Randomly stumbled on this speakeasy and I loved it, right next door to the mean fiddler, make reservations so that you can retrieve the password to enter. This place was such a vibe, 80's/90's theme. Per their website "The Woo Woo is serving up 1980's vibes, craft cocktails and risque seduction in this underground speakeasy sex shop." However, we went in without a reservation and the hostess pointed out that it was standing room only and to not sit at the tables. We were under the impression that maybe they were so busy or had lots of reservations that we could not sit, however, there was probably less than 10 tables with guests the entire time we were there. The entrance for the place is some really cool looking sex shop, you enter through a door that is filled with VHS sex tapes and you are then transported back into the 80's. All of the waitresses here were beyond amazing, they were very nice and helpful I never mind paying for a high priced drink as long as it's worth it and the drinks here were spot on. Very fun atmosphere with the 80s nostalgia and the hysterical drink and menu names. We stopped in here for a post-dinner drink (didn't eat). I found the whole entry and password routine so entertaining. Drinks were enjoyable. I compare this to the Percy Jackson scene where they are stuck in the casino, overwhelmed with pleasure, losing track of time. I was sucked in by the 80s tunes and the retro themes. Some of the names of my drinks included: Purple Rain, Just the Tip, Pretty in Pink, Panty Dropper, Qualude, and Dominatrix. The food is all bar food. Sandwiches, wings, etc. I had fries topped with cheese, which were fine. Would be especially good drunk food. The one complaint I had about this spot was that my server seemed to be biased against me. He treated the table next to me (two different sets of people) more amicably than me. Maybe because I'm fat, or a single diner, I dunno, but it took him quite a while to warm up to me. This was a tremendous find when it comes to speakeasies. When you think about these types of locations -- needing a password to be allowed inside, a hidden entrance to the actual bar, a cool, slightly sleazy theme (or, in this case, a very sleazy one) -- this embodies what I at least search for when seeking a speakeasy. The Woo Woo is class. Located on West 47th in the Theater District, you have to look for the subtle signage on a narrow strip of building to find the door. When it's not peak establishment hours, you can approach the front door, which has a speaker box. After you press the speaker button and receive a response from the person downstairs, you need to provide a password -- it's located on the website if you can find it. Once you're accepted for entry, you descend a largely graffiti-covered stairwell that sets the tone for the 1980s Times Square vibes, where a hodgepodge of risqué bars and theaters once stood. Once you make it the equivalent of two or three floors down underground, you reach the main greeting area that resembles an underground sex shop with deep red lighting and neon lights, with a barrage of sex toys arranged like they would be for sale. Upon giving my name for the reservation I had made, the hostess led us through a dark, cloth-like, red curtain that revealed bookshelves filled with what seemed to be old videotapes. While it looks like a dead end at first, some lever is pulled that I didn't see, and a door with one of the shelving apparatuses opens, revealing the stunning 80s-style bar that seems inspired by the British gay bar Heaven from that time frame. There was a space in the area that looked set up for a dance floor based on the lighting, but it was still early enough in the day for additional tables. Upon being seated, we settled in and reviewed the various craft cocktail options, which had names with sexual innuendos (Sex Cure Anxiety, for example), as music played from the speakers and the movie "Back to the Future" played on one of the TV screens. My first drink was called the Spit or Swallow, which was served in a swallow bird-shaped glass with an opening in the tail end for a straw to be inserted for drinking. Made with tequila, blue curaçao, jalapeño, pineapple, and lime, the drink was quite delightful and ensured there would be no spitting... only swallowing. My second drink was called Just the Tip, which was the opposite of my first drink. It was a bourbon-based cocktail, made with rosemary, winter spices, black walnut, lemon, and torched cinnamon -- yes, they use a small flame thrower to light the cinnamon stick on fire, allowing the flavors to take off. More than just a tip, I would say! The staff was lovely, especially the server who served us, who gave us a complimentary set of Woo Woo Shots, their trademark, made with vodka, fresh peach, cranberry, & lime, served in a 1980s-style shot glass. The shots come with a small record-like board that has cut-up lines of what looks like powdered sugar that is supposed to resemble a drug -- use your imagination. The Woo Woo is quite the delight of a bar if you like a little bit of sleaziness and fun times, with some quirky drinks that allow you to live your best life. read more

The drink menu is large as is the food menu. All drinks are original concoctions and I haven't had a bad one. I like the Purple Rain especially. The "Just the Tip" drink is set on fire when they bring it to your table! They also usually have a variety of seasonal fun cocktails too. I had the Rampant Rabbit Easter drink today. Staff is generally friendly. Sometimes service can be a little slow and you need to flag them down if it gets busy. Plenty of vegetarian food options as well. I've been to many speakeasy's in Las Vegas, but surprisingly this was my first one in New York City. I was so excited to come to this place on a day off with my boyfriend and it did not disappoint! Most of the speakeasy's in New York City are located in lower Manhattan so I was happy to find this one in the heart of Times Square. It looks like the security works for both the bar on the right and this speakeasy on the left so you will be prompted to check your ID immediately. The speakeasy is not as secretive as I thought as the sign was right on top of the door. However, you do need to ring a doorbell to get in and you need to provide a password that you obtain from their website. The website design is sooo cool and retro. I recommend checking out the menu on there as well! Once we were buzzed in, we walked down a colorful staircase into a room where we were greeted by the frinedly hostess. She led us behind the curtains where we stood in front of a false shelf that turned out to be the door into the speakeasy. Clicking a button to the right and pushing the door simultaneously, we walked into what felt like a 90s bar. So dim, but colorful yet calm. We were seated on one of the side tables with a border which I liked putting my drinks on for nice pictures. Our waitress and the waitress that subbed for her when our main waitress was on lunch were both so nice! There's even a DJ playing music near the entrance. I was not sure what drink to get at first, but my boyfriend ordered the Dirty Dancing which turned out to be my favorite with the torched meringue on top and vanilla flavor on the bottom. He then ordered Panty Dropper without the spicy rim which was a bit strong for me. We also ordered the buffalo chicken spring rolls which were delicious! Crispy on the outside with meat on the inside and two sauces - a creamy blue cheese and a spicy buffalo sauce with a kick! I dipped it in both and it was so good! After chilling for awhile enjoying the nice music, we decided to get our second drinks. I always like piña coladas so I decided to try the Chasing Rainbows. It was definitely on the stronger side and I do prefer my piña coladas frozen. However, I loved the lucky charms marshmallows on top. I ate them all and gave the drink to my boyfriend. And he ordered the Eye of the Tiger which I believe was the strongest drink out of the four. He enjoyed it though! I would love to come back to get my Dirty Dancing drink and try more apps!! We walked down stairs that were spray painted with 80s everything. When we reached the hostess stand, there was a little museum like area with everything sex. It reminded me of the Provincetown sex museum. We all had to provide an ID to enter. We pushed a button and moved a wall rack of VHS tapes as promised and entered into a very cool restaurant. There were lights everywhere, amazing 80s music and 80s movies playing on every tv. We had a waitress and a waiter come to our table within minutes. We ordered cocktails and then when he came back, our food. The menu was great. My wife had the Big Mac quesadilla and she said it was amazing. Two of us had the grilled cheese beefsteak and the meat inside was SO GOOD. It came with tortilla chips and homemade guac that was fantastic. The nacho fries were so good and a meal in themselves. The truffle fries were a little weak and flavorless but the fry itself was good. Our reservation was at 615 and we knew there was a 90 minute time limit for tables but we were asked to leave at 730. Our bill was $357 which included 4 meals, 2 sides and 7 drinks with tip. We were a little disappointed that we could stay the full 90 minutes because I still had a drink. Once in, we were meet with an 90's style bar with multiple TVs playing shows from that era. My friend and I sat closer to the bar; I was facing a TV playing The Fresh Prince and my friend was facing the TV that played Sex In the City. The music was also from the 90's. It was a cool vibe. The drinks and food have funny, sexual names and we ordered a few things. For drinks, I ordered Sex Cures Anxiety, which was a spin on a French 75. I thought it was tasty but just a little too sweet. My friend ordered Morning Wood. For food we ordered the Slide'her In Chicken Sliders and the French Fry Nachos.
