A fun and friendly Irish pub with weeknight karaoke in Midtown. We had the best time having a couple glasses of wine and singing Elton John karaoke with the enthusiastic crowd. Fun divey bar that has a cozy feel. The service and ambiance is welcoming and chill. They were playing Jeopardy when we arrived. I'm basing my review on the drink: we ordered margaritas and it was pretty sugary. Not sure i tasted much of tequila. They also do not have a menu. This place has darts in the back area so that was a cute vibe. Not sure I would come here again. This is New York so I'm expecting the best of the best. This place was okay, I did enjoy their sign that said "dance as if no one is watching you." However, the songs they played were not dance-worthy so didn't really match the atmosphere. read more

It's actually pretty funny. We really went one night to get a beer. Andrew, the bartender was working that night. He was cool and he wasn't extra or anything. He was just being himself and what I liked the most was that he interacts with his customers. Not all Bartenders are like that so yeah. Anyways, we came back pretty much every night to have one beer just to chat with Andrew. We're not even from New York, we're from LA. I've always wanted to move to the east coast, but never really cared to look into it. Let's just say we met so many people at this bar, from the owners, bartenders to the customers were all amazing. Walter's Bar is your prototypical neighborhood dive bar which is a godsend in upscale Manhattan. No menu per say; just order from what you see on draft for beer and shout out your standard drink order whether that be a house mixed drink or straight shot. Bartenders are ever attentive too. It does seem to function doubly as a sports bar, but was easy-going during our visit. As it is located near Madison Square Garden, I am sure it gets popping after all events let out there. What more do you need than cheap cold drinks and a chill atmosphere? A quintessential neighbor bar in NYC that checks all the right boxes is what you are on the look out for. read more

We stopped in on a Saturday around 5:30 for a few drinks before our concert at MSG (1 block away). Our bartender, Annie, was awesome. She took the time to ask what we were doing in town and even congratulated us on our recent engagement. I usually just want to be left alone but she had just the right amount of small talk and leaving us alone. We had 2 beers each (Sam Adams $7/each) and went to close out. She asked if she could make us a concoction and we obliged. She gave us 2 free Green Tea shots to congratulate us, it was beyond nice. She really just seemed to get it. Great little dive bar near a lot of interesting stuff. We stopped in while we waited for family to meet us and loved it. That said, there aren't many little hole in the wall dive bars that we don't like but this place certainly fits the bill. Cold beers, good prices, friendly bartender. Happy ~*~200th Review~*~ to me! A girlfriend had her birthday Happy Hour here and I have to admit, I was really feeling the place. It was kind of hard to find because all it says is Jameson outside the bar (apparently there was a very low key sign in the front that say Walter's Pub but I totally missed it). All my friends kept telling me was that it was across the street from Taco Bell. LOL. As packed as it is on a typical Friday night, I was more than glad to find out that the girls reserved a table at Walters (huge plus on my books, esp considering that it was a friday night (night after halloween) and most bars usually dont allow a 2 tables reservation). Pounding the pavement looking for a final brew to end the fun filled day of adventure and debauchery telling tales of drunkenness and foolery, and by chance, we stumbled upon Walters. A fitting outpost for our post concert reflections and, if your finding yourself gabby, meeting new and luckiky, interesting people. As I chatted it up with a few fine young ladies about this and that, broski kept ordering bourbon and Fireballs, my buddy has an iron constitution and can drink like a man condemned. Two bartenders held down the service as the late croud stumbled in, slightly aggressive in their choice of seats (IE: taken ones) but all in good spirits. Walters has such a homely feel, bartenders add so much too cultivate that feel by giving so much of their time and every single interaction is chock full of smiles and kindness. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but both were top shelf, top of the heap -- tenders of the bar. No food was consumed, but a few red and white paper lined skewered goodies in shallow baskets were set down upon the bar, mid-chest level of a few regulars, or so they seemed too me, as they wrapped arms around their food and two for five dollar Pabst Blue Ribbons like a mother bear sheltering her cubs from any intrusions. Very diverse croud of city folk just talkin, laughing and blowing off some weekly built up work or school steam. read more

I was here yesterday around 3 pm trying to relax after another day of volunteering and errand running. I've passed here many times. I decided to come in and sit for a spell. They had a special for 2 12 oz cans of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) for $5. Can't get much more of dive bar choice. The decor is wood and looks like the usual dive bar decor. The only thing that spoiled that atmosphere was the vast amount of light entering the bar. The few people there at the time seemed cool. The bartender was professional and friendly. read more

Came here upon the recommendation of my AirBnb host; turns out it's his go-to bar for casual hangs, which is just what I was looking for. It was a Saturday evening but not too crowded yet, and I enjoyed a pint of beer at the bar while watching some sports. The bartender was really nice and made a point of checking in on me periodically without being obnoxious. The beer prices and selection were good, and I had a nice relaxing time. it's a totally chill, attitude-free joint, from my experience. When I walked past a few other times on different nights the crowd size seemed to vary, so perhaps some nights are more relaxing than others. I was going to write a funny, well-crafted story-based review about this place that involved me kicking the doors open Wild-West style, having the bartender slide a beer down the bar to me and then kicking someones ass with a tire iron, but I decided to just let you know how great this place is in general. The place is small, dirty and not bright inside (but not super dark). Silver Strike bowling in the back and a dart board as well. Pool, too (nice table, surprisingly). Service was friendly and prices were cheap. $5.50 for a strong Jack and Coke, like $3 for a Corona. Domestics were cheaper. I pay more at the Duane Reade across the street from my co-op! The bartender actually did start sliding the drinks down the bar (which was awesome) after our first round which TOTALLY caught my buddy off guard - he made a beautiful save, though and didn't waste a drop of his beer. Crowd is all locals, everyone seems to know each other. Close to Penn Station (this area SUCKS) but didn't seem to be infected with the bile that seeps out of Penn Station (sorry, tourists, Long Islanders and Jersey people). Great place to chill if you're in the area and want some cheap, casual drinks. read more

An 'ok' bar in a really scummy part of NYC, reminded me of downtown Detroit but without the culture, a real 'armpit' of an area. They have a jukebox which at times is a good thing and of course sometimes a bad thing. The speed metal Gwar knockoff band didn't do it for me. As far as being a 'dive bar', its pretty close. Of course the strength of a dive bar isn't just its odd/bizarre Twin Peaks like aesthetic but its talents as an anesthetic. The drinks are good and really cheap, considering this is still Manhattan. If you are out to find that 'special someone', you probably wont find her/him here, unless you are into that methadone clinic reject old roadie menthol smoking lizard skinned mumbler type. The guy that looks like a homeless person off the set of 'The Wire', he's here and wearing some odd glowing earpiece (in case his agent/publicist calls) and he loves to bang on the bar. Also there was some guy that asked me a question about something that was on the TV (ESPN) at the time. The language was not of this world and neither was his breath, imagine a menthol raw sewage leak or something along the lines of a colitol explosion. There was also a small selection of older sun worn skanks and others that could most beguiling be described as 'female carbon based life forms'. Located just a few blocks south of Penn Station, if you need a cheap drunk before going home, this spot will do. read more

After eating out late with my bf we decided to find a bar that was open past 1 am. Lucky enough this was in the area and open. We walked in and the place was blasting music as though it was not 1 am. It was a fun little place. We had our privacy in the corner. But next to us was a drunk couple of women who were practically on the verge of passing out. They were loud and rowdy just looking for someone to listen to them. I can't speak about the alcohol since we ordered just one beer each. It was fine. After a bit we got used to the noise. The best part about this is that it's open till 4 am! If you're planning to stay out with no real plans, this place will not fail you if you're in the area :D read more

This is a great bar! Very relaxed and unassuming, and extremely affordable. Great atmosphere, too, and the bartenders couldn't be nicer.

Despite the elusive eponymous patron himself evading us, my friends and I enjoyed a simply exquisite experience at Walter's Bar. In fact, so much so that I created a Yelp account just to sing their praises - this mere fact should hopefully give you a slight glimpse into the sheer competency of this establishment. Not only were they incredibly welcoming towards the end of an admittedly disorganised night for our party, but they displayed a cordial and upbeat attitude that immediately put me at ease. Nicky, in particular (I hope that's how to spell it!) demonstrated great aptitude for understanding our situation, and was more than helpful in providing us with not only crisp Stellas, but also witty banter at a level which I, personally, was painfully unable to reciprocate. I ultimately hope to return again to receive an unparalleled level of service I have yet to undergo at another bar, and I would be more than happy to spill another beer over myself if that was the price I had to pay... thank you, Walter, whoever you may be, for creating (perhaps inadvertently) what transpired to be one of the most memorable nights of my life. read more
