I will never set foot in this place again. Bartender that called himself "Jimmy" was incredibly creepy and disgusting. Made me feel extremely uncomfortable. He was leering at me and making inappropriate comments that made me nauseous. Guy was old enough to be my Dad. Pretty sure he was sneaking pics of me too with his phone. I was waiting for my friend to arrive before going to see a show and ordered a neat scotch and an Allagash White when I sat down. He gives me a look and tells me I "drink like a man". Then made other comments questioning my sexuality. Total misogynistic predator creep. I didn't finish the scotch because I know what Macallan tastes like and that crap he poured me was like Costco booze. Then I worried whether or not he put something fishy in my glass. I couldn't settle the tab and get out of there fast enough. Our plan was to eat there when my friend finally arrived, but f that. Ended up meeting her at the pizza place a few blocks away. Thinking of this dude literally makes my skin crawl. I'm not one to write reviews often, but he shouldn't get away with that behavior. The Hatmaker is such a fun local bar and food spot before an event at MSG. They do a fun Phish menu when the band is in town, the staff is amazing, the beer selection is solid, and the food is delicious. It's a little tight inside, but it's nicely decorated. Definitely check them out! read more

There was another couple at the bar and a local chatting with the bartender, so the vibe was low-key and relaxed. They had great beer selections, and the apps definitely delivered. We were a bit hungry after an early morning of travel, and yes, we finished everything we ordered. While it's probably not a spot we'd actively seek out on future visits (we come to NYC 3-4 times a year), it served its purpose perfectly that day. Deviled Eggs (5/5): These were beautifully piped deviled eggs and the filling itself had this toothsome tang and flavor to die for. Potato cauliflower croquets (5/5): This melt-in-your-mouth shareable made me feel healthy (shoutout to cauliflower) but in reality this was just so tasty I would order it every time. The dish has a delegate breading and a filling that melts like butter when you bite in. Pork Ribs (4/5): Solid pork ribs. Obviously this isn't a BBQ place so it's not the world's best. I found this mildly over-cooked/dry at parts but everywhere else it was falling off the bone. Loved the mini salad it came with though! Drinks (5/5): An increíble selection of beers, cocktails and non alcoholic beverages! Ambiance (4/5): Love the wood flooring and accents, and dimmable lighting throughout. Anyway, we grabbed some menus, and I was very impressed by their cocktail, wine, and beer lists, which were vast and diverse. I decided to go for the Spicy Pineapple Margarita, which was a very potent blend of Pueblo Viejo Tequila, fresh pineapple, Fresno pepper, and lime. We split a few plates: the sweet chili wings were amazing and the perfect level of sauce to wing ratio, definitely living up to the hype. We were HUGE fans of the buffalo chicken flatbread - the chicken was delicious, and the blue cheese as the "sauce" on the flatbread brought everything together so well. The nachos were a bit soggy from the amount of toppings out in them, but I can't complain about too many toppings when all too often the problem with nachos is not enough. And the fries were delicious - but they are thick cut so won't be super crispy, so if that's a deal breaker for you, be forewarned. Will definitely be back here before events at MSG again! read more

Looking for a good restaurant in this neighborhood is like looking for a needle in a haystack. And as the name suggests...they're just making more hay and no needle was found. I'll keep searching. Walked in after work with a friend and we made our way towards the back where the tables are. After 3-5 mins of standing around a lady scolded us and said we had to go stand at the host stand. Mind you it's tucked into a corner out of sight and nobody had been standing at it the entire time. A server eventually came to see us and begrudgingly got us a table down the side hall and into the back room, where there were easily 8+ extra tables. My dining mate doesn't drink, so asked whether they had mocktails. They do not, so she orders a soda. But the server offers a wide selection of juices. Sticks with the soda. But we can make a juice mix, what kind of mix would you like? To solve things my friend settles on anything tropical flavored with pineapple base. What comes out? A drink that is most grapefruit juice, a very specific and strong flavor for somebody who wanted pineapple. After chatting with the server she dumps it into a larger glass and simply had more pineapple added. Lesson learned, don't agree to make things up on the fly, come prepared with your own drink menu, or just stick to the soda you wanted anyway. The food was decent, albeit the portions are smaller than you expect. Order 1-2 extra items to be sure. The asparagus flatbread has a pretty kicky feta and asparagus taste. The jackfruit sliders are tasty but mostly bun and very little filling. The roasted cauliflower needed another minute or two to cook, but was mixed with a variety of other flavors to punch it up a notch. We had space for dessert but were disappointed to find out they don't serve dessert and went elsewhere. The Brussels were kinda soggy from the sauce but had a good flavor and the blue cheese wasn't too overpowering. I got the Cauliflower dish, it was just ok. My cousin got the chicken confit and as shown we were very worried if it was cooked or not, it was cooked through but wasn't golden brown like a confit should be. They do a funny thing where they say a big group is arriving and the front is reserved, but on 3 occasions we have watched while no one has arrived and the space sat unused..this was over the past few years, perhaps it has changed. Later it seemed these parties "did not show up" Last time we were there it was still cash only, for cocktails that are very pricey and undersized...if you are cash only, include the tax since we know it there is no paper trail...odd service on 2 occasions, a very rude woman bartending.. "Lou" (spelling) the bartender is very friendly and she had no problem answering our food and beer questions. She even went through the extra effort of trying to get the Eagles game on the tv for us. I had the double smash burger with bacon and it was A+. Friends had the chicken sandwich and also loved it. It was a tap takeover, so most of the beers were either tilted barn or Lawson's but they also had equilibrium, Hill farmstead, and other world class breweries available. NYC prices are sticker shock and that is ever the case here with 16oz IPA's going for $10. They serve at a "half pour" here at 12oz which amounts to $8. We came in at an odd time on a weekday, but were met with a steady flow of patrons. The bartender manning the fort at the time did so on a solo endeavor and was such a warrior, attending to each and every patron in a timely manner. I needed a quick bite after being stuck in horrible NYC traffic and stopped in to try this spot out. It's a pretty simple clean cut location with a long bar, quiet as there was only one other customer at the time but that was more so due to the time of day. The food menu wasn't super extensive overall but even so had a wide range of options like deviled eggs, prosciutto flatbreads, chicken satay, tacos, and a few different sandwich options as well. As far as drinks they seem to specialize in craft beers given the variety of options on the menu but they also have a few wine and cocktail offerings as well. The bartender was extremely helpful as I was undecided on what I wanted to try but I ended up going with the pork sliders and substituting the pork for jackfruit paired with a glass of their cabernet sauvignon. The food arrived fairly quickly the sliders were pretty good and the hint of sweetness in the jackfruit was the perfect balance to the bbq sauce of the slider. All in all a solid spot in the city and worth paying them a visit when you're in the area. read more
