I was in the area attending a cheese event at Murray's and wanted to find a place for dinner. Found Ferdi through the Seated app. I was glad that our timing was perfect to take advantage of the early dinner price fix menu that is even a better deal than restaurant week. 3 courses for $30! It even included steak without a surcharge. Mussels were a good size and arrived with all shells open. The white wine garlic and tomato broth had a steady garlic level that went well with the mussels themselves. The steak was a shell steak that was tender and seasoned perfectly. It was accompanied by a flavorful mix of shiitake mushrooms, peppers and roasted potatoes. The included dessert was a simple but satisfying scoop of vanilla gelato with sliced strawberries and a biscotti. The aperitivo happy hour was also in effect so I got an elderflower spritz that was sweet and refreshing. Service was excellent and not intrusive. I'll definitely return for another early dinner. The value is excellent for the quality and quantity of food that you get. We were in the area and needed to find a place for dinner. Ferdi is a small Italian restaurant that can be good for a date or meeting up with friends. We went in the afternoon where they had an early dinner prixe fixe menu of three courses for $30. For appetizer I had the mussels in a red broth. It was very flavorful in the broth and the mussels absorbed all the flavor. I would recommend using the bread to eat up the broth. For the entree I had the chicken and shrimp florentine which came with roasted potatoes and sautéed spinach. The sauce was very flavorful loved the dish. The dessert was biscotti with vanilla gelato. The biscotti was a little too hard for my taste, but I did like the creamy gelato. Service was really good as our waitress made sure we had everything we needed. Huge fan of this place for brunch! First time we came because I saw some videos of it and suggested it for my friend's birthday and we had such a blast! It was pretty empty but the food was delicious and we weren't rushed at all, the waitress was so kind and sang to my friend. I got the penne alla norma (which is penne vodka) and it was incredible. Some other people at the table got carbonara or shrimp scampi and raved about it too. Plus the free flowing brunch cocktails! Same friend and I went just the two of us recently and had a slightly worse experience. The waiter was rushing us a lot and didn't seem like he wanted to be bothered with us. We came to Ferdi on a whim on a Saturday night just walking around trying to find a spot for dinner. They were not super busy so thankfully we were able to walk in, it seems like there's not many italian places in the area you can go to without a reservation so I was happy to be seated. This place is very lowkey, no frills and it feels like you're at someone's house with the mismatched plates. Honestly I would say it reminded me of some local italian places in NJ. Normally when a place does bottomless drinks, I'll expect the food to just be okay, but the food was an amazing highlight! The restaurant is cozy and warm with some interesting design elements throughout that don't necessarily fit in. Sun - Thur, there's a 3 course prix fixe menu that we decided to try. I'm always a fan of trying many different items instead of going all in on one or two. However, the food was largely underwhelming. The appetizers are a bit hit and miss. The arancini were bland but the tomato sauce helped to complement. The stuffed mushrooms have a decent flavor but they're on the soggier side. For the entrees, the chicken Milanese was a small piece of breaded chicken under arugula, tomatoes, and mozzarella. The tuna livornese was possible one of the saltiest dishes I've ever had. The reviews do not match the reality of this place. To start, the service was extremely slow with zero sense of urgency. The food was just terrible. We order bread, and it tasted like it was purchased at Walmart several days ago. The meatballs, were dry and tasted disgusting. The shrimp scampi was like rubber and after 2 hours of waiting, we finally got our entrees to only to be even more disappointed. The bolognese was just disgusting, and the chicken parmesan had zero flavor. You would think this is bad enough, but no, it gets worse. The complimentary birthday ice cream for my friend had a sharp plastic object. When brought up to the owner, her response was, "Yeah, it must be from the tub" - zero apologies or anything. Saying this is one of the worst experiences we've had by far is an understatement. I don't understand how this place has any good reviews. It makes absolutely no sense. read more

Service: Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He didn't do anything particularly noticeable, but he paid good attention to us and made sure we were happy throughout. Wow, wow, wow! I love finding excellent restaurants that go the extra step to welcome their patrons and make them return as happy guests. Ferdi lives up to that standard and it was such a pleasure to relax and enjoy the food and wine. For starters they had an exceptional selection for the Seven fishes offering in addition to the extensive normal menu. I had some apprehension about dining out on Christmas Eve but had a reservation for 6:15 that I was able to make earlier in the morning online. When I arrived early at 6:00 I was greeted by the hostess who said she had been waiting for me, very happy to see that they treat their guests so warmly. I was given my choice of tables up front and was quickly greeted by my waiter with the specials and cold bottled water. I ordered the fried calamari with a glass of Cabernet sauvignon to start and was served the proper way before making the pour. It was a generous hot portion of calamari with a nice sauce, well cooked and not at all rubbery or greasy. Next was the Tuna Al Balsamico, a new but delicious dish for me, perfectly cooked medium and also a generous amount with pearl onions, sliced potatoes and vegetables. I was very impressed by this dish and had no room for dessert but ordered two ricotta cheesecake to go. One day later and the cheesecake was delicious. I will definitely return to sample more of Ferdi's fine foods, oh and the hostess also said Merry Christmas and thanked me for my business, did I say wow?!??! Oh and the amazing ambiance makes it a great place for having a conversation with others and not having to shout over others or obnoxiously loud music found in other places. I hosted a birthday dinner at Ferdi last night and wanted to share my fantastic experience. The restaurant was super accommodating for my large party and was able to offer a prefixe 3 course menu of $38 per person (which they normally offer Sunday-Thursday). The prefixe menu offered a really great variety of options both pasta, chicken, and fish dishes. The location of the restaurant is amazing in prime west village. For that prefixe price, it's rare to find in the area. I also felt such a welcoming feeling of hospitality. The owner Aida, printed out menus with a celebratory message. They also got me balloons, completely unexpected! I brought my own cake to the restaurant and they went above and beyond to add sparklers and did not charge for a cake fee. The atmosphere felt cozy and while I had a large party I wasn't overwhelmed by loud music or dark lighting. I actually felt like I could talk to each person in my party. This is rare in a lot of large table settings in NYC. All the food is made in house by chef Fernando up to the rainbow cookie desserts. I will definitely be back! read more

A lovely Sunday lunch with an old friend at Ferdi in the West Village. They serve a prix-fixe, old-school lunch including eggplant rollatini, ziti & meatballs, chicken parm, and salmon oreganata. Everything was delicious! For dessert, my friend ordered their tiramisu. The owner also brought us their new lemon cream cake to try. Given that it's Lent, I resisted and my skinny friend ate both! (I did, however, have a delicious espresso martini and sampled their homemade limoncello). Ferdi's is run by sister & brother duo Aida & Fernando Scarpati. They are 3rd generation restauranteurs and named the restaurant in honor of their grandfather who came to the U.S. from the island of Ponza in 1955. Ordered the linguini white clam sauce and spaghetti carbonara. Linguini with white clam sauce was really nothing more than normal pasta tossed in a simple garlic parsley sauce. The spaghetti carbonara though was not what we expected- the noodles were sitting in a watery, unappealing "sauce" and the pancetta lacked flavor, anclumped up with the cheese. read more
