We had a delicious meal here yesterday. Started with a nicely balanced Spritz and kale Caesar salad. The salad could've used a splash of more dressing, but was otherwise very fresh and well seasoned. We ordered the eggplant pasta, truffle sausage pasta, and the salmon. All were excellent. We subbed fresh pappardelle on the eggplant dish which was nice and chewy and seasoned simply (garlic, olive oil, salt= perfection). Good food - we ordered the calamari, penne vodka, and papardelle. Don't recommend the calamari though -- it was honestly more fried zucchini than it was calamari, but for the price of calamari lol. So not really worth it, but still tasty. There are better places for calamari though. The pastas were great and perfectly aldente. Had to be changed. But we can ignore those little things. As for the food, I think overall the pastas are well made, I like the sauce and fresh made pastas. Amazing spot for a high quality and well priced Italian meal in Chelsea. I was craving some really good chicken parm, and Pepe Giallo did it right. Super crispy, flavorful sauce and lots of cheese. I'm here for it. The parm also came with a side of really tasty and garlicky sauteed spinach. We also tried the sausage pizza and the bruschetta. Both standout. The bruschetta was literally the highlight of the meal, on such good bread with the most fresh tomatoes. The ambiance is super cute and it's exactly the type of vibe you'd want at a cozy little Italian eatery downtown. There are a few small tables on the patio, and we loved eating outside. Wash everything down with a spritz! They have a wine liquor license, so it's not technically an aperol spritz, but it tasted the same and I enjoyed it. It's hard to figure out where to eat in the city with endless options, but for comforting Italian food and fair prices this is a wonderful choice. Would definitely return. read more

Pepe Giallo is a beautiful space from the outside to the inside to the garden in the back. I went for lunch on a Saturday as a walk in on my birthday and I'm so glad I did. It was my first time there and the waiter told us they were booked for the night so we were happy to get in for lunch. There is so much care and love put into the decor evidenced by the hanging plants and fresh flowers on each table, it really set the mood. We ordered penne a la vodka and prosciutto pizza and both dishes were delicious. Chris was our server and he was attentive and friendly and invited us to view the garden. We will definitely return with friends to experience eating in the garden and try other dishes. If I had one complaint it would be that the AC was on artic. It was 85 degrees outside so it's understandable why it was so cold inside but it prevented me from drinking my cold beverage. read more

This was THE perfect and dreamiest birthday spot - cannot give high enough praise to this establishment. They were able to accommodate a large party with little notice and the decor was so gorgeous. Also, it was super affordable considering the area and we loved their pasta. They didn't have any cocktails on the menu but the wine was great and we had the best time. Pepe Giallo is a wonderful little upscale Italian restaurant that is guaranteed to delight with its food and prices. We came as a small group and had a fun and tasty meal that started with drinks and ended with a strong refusal of dessert (on account that we were way too full). Keeping things pretty standard we started with drinks, calamari, and bruschetta (my favorite). The drinks were drinks (we just had beer and wine) but the food started us out on the right foot. From there we each had a little of everything but I especially liked the Parradelle, it was tasty! Where this place really scored with me was the decor. Being no interior designer I am at a loss for how to describe it, but let me try with saying it has 70's vibes (which I loved) - it was so well done! To top it off, our waiter was a treat. First and last time here. Although the staff couldn't have been nicer, the food was completely underwhelming. We asked for nuts on the side w/ the arugula/pear salad, and halfway through, we noticed they were in the bowl. Aside from the fact one of us could've died if we were allergic, it was a symptom of things to come. Asked a bus boy for extra marinara sauce for the calamari (bland), he never came back. Had to ask the waiter again ten minutes later. As far as the food, I will say the penne vodka was very good and the pizza was decent, but the pappardelle/sausage tasted like Beefaroni. The lasagna was also underwhelming, and my girlfriend ordered the shells in basil garlic olive oil which was flavorless. Haha). Portions were ample for pasta entrees clocking in at $20-30. We love getting three pastas to try because one each is never quite enough and two each is a bit too much. We ordered the lasagna and lemon chicken to share. Great freaking choices. The portion size was already doing the dish justice. The amount of sauce dancing all over the plate brought nothing but joy to my heart. The chicken was tender, juicy, lemony, and delicious. You know those dishes you can eat again right after, this was it! The lasagna was flavorful, soft and had just the right amount of cheese and then a lil' extra We couldn't have been more delighted with the dinner. We left there full and happy as can be. I was looking around the neighborhood for a good restaurant for a dinner with a group of friends before we were scheduled to attend an nearby special event. Enter Pepe Giallo! I scouted pictures of the place from the internet and caught glimpse of their beautiful back yard/garden. The place look small but it's actually got a lot of dining space tucked into nooks and crannies. It's easy to miss the back room but I didn't (;-). I'm elated to report that dinner was great! The restaurant staff was gracious enough to seat part of the group while late stragglers made their way to us (It's so hard coordinating groups of friends these days). Dinner was supposed to be light and quick but we ended up trying multiple pizzas, pasta, calamari, bruschetta etc. We ended up being stuffed and taking some pizza to go. The visit was perfect except for one thing: It was sometimes difficult to get the attention of the wait staff, especially in the latter half of dinner. I'm not sure if it was because the "front of the house" was busy or what but it was noticeable and I distinctly remembered that. That said, don't let my experience stop you from going! I stumbled upon Pepe Giallo this past Saturday evening while out in Chelsea after visiting a nearby art gallery. We had searched on the Yelp app the terms "Italian restaurant date ambiance" and chose them from the top three results. The recent 5-star reviews had me convinced and as I reflect upon the dining experience, they were all incredibly accurate. We got the penne ala vodka with pancetta, fettuccine with mushroom and our mozz burrata. Everything was super hardy, filling and absolutely scrumptious. I love that they gave us a carafe of water and also placed a jar of parmesan cheese for us to use at our leisure (and that we did.. over and over again). The ambiance of the enclosed outdoor seating was quite charming and the flowers/plants created a nice romantic atmosphere. What I especially appreciated was the reasonable pricing too. At only about $50 or so for all the above, I felt it was quite a bargain. Turns out, when you don't drink, meals are quite affordable.. who would've that =) Oh and I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on the service. OUTSTANDING!
