We were visiting from out of town and this spot had the atmosphere we were looking for: classic aesthetic, a good crowd but plenty of space, and a DJ playing fun music. We will never come back for happy hour again since we had a really disappointing experience here. I came here with coworkers and the bar completely mixed up our drinks. they gave me a martini instead of the mocktail I ordered. After just a few sips, I started feeling hot and dizzy, so I stopped drinking and ended up leaving early because I felt unwell. On top of that, I ended up feeling sick for days after accidentally drinking the wrong drink as my body was very sensitive to alcohol. Later, when my coworkers checked the bill, they found out our drinks were mixed up. One of them had actually ordered several rounds of martinis, but the bar charged her for the more expensive mocktails instead. When they brought it up, the staff was unapologetic and implied my coworker didn't know what a martini glass looks like (in fact both the mocktail and martini looked extremely similar as they were both pink in color). They later talked to the manager, who claimed they reviewed camera footage and said we "drank" the drinks. After pushing back, they agreed to refund two of the incorrectly charged mocktails. Mixing up alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks isn't a small mistake, and the staff was rude and unprofessional. read more

The French fries were floppy and had no flavor, the Calamari needs regular marinara sauce - not a sweet tangy mixture. The chicken wings were ok but too small. The only thing we liked were the drinks. Also we were seated by the window and it was FREEZING there! Why wouldn't they insulate the window area where patrons are going to eat and enjoy the evening! Stopped at the Juniper Bar for drinks on our way to a concert in Times Square. Right off 7th Ave and only a block from Penn Station, this was the perfect pit stop! We sat at the bar and had a few cocktails and we're happy to hear it was still happy hour (HH is 4-7pm everyday!) Both of us tried the Ivy Martini and shared the calamari along with the Chicken Parm sliders. I normally wouldn't order chicken when I go out but the sliders were delish! My friend and I came here for drinks and apps before the Lady Gaga concert last night. It is a great spot to go before seeing a show/event at MSG! I would definitely recommend getting a reservation since there were a lot of people there to pre-game before the concert. We sat at a high top and got seated right away! Happy hour was going on so we decided to get the Ivy Martini. It is sort of like a cosmo with pineapple juice. We both liked it! For food, we split the mediterranean flatbread and buffalo chicken dumplings. The buffalo chicken dumplings were delish, but small for the price and could have been warmer. The flatbread was actually on pretty thick bread which was strange. Again this was just ok. The service was great and they were good about getting us served quickly since we said we were going to the concert. Next time, I would probably just do drinks here! read more

Just unearthed a receipt from my visit to the Juniper Bar in October. I saved it this whole time because I didn't want to forget to leave a review! Came here with a group of friends to pregame before going out to dance and the vibes were immaculate. Shout-out to Lucas S, the bartender at the time who was super chill and pleasant. He made me the most interesting off-the-menu cocktail with mezcal; sometimes I like a change, so quite an experience. My friend also guessed he was trying to get his modelling career going because "LOOK AT HIM". So, I hope that's going well, Lucas. I would definitely pop back in again for some more interesting drinks, more fries (because I kept eating all my friends') and to try some of that lobster stuff off the menu. Next time! read more

I came here for the first time on Halloween before the Duran Duran MSG show. A Duran Duran Facebook group my friend is in had a party in the downstairs area just for people going to the show. I asked where it was to the hostess when we got there and they kindly showed us the way downstairs. The space downstairs is really adorable. It's a decent size with a few tables, but mostly seating at the bar. I have to add that the bar stools they had were the most comfortable ones I ever sat my bum in! Not too high for a 5'5" shortie like myself so I didn't have to climb onto it. The seat was a soft texture and had a cozy indentation for your butt. I could have sat in it for hours. Juniper Bar did an amazing job with the special cocktail menu named after Duran songs. The prices were pretty average for a NYC bar, bordering on inexpensive for Manhattan. I wish I knew the name of the bartender at our side of the bar. A male with long hair pulled into a ponytail. It was insanely busy most of the time we were down there and he worked like a champ! A friend was in town for work and wanted to meet for a drink before she hopped the Amtrak back to Baltimore, so I needed to find a clean, well-lighted place because a lot of the bars near Penn Station skew to the sketchier side of things. Yelp helped me pinpoint Juniper and it was a rousing success. The space is very open and well appointed. It felt comfortable and inviting. Service was very good as well. I was pleased with my Old Fashioned...it was really great and there was a chocolate truffle on the toothpick with the cherry that was a delightful treat! I ordered some steak tacos, which had nice flavor but the meat was a bit tough and hard to chew. If I'd used a fork and knife, I would have enjoyed them more. I also got some fries which came with a variety of dipping sauces...all very tasty. We got their early (around 4) and they wanted the table back by 5:30 since we didn't have a reservation. I found myself at Juniper Bar for drinks and apps before attending a concert at Madison Square Garden. I'm not too familiar with food options in this area of the city, but luckily my friend is so she recommended we stop here. I was open to anything, so off we went. Walking in, Juniper was giving typical Midtown vibes - it's a large space with high ceilings and a modernish aesthetic. A large bar serves as a focal point, and there are several high tops in the main dining area to sit and eat. I'm inferring that this is a popular spot for pre-post events at MSG - I could tell the majority of people here were going to the same concert I was, and the large space can accommodate a decent crowd. The menu is mostly American fare and there's a selection of apps, salads, tacos, sandwiches, wraps, and mains. Before food, we decided to get some drinks - I got the warm spiked cider which was quite good; it had great flavor, wasn't too strong, and was perfect for such a cold night. We decided to keep food light-ish (emphasis on ish) and split some apps: shrimp tostadas, mahi mahi tacos, and two orders of sliders: beef and salmon. By far my favorite item we ordered were the salmon sliders - they were hearty and paired with a tasty slaw and aioli; the beef sliders were also a standout. We paired them with regular and sweet potato fries - both were good but I was impressed with the sweet potato ones; I'm usually not a fan of sweet potato fries due to the mushiness but these actually held their integrity. The tostada and tacos were pretty good, but more on the average side. Service was good, food came out fast and everyone was friendly. My only feedback was that they didn't come around to regularly ask if we wanted water, but in the grand scheme of things it was a small hiccup. Overall, I had a great time at Juniper Bar - the food was good it was the ideal place to relax before heading to MSG. I would definitely return if given the opportunity. read more

We needed a spot close to the Garden before seeing the Queen of Christmas herself, Mariah Carey. Being a very touristy part of Manhattan, it's tough to find a good spot that's not too overpriced for what's being offered. After a quick Yelp search I knew where we had to go. Cue Juniper Bar. Reservations were made very easy for a group of 8 by a quick phone call. We were able to be seated without our full party present which was a God send because we were all coming from different areas with different arrival times. Our server handled our large party with ease. Even gave me the recommendation of the Skirt Steak Wrap and he was spot on. The menu itself looked amazing and I was actually deciding between to other options but our server swayed me. And boy was he right! What solidified this 5 star review is I asked the server for extra aioli on the side. He told me a runner would bring it out but they didn't. He ended up following up and when he realized I didn't get it he personally got it himself. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium. The aioli was amazing. The sweet potato fries were on point. This and every other dish on the table was a winner. The place itself was lively and a great vibe. Waiting on the next concert to go back and explore the other items I was eyeing on the menu. Had dinner here with a group of friends on a recent trip to the city. It was so-so. Not bad but not amazing. Kind of forgettable, really. They did their best for a bigger table on a busy night. Juniper shocked me !! We came to try a chicken spot but changed our mind once we stepped out of Penn station. We got on yelp and saw Juniper was close. OMG let's start by how attentive they are. We walked in and the table we were sat at had stools. Since we wanted back support we mentioned we didn't want to sit there and they change us to seats that had just that. So quick and easy no fuss. Then we met our waiter Adam which kindly gave us time to search the menu. During all my interacting I end up speaking about the restaurant and how pleasant everyone has been so far. Even when we went to the bathroom and passed by the downstairs bar we interacted with the bartender Gerald instantly. His vibe made me promise to get a shot before we left. Back at our seats I mention that interaction to Adam and a guy in a white she over hears me. come to find out his name is Braily and he's the manager. He was sooo glad we were enjoying the restaurant. Our food came out and I must say It was all very tasty. I order trout with potatoes on a green sauce. Bomb flavoring. The habanero wings were just right. I prefer more crispy wings these were almost there. My friend order the Bug blue burger which she wasn't able to eat and we brought it home because she got full off the huge onion but TASTY onion rings on top of the burger. Tempura breading on the onion rings made them soft and flaky. I must say I was completely shocked at how amazing this restaurant was and I didn't even plan to stop by.
