Good spot for a weekday happy hour. Close to Penn Station. We stopped by around 5pm on a Friday evening and we're seated at a booth in the back area. It's one of the nicer bars in the area where most are sports & beer joints. HH is 4-7pm and they have a few drinks ranging from vodka soda cans ($5) to some cocktails ($16). As shareable items we got a kale salad, polenta fries, truffle fries, and 3 tacos. The tacos were kinda dry and bland. Prolly needed salsa. Fries were decent. Kale salad was okay and a big portion size. This was plenty for 3! Can't believe we spent 3 hours there! No one rushed us out, which was nice. The only issue was staff wasn't super attentive. Literally had to wave every time we needed something. No one checked on us. This is a large space with bar seating, high tables, and fancier booth/table seating in the back. Unfortunately this is the worst place we ate at while in NYC as the ambiance is the only thing this place has going for it. We started off with calamari & the breading was unseasoned, but the dipping sauce was good to help mask! I opted for the truffle burger & thought it was possibly the most bland burger I've ever eaten... I could not taste truffle (or really anything). Went to the Junioer Bar before seeing Billy Joel. Great atmosphere and great service. We sat at the bar as usual. We ordered the Ivy Martini because it was in their happy hour menu. Delicious! We shared the Chipotle Steamed Mussels, steak tacos and surf and turf sliders. The server first brought out the wrong sliders which was not a big deal. They corrected that immediately. The mussels were delicious. Perfectly cooked but definitely needed more bread for soaking up the delicious sauce. The tacos were good, they needed more spice or something. But still yummy. Immediately upon entering we were pleasantly greeted by the host. We were seated at a table up the stairs, which was quieter but still definitely could hear the great music and feel the amazing energy of the place. We were quickly greeted by the server, the service never skipped a beat, it was perfect, accommodating, and very friendly. The decor was really nice, everything worked really well together and was very comfortable while classy. The glasses, flatware, and dishes are higher quality. The food preparation was on point. We had the cheese steak egg rolls, which were the best I've ever had, crispy, and the sauces on the plate made it sing! Then I had a burger and I ordered it with the mixed greens instead of fries. The burger was cooked perfectly as requested, it was juicy and seasoned well. It was perfect. When it arrived it was paired with fries instead of the mixed greens, not a problem, they left me with my food as delivered and quickly brought out the mixed greens. The greens were so fresh, dressed very lightly in an absolutely amazing peach champagne vinaigrette. My dining partner had the steak frites and again...high quality, cooked perfectly, and the fries were amazing too. It was extremely loud and hot, so my friend and I had trouble hearing each other at our table, even though we were seated in the back and further away from the bar. They have a few happy hour cocktails for $10 which are tasty, but really weak liquor-wise- I had 3 and barely felt anything. The kale and artichoke dip is delicious, super thick and cheesy! The Mediterranean flatbread was also a great pick. Super spot for a happy hour after work or for meeting up with friends. Juniper has a private party room that you can opt for, if you have a particular plan in mind. If you are hosting under 10 people, be sure to reserve their booth seating in the rear of the restaurant. The decor is wonderful with red oak wood tones and dim lighting. The staff is very friendly and keep the night's fun flowing. Friends and I went, all arriving at different times. The bartender had no problem keeping track of all of our tabs without a hitch. Happy hour specials, which only apply to beverages, were limited but good. Appetizers and entrees have prices on par for the area but are fairly proportioned so you can really fill up. We tried the wings, short rib mac and cheese, cheesesteak spring rolls, cheese burger, and the truffle fries. I would definitely recommend the mac and cheese, burger and the beet and cucumber gin based happy hour drink. The bathroom is spotless and easily accessible, although it'd be nice if they had more of them. Overall, a great time with reasonable prices and I would return again when in the area. read more

Came here for Happy hour drinks and apps with friends. The Hostesses at the entrance were friendly and welcoming. Had a couple cocktails which were really good - strong but refreshing with the beet - cucumber gin. The apps were ok, I started with the Cheesesteak spring rolls. It wasn't too bad, I feel like they could've been a bit more meaty and didn't taste the honey mustard, but they were hot, filling and shareable - comes with four. I also had some of the Vietnamese wings which had a nice flavor but for their price they were just ok. They were a decent size however also making them a decent shareable app. My friend complained her truffle fries weren't very "truffley" which didn't seem to be the case to me, but I think this once again comes back to price. The Happy Hour is nice, but the apps too me are bit high, but this could just be me any familiar shock with the NY prices, save for the Happy Hour drinks. Still, this was a nice hang out. The inside is nice and spacious with bar, tables and room to walk in between. This includes intimate tables and group tables. Dim, but not divey with a welcoming staff from what I saw. Juniper Bar is a pleasant find in the Penn Station area. Upon a keyword search, it came up for good happy hour and food. Pictures on the internet displayed it more upscale than it looked in person, but it was a very cute, cozy restaurant in terms of decor. We made 6:30 reservations for dinner thinking we would have our happy hour drinks at the bar. The cool part was that happy hour (until 7 pm) was honored at tables as well. Select wine was $6 while other specials were various prices. The place was packed when we arrived; however, solid 80s music kept us entertained and nearly wanting to dance as we drank our wine and waited for 6:30. Be forwarned: music and noise level was quite loud. The windows were opened to accommodate the Spring like weather and it was not long until we were shown to our table. There were some good selections on the menu. My friend selected the veggie burger and a asked for truffle fries in place of the regular ones. No extra charge. I chose the tuna wrap. Delicious fresh tuna prepared especially well in a wrap. Lots of good flavors going on. I could have chosen salad as my side but settled on the standard fries, eating every last drop. Very good. All of it I really enjoyed my first time visit at Juniper this evening. Great music, atmosphere, service and food. All at reasonable prices. Who could ask for anything more? read more

Stopped by this joint for a quick HH with friends and it didn't disappoint. Can't really screw up beer from the tap, wine from the bottle, or a fancy cocktail they've been making for years. Environment was chill until HH came along. Our conversation went from low toned to having to scream at one another because DJ Paul D (not) was up in his perch blaring his tunes. Didn't really hate it, BUT I was trying to catch up with old friends. I can imagine it was very similar to those around me. We weren't starving, so we ordered the yucca fries and regular fries. I think we visited on a chill, Sunday afternoon because the restaurant was pretty empty. I will say that I really enjoyed myself at Juniper Bar. Also, the bar has a week-long happy hour with drink prices ranging from $6-$8. During my visit, the bar had an cucumber- and beet-infused gin as one of the speciality beverages. Since we were going to have dinner at another place, we ordered a couple of small bites - the artichoke dip and the calamari. The calamari, and the sweet and sour sauce, was out of this world delicious. The calamari was lightly fried and the breading did not taste like it was fried in old grease. The dip was a bowl of creamy goodness. As you can tell, I was a fan of both. With the amount of folks that work in the area, I would recommend coming on an early weekend afternoon if you want a laid back experience. read more

We stopped in before a game at MSG and everything was fantastic!!! We were able to grab seats at the bar, with Michael as the bartender. He was so friendly and accommodating, and made the most delicious drinks! Also gave great food recs! I would definitely recommend the Ivy Martini and the Duck Fat Tater Tots! Honestly, I'm not satisfied with that outcome since I don't think they were open to the possibility that this happened within their establishment, which is frustrating. I visited this bar on 12/9/22 and I believe one of the employees stole my card information as there is fraud on my card and it just so happened to start 10 minutes after they ran the charge for my lunch. Ordered: - Steak Tacos ($18) - was okay, but wouldn't recommend. Comes with 3 tacos, with steak strips, bell peppers and onions and then guac and salsa verde on the side. The steak was slightly tough, compared to the rest of the food we ordered, it didn't live up to the expectations. (3/5 rating) - Sweet & Spicy Calamari ($14) - absolutely delicious! Loved the sweet and spicy sauce drizzled on the squid. Never had fried calamari served with a peanut sauce, but this worked together so well. Loved that it was a different twist/asian-inspired spin on the classic, more western style fried calamari and marinara sauce. Definitely must get this as an appetizer for the table. (5/5 rating) - Lobster Mac n Cheese ($22) - underwhelming honestly, looks great, but the portion is pretty small. Lobster didn't taste that fresh, and overall, didn't meet expectations. Rather order a cheaper appetizer (like another plate of calamari!) than this next time. (3/5 rating) - Chipotle burger with fries ($19) - highly recommend! It's a massive "big boy" burger loaded with lots of chips, bacon and more. Perfectly cooked, and very juicy and flavorful. I had a spontaneous lunch here with some coworkers and it was a great experience. We came around 12 which was perfect because when we left around 1:30, more people started packing the place. Very nice ambience and decor. I went for their chipotle steamed mussels, fried zucchini, and grilled Bronzino. The mussels were great and a very generous portion. The fried zucchini's were also interesting and I would definitely go for that if you're unsure of an appetizer. It was a happy surprise for me. Although it was fried, it wasn't dripping of oil and had a nice balance of crunchy and softness to it. I especially loved the grilled Bronzino, although one part of the fish did seem more charred. While not pictured, I also had an Ivy Martini which was very smooth and subtle with the vodka. Definitely would recommend that drink. I dunno. We went for Happy Hour and got there at about 5:00. Tons of tables but the hostess told us we couldn't sit at a table because they were all reserved (about 3 of 12 tables had "reserved" signs on them). The server in the back raised area offered my son a table back there as I was trying to negotiate with the hostess. I saw him move so I went to join him. The hostess came over, I told her what had happened and she said it was fine, as long as she could have the table for 7:30 res...yes, 2 hours later. Our server was phenomenal and cheerful, attentive and kind, all while juggling a very busy happy hour. HH cocktails had basically no alcohol so...only had one of those glasses of disappointment, then "had to" order a real cocktail after that. Very limited HH food choices. I won't be coming back. I just really don't like Juniper. But, it's not for a lack of trying. Both times we've been, the food's been disappointing, the service has been disappointing, and I find myself, on both occasions asking myself, what made you come here to begin with. The first time we came was back in January. And, I can blame that entirely on my husband. His BFF was in for a few days. They are both foodies, so Jayson lined up a series of places he spent time seeking out, that he thought would be fun, and a little bit on the gourmet side. How he landed on Juniper, I still don't know. We came for dinner on a Friday night before the theater, which if you've ever been to Juniper, is not the thing to do. They get a pretty loud and boisterous after work crowd (maybe it was happy hour, I don't know. We don't drink.) The place was packed. And not like a busy packed, but a really uncomfortable, loud and drunk people are bumping into me, and can you find our waiter, kind of packed, at 6 p.m. We ordered a half a dozen appetizers. They're all kind of forgettable. The food was good-ish, I think. Jayson seems to remember us all hating it. But, it wasn't really how it was described on here or their site. They're one of those trendy places that tries to make themselves seem worthy of three $$$, with trendy-ish sounding options, but then you get it and think, "Is this Applebees?" It wasn't that good. What really kind of annoyed me is that this huge restaurant/bar, which clearly gets packed, has ONE bathroom for hundreds of people. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I was trying to find a brunch spot. The previous two Sundays were epic fails, and I was determined to get Jayson a good Lobster Benedict. Now, I should say, I take the blame here. Because when we got there, and I looked at the menu, and that at noon on a Sunday, they are completely dead, I had us leave and go elsewhere. But, half way down the block, we somehow rationalized going back. For starters. There were two tables. One was pretty much midway through. Our waitress, for the most part, just stayed down by the bar talking to the hostess and the bar guy. We waited 15 minutes to order. It was pretty much consistent like that the entire time. We could see our waitress 150 feet away, but she didn't seem all that interested in waitressing. Seriously, I"m not sure what was going on, but she was disinterested and didn't check on us or anything. It was really irksome. The food was okay. It's not the worst, but not the best. Jayson described his Lobster Benedict, which he's been craving, as bland and tasteless. My burger was okay. But she brought me fries, when I asked for a salad. Then she brought the salad when we were done. But, she then charged us for it, even though it was supposed to come with it. Jayson asked to take it off. She did. Again, by the time we left, a third table was sat. A couple. The other table had gone. So there was only two, two tops. And still, she was preoccupied and not up where any of us were. I can't see going back. If I did drink, I don't see going back. I don't think I could get drunk enough to forget all the other stuff. read more

Went to the 35th Street location for dinner. As I took a sip of the ivy martini to my surprise there was an unwanted garnish (a hair) in my mouth from the drink. Not to mentioned I ordered veggie tacos for dinner. Another surprise! There they were 3 mini tacos on my plate, the size of my thumb. The menu should have mentioned they were mini tacos. As a vegan that was the only item on the menu available as per the server, he didn't even mention there size, all he said was that it came with three. Yet all 3 is equal to one regular size taco. Not to mention the menu was quite misleading. I brought this to the servers attention. I left hungry and wound up at another restaurant across the street where their appetizer was larger and much more filling then the tacos I had here. My advice if you are looking to satisfy your hunger this is not the place. read more

I wanted brunch but was never given the brunch menu so that was the only bummer. They menu at juniper has great selections. I had the Brussels sprouts and the lobster Club sandwich. Both were amazing. The sprouts were nice and crispy with bacon. Yum!!!! And the sandwich had a very generous Amount of lobster meat on it. All and all this was a great dining experience for lunch.
