We enjoy local bars ! And this bar was perfect for us to wind down with a couple of drinks. Great deals and not over crowded. Quick service. We are low key couple and enjoy supporting local businesses. They do offer food but we only wanted a couple of drinks. They have some booths available if you come w friends. So if you just need to wind down stop by local 42 for a drink or two!

If you're looking for a local bar, out of the tourist chaos, that has those Hell's Kitchen vibes.... You done found it. Place is chill, cheap ....great find

Every one was better than the next. Worth every penny.

Been doing "Dive Bars" in NYC for decades, so I thought I'd stop in based on the 4.5* ratings. I WAS BLOWN AWAY! There is nothing like this place! I had the good fortune of being taken care of by Adam, the owner, an extremely welcoming and knowledgeable host. The bourbon selection is absolutely 10/10. He has vintage and specialty bottles, all priced clearly by the oz., that are really beyond imagination. Trust me on this one.. you WILL NOT be disappointed. After savoring 4 vintage bourbons, I had their very delicious Reuben with onion rings. Cannot wait to return!

We absolutely loved this place. We stopped in on a whim to kill some time before other plans and it ended up being the highlight of our day. The staff is super friendly, and was more than willing to chat with you while they were free. The vibe of the place is great, you can have conversation with regulars or out of towners. The price was great too! Their private label beer is decent, but super cheap. We also grabbed the fried pickles which were excellent. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

I Got a seat the empty bar and had there special , Corn beef and cabbage. It was thin sliced cut and not too fatty ! I had Hot mustard on da side ! This place is pretty much like a version of a dive bar but and upgraded version! They have a small menu but it does the trick! I also ordered a gunnies as well it was Poured right! And it was meal under $25

If you love a real bar, great food, great prices, excellent service, and an outstanding bourbons all at a great price, this place is nirvana for you! It isn't fancy! I dislike fancy, pretentious bars! Adam and his team will welcome you like friends and time will fly by because it's such a warm and inviting environment!

I love this spot, and Zoe is the best! It's my favorite place to go--especially when Zoe's there. Try the mushroom Reuben on rye--you won't regret it! #Bar #Zoe #Food #Reuben

I know a few of the bartenders by name and even the ones I don't are still really nice and chill. its nice that there is a place I can go where I actually like the music they play and while sometimes spots might be on id say it's more of a dive bar then a sports bar might not be for everyone but I really like not having to care about sports in a bar. I have anxiety out the ass about everything ordering drinks included and I hate bothering people. 99.9% of the time If you give me the wrong order or mishear me I wont say anything. i have a certain drink order i like its very simple and every bar has all the ingredients but outside of the names I've given the drink myself there is no official name for it and there is one bartender there that makes it for me everytime I'm there and I don't even Have to tell him He just remembers even if it's been a while its just really you don't always get that and its really nice. I keep to myself and always go out alone when I do I find the customers that go there can be really chill the possibility of socializing i feel is way more likely at Strangelove then other Bars Ive been to in the area. it's definitely a vide that might not fit some people but personally I kinda like that even more and the drinks are simple and cheap another thing I really like.

Just good people, loud music, and a dive-bar atmosphere that doesn't need to try too hard. Strangelove proves you don't need fancy cocktails or velvet ropes--just cold drinks, good vibes, and people who actually know how to have a damn good time.

It has easily earned a spot as one of my favorite bars of all time. The underground space flawlessly captures a raw, seedy, 1980s rock 'n' roll vibe, with eclectic decor that extends beautifully to the themed menus and custom glassware. Sitting at the bar was a highlight--the bartenders were fantastic, clearly proud of their craft, and they even humorously indulged my game of trying to guess the ingredients of each drink they mixed. The cocktail lineup is phenomenal. A few absolute highlights: the Purple Rain with its purple ice and peppercorn, the flambéed Dirty Dancing, a brilliant espresso martini riff called Flick The Bean, and Pure Temptation--which has glassware you just have to see for yourself. Don't miss this place if you're in NYC!

You need a password (easy to find online), and you go through a hidden door down a staircase. But it feels more like a novelty than anything else. NYC has way more iconic speakeasies, so this isn't somewhere I'd go out of my way for more than once. Nothing wrong with the vibe--it's Times Square, so you already know what you're getting--but it's definitely a one-and-done kind of spot. The drinks are good and super fun, but they're very extra (smoke, presentation, all that), so between that and how packed it gets, it can take a while just to get one cocktail. Didn't try the food. Overall, go for the pics and TikToks--it's perfect for that. I'd recommend checking it out once, but I don't really see it being a repeat spot.
