Tai Gau - Their #1- on the menu, not in taste (although I overheard it's the most popular (but I suspect that's because it's a safe option for pho newbies)). Discourse around Northern and Southern pho always delineates to how Northern is more pure and simple, and this item definitely captures simplicity. Light and focused on the meat flavor, this is what I imagine when they say it's unbothered by extra ingredients. I wouldn't say it's taken to a high level but refreshingly plain is what you're looking for then I suggest this. Loi Gau - Ga Tron - I'm glad my Taiwanese baby momma got this cause I would've never dared to try a brothless pho. Stewing in my own ignorance, this was one of the better dishes I've have here. First off, the chicken was done great: moist, coated with flavored, and draped with crunchy fried shallot bits. The pho noodles laminated with what I'm certain is maggi (yeast solution that's often used as a soy sauce substitute). This dish is redefining my concept of pho. Ap Chao - Sot Vang - Ga Nuoc - * The noodles hella fresh. That's why I didn't mention them in any of the descriptions Honorable Mention - The Salt Mate. I don't know what's going on here but every time I visit the menu is different and they took out one of Earth's tangible pieces of heaven. The ducking Salt Mate was a decadent blend of coffee, fluffy cream, and salt. Nothing overpowering, just a marriage of hedonic ingredients that remind you that it feels good to treat yourself sometimes. Pro tip: get the fried dough sticks and dip it in your broth. Pulled up and no one was there which was almost a miracle. Immediate seating, no chaos, just me and my life choices. The spot itself is super lowkey - no frills, no vibes trying too hard. You order at the counter, sit down, and let the pho temporarily fix your problems. I got the #4 as suggested by my Insta algo and added an egg on the side. Today was my first time coming here at Tén Ten to get a pho bowl. They have a small menu of pho selections and just 4 if you see the menu on the tv above the cashier. I decided to go with option 1, which was the Tái Gâu. It is rice noodles with flank beef and brisket for $17. The place was very yellow with nice yellow stools, yellow tables, and a long green bench along the wall. There were condiments of napkins, chopsticks, spoons, lime, hot sauce, and other condiments on each table to add to your pho. When the pho came out, I was amazed at the brisket. It was still somewhat bloody and did not realized they cooked it medium temperate. It's not well done so the soup had some blood. It tasted so good though! The brisket won my heart and was way better than the flank beef that was stiff and hard compared to the tender bloody brisket! The beef also had a layer of fat that I had to rip off each time I took a piece. The soup was good and I put so much lime that it became very sour with a good twist. Cilantro was very good. I love cilantro. Wish they put more. The green onions very very aromatic. So good! I wish they gave more noodles. I love the quality of the noodles. Flat and broad noodles. The tai gau is a solid 3.5 for me -- while it is a much cleaner and comforting broth, I was hoping it had more depth and a beefier taste. The tái and gầu were sliced well and tender, but portion-wise it felt a bit modest for the price. The quẩy (which comes in 4) might've actually been my favorite -- crispy exterior, light and airy interior and soaked up the flavors of the broth. Added an egg at an additional cost to make it rich and smooth and that was very well worth it. The Ap Chao is fitting for those who want something a little more potent and had many layers of depth. The sautéed beef was very garlicky, peppery and certainly packed a punch. The condiments for northern pho are fairly simple -- a spice sambal situation, lime and pickled garlic. Adding the pickled garlic balanced out the flavors and cut the richness of the broth. The peach and tamarind drinks were very mild in flavor and personally I could've done without. Yes, the prices are Manhattan prices ($17/bowl + tax/tip), but at least you'll enjoy what you're eating? We got the Loi Gau, which was savory and filled with nicely done cuts of briskey, and the Ap Chao, which had more umami on account of the garlic broth and sauteed beef. You really can't go wrong with any of the bowls. For libations, try the Daily Refresher or Vietnamese lemonade during these early summer days. I don't drink coffee, but I'm sure their Viet coffee offerings will slap. This is mostly a take-out spot, so don't expect spacious or ornate seating. We ordered the most popular items, the #1: phở tái gầu and the #3: phở bò áp chảo ($17 each). I liked the phở tái gầu better as it came with flank steak and fatty brisket, the latter of which was so rich and delicious. The phở bò áp chảo was pretty similar but used beef shank instead. I didn't get much garlic flavor in the meat or the broth in the phở bò áp chảo either. Highly recommend some of their house chili garlic sauce-- it packs a punch. I only ordered the Sot Vang once as it is so rich I get a stomach ache from the richness. There is also fat for #5. We ordered to share: 1) Pho Tai Gau, 2) Pho Bo Ap Chao, 3) Fried dough sticks, 4) Daily Refresher drink. Pho Tai Gau - Super delicious! This Vietnamese noodle soup came with flank beef & brisket, scallion, onion, and cilantro. The broth was lighter tasting & the noodle is wider - comparing to the typical saigon pho. I added some lime juice, vinegar + chili sauce and it made the broth even more delicious. It reminded me of a sweet sour broth (tom yum soup), but vietnamese style. Super refreshing + the broth was not salty. The flank beef + brisket were delicious + it had a good amount. I would reorder this! Pho Bo Ap Chao - This was sooo delicious and super flavorful! This Vietnamese noodle soup came w/ sauteed beef shin, garlic, scallion, onion, and cilantro. This noodle soup was more flavorful than the Pho Tai Gau! You can taste the garlic + sauteed beef in the broth. It was delicious by itself + even more delicious after adding chili sauce, vinegar + lime to it. I also would reorder this! Fried dough stick - 4 small fried dough sticks in this appetizer. It reminded me of the chinese crueller. It was savory + crunchy, and when dipped w/ the noodle soup it was even more delicious! I was happy to try this, but would skip this item. Daily Refresher - This drink was super refreshing w/ just the right of sweetness. It is lemongrass-infused peach tea, served with fresh slices of peach and orange. I would reorder this as well! Staff was very friendly and nice. Food was very delicious!
