Our favorite NY Italian restaurant! The food is amazing - this dinner we had the kale Caesar salad, orecchiette with mushrooms and broccoli, pappardella bolognese and the pear tart with gelato! The service is terrific- friendly and attentive. And the atmosphere is charming and relaxing. You leave here feeling happy. read more

We walked in on a Monday night around 630 and were able to secure a spot for 5. It's small, decorated well, and service is good. I split the Pear salad and Scallop linguini with my partner. Salad was great - I would skip the linguini. My friends enjoyed the food they got. I tried one of my friend's penne and that was delicious. Solid Italian spot in Chelsea. read more

The food was yummy and the service was great! I made a last minute reservation for a large party of 18. I was surprised they were able to accommodate us on such short notice (3 days) but was very happy I chose this place. They have a large room in the back for private parties I think and thankfully it was available. We ordered a la carte but I think they also have prix fixe if you're interested. Everyone enjoyed their food. They only serve beer and wine which was fine for our group. The food came out pretty quickly and the wait staff were really great! read more

Good food - we ordered the calamari, penne vodka, and papardelle. Don't recommend the calamari though -- it was honestly more fried zucchini than it was calamari, but for the price of calamari lol. So not really worth it, but still tasty. There are better places for calamari though. The pastas were great and perfectly aldente. Good service - waiter came in to check in on us a lot and was very friendly. Good ambiance - fairly large restaurant with ample seating and cute decorations. Overall, recommend. read more

I enjoyed the kale Caesar salad, penne vodka, and meatballs. The penne vodka was pretty flavorful. Calamari was decent as well. I would def come back as well as ordering takeout. I think prices are reasonable for NYC. I haven't been to many italian places though.. read more

Very average Italian in a cozy ambiance. We had the ravioli and rigatoni in their bolognese. The pasta was filling but the bolognese had that somewhat cheap and tart "fast casual" flavor and consistency. Wouldn't come back with so many better options in the neighborhood. read more

I bring everyone I love to this place. It is so delicious, and truly I have not found anywhere better in NJ or NY yet. I adore the service, the ambience, the food, everything about it. The fettuccine with mushroom and cream sauce and truffle oil is incredible, but I usually go between that, the fettuccine norcina, and the pesto and burrata. Also to die for! read more

We had a delicious meal here yesterday. Started with a nicely balanced Spritz and kale Caesar salad. The salad could've used a splash of more dressing, but was otherwise very fresh and well seasoned. We ordered the eggplant pasta, truffle sausage pasta, and the salmon. All were excellent. We subbed fresh pappardelle on the eggplant dish which was nice and chewy and seasoned simply (garlic, olive oil, salt= perfection). The truffle was not too overpowering, added a nice touch of flavor. read more

A cozy neighborhood spot! It was pretty crowded for a Sunday but we were lucky enough to sit at the chefs table even though we might have had to share with others but we didn't mind that. The pastas and pizzas seemed very home made and the waiters checked in on us multiple times. Overall a really solid meal and affordable pricing for NYC - would be back for a hearty meal! read more

Nice Italian spot, seems like a good location easy to park and find. The restaurant wasn't too loud or crowded. The food overall was decent quality. The Italian bread I was provided was stale and hard. It should be slightly soft or warmed up atleast. My colleague also complained the wine glass wasn't clean and could see film and spot on it. Had to be changed. But we can ignore those little things. As for the food, I think overall the pastas are well made, I like the sauce and fresh made pastas. The bolognese sauce could use more meat and seasoning it seems so lacking of it more like meat wasn't even there. The pastas also served on a big plate with very little. More like a small dish in portion. Overall, decent food but needs a bit more quality and quantity per dish. A few more sprinkles of seasoning and a bit more generous portions would go a long way. read more

Amazing spot for a high quality and well priced Italian meal in Chelsea. I was craving some really good chicken parm, and Pepe Giallo did it right. Super crispy, flavorful sauce and lots of cheese. I'm here for it. The parm also came with a side of really tasty and garlicky sauteed spinach. We also tried the sausage pizza and the bruschetta. Both standout. The bruschetta was literally the highlight of the meal, on such good bread with the most fresh tomatoes. The ambiance is super cute and it's exactly the type of vibe you'd want at a cozy little Italian eatery downtown. There are a few small tables on the patio, and we loved eating outside. Wash everything down with a spritz! They have a wine liquor license, so it's not technically an aperol spritz, but it tasted the same and I enjoyed it. It's hard to figure out where to eat in the city with endless options, but for comforting Italian food and fair prices this is a wonderful choice. Would definitely return. read more

Pepe Giallo is a beautiful space from the outside to the inside to the garden in the back. I went for lunch on a Saturday as a walk in on my birthday and I'm so glad I did. It was my first time there and the waiter told us they were booked for the night so we were happy to get in for lunch. There is so much care and love put into the decor evidenced by the hanging plants and fresh flowers on each table, it really set the mood. We ordered penne a la vodka and prosciutto pizza and both dishes were delicious. Chris was our server and he was attentive and friendly and invited us to view the garden. We will definitely return with friends to experience eating in the garden and try other dishes. If I had one complaint it would be that the AC was on artic. It was 85 degrees outside so it's understandable why it was so cold inside but it prevented me from drinking my cold beverage. read more

Friendly neighbor spot. Always a good meal and reasonable menu selection and prices. Small space but well planned table placement.

Cozy and inviting. My picky eater ate his entire margherita pizza, just leaving me the crust which was also delicious. We ate our entire entrees. Homemade pasta was amazing. Service was quick and neat. Would come back again. read more

This was THE perfect and dreamiest birthday spot - cannot give high enough praise to this establishment. They were able to accommodate a large party with little notice and the decor was so gorgeous. Also, it was super affordable considering the area and we loved their pasta. They didn't have any cocktails on the menu but the wine was great and we had the best time. For my birthday song they even turned off the lights and made me feel super special. Can't wait to come back! read more

If you're looking for a cozy and romantic date night spot that's big on the decor (think string lights and ivy hanging from the ceiling) but tender on the wallet, Pepe Giallo might just fit the bill (get it, cuz wallet? Haha). Portions were ample for pasta entrees clocking in at $20-30. We love getting three pastas to try because one each is never quite enough and two each is a bit too much. So we opted for the tasty Orecchiette and the even tastier Pappardelle x 2. Mmm, carbtastic! Wine lovers will be happy to find that the house wines are just $9/glass. That's practically free in these inflationary times! read more

First things first 10/5 truly! If you care to read more please enjoy the rest of the review but if you just need a number know that you won't be let down by the food here. We ordered the lasagna and lemon chicken to share. Great freaking choices. The portion size was already doing the dish justice. The amount of sauce dancing all over the plate brought nothing but joy to my heart. The chicken was tender, juicy, lemony, and delicious. You know those dishes you can eat again right after, this was it! The lasagna was flavorful, soft and had just the right amount of cheese and then a lil' extra We couldn't have been more delighted with the dinner. We left there full and happy as can be. The restaurant is super cute inside and quite busy, reservations are recommended. I'm excited to go back and try something else because that was a fantastic first time. read more

Pepe Giallo - Lemon Chicken with Side of Broccoli - Italian Near Me - New York, New York

Pepe Giallo is a wonderful little upscale Italian restaurant that is guaranteed to delight with its food and prices. We came as a small group and had a fun and tasty meal that started with drinks and ended with a strong refusal of dessert (on account that we were way too full). Keeping things pretty standard we started with drinks, calamari, and bruschetta (my favorite). The drinks were drinks (we just had beer and wine) but the food started us out on the right foot. From there we each had a little of everything but I especially liked the Parradelle, it was tasty! Where this place really scored with me was the decor. Being no interior designer I am at a loss for how to describe it, but let me try with saying it has 70's vibes (which I loved) - it was so well done! To top it off, our waiter was a treat. Our one visit was enough to make me a PG fan who can't wait to come back again. read more

First and last time here. Although the staff couldn't have been nicer, the food was completely underwhelming. We asked for nuts on the side w/ the arugula/pear salad, and halfway through, we noticed they were in the bowl. Aside from the fact one of us could've died if we were allergic, it was a symptom of things to come. Asked a bus boy for extra marinara sauce for the calamari (bland), he never came back. Had to ask the waiter again ten minutes later. As far as the food, I will say the penne vodka was very good and the pizza was decent, but the pappardelle/sausage tasted like Beefaroni. The lasagna was also underwhelming, and my girlfriend ordered the shells in basil garlic olive oil which was flavorless. With so many great places to go for Italian in NYC, it's amazing this place is still in biz. Again, very nice and accommodating staff, but the food was meh. read more

TLDR: Been here three times now and I'm a big fan! Might be my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. Super reasonably priced Italian! FOOD: Our favorite dish is the Mushroom Fettuccine with truffle oil. Kale Caesar Salad and Chocolate Cake are both very good. SERVICE: Normally good. I had one experience out of three where it was a bit slow getting our order, but I didn't mind - we weren't in a rush and were enjoying ourselves hanging out. AMBIANCE: Super cute (lots of plants)! Really good date spot. VALUE: Amazing. So reasonable for NYC. And I've never needed a reservation, which is extra valuable. OVERALL: Will be back again and again! read more

I was looking around the neighborhood for a good restaurant for a dinner with a group of friends before we were scheduled to attend an nearby special event. I was bringing together a group of friends from work and outside of work, so I needed some that would appeal to people from different walks of life... something comfortable... not too fancy or too casual. Enter Pepe Giallo! I scouted pictures of the place from the internet and caught glimpse of their beautiful back yard/garden. The place look small but it's actually got a lot of dining space tucked into nooks and crannies. It's easy to miss the back room but I didn't (;-). I'm elated to report that dinner was great! The restaurant staff was gracious enough to seat part of the group while late stragglers made their way to us (It's so hard coordinating groups of friends these days). Dinner was supposed to be light and quick but we ended up trying multiple pizzas, pasta, calamari, bruschetta etc. We ended up being stuffed and taking some pizza to go. The visit was perfect except for one thing: It was sometimes difficult to get the attention of the wait staff, especially in the latter half of dinner. I'm not sure if it was because the "front of the house" was busy or what but it was noticeable and I distinctly remembered that. That said, don't let my experience stop you from going! The food is great, so is the atmosphere. So tell the squad to form up (and try to be on time)! read more
