Small sandwich shop in walking distance to the Met. Pro tip is to order online before coming. It's super busy. Everything is made to order. The bread is amazing - delicate but hefty. The sandwiches are generous. Perfect amount for a lunch option.

This place is pretty good! I normally just come for a quick pickup lunch when I'm working from home and I'm happy to have this in the area as an option. It's a super small restaurant, so I wouldn't expect to sit here or do work for a significant period of time, given that most of the space is taken up by the kitchen. I've only ever had super quick interactions with the staff because I'm grabbing pick up orders, but the fact that the service is quick is really nice. They have a great selection of authentic and unique sandwiches, pastas, and salads. This time, I opted for the portofino sandwich ($11) which has cooked ham, fontina cheese, and fig jam, and evoo. While simple, this sandwich is very good. The bread was fresh and I always love the cheese/jam combo. I also think that given the size, the food is priced well. A good Italian find on the UES.

Got the chance to stop by Panineria recently with some friend and I was pleasantly surprised. They know how to make a good sandwich. There weren't too many seats inside but enough for me and my friends. They had one table outside. Hospitality was fantastic. Pepe does a great job running the place. Their peach lemonade was amazing. I ended up getting the Valtellina Sandwich which was great. The quality of food was what sold me. It was like a little Italy in the shop. Everything and one felt authentic. I like the way they have images of all their menu items so you can get a good look at what you're getting. Look forward to going back.

We stopped by Panineria as I wanted to use my Classpass points to purchase a sandwich and this shop came with high reviews. Shop is very tiny, barely a table to sit at as it is always so crowded. Staff were very nice! We wanted to grab an eggplant sandwich to go and sadly it did not match up to what I was expecting. First, the slice of eggplant was so thin, it was literally one thin slice with a slice of cheese and arugula. It just did not satisfy my craving for eggplant parm hero. The ratio of eggplant to bread was not what I was expecting. When I get eggplant parm hero, I expect to bite into slices of eggplant, but this was not the case. However, I did enjoy the bread very much and liked this eggplant was not breaded! So it felt like a healthier version. But overall, if I had to pay $17 for this sandwich, it would definitely be worth it for me.

Cremona Sandwich on Homemade Fluffy Onions Focaccia

Pictures don't do justice but man oh man were the sandwiches here amazing! Both the ciabatta and the onion focaccia were amazing breads both light and soft. The Torre Del Greco was a hot roasted pork sandwich and mushrooms and while it was so simple it was just packed with deep flavor. The Cremona sandwich was just quality ingredients, the burrata on it was insane. I will say the burrata overpowered the mortadella a little bit but when you got a bite where you could taste everything it just was a perfect combo. Quality ingredients, and you defintely pay the price for it, definitely an expensive sandwich but 100% worth it in my eyes.

Just go. Who doesn't love a good Italian sandwich shop? But even amongst the authentic ones, some are just better than others. We stumbled into Panineria for lunch after it recently opened. Giuseppe was manning the counter and was a true gem. He told us about their commitment to only authentically imported Italian ingredients. We've heard this before, but here, you can really taste it in every single ingredient. We created our own sandwich -- spicy sopresetta, fresh Mozz, marinated mushrooms, roasted peppers, balsamic glaze and pesto on lightly toasted baguette. It was a hard 10 and possibly the single best Italian sandwich I've ever had. Why? Every ingredient was its own star of the show. The bread was fresh and crunchy and perfectly toasted. The sopresetta was delicious, not overly salted or spiced, and not overly rationed (some sandwiches you have to take half the meat off). Mozz was delicious. Peppers and mushrooms were both flavorful and wonderfully marinated. Balsamic and pesto were both high quality and delicious. The proportions across all ingredients were just perfect. After our lunch, Giuseppe treated us to their house made cannoli. Again -- best I've had. Splurge for them, even if it's only lunchtime. Super crunchy and delicious shell, perfectly balanced cream filling, a real treat. I'll be back here soon and recommend you give it a try. Super super delicious!!

Okay so I found this place on a random instagram ad and it looked good, so I decided to stop in since I live in the neighborhood. They have a couple of locations and very passionate, friendly Italian owners. Shout out to Peppe working at the counter today, seems like an awesome guy. I came here for the first time yesterday and it was so good I came back today. Yeah. There is dedication to authenticity and quality ingredients and this place is WAY more than just a neighborhood lunch spot. MEATBALLS PANINI First of all the bread is perfect. It's got this beautiful, hearty crunch, and underlying chewiness. The meatballs are cut in half, and are in this savory fresh tomato sauce. The arugula adds freshness and the slices of parmesan cheese are sharp and add extra umami. Tender, flavored meatballs are honored in this sandwich. It's not like a "meatball sub," which are typically overly greasy, oily and just a mess. This is like a meatball sandwich graduated. I'm still thinking about it and so happy that this place is near me. Will def be going back. HOMEMADE PEACH LEMONADE I'm a sucker for a lemonade, especially a flavored one. The peach flavor is nice and strong, the drink itself thicker than a traditional lemonade (like peach nectar) and even a bit sour, which is to my liking. ICED CAPPUCCINO Bonus points for keeping the foam over an iced cappuccino. Great pick-me up to go with the sandwich. Wishing this place all the success. They have multiple locations and hope this one sticks around for a long time!

    Valtellina Sandwich

I got the Valtellina Sandwich. It was very good. I ended up adding banana peppers and chives plus a little mayo. It was very tasty. The bread, cheese, arugula and prosciutto seemed fresh. Bread had a good crisp. Everything in good proportion. My husband walked out with a cream puff, and my only complaint is that he didn't get me one. Haha. We will prob be back!

Picked up a sandwich for lunch. They have various Italian style staples. I went for a prosciutto, mozzarella, tomato and basil option called a Peppe, and had it in a baguette (and warmed up). It was pretty tasty, and quite a lot of food. However it ended up being about $17 which seems kind of expensive for a sandwich.... Staff were friendly. Place is fairly small, counter space had seats for 3 to 4 people, but no tables. Also serving coffee and a few pastries.

Particularly the penne funghi is to die for. Tried the linguine vongole clam pasta for the first time and was pretty good as well! Just wish there was more sauce and the clams were the tiniest size I've seen which was disappointing and to make matters worse, a good 1/3 of them were empty. Besides that, the meal was delightful and still great value as it was delicious with huge portions! Love! However, service at this particular branch is nowhere near as good as other branches. I understand it's busy and it's always incredibly crowded with people and cramped seating and loud music/voices but this was like no other. When I arrived party of 2, they had nearly 5 tables empty and yet we couldn't sit at any of them because the had to wait for reservations to see if they arrived and we had to wait 15 min but they said they'd let us know. We were forced to sit at the bar which the giant metal can of alcohol bottles took up 1/2 my seating/dining area and no one bothered to move it or ask if that was okay because obviously it wasn't but the didn't care. We waited awhile for the food to come and during that time we asked if there really wasn't any table availability since tables clearly open and the denied again even though reservations never came. Literally 3 tables remains consistently empty throughout our entire dining experience confined to the cramped bar area. They even closed the door, separating the outdoor diners which was weird and it became insufferably hot inside, even on a cold windy day. Bathroom situation here is also terrible as it is downstairs with steep narrow stairs and me and other customers almost bumped into each other and staff carrying multitude of food dishes and dirty dishes up and down the stairs. Never have I ever had such an undelightful experience going to bathroom at a restaurant. Additionally, sink water pressure either had no water coming out or a giant spray of water making it impossible to wash hands without getting a whole shower. This location really needs work. Only reason why I'm not giving it five stars is because I love Fumo as a whole. Just skip this location.

We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well. Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!

L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of…read moreit being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

The first thing I noticed was there were 7 people in my party and 4 arrived early and did not have to wait for my arrival to be seated. Second the waiter who took our order was polite and on point with specials and knowledge of the menu. He (just never caught his name) suggested the Rigatoni which chicken and sausage.
