We get crazy for any decorated restaurants and this place was in our list for a while. After a long planning, we were able to experience last weekend Oscar Wilde's insanely good decors. We timed their summer's Alice in Wonderland theme and was not disappointed. Our group of 15 was situated in the room just when walked in from the front entrance . Not has the privacy we wanted, not has sitting comfort we expected , not the best food we waited but delighted to be with the most decorative backdrop. We had a delay on our food service, had a mixed up to few orders, there was one extra charge for drinks not accounted by our group hostess until after the stay and was not assisted to our expectation level. Nevertheless, the experience was lovely .
A unique bar for sure in terms of atmosphere! We came when it was Alice in Wonderland themed. I didn't recall it being like this last time I stopped in but the bartender let us know they decorate for all holidays and usually do something special in the summers. Every single corner is decorated. I appreciated how much space there was to sit at the bar, which is open seating. The cocktail list was a bit shorter than I expected and had some odd ingredients (salsa verde, soy sauce, etc) but my espresso martini was really balanced. We were less of a fan of the frozen hugo spritz, but it was definitely refreshing given the heat outside. One to check out if you appreciate a quirky atmosphere!
We love coming Oscar Wilde. We had a reservation but decided to sit at the bar. We enjoyed restaurant week which had a prefix menu. The food, cocktails and service were all very good. The atmosphere is loud because it is always crowded and there's a DJ playing but we don't mind the noise. The decor was Alice & Wonderland while we were there and it was spectacular.
What a gorgeous bar to celebrate the man, the myth, the legend. I had just reread The Picture of Dorian Gray with my book club so this was a fitting experience. The interior is beautiful, every corner is eye catching. They even have a screen that showcases his famous quotes. They have an extensive drink menu with themed cocktails. It was busy so things might get a bit delayed but the staff was nice. We ordered a bunch of cocktails. The Exile- This is a sweet and refreshing drink with raspberries, strawberries, vodka, and finished with greek mastiha mint. Secret Knock- This is a smoky drink with a bit of a bite. You get peach liqueur with cinnamon smoke, bitters, and yellowstone bourbon. Robbie's Reverie- This starts with violet gin, lemon, rhubarb, and tonic. Strong and citrusy. Devil's Kiss- You start with tempranillo, a little bit of strawberry apertif and orange liqueur, Finished with blackcurrant and brandy. Fruity with a kick. Great experience overall!
Amazing historic prohibition building. The place was decorated like Wonderland with moving flowers on the ceiling. The tea was light and delicious. Eclectic brunch items and adult drinks. A must for a fun brunch with ambiance.
Went for a friend's birthday! We caught happy hour and a Fifa match! Great vibes from the bar staff and the crowd! The guacamole/broccoli was refreshing! The beet salad with shrimp was perfect for a summer day! The prosecco was delicious! I heard the chicken wings were good! I enjoyed mushrooms with parmesan! Great spot! I would definitely return! Loved it!

This place visually draws you in and during the holiday season it just feels really special. With all that being said, be prepared for a packed restaurant, pricey drinks, and long lines. Again, if you're in that holiday spirit, it's definitely worth a visit but just be prepared for a lot of others looking to stop by too.
Happy hour is the way to go at Oscar Wilde without a doubt. The oysters were absolutely amazing very cream with a fresh taste along with drinks a dirty martini and ice coffee. The atmosphere was amazing the decor was very Oscar Wilde era with that poetic vibe
Oscar Wilde is a bit of a gimmick, I'd say, a hit among the themed-bars crowd and impressive to anyone not native to New York. I found the hodgepodge of old-timey decor to be a bit kitsch, but to each their own. I came with a group on a weeknight with no reservation. We were seated immediately on a high wood table. Although the bar wasn't busy (there were plenty of empty spaces, small groups scattered throughout the area), the service was quite slow. The server was inattentive and took a while to take our orders. We had to ask her for water three times, searching for her across the room in an attempt to catch her attention. She was a bit absent during the two-ish hours we were there. On the bright side, the drinks were fairly good. I ordered this strawberry vodka cocktail topped with whole mint. I'm wary of vodka for its harsh, unpleasant taste, but I found this drink to actually be very pleasant, tasing like a fruit smoothie you'd get from a local juicer. There was also a burgundy drink served on a wine glass that tasted like the holidays. I liked that one quite a bit. Overall, Oscar Wilde was an okay experience. It's certainly a bar for a certain type of crowd, and the service was lacking, but maybe we went on a bad night. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll be served better than we were.
Had an hour to kill at Penn station, walked 12 min to Oscar Wilde and what an experience. Insanely creative and expertly crafted cocktails, eclectic ambiance with multiple bars and decor that could fit any mood. And it was packed at 4:30 so vibe was perfect!
Met up with some friends for drinks for St. Patrick's day. Very festive & happening bar/restaurant. My friend made a reservation, and we got there earlier, but was called to sit quickly. The menu is a sign on a QR code on the table. Happy hour is 2-6 and just made it with minutes to spare. We wanted to order a pitcher of sangria but waitress told us they don't do pitchers. We all go single glasses instead. Drinks came out fast. They aren't overly strong. It was also a good portion. We also ordered buffalo cauliflower bites and hummus and naan. I didnt even get a chance to take a picture. Everything came out nice and hot. Very tasty, don't sleep on the food! There was also dancing and music. Can get pretty loud but all in good fun. Had a great time, try to go for happy hour!
9/30/26: (Update) Looks like "Skeletons Gone Wild" inside and outside at Oscar Wilde's! Love the holiday Halloween themed decor at Oscar's . We arrived at 4 PM. The place was packed. The hostess told us there were two seats left at the bar. So we grabbed them. It took a couple minutes to catch the bartenders attention. We ordered a specialty cocktail a "Cup of Joe" (Expresso Martini) $19 and a beer. Once we placed our order, the drinks were made quickly. My cocktail was fantastic! The bartenders really work their tails off here. Think this restaurant could use more bartenders, considering the large number of customers. Interestingly, I said the same thing from my last review in November '24. Anyway, it's always fun to stop in Oscar Wilde's to check out their holiday themed decor. read more
Came here for an after work dinner with coworkers. I was not expecting them to be ready for Halloween but how fun. they really really went all out with decorations. No inch of the restaurant was left alone. The plan was super packed so i am glad i made reservations. We got seated right away. Keep in mind the tables are high tops. Usually not an issue but i am quiet short so hanging out for a long time made my legs hurt since they dangled the whole time. This place does drinks right!!! The whole team kept getting more and more and we couldn't stop. I got their cocktail that was similar to a cosmopolitan, can't remember the name. But i could have had 15 of them. Extremely good. For dinner, for the chicken sandwich, it was ok. Nothing special. It's just a sandwich for the price, which i thought was weird. Because of how busy this place gets, i do think the service is slow. So order your drinks at once because you don't know what your waitress is going to come back. However, the drinks and food comes out quick. So you don't have to wait for that. Halloween decor in the place is really awesome and the original decor is very old and classy , I would love to go and try some food . I stopped by and sat at the bar for a few drinks , however I feel like for a place that is so busy they need more bartenders and friendlier ones too , that would be helpful . I would like to return at some point but I hope service improves a little . read more

Oscar Wilde is definitely an experience! The eclectic décor, high-energy atmosphere, loud music, and trendy bartenders make it a fun and lively spot. Unfortunately, the service was very spotty on the night we visited. Our main dishes arrived before our small plates, and then the small plates came out shortly afterward, leaving everything crammed onto our tiny table at once. Our server disappeared for quite a while, and when she finally returned and I explained what had happened, she just looked confused. I also ordered another glass of wine, but since no one had checked on us, it arrived so late that I practically had to chug it before leaving for our concert. The food was good, but not amazing. I would still return because the unique atmosphere and energetic vibe are really the main attraction. read more

As someone who has spent my entire career in hospitality, I don't impress easily-but Oscar Wilde Bar exceeded every expectation. From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the décor and ambiance. Every corner has been thoughtfully designed with incredible attention to detail, creating one of the most unique and immersive bar experiences I've ever had. The level of intention behind the design is truly second to none. The cocktails were outstanding-creative, beautifully balanced, and expertly crafted. Every drink felt purposeful and showcased real talent behind the bar. Despite the venue being absolutely packed, the service remained warm, personal, and genuinely attentive. Bartender Juan was exceptional, and manager Andrii led by example with true hospitality. I initially had a seat that wasn't ideal, and without me saying a single word, they noticed. As soon as a better seat became available, they proactively offered to move me. That simple gesture spoke volumes about their awareness and commitment to guest experience. It's easy to deliver great service when a room is half empty. It's much harder when every seat is full, and that's exactly when this team shined the brightest. Bravo to the entire Oscar Wilde Bar team, especially Juan and Andrii. Experiences like this remind me why genuine hospitality is an art. I can't wait to return. read more

I stopped into this restaurant for lunch! When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into this magical Christmas bar with many people! I was sat and ordered with Sophia and she was great! I ordered: Mrs Claus' Mulled Wine Steak & Eggs Trial by Fire Wagyu Beef Sliders Organic Grilled Chicken Shepherd's Pie My favorite were the sliders! All in all a great experience! read more

The moment you step inside, you're transported into an over-the-top Christmas wonderland--twinkling lights, vintage décor, and festive touches everywhere you look. It's impossible not to feel the holiday spirit here. The cocktails are creative and beautifully presented, and the food is just as impressive--delicious, hearty, and perfect for a cozy night out. The staff keeps the energy high and the service warm, even when the place is packed (which it usually is, for good reason!). What an incredible surprise to find Oscar Wilder on our trip to NYC! We actually saw it on Yelp but it looked like a beautiful library theme restaurant. Come to find out, they change their decorations often & always have different themes. This was the Alice & Wonderland theme! We caught about 40 mins of Happy Hour, so it was nice to order their specialty Sangria cocktails (Hudson).. it was unlike any other sangria, it was fresh, fruity, and sparkling!! Perfect combo.. The grilled chicken dinner may sound boring.. but it was perfect! The chicken had a wonderful lemony grilled taste, super soft & the veggies as well.. Just writing this, makes me want it have it again. The Truffle Arancini were a perfect appetizer cooked crispy, sauce was fresh & mozzarella just right.. and of course how can you go wrong w/ truffle fries.. Place was very well decorated. It was also pretty packed on a cold Thursday evening. I was lucky enough get a seat at the bar with my friend. Order two cocktails - both were under $20 each. Cocktails were great and we sat there in awe of the amazing picture worthy decorations, and the amount of effort put in. Definitely a conversation starter! Well done Oscar Wilde! This place gets a solid 3.5 and here's why: - a reservation is still needed - because I wanted to keep our stroller with us, we were sat in a corner that barely had decorations ... just a few gold strings of lights, a broken nutcracker next to our table - our waitress didn't offer us a high chair, but the busboy did halfway through our meal - the drinks were ok but the fries were hard and stale ... I don't know if there were fried earlier and then refried, only reason I ate the was because it was our New Year's Eve lunch The only thing I love about this place is the decor and we could take advantage of it when you walked out of the restaurant. Definitely not worth the hype and wouldn't come here again. Thank god the tip wasn't included although I always add the 20 percent. Wow! What an amazing place this is! When my daughter and I stopped in for drinks this past week, the restaurant was decorated for Halloween. When I say decorated, it's insane how crazy they made it! From the front door to the ceiling, it's amazing. Beyond Halloween though, the place has amazing decor. So much is imported from Europe and South America...including the stained glass from Milan. Check out their website for a list of it all. The bar that we sat at was beautiful. Our bartender was very friendly and they had a nice Happy Hour selection of drinks. I'll definitely be back here soon for dinner. Need to plan far in advance as it's tough getting a reservation around the holidays. read more
Oscar Wilde is absolutely gorgeous decorated for Christmas, and the line outside reflects that. When we arrived in the evening, the weekend before Christmas, there was a line down the block and a bouncer at the door enforcing 1 in, 1 out. Once inside, there was absolutely NO space to stand or sit. Every chair and bar stool was taken, and we couldn't even find somewhere *near* the bar to stand. There was no way we could even order a drink. They should have let less people in. After 10-15 minutes of wandering around aimlessly, we were about to give up and leave, but saw a couple getting up and quickly took their now-vacant barstools. We shared a drink and sat taking in the decor. Every single inch of the walls and ceiling were decorated. It was festive and cozy but somehow not cramped or cluttered feeling. I cannot fathom how they pulled that off. The drink was fine, nothing special. Prices for drinks and food were sky high. Staff were efficient and respectful as they possibly could be, in that crowd. read more

We visited Oscar Wilde during their Lunar New Year celebration, and the decorations were absolutely beautiful. The food was great, the drinks were delicious, and everything we ordered was enjoyable. The space itself is so cute and unique, with plenty to look at and a great vibe whether you're there for drinks, dinner, or a special occasion. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Between the festive decor, great food and cocktails, and excellent service, it was a memorable visit. Definitely a spot worth checking out in NYC! read more

Returned to Oscar Wilde for dinner during the holiday season and it was packed even in the middle of the week. Very lively atmosphere and very well decorated for the holidays. We started with the Crispy Calamari which was not bad and had the Wilde Wagyu Bacon Cheeseburger and Shepherd's Pie for entrees - both very good. The Tiramisu for dessert was a nice finish. Crowded and relatively tight seating but definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere and the decorations. read more
If you're coming This place instantly pulls you into a different era -- like stepping into a Jane Austen story -- and right now the whole space is transformed for Christmas. Giant ornaments, holiday trees, snow globes, reindeer, Santa, polar bears... the decorations are incredible and make the whole place feel magical. For families: make a weekend reservation and request low seating. There are a lot of high tables, so that note really helps. Service is on the slower side, but the food surprised me in the best way. The Wagyu bacon burger was thick, juicy, and came with crispy fries. The sausage had a nice char, and my buttermilk chicken and waffle was juicy inside and delicious with syrup. I also appreciated the themed bathrooms -- they even use petal foot pedals to flush, which is so much more sanitary. Oscar Wilde Seen legendary Oscar Wilde treasures such as the Irish Writers Wall, a 1840s French fireplace, and New York City's longest bar ever seen before at 118.5 feet. Awesome selection of menu, and drink best with a group gathering. Absolutely great vibe and easy-going, fun atmosphere. An amazing, impressive, elaborately designed, Victorian-Style bistro with a long marble bar for cocktails and American bites. An option weekend tea times, 11.00 pm-3.00 pm. Attention: present services are acceptable. read more

Casual dress code and walk ins are permitted but reservations are recommended because they get booked pretty often.

Yea they do! But bar seating and it's first come first serve. It does get pretty crowded so i would highly suggest making a reservation

I would say it is a healthy mix. I wouldn't go wearing sweats but you could definitely rock a dress and heels or jeans, a nice top and booties. It just depends on what you are there for!

When did you stop being a gay bar? When I started going I was told by staff it was a gay bar. Is this why you play loud 80s music? The bar is quite beautiful and is named after an openly gay man. Talk about irony...

Should be fine. There was no door person checking IDS when I went. It has a bar but also a sizable dining area. If anything just call and ask.
