We had a great corner spot and had lots of space to store bags (gotta love a commuter gaggle of 10+ women). We had Aiden as our server and he was super prompt and was very attentive. While we waited for the second half of our group to arrive, Aiden took our drink orders. There were a few Happy Hour specials for drinks (none for food) and we opted for a mix of those offerings. The wine was rumored to be... a bit flat, but our cocktails (a mix of sangria, margaritas, etc) were lovely. After a drink, we did pick up both the flatbread options, the kale and artichoke dip, and the eggrolls. I wasn't able to catch an eggroll but I heard they were tasty. This place can best be described as being like a nicer looking pub. It was not too crowded on a Sunday night and had a younger crowd. I came with a small bunch of friends and we definitely liked the laid back vibe here. It is relatively spacious and can easily accommodate groups of people. The food was very good as well. Their burgers are very juicy and very big. The hand cut fries were delicious too. I recommend coming during their happy hour. Cost effective happy hour near LIRR Penn Station? Never thought I'd find a place. And takes reservations too. Needed a place to meet my friends scattered throughout midtown, coming in from Long Island and other parts of Manhattan. Very cost friendly happy hour drinks deal, oysters, and a good selection of appetizers. I enjoyed my red sangria and Hamachi Tartare. Vietnamese wings was overloaded with sauce and good bbq brisk taste. The espresso martini was a bit weak on the caffeine side but everything came out great. We were looking for a restaurant to stop at before the Islanders game yesterday, so we came here for food and drinks. Since it was happy hour, we all started off with some Ivy Martinis. Although it was delicious, it didn't taste like there was much alcohol in it. We also split the cheese steak egg rolls, mediterranean flatbread (with prosciutto added on), steak tacos, and mini cheeseburger sliders. Everything was so good, but I wasn't too crazy about the tacos because the steak was a little too chewy for my liking. The egg rolls and flatbread were by far my favorite. We knew it would be slim pickings on a Sunday. After a quick yelp search I was happy to find Juniper Bar was 2 blocks from the restaurant we were at. As we walked in, the hostess greeted us. We opted to sit at the bar. The place was clean, beautifully and festively decorated. It wasn't super loud, there was a lively energy that could be felt. There's a downstairs area, I'm guessing with more seating. They do serve food. The bathrooms are in the back and my friend said they were very clean. The long bar to the right was almost filled with patrons. But we were able to snag two seats. There were hightop two seaters along the left. More seating in the back with more guest. We were greeted by one of the many bartenders and given menus. Glasses of water, shortly after. I like that there were hooks for your bag and outlets to charge your phone. I needed to utilize both. Happy hour has 3 cocktails from their regular menu, wine, hard seltzer and beer. The 3 cocktails were $10 for HH regularly priced at $16. The wine was $9, beer and hard seltzer $7. I got the bohemian rhapsody it was well balanced, delicious and refreshing. You can't go wrong with gin, st. Germain, lemon, cucumber and tonic. My bestie got the ivy martini. It contained pineapple infused vodka, triple sec, lime juice, cranberry juice and sour mix. It honestly reminded me of a cosmopolitan with pineapple. I don't recall what the house rosé was. But it was decent. I tried the smoked midtown manhattan which was rye whisky, carpano, amaro and black walnut bitters. I used to be a whisky girl and manhattan was my drink of choice. This was well done. They smoke it right before serving and that really indulged the senses. The only thing missing was a cigar. lol. If you're into whisky and that flavor profile it's definitely for you. This was the most expensive cocktail on the menu priced at $17. The worst drink we had was the strawberry tequila spritz. It tasted mostly of tequila and the Prosecco must have been flat because there was no fizz. The only strawberry aspect was the strawberries sliced up in the glass, which tasted like nothing. It's not strawberry season so they should rethink that one. Apple cider or cranberry berry would've worked better. Or making a syrup with the fruit. Tequila, strawberry, lemon, agave and Prosecco was the components. Overall we had a great time. I liked that anybody behind the bar could be asked to make the drink. With no hassle. They were very attentive but not pushy. By the time our glasses were empty someone was inquiring if we wanted a refill. With tax and tip we spent total $115. The atmosphere and ambiance was good at first glance and when you walk in. But on the weekend is a bad date to go in the evening. I showed up during a cold weekend evening with a friend to grab some dinner, to which we were left stranded in the entrance area with no help or host in sight this was a good 8 minutes (i counted it). Was told by two passing in transit waitstaff that the host would be with us in a moment. The host finally shows up, there are at least 3 other sets of people who arrived after us waiting to be let in and seated. I overheard behind us say they didnt have a reservation and another one had a reservation. The host asked our last name, I kindly stated we didnt have to a chance to fill out a reservation, he rudely told us to step to the side in a very snarky tone, then he spoke in a nicer tone to the people behind us, to which my companion and I left because that stark difference in treatment is not what I am accustomed to. I was looking forward to enjoying this experience like the other positive reviews but unfortunately that left a sour taste in my mouth that moving forward, whenever I am in the midtown west 30s area, I will avoid Juniper Bar completely and go elsewhere. Restaurant was crowded and pretty loud. Food and service was great. The issue I had was that when I booked the reservation I selected dining room thinking we would be at a table. We arrived and they put us at a high top with bar stools. I asked about it and they said you need to be more specific saying back dining room? There was two tables of two next to each other open. I asked if we could move and they said no we can't move you. Meanwhile they looked open while we ate.
