Side of beef pho
Alex R.

First time checking out Ngon. Big open space, modern finishes . Was noticeably loud inside as tables are close together, opted for outdoor table. Our waitress was very nice and recommended a few dishes like shaken tofu which was well seasoned with purple rice. I had Bún Chả Giò Thịt Nướng which I had at other nearby viet joints. The vermicelli bowl with chargrilled pork, pork patties, eggrolls; spring mix, bean sprouts, cucumber, and pickled veggies. Topped with crushed peanuts and fried shallots, served with sweetened fish Noc cham sauce. Big portion but the salad on the bottom was wilted, not so fresh. Otherwise this was a solid dish. Side of beef pho was nice although I thought it was a bit aggressively seasoned and cloudy. General heavy hand of salt throughout . Worth checking out again and trying other dishes .

New location I believe, opened in May 2026. Clean and modern. It's very authentic Vietnamese food. We had their special dry noodle. It was served with a side of dry noodle, a small bowl of soup with all the Vietnamese green fixings. We also had the mango salad and the chicken wings. These were very big appetizers. These two main dishes would be good for four people. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

Omg! I think I found the best bún bò Huế in NYC. The spice level and flavors really reminded me of home. Thank you to one of the waiters for giving me extra peppers! As a Vietnamese American, I've been disappointed by a lot of the Vietnamese food in NYC, so I'm so glad I found Ngon. They really lived up to their name (ngon means delicious). This is exactly what I've been looking for. I'll probably become a regular!

I haven't found many spots in the city serving bun cha, so I was excited about this spot's grand opening. Came here on a wednesday around 6:30 PM, and there was plenty of seating available. The tables were a bit tight together, but otherwise, it was a nice ambiance. We tried the mango salad and the bun cha, which came out to be $30 per person after tip and tax. The mango salad was very unique, and I liked the various textures in it. The fish sauce and mint added good flavor too. We definitely enjoyed the bun cha more. The flavors in the dipping sauce were delicious, and the meats were juicy and tender.

It was honestly so loud inside the restaurant we sat upstairs had a good window view of street and pedestrians. Summer roll grilled pork was yumyum but wish they add mint or herbs to it to freshen up the roll, but the bathroom had a nice toilet. Soups were just ok for chicken and pork. Do have beautiful decor and vibe w a bird cage seating.

As a Vietnamese American from Orange County with very high standards for Vietnamese food, I'm genuinely impressed by how authentic this place is! I think I found the best bún bò Huế in nyc. Heads up,it's a little on the spicy side but it's very flavorful! We tried the papaya salad, bún riêu, and bún bò Huế. I loved the beef jerky in the papaya salad. The bún riêu broth is definitely more crab-forward. The bún bò Huế was my favorite, it reminded me of my family's cooking. Portion size is pretty generous, which I appreciate especially in nyc. My favorite dishes: Bun Bo Hue Papaya Salad Pho Ga Bun Cha Mango salad is a bit on the sweet side. Dry egg noodle needs a bit more sauce. The owners started a restaurant in Dallas before expanding to nyc, which explains why everything tastes so authentic! Service was great. Sean helped give us great recommendations. Overall, I'm very satisfied with all of the dishes I tried and I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. They're also planning to expand their menu even more

We got the phở gà, bún riêu, and bún bò Huế. The pho is supposed to be northern style, but I found it was more southern. You can taste the spices more and it wasn't as fatty. The bun rieu was the best in my opinion! You can really taste the small crabs (idk what the type is called) that Vietnamese people really likes to use because it's the same ones we would use in Vietnam. They give a lot of crab meatballs. The bun bo hue was a bit disappointing. Maybe it's the northern style, im not sure. But I tasted turmeric(?) and other spices I wouldn't expect in this dish. We got a Vietnamese yogurt with sticky rice at the end. The yogurt is very authentic and the sticky rice was something different! I'm happy more viet spots are opening in NYC and are carrying dishes that are not pho.

- overall rating: 4.5 - recommend: spring rolls with shrimp and char siu pork, Phở Bò, shaking tenderloin - I generally think of spring rolls as being fried and summer rolls being fresh ingredients rolled in rice paper (but it's listed as spring rolls on their menu so that's what we'll go with), I was really impressed with these. the flavor was familiar (what one would expect/want from summer rolls - fresh/herby) but had their own unique twist to it which made it outstanding. they include a rolled piece of fried wonton/spring roll skin in the middle that truly elevated the dish, one of the best renditions of "summer rolls" that I've ever had. I should mention I'm not a big fried foods person, so this surprised me. the char siu pork tastes/looks nothing like what I would think of when consuming char siu pork but still delicious - the Phở Bò was very clean and comforting, I wish the broth had a bit more dimension but overall still very good, I particularly enjoyed the meatballs which is usually my least favorite item when getting pho with mixed meats, was a bit dense but seasoned well - the shaking beef was extremely tender (velveting method like in chinese food for those of you wondering why the texture is familiar), served with the most beautifully hued butterfly pea flower rice (it adds a bit of antioxidants but otherwise doesn't change the taste or texture of the rice) - the waitress and manager were both great, very friendly/welcoming

Festooned with bougainvilleas on the outside, Ngon is a pretty restaurant in the East Village. Lunch at this newly opened Vietnamese eatery was a treat. The menu has several temptations. I chose the Bùn Chà Há Nôi which is from Hanoi. The broth was rich and delectable plush with umami that I felt fully satiated. There were pork patties along with meat, dry vermicelli and fresh herbs. Dessert was a Huệ Cà Phê (Salted Cream Coffee). This was richness in a tumbler consisting of a secret concoction and condensed milk poured in. All in all a perfect liquid dessert which I sipped slowly. Kidn and Shawn were hospitable and friendly. The interior had more bougainvilleas (hoa giấy) known as paper flowers in the Land of the Ascending Dragon. Paintings and even a display case of ingredients for the ubiquitous pho are here. There are restrooms at the back and surprisingly the one I went to had a modern feature that I had not encountered. The seat cover came up magically as I opened the door and the seat was warm. I was told that it could be adjusted. I told Kidn and Shawn that during the winter months this would be an added attraction. With a branch in Dallas and now in the Big Apple, Ngon is a restaurant worth visiting. Highly recommended. Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPhone

Papaya Salad with Shrimp, Squid.and woodear mushrooms

Have been eyeing this place for a while now, finally it opened a week ago. Stepped in for a quick lunch, no beer or wine yet. I was the only client, there were three waiters so the service was quick. The place is clean nice minimalist ambiance. Ordered Papaya Salad with Shrimp, Squid, Woodear mushrooms and Fried Rolls with Shrimp, Crab and Pork. Papaya salad arrived first. For starters, it was a big portion with lots of shrimp and squid, poured the dressing over the salad mixed it up and down the hatch it went - delicious Next came the rolls. Three decent size crispy rolls and dipping sauce on the side. First bite...crispy on the outside moist and juicy on the inside, very flavorful

Vermicelli with pork and egg rolls

Very delicious Vietnamese food with comfortable ambiance and bar area for quick seating. I thought the vermicelli with pork and egg rolls were delicious. The pork patties were sooooooo good! My only suggestion would to be for the cucumber and lettuce under the noodles to be chopped. This dish is $28 before tax and tip.

I went twice and both times the servixe was wonderful. The portions are great and everything is delicious. I got the broken rice, the wings and I forgot three name of the drink it was a mocktail but it was all yummy. The second visits I got the other mocktail and the salad and the salad wad huge. They have two floors. The girl who was working is super friendly and very cheerful she gave amazing service and energy. I plan on going back to try more things soon.

Great tasting food, beautiful interior and exterior, friendly service, and great quantity for the price you pay. Wishing Ngon the best of luck in their official grand opening and much success for the business!

I got the pho ($21.78), which is steep for pho, but I guess that's Midtown prices for you. The wait was a slog--over 20 minutes for a bowl of pho, which other Yelp reviews warned about. When it finally arrived, the soup lacked that authentic pho aroma, which was a letdown. On the plus side, the beef was fresh, and the reusable to-go bag was a nice touch. Decent, but the wait and price make it hard to love. Might try again if they speed things up.

After waiting 30 minutes, for what is literally the simplest item on the menu, the bowl is brought out and it's a bowl of broth with a couple slices of chicken. No noodles. When I inquired, the server told me it's because I ordered the Plain Pho... yea and I said it comes with noodles and broth. They told me they could get me noodles, but acted like they were doing me a favor by fetching noodles for me, which was quite offputting because the noodles were quite literally half of the dish I actually ordered. How does one wait half-an-hour at a very casual fast Vietnamese food place, for premade soup and noodles, and still have the order wrong? In the end, I did get my noodles and broth, but the fact that I had to spend this much time and also justify my request for noodles (which are part of the dish) is quite insane. I put this at 2 stars for now, because I enjoyed my first time. Hopefully the service will improve.

It is usually packed during meal times so expect a wait or choose to order take out to save on wait times. I personally love when the Bahn mi is stuffed with both the meat and veggies, it has the perfect ratio. Sometimes there's not enough filling and it feels like you are only eating bread, but at Nom Nam that is definitely not the case. The Pho was also pretty flavorful and it wasn't the best I have had but it was still really good given that I haven't found too many Pho places that I love in nyc. I definitely recommend adding Nom Nam to your lists of places to try!

I'm not in the area very often so this review is for first impressions…read more Naturally how I heard about this place is how any of us hear about anywhere now... TikTok. Do I agree it's "the best pho in nyc"? Hell no. Would I say it's a pretty damn solid pho? *bleep* yeah. I think it also helped that there was a surprising amount of Vietnamese people dining there. For perspective, we're a bit of a rare breed in nyc itself and much less in this pocket of Manhattan. Suffice it to say, it's a Viet restaurant worth going out of your way for. So-- here are the things I unexpectedly like about Nom Nam: * I love love love the diner homage. It's common for new restaurants to play it safe or create an environment of grandeur, that people are often adverse to have fun. This checkered multi-colored menu, neon sign having, is unapologetically fun. The sign on the wall "troi dat oi" is a passive aggressive phrase all Vietnamese moms say. I could do with a different name than "Nom Nam" but it is easy to remember. * The pho: SOLID! Can we take a minute and celebrate reliability without admonishing mediocrity? I like eating upscale obscured ingredients more than the next guy but I'd much prefer a consistent reliably good savory pho or a cold/hungover/sick night. * The Bo Luc Lac: look... or luc (hehe don't kill me-- my gf just sneered at me), the BLL did not have that desired wok hay seared outside but the meat-- tender, the sauce-- immaculate, my stomach-- happy. Honestly I'd buy that sauce alone. Things I didn't like (or care for really): * The cocktail: I like a place with a dedicated cocktail list bespoke to them but they played it safe here. There was one item that could be considered the most Vietnamese but it came off generic. I mean it's a good cocktail but lacks that special flair the rest of the restaurant is doing great at. * The wings: the wings were good. In fact, they tasted exactly how my mom makes them and she's considered the best cook out of 7 siblings. That being said, 4 wings? I know, you probably don't wanna do that either; I blame the economy... and a certain party making the economy worse as we speak. * The pho descriptions on the menu: as a Viet, I even had a hard time discerning what makes each one distinct. I feel like ai would be a good use case here to help Things I'll be coming back for: * Them Banh Mis * The coffees * The homemade limeade & salted plum I appreciate the waitress admitting the limeade was really sweet, so I'll go on a day where I had a good gym sesh or something

So when my family stumbled into Pho 39, a tiny spot with just a handful of tables tucked away from the chaos outside, it felt less like finding a restaurant and more like discovering a Rebel outpost that somehow survived undetected in the middle of Imperial territory. The menu is exactly what you'd expect from a solid Vietnamese spot: pho, combination rice plates, the usual lineup. We were ready to order and move on with our lives. Then we saw the tacos. Vietnamese tacos. On the menu. Sitting right there between the banh mi and the spring rolls like they'd always belonged. Nobody in my family said anything for a full three seconds, which for us is basically a standing ovation. We ordered the duck spring rolls to start, which were fresh, well packed, and disappeared faster than a starfighter in hyperspace. For the mains we went with the beef flank pho and the banh mi combination special. The pho had a clean, well developed broth that clearly had some time put into it, and the beef flank was tender enough to make you slow down and pay attention. The banh mi combo was solid, balanced, and hit all the right notes. We did not get the tacos this visit, which means we have a built in reason to return and nobody can argue with that logic. For a small room in the middle of one of the busiest cities on the planet, Pho 39 manages to feel genuinely calm and focused. Good food, good value, and a menu with enough surprises to keep things interesting. The Force is strong with this little spot.
