two sub sandwiches on a plate
    Matthew S.

Feh! Another Pisillo wannabe but you ain't gonna be Pisillo because you are NOT Pisillo! What sets Pisillo apart from all the other Italian sandwich shops in New York City is their authenticity. Short of Parisi, no other comparable sandwich shop has their meats imported from the old country, their breads from the old country, their cheeses from the old country. Here, everything is from New York bakeries, butcher shops, and produce markets. While not a bad thing, it loses me because real deal Italian products from Italy taste much better, even if it does cost more. The sandwich comes with a lot of meat, and the meat is good. Unfortunately, the bread is on the softer side. There is little to crunchiness, little to no resistance. It felt like it was too over proofed. As I mentioned in a previous Yelp review, the bread is what binds a sandwich together. A tasty bread brings it all together nicely, even if the meat is just okay. A lousy bread undoes it all, even if the meat is tasty. Bread on these sandwiches need to work, or you just call it an antipasto salad and call it a day. With that, I will stick with Pisillo for that authentic Italian vibe. This is not a bad sandwich, but not the best for value.

Wow, this little hole in the wall hits the mark. Just walking distance from the court house making it the perfect spot for downtown lawyers, jurors, and others. Let's dive in .... Venetto (5/5): This sandwich is pretty much everything I wanted. The bread came out warm, fresh, and soft. The avo, normally the king of all things millennial was fresh, but I was more taken aback by the roasted red pepper and artichoke. The arugula and house vinaigrette tie it so nicely together. I added fresh motz for $2 more and it all felt whole. Service (5/5): Quick service, brought me the food. Super friendly and helpful when ordering. TL;DR: A major win for City Hall and Downtown Manhattan. Affordable bite to eats are hard to find here. If I'm in the area would absolutely return.

A great place to get a sandwich in the area. There are many options including vegetarian ones. The smoked chicken is thinly sliced and the mozzarella is fresh.

I visited Chipilo on a Monday. Overall service was good and quick - I had my sandwich within 2 minutes of ordering. The staff was also very friendly. The sandwich itself was a bit bready - I got the Chipileno and they were a bit stingy with the Prosciutto. The meat to bread ratio was not ideal. The dressing did taste nice and the bread was very fresh. Overall good service, but the sandwich itself was just average.

Small high quality Italian sandwich shop. Excellent ingredients which are fresh and assembled to order. I usually get the whole size (vs. half) which can be a bit pricey depending on what you choose. Bread is usually fresh but have had a couple instances where it wasn't as fresh as I'd hoped. I tend to go with the sfilatino. They are happy to customize which is nice, I like their hot spread so often add it. All in all a fantastic option in the area if you're craving an Italian sandwich.

Solid sandwich served swiftly, friendly staff. Appreciated that they wouldn't give the person ahead of me an unripe avocado. Good lunch option for those near the courts.

Love the quality of the breads, the contents and the nice service. However its pricey for a sandwich. Small hole in the wall place with maybe 5 seats. Half sandwiches run around $8-9 dollars and full is around $14 depending on what you order. Got the full Massimo (ham, olives, artichoke and smoked mozzarella) and I was hoping to eat it as 2 separate meals. I didnt last 2 hours before I devoured the other half. a delicious sandwich sitting right next to me will never last.

Stopped by on a hot evening to see what has become of what used to be Sharkey. Was surprised to see that another business was in operation already. Decided to pop in and give the sandwiches a try. I decided on the Stefano (smoked chicken, smoked mozzarella, roasted peppers, arugula, hot spread). The sandwich itself is pretty big. I didn't measure it, but I'd say it's probably a foot-long. First complaint. When I unwrapped my sandwich back home, it was uncut. I mean, it's not a big deal but what reason is there to not cut a sandwich that long? Would someone really pick up the whole foot and start chowing down? Also, the bread it is on is a very basic whole wheat (I think) bun. The bread was a bit dry actually. On first bite, my thought was where's the hot spread?? Upon inspection, there is SOME sort of sauce in the sandwich. I couldn't tell you what, but it sure wasn't hot sauce. Not even a hint of spiciness. Overall, unimpressive. The sandwich was super basic. Way too expensive. Came out to be $14 and change after taxes. I miss Sharkey's Cafe :(

Imported meats only! Cut at the moment by the man himself (Manolo). Very cool staff!!

The place is great!! Sandwiches made to perfection :) I'm a huge fan of my sandwiches but I'm a little picky with my food, so I hate it when I go to the store and they only have turkey ham and w.e but no pork so being able to go somewhere, where you can look at the menu and everything seems good it's not something I see every day. The people are so nice and friendly that when I asked if they had mayo because I didn't see it at all they said they'll get me some. So that's something I truly look for in a place. Great service, great food and my next must go to spot for sandwiches.

Best sandwich spot in Chinatown. Grab one (a full size is plenty) and chill at the park and watch dogs run and kids play. Life ain't bad.

The Jeju Green Tangerine Matcha honestly just tastes like a tangerine selter drink but in the best way, because I don't typically enjoy seltzer or carbonated beverages. I really enjoy the flavor and the carbonation isn't too strong, probably because I brought it home to drink. I don't really taste the matcha but I would definitely still order this again. 2. Matcha Einspanner. This is my first time having an Einspanner so I have no idea what I was expecting but this is DELICIOUS. It's so silky and smooth and the TASTE is just right up my alley. The matcha is light but you can still taste it. Absolutely, would drink this all the time if I could. 3. Purple Sweet Potato Latte. This. This. Omg, why haven't I tried this sooner?! The first sip and initial taste, I almost tasted nothing, just milk. And then all of a sudden, there's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. As a sweet potato lover, I was in heaven. I have absolutely no words for this drink, just try it. 100/10 recommend. This is probably my favorite one out of the 3 that I bought. I went around ... 2:45PM on a Friday and most of the seats were taken, if I remember correctly. There were a decent amount of seats and the space was decent. I liked the minimal aesthetic they had for the design of the interior. Not to forget, the staff at the register was absolutely wonderful, she answered all my questions, she's so sweet. I think I'm disappointed that I haven't tried this place sooner. Y'all get out of your comfort zone and try the Purple Sweet Potato Latte !! Or if not, just try this place out. I will definitely be recommending the Purple Sweet Potato Latte to all my family and friends.

While it was a fun and unique drink, I probably should have opted for something else. The topping was literally like actual tiramisu rather than just tiramisu flavoring, and it felt like there was more ice and tiramisu than latte. Personally, I would have preferred more of the tiramisu flavor without the full tiramisu texture mixed into the drink. That said, it was an interesting concept and I'm glad I tried it. I'd definitely be open to coming back and trying another latte on a future visit.

I probably never leave reviews in general, especially negative ones, but this experience was so…read moreegregious that I honestly felt like I had to say something. I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.
