more
Best restaurant in Chinatown hands down. I've been coming to this gem since 2014 and their food has been consistent and delicious for those 8 years. I cannot recall another restaurant that have done that. It's a family owned/operated place and you can tell the love everyone put into their work here. Easily the best vermicelli I have ever eaten in my life. The sesame chicken is also very good, the spring rolls, the summer rolls, their peanut sauce, basically everything I've tried is simply delicious. There's nothing I haven't liked. I love that you can still have a delicious and generous meal without breaking the bank in this place. I do miss their lunch specials though, but I guess with the inflation they were not able to keep them unfortunately. But don't you worry because prices range from $12 to $20. They recently redesigned their website and menu and I can see this place staying in business for another 20+ years because it gets better and better every time I come. The service is fast but not pushy and everyone extremely friendly. If you haven't visited, this is your call. read more
This spot is great for an easy Vietnamese dinner in Chinatown. They've got a cute interior as well as outdoor patio space, and no reservations needed on a weekend night. Great for a date! I ordered the grilled pork bun ($12)--the meat was well marinated and very tasty. I would've liked more daikon radish though; they tend to slice them pretty large here. Veggies were fresh and the fish sauce was good as well. Because it was kind of a chilly night when I went, I also ordered a cup of the pho broth for $3. I love that they have this option. The broth was pretty flavorful--you could taste the star anise in it. I also really enjoyed the mint lemon crush, made with soju, mint, and lemon ($9). It was the perfect balance of sweet and sour. Staff was friendly, too. Pasteur Grill is totally going on my list of dependable Vietnamese restaurants in NYC! read more
Noms: Come here for all kinds of Vietnamese food! I loved the pho and Che ba mao dessert (3 color, like a Vietnamese shaved ice). Haven't had pho in a while so this hit the spot. "Did you write your review yet from lunch?!" Alright, alright I'm on it. . . . Rolls eyes. So I came here yesterday because the person I'm dating begrudgingly had to serve his duty to his community at court. Not surprisingly they decided to forgo selecting him as a juror. And we went on his lunch break to what seemed to be a strip of interesting businesses on Baxter Street behind the criminal law court. Which I rarely go to admittedly for work. Anyway, I digress. This isn't a bad strip of restaurants to choose from. You're bordering right on chinatown where you'll probably find some legit tasty authentic stuff to work with. I haven't had Vietnamese food in a minute. And being sick, soup sounded ideal. We were promptly serviced and ordered spring rolls, and both the medium rare beef pho. Spring rolls are cut up into small chunks with the accompanying sweet sauce, lettuce wraps, and mint. Boiling hot but really delicious. The pho which I only had half of my entree and saved the rest for the rest of the week was pretty flavorful. Added in the bean sprouts and what I think is fresh lemongrass on the side. Whatever it is it tasted great. The beef was thin but huge pieces and quite plentiful in the dish. The broth was nice. I added a little bit of hot sauce and hoisin into it for fun. The noodles nice and glassy. I can't really find anything to complain about. All fairly affordable. For like six chunks of spring roll - $10 and the pho was about $11 or 12. The only hiccup probably was service toward the ending. They were pretty busy and have only maybe two servers and getting the check and food wrapped up took a minute. But else wise, I'd totally think of coming back. read more
Friday night dinner. 3 guys. Frigid out, picked pho for something warming. We each had a different favorite for the 3 viet places lined up. Pasteur, Nha Trang, Thai Son. Pasteur friend got his choice. The fact that it was empty on a Friday night when there was a decent number of people dining in the other two should have been a big warning sign. I hadn't been to Pasteur in upwards of 10 years maybe more, so I figured ok why not. Got the bun bo hue, one friend also got the same, and the friend who said Pasteur was his spot got p14 fragrant beef stew (beef shank), shared an order of pork spring rolls and the salt and pepper squid. Ummmmmm everything was SWEET. Very odd. The broth was sweet. The calamari was not crispy and also sweet. felt like the calamari/squid was sugar coated. Even Pasteur friend admitted everything was sweeter than he expected. First time eating visit where I barely touched the broth. The spring rolls were ... glistening not crispy. If you've got a sweet tooth, this is absolutely your spot. read more

Along Baxter, you will find 3 Vietnamese restaurants huddled together - each with it's own specialty. One is great for large parties and desserts, the other Lunch. Pasteur has a more intimate environment. During off-peak hours, a great spot to just sit down for a few and chill. If you had been up and down Broadway with a fussy niece or nephew in a stroller? Worth passing by just to see if you can rest your feet for a bit! read more
