Cute little store front window sandwich shop! They say never judge a book by it cover and I was shocked by the FLAVA coming out of this small spot. One person was taking the orders and cooking the food from my knowledge. I got the Mala Wrap with a Hashbrown added and it was The wrap was packed with Chinese sausage and the hash was the perfect addition. I did try to add cheese and they couldn't which was disappointing. Overall solid spot and I would go back to try other things on their menu.

Mala Wrap and Build Your Own Egg & Cheese with hash brown

They have a few vegetarian options but I love that they have the build your own egg and cheese sandwich as I wasn't feeling their other stuff, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked my sandwich. I got the egg and cheese with a hash brown and mala and nori aioli and it was soft and moist and soooo flavorful. The hash brown was such a good addition and the cheese was gooey without being overpowering. Will definitely return and maybe I'll try one of their regular sandwiches with a hash brown substitute.

Came here for the Duck Tsangwich, but they were sold out, so we ordered the Mala Wrap instead. It tasted pretty much as described, but the aioli was too heavy for my liking. It seemed mayo-based, and the flavor came across more like a sweet honey mayo than a bold Sichuan mala. 4/10. Ordering was quick through the walk-up window, and there are benches outside for seating. It took about 20 minutes for the wrap to come out. The wait for the Duck Tsangwich was around an hour, so we skipped it this time, but we'll definitely be back to try it.

I actually walked past Sandwich Board when trying to find it because it had such an unassuming appearance. It's looks like a hole-in-the-wall. You order from the outside and there are a couple of chairs and a small table outside. I came for the Duck Tsangwich but it was already sold out at 3pm on a Monday, so I just ordered the Mala Tsangwich ($12). This is a spicy fried chicken with mala aioli, cucumber slices, tomato, pickles, and crispy shallots on a bao bun. Overall, it was good but I didn't taste mala spice and it was a little small. I think the bao itself had a smokey sweetness which I liked. I will try to come earlier next time.

Get the Mala Tsangwich, it's bursting with fresh flavors that really hit the spot for me -- nice portion of chicken (which wasn't spicy), fresh cucumber/greens, this tangy sauce that was to die for, all between two semi sweet buns -- felt really unique and satisfying to me. There's a couple tables to sit at and an unassuming window inside to place your order at, which gives it a fun little touch.

My partner and I got the padma (weekly special) and fish pan - TASTE: 4/5 - enjoyed the padma's eggplant and red onion. Couldn't taste much of the fish pan's sweet plantain or jerk mayo TEXTURE: 5/5 - the padma's breaded eggplant and crispy hash browns, melted cheese, and fresh arugula were a perfect combo PRICE: 3/5 - higher price points on the sandwich menu: $14-$18. Our total came to $37 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - satisfied us for brunch. The fish pan was noticeably much smaller than the padma SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 11am on a Monday and were the only ones there. Order came out 10min later ATMOSPHERE: 3/5 - small, colorful space w high top seating, benches outside, and no bathroom

Truly just a board on the sidewalk to help me recognize that I had made it to, well, Sandwich board. I got the Duck. The Duck inside was nice and juicy, it's served with a pineapple bun, and for me it tethered on a little too sweet, which got to be a little overwhelming . But all the individual components are insane, and definitely worth coming back and picking up some new things off their menu.

Such a cool place! Their peking duck sandwich was sooo yum, we scarfed it down even though it was big. There is an area with tables but no seating. Service was fast.

The mala breakfast wrap was are so good! There was quite a line and wait on a Saturday afternoon, but worth the wait for the wrap. My friends got their sandwiches and unfortunately we weren't big fans because the bun is sweet. But I'll def be back to try the other wraps

This was my favorite out of all the restaurants I visited in NYC this time around! I was attracted by the pineapple bun sandwich (the "Duck Tsangwich")--my gut feeling said it would be gimmicky, but I've really been craving pineapple buns these days so I wanted to give it a try anyway and I AM SO GLAD I DID! The Duck Tsangwich ended up being so freaking good that I ordered a SECOND sandwich, and THAT was so good that I ordered a DESSERT, and the DESSERT was so good that I ordered ANOTHER DESSERT (that final dessert was the only thing I didn't really like from here). It was like dominoes of pure deliciousness. The first sandwich was NOT gimmicky and actually really delicious. The Cantonese-style duck inside had that super authentic sweetness & juiciness (and of course greasiness) to it and was so tender and well cooked. And don't get me started on the pineapple bun--as soon as I bit into it I actually knew I had to ask where tf they get these pineapple buns from because it was so soft and the crumble top was delicious. My only gripe with this sandwich is that Cantonese-style duck is also very sweet, so this kind of overwhelmed the lighter flavor of the crackle top which is my favorite part of the pineapple bun. But this complaint is trivial compared to the degree of deliciousness that is this sandwich as a whole. I think I'd just be really excited if they came out with a more savory sandwich that used the pineapple bun! The second sandwich I got was the Mala Tsangwich, which also ended up being amazing. I might have even liked it better than the Duck Tsangwich but there's definitely more to write about the Duck one because it's so unique. Beautiful fry on the chicken and amazing mala sauce, and though not quite true to the Sichuanese mala flavor, was definitely reminiscent of it. This review is already a fat shill post but unfortunately I have to get started on the dessert: two boluo bao cookies used to make an ice cream sandwich. LET ME TELL YOU! BO LUO BAO COOKIES ARE A 400IQ INVENTION. ABSOLUTELY REVOLUTIONARY. I actually want to buy like 100 of these cookies and have them at my wedding but unfortunately I didn't do that. Wow. Just amazing. It has a similar texture to Chinese almond cookies (a little harder and more crumbly, so if you're a soft cookie fan you might not like it much) and perfectly captures the boluobao texture/flavor on top. Absolutely incredible. Also, the guy who runs the shop is super nice. I kept coming back to make new orders so he stored my desserts in the freezer for me so they'd be fresh to eat when I finished my sandwiches! TL;DR get one of the tsangwiches (or both like me) and the boluobao cookie ice cream sandwich. This place was a revolution for my taste buds.

It's a tiny storefront specializing in Asian fusion sandwiches. Prices are quite good - between $12-16 for a sandwich. Judging from the menu, I had high hopes and was slightly disappointed. I ordered the Mala Tsangwich, and while the presentation was superb, the flavor was lacking and bland. The sandwich barely had any mala spice and the chicken was too dry for my taste. Way too mild, and I sorta got bored of eating it halfway through. Right now, I can't recommend the Sandwich Board, but I'd love to come back and get proven wrong with another sandwich.

Absolutely amazing sandwiches. Their menu is a trip around the world and I absolutely love that about them. In the same place you can get a Malaysian breakfast roti roll and a Cuban sandwich or a Carribean coco bread packed with fish and plantains. The best part is it's all actually GOOD with flavors I've tried before but not in such a fun untraditional form. Visiting was such a pleasant surprise and I will be back without a doubt. The dining area has two large tables that can fit four to six people and then there's a couple very narrow tables against the wall that can fit maybe four people. It's not the largest space but it's good enough. There's also some outdoor seating. If you're vegetarian they can sub the meats for a hashbrown patty. Can't wait to see what else they cook up!

I came here because I really wanted to try the Duck Tsangwich but this was unfortunately a miss for me. I didn't mind the sweetness and the flavors that some others had mentioned. What bothered me was how dry the duck AND the bread were. The bread was so airy and dry (nothing like a true buoluo bao. I also felt like the lettuce and other ingredients did not look fresh at all. Overall, I think the idea is great and could be amazing but just wasn't executed well here.

Decor/actual restaurant: This particular location is very small and tight with limited in-store seating. The interior is cute, I like the blue color theme they have here. For a restaurant designed for to-go orders, I believe that there could be more waiting room and a couple less chairs. Service: Like many "fast food adjacent" restaurants, the people who work there have good customer service but I imagine deal with the worst. I know they're doing great with the situation they're in. Kudos to them. Food: this is probably my harshest critique. I ordered a pesto chicken sandwich, and it was fine. I don't believe it was worth the $16 I spent though. The chicken was kind of bland, tasted similarly to frozen grilled chicken pieces you buy from a grocery store. I do wish there was more sauce. The pesto tasted good but overall there was too much bread. I fear you would be better off making something like this at home for a comparable price. The bread was good, just too much. I don't want to base the menu on this sandwich alone, a lot of the menu options sounded delicious, but this was just the experience I had!

((4.5 stars)) Sunny…read moreand Annie's is very much a 24/7 neighborhood gem of a corner store and deli. it's packed with packaged foods--candy, chips, cookies, ice cream, soft drinks, beer, and a lot more plus the deli counter serves ups an endless list of creative sandwiches. i am not going to say this place is cramped but it kinda is. for example, if people stand in the wrong areas of the store, it will cause a complete standstill of a traffic jam in the store. my advice: order from the deli (and stand somewhere people aren't trying to get to) or grab whatever you need, pay, and leave. this place is not a place to linger. keep it moving. anyway, the obvious draw of Sunny & Annie's is the endless list of sandwiches that are handwritten cards that are stuck outside glass of the deli counter. there is literally something for the pickiest eaters--from hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, wraps, and more. some sandwiches are named celebrities, politicians, etc. i have ordered a bunch of different sandwiches and have not made it through much of the menu. you can also create your own Frankenstein monster of a sandwich. while the sandwiches are a big part of the draw, the insane amount of snack foods crammed into the store is quite remarkable from the large stand of Doritos, Takis, Cheetos and other popular branded snack foods in the front to the separate stand of Wise snacks to an entire back corner of the store filled with all kinds of chips, popcorn, etc. imo, Sunny's has the freshest-tasting Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn. i know an insane take consider it's a packaged popcorn snack from a megacorp (PepsiCo), but i'll die on this hill. maybe it's cause Sunny's sells a lot of Smartfood popcorn so it gets refreshed often, maybe they have a secret in/pipelinbe from the factory, or it's just magic/alchemy. i don't know, but the Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn never tastes stale-ish like it does at grocery stores, the bags never feel deflated because they have been on shelf long, and the popcorn never has that soft mouthy feel but still has the crunch to it. maybe it's just me, but Sunny's serves a great list of sandwiches...AND the freshest Smartfood Cheddar Popcorn. beyond the snacks, the service from the deli to cashier is upbeat and friendly. in all seriousness, Sunny and Annie's is an Avenue B institution at this point and remains a charming family-owned store--and is NOT a sterile modern clone of a neighborhood business.

As I took it out the store, it was like I was holding a bomb in my hands. It's literally massive! Unfortunately, I didn't have cash, so I did pay the up charge... But the $20+ is worth it since it is so big & can feed you for 2-3 meals! The Bomb sandwich is made with a hero bread that is like the length of my forearm! It has all the cold cuts you can possible think of (with several pieces of each one). Then comes the veggies like lettuce/tomato. The thing that is unique here is that they add peppers. The peppers add a spicy/sweet/tarty kick to the whole sandwich & it balances the taste really well. The sandwich can definitely be cut into 4 pieces & very well feed 4 different people and they would feel satisfied. It's also very tall so you really need to open your mouth wide to bite into the sandwich. Overall, the food is great! It does live up to the hype & it's a try-at-least-once kinda sandwich. Despite all the ingredients they put in there, the workers literally put everything together in minutes & really wrap it up nicely like it's an art form. Why should I have to pay extra to get the sandwich I originally ordered because of their mistake? They then offered to make the sandwich spicy with some peppers, but it still wasn't spicy. As for the Pisillo itself, it was decent, but I've had better Italian sandwiches elsewhere. The portions are undeniably huge, but you're also paying for that size, so the value isn't quite as impressive as it might seem. The service was disappointing. While the staff did apologize, the proposed solution to their own order mix-up was frustrating and didn't leave a great impression. The atmosphere is casual and no-frills, typical of a sandwich spot. Overall, the sandwiches are massive, but size alone doesn't make a great sandwich. Given the underwhelming food and how the order mix-up was handled, I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
