Had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday at Nizza. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly kind. The host, server, and my waitress were all wonderful and made me and my friends feel so welcome. The restaurant is modern and really nice inside. The food was delicious. I had the Sunday spaghetti and the braised short rib, and the short rib was probably the most tender piece of meat I've ever had. The meatballs were super tender too, and the sauces were amazing. The fresh focaccia bread was so good. We also had the Tuscan kale salad, bruschetta (the best I've ever had and I normally don't even like bruschetta), and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was excellent, and the prices were really good for that area. I was very impressed and would definitely recommend this place. read more

Let's start this by saying I had a reservation - so, based on that, my table should be a guarantee. That's what a reservation is. We checked in and the host at the kiosk started a scrolling, found me, then started panic looking around the restaurant for a table. Nothing open. "Overbooked what's going on etc etc" So we had to wait. Which would be ok and it was - so we stood over by the bar. Then other folks checked in while the tables continued to be full. A party walked in - immediately sat in a table that was opened - I could feel my pulse in my eyeballs. Bartender kept checking on us asking if we wanted a drink. That's how you know you're getting popped. So we waited. Table opened up - and we were sat. The host came over - apologized said drinks were on house so I ordered an old-fashioned. It was good. We started with the bruschetta which I expected to be standard but ended up being anything but. Thick hearty sauce on top of a large slice of bread with a burrata. The sauce - was exceptional. Wow. We ordered our entrees - me going with the cacio e Pepe. I asked for the crispy brussel sprouts as a side knowing that the portion of pasta would be on the chic side rather than the family style place. The sprouts came out with the bruschetta. Lol. Oh well. The pasta was ok - kind of on the bland side - wasn't a lot pf pepper to it - and really lacked sauce on top as a garnish but the noodles were al dente. We shared an apple crostada for dessert which burned thru my mouth and into my nose - which meant it was fresh. The problem that keeps this at 3 rather than 4 was our waitress: smaller blonde girl who, after the appetizers, tried to give us dessert menus then doubled down asking if we decided. She was pretty lapse on service. Then halfway thru said she was heading out for the day and another guy would handle us. Ok? She was still there when we left. I had a glass of red wine with linguine with shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, tomatoes, calabrian chilies, in white wine. It had a nice kick to it. If you don't like spicy ask to have the chilies removed. All of the fish in this dish was fresh and flavorful. For dessert we shared tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake. Both were divine! read more

Nizza was the best Italian food I've ever had outside of Italy. Everything was absolutely delicious including the gluten free calamari. The pasta was so soft and fresh. I've never tasted anything like it. It literally melted in my mouth. If I had more time on my trip, I would have returned to Nizza. I dined with someone who has gluten allergies, and she was able to have gluten free bread, pasta and calamari. That was a huge plus, and she also loved her food. She reported she couldn't taste the difference between normal and the gluten free. I would eat here again and will be recommending it to anyone visiting NYC! read more

Really enjoyed our meal at Nizza. I chose this spot because it has a robust gluten-free menu including gluten-free gnocchi. My partner never gets to eat gnocchi and she loved their gluten-free dish! I had the gluten-filled gnocchi and enjoyed it as well. The red sauce was oddly unimpressive, but the gnocchi itself was soft and fluffy. The melty mozzarella tasted a little smoky from being cooked in the wood fired pizza oven, which made it all the better. The goat cheese and roasted beets paired perfectly and were a great start to the meal. The chocolate torte was a decadent end cap to the meal along with the yummy espresso martini! The service was great at the bar and once we got seated. We arrived early for our reservation and the allowed us to take up what little open space there was near the bar. The bartender quickly made me a drink while we waited even though he was plenty busy. Great service! They start you with focaccia bread that is warm, fluffy and crispy crust with a herbed oil saucer with a giant dollup of smooth Ricotta cheese right in the middle. So good, i could have just kept eating it for my meal. Fantastic. Then we got eggplant rolatini for app, which was very nice with a rich tomato sauce. My wife had the gnocchi for main course which was also perfect - light and soft with great sauce and cheese. The rest of us all got personal pizzas: Margherita, pepperoni, and meatball. These were all so good, but the meatball pizza wad my favorite. They came out piping hot, and the crust was perfect. Just the right amount of chew to the dough and crisp at the same time. Generous toppings, but balanced properly so you taste everything: the sauce, the cheese, the seasoning, the crust. Definitely get a pizza here- any of them! Our server was super-nice, attentive without being overbearing, and made good recommendations. The personal pizzas are large enough that we all had leftovers for tomorrow. Restaurant? Pretty. Food? Delicious. Service? Terrible. That just about sums up our experience at Nizza. We went in with a reservation for 3 and were quickly seated outside for lunch. The restaurant is clean and very good looking and did accommodate our dog with water. The menu is decently diverse for an Italian restaurant and we ended up ordering the grilled asparagus, margherita pizza, and the spaghetti pomodoro. The food came out quickly and looked delicious. The portion sizes were okay for the price, although the grilled asparagus was a very small plate. As for the flavor, the grilled asparagus was delicious. The asparagus was cooked perfectly and the basil pesto sauce paired well with the whipped ricotta. It surprised us with how good it was honestly, just wish it was a larger portion. The margherita pizza was good as well, with a good portion and well balanced flavors with a nice crust and sauce. Lastly, the spaghetti pomodoro was a hit. The noodles were soft and the sweet tomato sauce brought the whole thing together. Now you might be wondering how this review ends in a 3 star rating and here's how it happened... When we went to pay they brought out a paper bill, so we naturally assumed that we would be handing our card over to the waitress who would then run it in the back. Wrong. She came back up to us with a mobile card reader, which isn't a problem in itself except for the fact that she stared at us as we paid which was very uncomfortable. After that we had to go through the biggest issue with mobile readers: tipping. It feels like common courtesy to turn away while people tip or some leave the reader as patrons do, but again she stayed there just looking at us with a very expectational body language. It was very clear her body language was that of someone who was expecting a big tip to come and to be very honest, that is the fastest way to not get a big tip. This all culminated when after we tipped a VERY STANDARD amount, she removed our card from the reader and TOSSED it onto the table. Incredibly rude, disrespectful, and all but confirmed that she was trying to eyeball us into getting a good tip. We always tip for good waiters and good service but this was just so downright disrespectful. Look, the food at Nizza is amazing, we cannot deny that, but that final interaction soured our taste enough to not come back. read more

Came here before a broadway show, walked in and no wait. The food was solid Italian, honestly nothing too crazy. The caprese salad was fresh. The fried zucchini, shrimp & calamari was different and had a spicy marinara sauce which was a nice touch as well. The pizza was as perfect size to share and yummy as well. Our server was super nice and have great recommendations. The service was fast and swift and we were able to be in and out quickly so we didn't miss our show. I went here with a friend for brunch yesterday before going to see the amazing Audra in Gypsy! I got there almost 30min early but the waiter got me seated at the table. He was friendly & happy to give recommendations. We started with the burrata to share--it was a rather (unfortunately) small ball of the delicious cheese, which came with 2 toasted baguette slices & a tasty tomato spread. For my entree I got the socca with eggs (a round chickpea "flatbread" with spinach & cheese topped with 2 eggs), which I liked a lot, different from anything I've tasted before. Washed it down with a refreshing mint lemonade. My friend enjoyed her omelette & Bloody Mary & tea. I was tempted looking at their homemade pastas & personal-size pizzas--another time! First off I'd like to say I've been to this place a few times in the past, but haven't been back in roughly a year as I myself and my partner noted whenever we visited the service at the bar was always great - friendly and talkative bartenders, super hospitable, but the table service was lacking and in a city of a million restaurants we decided to try elsewhere, but I'm glad I was able to convince my partner to give this place another try! Knowing what we know from our previous experiences we made a beeline for bar and were promptly greeted by Anthony with a great big smile, two glasses of water, and a cocktail menu as soon as we were seated. Anthony asked if we would be staying for dinner and when we said yes he was quick to let us know about the night's special and some of his personal favorites when we were stuck between a few dishes. One note of improvement that I saw on this recent visit is the addition of bread service prior to the meal beginning and my god, seriously this was probably the best bread service in all of Manhattan! The bread was fresh and warm, and the oil and ricotta were a perfectly balanced accompaniment! Genuinely whoever put together this bread plate has seriously upped the entire meal experience here by 10x. The rest of the food was also better than I remember it from before so I think something has certainly changed for the better here! The burrata appetizer was everything you could ask for and the meatball pizza was served fresh out of the oven, perfectly crisp! We ended the meal with the tiramisu which was another hit! Overall, this beautiful, softly-lit cozy restaurant makes for a great date-night spot and with the recent changes to the food I can't help but want to keep coming back! I loved this beautiful, tucked away,  restaurant. Everything about it was commendable. Gus was an attentive, and cordial, server and the wait staff made every course seamlessly transition into the next. They have outdoor seating, as well. My classic Margarita drink was well crafted. The double espresso, plus the side of cold milk, filled the large cup to the rim and hit the spot. The Arancini appetizer(rice balls with peas & cheese) was served on a bed of marinara sauce and it was DELICIOUS. a great choice and highly recommended. The Branzino fillet came right off of the skin without a knife and was amazing. The accompanying cherry tomatoes, olives, and fingerling potatoes made this a fabulous entree. This is one of many Italian style restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. Very low key location right on 9th Avenue, few blocks away from Touristy Times Square, but just right for New Yorkers. It's like Little Italy, but not. Nizza is fitted perfectly for the young, middle-aged and mature crowds while not too swanky. Not grungy, dingy, but sexy and inviting. The decor of the restaurant is dim, warm and Italian. The food doesn't exactly come in massive portions and the prices are reasonable, but they are savory and delicious! I sat right in the middle of the restaurant, was offered a seat at the bar but declined. I wasn't in the mood for a glass of Cabernet while waiting for my meal, which went a little something like this. To start, I ordered the Caprese. It was an Insalata with heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella, aged balsamic dressing and basil. Holy High Heavens of the Lord. It was so cool and refreshing. My mouth salivates just thinking about it that I would go back again just for this appetizer another time. Entree was a House Special. For the sake of Yelp, I couldn't remember what it was. Perhaps it wasn't memorable. All I can remember was that it was baked something, it came straight out of the kitchen, one bite and I burned the top of my mouth. I absolutely don't recall what it was. But I did have a glass of ginger ale on the side. Lol! For Dessert I ordered a Tiramisu. That was the icing on the cake. All I can say I was speechless, no words. Stopped in for dinner at this lovely Italian restaurant while in the city during the holidays. It did not disappoint! We went on a Wednesday night and it was Wine Wednesday where a selection of wine bottles are 50% off ($24 each) which is not a bad deal in NYC! We got red barbera wine, it was good and definitely hit the spot and added to our dining experience. We also had a cute view of a Christmas tree outside so it was a nice view for dinner during the holidays/ winter time. When we arrived, we were greeted by very kind staff members. I could see that it was very busy and we were the only ones who sat outside. Because of this, I think it took awhile for us to be served & attended to (close to 30 minutes) but the heaters were on so it wasn't the worst thing in the world, and we understood! When we were eventually served, the experience was great. Our server was quick to bring out our wine bottle and got our order in. We did have to ask for the bread & butter, although it seemed like 'complimentary bread service' based on other reviews, but once again, it was a busy night so we understood the reason for wait. Once we were able to get bread, it was hot and delicious. The burrata appetizer also exceeded expectations and we were very impressed with the creamy burrata and the delicious bread. We also ordered the gnocchi al forno, which was vegetarian and delicious. It was fluffy pillowy gnocchi with a tomato based sauce + classic mozzarella, parm, and bread crumbs. The bread crumbs added a great touch and nice crunch to the hot & tasty gnocchi. I devoured it and would recommend to all!! The pizza Bianca was also a show stopper. A few different white cheeses, Calabrian pepper, garlic, lemon, AND arugula... amazing ingredients that made a spectacular pizza. Perfectly crisp and just thin enough crust, this pizza was a hit. The combination of flavors was perfect & the arugula was the perfect touch to balance out the creamy cheese based pizza. Both entrees were phenomenal and I would honestly come here again. Finally, despite being full from the amazing entrees we got the hazelnut affogato & it was great! I love affogato and Nizza's is great. I would definitely try more of their dessert menu next time!! The interior is warm and inviting with a cute patio area to sit outside and the menu has a lot of options - including some great bottles of Italian wine. Brittney was our server and she did an excellent job - she was incredibly friendly and helpful with the menu. They have an entire gluten free menu with a lot of options that I was grateful for. My husband got the soup of the day (Minestrone), myself the Arugula Salad, and we shared the gluten free sausage pizza and ciabatta bread. Everything was sooo good! Good but not great food at a reasonable price. I got a mushroom pasta that was well executed but the mushrooms tasted like they were canned. Though it is technically wheelchair accessible, both the restaurant and the patio get packed. Fair enough, but when the staff is not thoughtful it makes for a difficult time getting to the table. I had an outdoor reservation and clearly noted that I use a wheelchair, yet they put us at a two top in a corner while there were other couples dining at four top tables that had much easier access closer to the door of the restaurant that they could have just as easily saved for us and sat the people who don't have wheelchairs in the less accessible spot. Would have been fair enough if it was a party of three or four that actually needed that space, but when it's a choice between any two people they should have thought about this. Luckily I could make it work after asking them to move some plants. I'm not sure if their restroom is accessible, but it probably would be hard to get to with how packed the tables are indoors. I love that they still have their outdoor seating and the heat lamps make it cozy. I will be back for that reason and that reason only as there are so few outdoor options now that the neighborhood Karens killed the sheds is disabled people have depended on throughout the pandemic. read more
