I stopped by Clemente Bar with a friend who was staying at a nearby hotel. I had never been to Eleven Madison Park before and wanted to check it out, not realizing at first that Clemente Bar is a separate concept from the restaurant. We walked in without a reservation around 6:20 p.m., and they were able to accommodate us at a shared table until 7:15. The menu surprised me a bit. Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. Mine didn't taste very strong, but it also wasn't overly sweet because there was enough bitterness to balance it out. The green curry martini was more adventurous but still worked. Service was mixed. There was a woman standing near us, so we tried ordering food with her, but she seemed hesitant to come over. Maybe she wasn't a server or was newer. For drinks, she brought over someone more seasoned, who quickly helped guide us based on our preferred taste profiles. Her suggestions were very good. The mushroom burger was the highlight for me. It was a little salty, but the crispy mushroom and soft bun were a great combination. I honestly wished I had more than half. The wings were okay. They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, but coated in a Dorito-like powder that made them very messy. The Oyatsu Club is not as stiff as it appears since its base is shochu, but the Three Boxes is made with bourbon and so has a kick. Other cocktails were bright and attractive to the eye though the drinks didn't seem too boozy which is good if you're doing a crawl or have been imbibing. Booked a few weeks ahead for a Saturday night reservation in the lounge. Room is absolutely gorgeous and the drinks were great, if not as mindblowing as I wanted them to be. It is not a surprise that Clemente Bar earned its spot as one of North America's Top 50 bars! I had a blast here with their fun and unique drinks! CLARIFIED Oyatsu Club - probably one of my favs! The sweetness of the sweet potato and tea flavors of the genmaicha were subtle but present. The miso made itself known with the savory aftertaste and the shochu wasn't too strong. Negroni Colada - coconut-y with mix of vermouth, a nice combo of two classic cocktails! BOLD Clemente Martini - Clean with prominent gin flavors along with the curry spice. The cured olive was a nice little touch! Against the Grain - on the sweeter side than expected with the plantain flavors but I liked it! Three Boxes - bourbon forward but equally sweet with the pandan and cacao/chocolate-y flavors CARBONATED Sakura Heights - another fav of mine! The umeboshi cream was thick enough that you were able to simultaneously sip on both the drink and the cream. The floral cherry blossom flavor came through as did the slight tang of the ume. La Tomatina - not a huge fan of tomato so this wasn't my favorite but I appreciated the salinity. The bar is tucked away upstairs from the Eleven Madison Park dining room. The space was cute and intimate. Loved the cave art type decorations, specific lighting, and velvet seats, although some of the small stools without the back look kinda uncomfortable. Staff were friendly and respectful. The food smelled delicious but we were too full to order any snacks. Appreciated how the kitchen closes late compared to other bars. I loved the creativity in this plant based tasting menu. The studio counter is just nine seats in a hidden section upstairs above EMP, which makes for a cool experience as well as the staff explains the courses and gives you a peek behind the curtain at the preparation. Cocktail pairings are also a unique idea. Fresh and Pickled - a nice start to the meal, with fresh veggies and varied textures. The middle vegetable was super juicy, and the one on the right had a interesting layered texture. The second part was a bit different with a light and refreshing leche de tigre. The cocktail pairing was a Japanese take on a martini with apricot and yuzu pearls on the bottom. The top part pairs with the pickles, and the pearls go with the beets. I found this drink to be intense and heavily spirit forward, kind of overpowering the pickles. The pearls were texturally quite interesting and added some bitterness to match the fresh dish. Agedashi tofu - in a small hand roll. The tofu was warm and almost creamy, and the other veggies added a fragrant note. This was paired with a light and refreshing highball type cocktail with whiskey and cucumber soda. Nicely done. Poblano pepper - the skewer was grilled at the counter, with onions, mild habanada peppers, masa, and savory seitan. This was paired with a take on a margarita, with tequila, blackberry, and chartreuse. The fruit flavors played nicely against the toasty notes from the skewer. Soba - I picked the cold soba option with tomato, basil, and a gochugaru chili oil. This was also served with some togarashi and chili crisp on the side. I enjoyed the explosions of flavor from the tomatoes and the texture of the noodles. The cocktail pairing didn't quite make sense to me. All the elements share pieces with the dish - buckwheat miso, basil, etc, but the drink was way too sweet from the bourbon. It's a good idea, but missed in execution in my opinion. Sundae - honestly the most impressive course. The texture was identical to regular gelato, to where I had to double check that it wasn't made from milk. Really delicious apple crumble flavor. The ice cream and foam on top were made from lentil milk, which according to the chef, gives the best texture without distinct taste of the source ingredient. The cocktail pairing was light and sweet, coconut milk clarified, and topped with a bit of white chocolate. This was a great end to the meal. The bill came to $290. It was a cool experience, and the courses were very creative. But at these prices (and EMP's reputation) I'd have expected near perfect pairings, and a few of them missed for me. After dinner, I had one more drink at the bar next door. It was basically a martini with green curry notes. The drink was cool, but was $32 with tax and tip just by itself. While everyone fights over trying to get into Attaboy or Death and Co, waiting in long lines, trying to get off some magical list and idling for hours, I think the drinks at Clemente Bar are just as good if not better in certain categories, and reservations are much easier to get and come back. The drinks are quite innovative, though rely a bit more on the non-alcoholic parts to carry the drink, which is to be expected from a bar part of the culinary empire of EMP. Still, the drinks here are delicious and it's hard to get a replicate experience at many bars in city, just given the quality of the non-alcoholic components. Ambiance is great, like being transported to a private room in a fancy art deco building. Service was excellent and attentive, but not distracting. The truffle tart is also quite delicious, when it's on the menu definitely recommend getting it. Tasty, nutty and not too heavy on the truffle flavor. read more

I was so excited for this experience. I love everything the EMP team does and I had very high expectations. To get to the bar, you walk into the same entrance as the EMP restaurant and then check in with the hostess to let them know you're there for Clemente Bar. They'll direct you upstairs and then it's in this cool little lounge on the 2nd floor. So cool and I love how they've created the space to be cosy and lounge-y but still very artistic. Reminds me of a Frank Lloyd Wright room tbh. The drinks were fab! I had the Parakeet to start and then my friend had the Koji Cafe, and I really liked my drink but loveddd my friend's so next round I ordered that. It's like an elevated espresso martini. For food, we had the agedashi dogg and the thrice fried potatoes -- potatoes stood out to me most bc of how incredible the texture was. So crispy and crunchy on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. I consider myself a potato expert, and that was an exemplary potato. One criticism is the reservation time seemed so short -- we had an hour and 45 mins and we wanted more. But it was clear it was our time to go. read more

I was very excited to check out Clemente Bar on a short trip to NYC to watch Glengarry Glen Ross. Given its proximity and association with Eleven Madison Park, it seemed like it would be an incredible experience. When you walk inside, you are greeted by the same hostess of Eleven Madison Park. The fabled dining room of the 3 star Michelin restaurant is directly ahead of you. Clemente Bar is off to the right, up the stairs. As you pass through the darkened hallway, there is The Studio, an 8-seat food and cocktail pairing omakase experience on your left. The Lounge is at the end of the hall, where most people were seated. You can order food and cocktails there a la carte. It was at the Lounge where we had our reservation. Around 11:00pm, The Lounge was packed with well-dressed relatively young couples and groups in their 20s to 40s. The walls and decor are exceptional. Large paintings cover the burgundy walls. I started off with the La Tomatina, which was a fizzy tomato-tinged cocktail with a salty umami-dense powder brushed onto the rim of the glass. I enjoyed the light and fresh tomato flavors. I also ordered a truffle tofu dog, which was toasted and covered in nori and truffle. We were quite tired having flown into town on a cross-country redeye. So we were looking to get a second cocktail and get back to our hotel. Unfortunately it took about 20 minutes to get an order of the C.R.E.A.M., which the waitress told us required extra preparation due to it being put into the fridge for the cream to rise. Upon receiving it, I sipped it and it was not much more than a spiked horchata, if I'm being honest. Some freshly ground spices such as cinnamon might have elevated it more. With each drink being upwards of $24 and the EMP conceived dishes, they add up quickly. There is also a bit of stuffiness that I don't feel at other upscale bars. Probably because of it being upstairs from EMP. In any case, I probably would venture elsewhere next time I'm in NYC. read more

Both drinks I tried here were delicious: the apples to oranges (4/5) was lighter and citrusy but my favorite has got to be the sakura heights (5/5). It was perfectly fizzy, has a light cream on top, and was honestly like a really light cream soda drink! I would skip the food. We got the black truffle tart and honestly felt a bit scammed with what we got. Came here to catch up with a friend and we both had a lovely evening! We were so pleased with the walls, interiors and drinks. It's such a cute place for couples and friends to catch up. The cocktails are interesting. I had the espresso martini with ice cream in it. I really like quirky things like this and dessert in general so definitely up my alley. Was cold and then frothy but tasty! Love this take on an espresso martini. The fees leches was good but it's so small! That was my only disappointment. I've had the opportunity to try a decent amount of the cocktails on the Clemente Bar lounge menu as I've been there twice, once with my husband and once with a group of four. Overall, I think this is a fun way to experience Eleven Madison Park in a more casual, trendy setting and enjoy some exceptionally crafted mixology, though the drinks seemed realllllly small given the hefty price tag. (I know... it's inflation and it's Eleven Madison Park, but still, $25+ per drink is steep for a smallish pour.) Nevertheless, the drinks are all meticulously developed, and they're all pretty. Many of mine were served in rocks glasses with big, branded ice cubes with little wafers or other touches on top. Here's what I ate and drank: Avocado (sticky rice, finger lime, shiso): these little beauties comprise a spongy, tofu-like little boat filled with sticky rice and topped with avocado and finger lime, which I learned is a type of lime that looks just like caviar! The bites were topped off with a sort of sweet soy sauce flavoring. I liked them. Agedashi dogg (fried tofu, black truffle, potato roll): my favorite bite of the night. The agedashi tofu, pickles, and truffle sprinkled on top make for a great flavor combo, but the truffle oil-toasted bread was actually the highlight of the dish for me. So good. Thrice fried potatoes (rosemary, lemon, mayo): filling and economical, but these didn't do it for me otherwise. The mayo was a really heavy sauce for these already heavy fries made of super fried thick potato. I didn't notice any rosemary. Army Brat (gin, yuzu sake, acidified papaya, cashew orgeat): pretty good, though I was confused because I thought it had a pretty strong sherry taste, and with the listed ingredients it wasn't apparent where that was coming from. But I saw the full list of ingredients and it does actually have sherry! So mystery solved, but I think it's such a dominant flavor that it should be included on the menu. My favorite cocktail of the night was the Three Boxes (Bourbon, tahini, cardamaro, cacao, pandan). This is a very adult take on a Girl Scout cookie-- "adult" not just because of the alcohol but because the flavors are so sophisticated, complex, and delicate. The tahini notes are definitely present and give the drink an unexpected little kick, while there's some bitterness from the amaro. This has to be modeled after the Samoa given the little coconut-flavored meringue-like wafer. I also tried a few sips of the Koji Cafe (aged rum, raspberry eau de vie, coffee, koji cream). It was good, but honestly a little underwhelming. It sort of tasted like a raspberry espresso with some cream on top. And from my second visit: 5th Leaf (Pisco, pear brandy, smoked sunchoke, shiso): I thought this was very nice. Fruity and floral. Negroni colada (coconut rum, bitter Bianca, blanc vermouth, pineapple): another strong favorite-of-the bunch contender, this one had a lot of complex flavors that somehow worked together really well. I have been to Clemente both for The Studio experience and for the regular bar experience. The Studio experience is quite special! Only 8 people served at a time. It is $250 for a 4 course tasting menu with a different drink served in each course. It's amazing to watch the bartender prepare the drinks in front of you (especially the clarifying process!) and to see the staff preparing food in front of you as well. The experience is very interactive and all staff is personable. Daniel Humm actually stopped by during my Studio experience which was awesome. This is not a cheap meal but it is a memorable one if you can swing the price. The regular Clemente bar is equally as exciting. The drink menu is pretty extensive and everything is so interesting. You will not find regular drinks here but something a cut above. There's a drink for every palette and every mood. I honestly could sit there all night and try every single one if I had the time and the ability to handle my alcohol lol. At Clemente bar I had the burger which was really good. The fries served are pretty thick which is different for a fry but did not take away from how yummy they are! We also shared chocolate mousse for dessert that was a great sweet finish to the meal. The menu is frequently changing so you will never know what they will have to offer when you show up. I think that is part of the fun. The thing that sets Clemente bar apart from other cocktail bars is the attention to detail, the care that goes into curating the menu and the impeccable customer service. I do not know another cocktail bar with this level of service currently. The Clemente bar has a more fun, colorful aesthetic than their below sister restaurant, Eleven Madison Park. The menu, decor and drink coasters have fun stars, or just kitschy fonts. The bar is classy but with a youthful twist in its design. The Clemente bar has two bathrooms upstairs so you don't have to travel downstairs to use one if you need to. I highly recommend reservations as it seems you can't get in without them. There's a coat check available downstairs for your convenience as well. Clemente Bar is accessible via staircase but unsure if you can take an elevator to that second floor if you can't do stairs. Clemente Bar, just like EMP is fully vegan and you wouldn't even notice. You don't miss meat or dairy at all with the way the staff has curated their drinks and food. This feels like the future of dining. I have not been to EMP yet - but it's on my list. Also - if you reserve the $250 Studio experience, note that there's no refunds permitted! So once you commit, you're in! But I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

After years of dining and raving about the restaurant downstairs. I was eager to try the Clemente Bar upstairs. Unfortunately I was thrown out by Sebastian in on March 2nd. At first, I thought it was some sort of joke and I was being punked. Immediately after serving my dessert and coffee before I could even get a bite in, we were told we had to get out that they had an event coming up and needed to move some chairs around. We laughed and said we'll make it quick but Sebastian demanded we leave immediately. I have one suggestion don't push the dessert and then ask the guests to leave before they even taste it and have paid for it. I was super excited to try this place after seeing it ranked on the World's Top 50 Bars list. I was able to walk in on a Sunday evening around 7 PM without a reservation and get seated right away. The ambiance is truly something special. It is elegant, intimate, and artfully designed with works by Francesco Clemente, whom the bar is named after. In terms of atmosphere, it's easily one of the best lounge-style bars I've been to in New York and I've been to quite a few, so that's saying something. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best luck with my drink choices. I visited with my stepmom, who ordered the Songbird and the Parakeet both were bright, refreshing, and impressively unique. I really enjoyed the sips I had of hers. On the other hand, I ordered the Espresso Martini Float and the Sakura Heights, and both were disappointing. The Espresso Martini Float wasn't really a float. It was more like a bitter, overly sweet espresso milkshake. I kept hoping it would evolve as I sipped, but it was a muddled, cloying, slushy mix of cherry ice cream with real cherries and bitterness with none of the layered balance I expected. As for the Sakura Heights... I genuinely think this drink should be taken off the menu. The cream had a strange, almost synthetic taste I couldn't place until a guy sitting nearby asked me, "Does it taste like Play-Doh to you?" And yes, that's exactly it. Once he said it, I couldn't taste anything else. It was oddly plasticky and just unpleasant. That said, I would still come back. The bar itself is excellent, the service was good, and clearly there are great drinks on the menu - I just happened to pick the wrong ones. I'd return and try something like the Negroni Colada, which the guy next to me raved about. Overall, Clemente is worth visiting for the experience and ambiance alone. Just skip the Sakura Heights. Pinkies up! Went to Clemente Bar as a precursor before dinner at Cote. You check in with the host on the main floor of Eleven Madison and then eventually are told when your party is able to head upstairs. We got sat at a communal couch and had service right away. Small, obviously beautifully outfitted space overlooking the dining room of the main restaurant. Knowing this was a collaboration to highlight the artist Francesco Clemente - I took some time to take that in, especially the large piece behind the bar. Elegant yet friendly service from a team of hosts (downstairs) and bartenders (upstairs), led by Wilbur. The drinks are creative and well-balanced, and the plant-based food options, while pricey, are delicious. DO NOT miss the Thrice Fried "tempura" Potatoes! Sadly, the popular tofu-and-black-truffle hot dog is no longer on the menu. Recommend making a reservation for the tall bar seats rather than the uncomfortably low couches and "stools" in the living room-like area in the small space. Also, for a quieter experience (not sure why most bars -- even elegant lounges -- have to play music so loudly!), try to arrive when they open at 5 PM. read more

Beautiful bar with amazing service. Even though it's linked to Eleven Madison Park the prices for the drinks were pretty reasonable, at around $24/25 a drink. They also serve small plant based bites. Overall really liked this spot! read more

This bar is tucked upstairs at Eleven Madison park and is a super chic location. The cocktails are delicious and they think about presentation all the way down to the stamped ice. The food however was just okay. The avocado spring rolls were very good but the play on caviar didn't have a ton of flavor and was very acidic. read more

So timely, we watched a @youtube video by @forbes featuring @theclementebar the night before we went. Very artsy and intimate, @theclementebar is directly above @elevenmadisonpark A fully plant-based bar and lounge with absolutely incredible cocktails. My husband really enjoyed the Army Brat. I was completely blown away by Sakura Heights. Service was 100% on point. Prices are super reasonable for NYC. A highly recommended spot to check out!
