We were in New York near the Times Square strolling and found this place, lucky for us it wasn't as packed so we got a table and wow, what an experience. Amazing food, lovely ambience, we had a great time here. Pizzas - margherita was great, viddana which is the roasted red pepper, artichoke with mushrooms was really really well done. Pasta - loved the casarecce which was pasta with eggplant in that lovely Sicilian almond basil pesto was delicious! Dessert - cannoli - I'm not a fan of cannolis but this one really hit the spot with that lightly sweetened ricotta cheese with the caramelized orange peel (this did it for me!) and crushed pistachio nuts. One my favorite Italian restaurants in NY in the Hells Kitchen neighborhood! It's cozy, the food is outstanding, and I make sure that I return every time I travel to NY! I love seafood, so I always get either the spaghetti with clams or spaghetti with seafood. They also are known for the wood fired Neapolitan pizzas. read more

This is a pretty solid spot for some Italian food in a neighborhood that is pretty chaotic/not known for good restaurants. The restaurant is a decent size and lit with mood lighting. I sat at the bar promptly at 5pm, which is when happy hour ends (they only do happy hour 3pm-5pm) but the bartender was nice enough to accommodate one glass of wine at the happy hour price. I had the cacio e pepe which was good and not too rich, as sometimes it can be in other restaurants. Service was fast, efficient and kind. I didn't have much time so I was glad that the whole meal was efficient. Prices are pretty standard and the happy hour drinks are a good deal. It was my first night in New York City. We got this recommendation from some locals. It was super close to our hotel so why not try it? I made a reservation once we arrive. I saw they had a bar and we opted to sit at the bar. The chairs were small and not super comfortable but I still preferred the bar. We ordered a bottle of wine. They brought us some bread. The olive oil that was with the bread was so flavorful. I did ask what it was, but I've already forgotten. We had a Caprese salad. Super delicious. We literally stumbled on this place on our first night in NYC while wandering round and all of a sudden feeling very hungry. No tables were available but they were able to accomodate 4 of us at the bar. We had the beet and goat cheese salad with the rosemary foccaccia bread to share between us, it was amazing. Then my friend and I had probably one of the best things I have evere tasted, flounder stuffed with crab meat. It was to die for, we both said how amazing it was. Hubbies had a pizza each and they loved it. We were in the city for 5 nights and we enjoyed the food so much that we actually went back on the last night and ordered the fish again. We also had the Belgian Chocolate Mousse, which we had to share, it was too rich for me alone. It is very hard for my wife who is Italian but has to eat gluten free to be at an Italian restaurant and not be able to order what she would like to eat. We had ordered quite a few dishes and were truly happy with everything. The burrata was creamy and silky, probably the best I have ever had. The arancine should be listed as extra large, they are huge! The spaghetti with chicken meatballs were a hit with my friend's son and the gnocchi melted in your mouth, they were so soft. There were two downsides. We were a party of three but they seated us at a two top right on top of the wait station with plenty of open tables. Also, our server might have been on the new side. She never told us about the specials, forgot the vegetable side dish we ordered, nor asked if we wanted to order desserts just offered the check. Franco, the manager was charming and very enthusiastic to share the history of the restaurant and how the interior is all original. My "go-to" in NYC for light and authentic Italian. I have been a frequent customer for 10+ years.

Would not recommend - rushed service and subpar food. Despite having a reservation for 3, they wanted to sit us at a table for 2 with a third chair awkwardly on the side even though there were plenty of tables available. We asked to move and got moved to a slightly better spot at the communal table. As we were eating we felt rushed, like they were trying to flip the table, despite more than half the seats in the restaurant being empty. We were out of there in 40 mins, so it's not like we overstayed our welcome. Bad vibes. Oh and to make things worse it was pretty hot inside, which was unfortunate as it is a rainy and humid day in August and I was hoping for some reprieve from the heat. I was sweating inside. The food itself is nothing special - Whole Wheat Penne with Salmon was overcooked and very fishy tasting. Margherita pizza was ok, but could be crispier at the bottom and thinner. At least it was fairly soft and not chewy. And finally the lasagna was good but not worth visiting for. Overall highly unimpressed and disappointed and will not be going back. Excellent place to check out in if you are staying in the hotels in the area! I made a reservation on yelp and then called over there to verify that they could accommodate with gluten free offerings. The manager Francesco took my call and walked me through my options and assured me that they were the place for me. Our sever Lejla was also extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I had the baresa pizza on the gluten free crust, and it was one of the best gluten free pizza crusts I've ever had! Simultaneously both pillowy AND crunchy, it was delightful and the toppings were excellent, flavorful, and abundant! It was the perfect pizza! My hubby also enjoyed his cacio e pepe pasta immensely. The ambiance is superb. Old style italian joint with a long communal table in the center and small tables to one side, bar on the other. We had the fried calamari and margaritas pizza . But not many times in my lifetime have I had it come to fruition.......THIS WAS SUPERB!! when I walk in to a joint that has a real italian wood fired oven I always will try and offering. What I observed about this oven was the size of the wood ablaze in the back....I knew the pie stood a chance of being exceptional if they timed it right. The pie was classic neoplitan with a firm thin surface and a nice pillow of chewy crust. The sauce was a beautiful color and was full of great tomato taste and mellow not acidic. The application of fresh basil to the finished pie made for a very pleasant bite. I took my time eating it, I wanted to savor the flavor forever!!! We shared a delicious sangiovese with the dishes. This is what happens when you make GREAT FOOD from simple and limited ingredients. Restaurants like this is what puts competitors out of business!!
