Their spicy red sauce is deliciously spicy and thats why its only a tad they give! Delicious coffee balanced w the salted top and wow the coffee flavor is just right perfectly balanced. Around the corner bathroom essentially just what you need with towel and hand dryer. Pork jowl w grilled okra- sweet and smokey just lil oily. Bun cha- yummy grilled meat and patties refreshing herbs (mints and lettuce cucumbers), just tad bit salty broth. Turmeric noodle- Homey but too thick for my bestie palate and was just ok. They do grilled meats really well and we shouldve gotten crispy chicken leg instead. Friendly staff and attentive, stale rice cracker.

Vietnamese food is really having a moment in 2026 NYC, and Moc Mac was a nice option for a sit down meal. They have a nice cocktail menu with really interesting drinks. The pandan coconut foam topping the drink was really unique in texture and taste. For food, the smaller plates were fun to share, with some really tasty broths and great beef patties in one dish. Unfortunately the wings were a bit dry, they didn't have much flavor. And one of the noodle dishes didn't add much to the meal. Still a good experience overall but I do wish they were consistent with flavor across dishes; I'd still come back for some select items though!

Came on a weeknight, no wait but wasn't empty. Really matters what you order here, felt like I didn't try their star dishes this visit. What we ordered- - Tamarind wings: wasn't a huge fan of this personally. Felt a bit dry and under seasoned compared to ones I've tried at other spots. - Bun cha: super flavorful and really large portions. Can get a bit monotonous though, I would recommend going family style. Appetizer came out pretty quick but felt a little understaffed. Heard great things about their small plates, will have to try that next time.

Went to try the central Vietnamese pancake & Saigon chicken rice and loved the Saigon chicken rice but the pancake was soso to me .. I preferred the Vietnamese pancake with Nước chấm sauce then this sauce

Bold tangy flavors with a good amount of spice. However, they gave our dish to the other table by accident, left it there for a while, and then took the same dish back and gave it to our table, which I think is a very unsanitary practice. Betel leaf Wagyu - beef was soft with a good char. A slight earthiness due to the leaf. Well seasoned with the lemongrass and spices. Wrapping it in the vermicelli and the lettuce and then pouring some of the tangy sauce balanced the dish out really nicely Hue steamed rice cakes - have had better at another restaurant, felt like the rice cakes were too thick here, and there wasn't enough contrast of textures between the toppings and rice cake Saté grilled squid - this was fantastic! The squid was not super chewy but also retained that nice spring. That lemongrass chili sauce was sooooo good From Hué with Clams - this was ok, nothing super special. I liked that the pork crackling wasn't super hard. The soup that came with it (I think it's clam soup) was a nice palate cleanser. Clam was slightly fishy. Got it with vermicelli and that is the correct choice for this dish. Yogurt drink - Pretty refreshing, and there are bits of like candy jelly at the bottom you can eat.

If you know Vietnamese people in New York, you've likely heard the Viet food scene in the city is uninspired at best, and totally flavorless. This is why many people outside the culture only know the cuisine for banh mi and pho, when there is such a breadth of different dishes this dynamic cuisine has to offer. Which is why I was so excited to dine at Moc Mac with a Vietnamese friend, who delighted at the vast array of dishes they serve here, not seen at most other Viet spots in the city. We were there during lunch on a Thursday and excited to see mostly other Vietnamese folks dining in, which was a good sign. We settled on wings, huế steamed rice cakes, baby clam bites, and Quang Nam golden noodle. I'll just cut right to the chase and say every single dish was bland. I know hue steamed rice cakes really require a heaping spoonful of fish sauce to be flavorful, but even with each bite dressed, the shallots, pork, and shrimp did little to add flavor to each bite, which was supposed to be an easy win. I felt similarly about the baby clams, which was served with a stale rice cracker that we didn't finish. The wings were the worst dish, incredibly dry and overcooked. The Quang Nam noodle dish was okay. The ingredients sounded promising, wide rice noodles in a light turmeric broth, topped with sautéed shrimp, braised pork, quail eggs, peanuts, herbs, and sesame crackers. But we didn't finish this dish either. I think they really overcook their protein here. A saving grace was the charming ambience and friendly servers, which made the overall dining experience pretty relaxing, despite none of the food being good enough to want any more of it. I see their ratings creeping up from when they first opened, but imho they need a little QA in their kitchen to really stand out among their competitors.

Walked in at 7:30 PM on a Thursday and here was no wait. I tried the Banh beo hue / hue steamed rice cakes and Pho bap hoa bo vien / meatballs and shank pho. Both were fantastic! I liked this place just as much as bahn anh em - and you can get in without the hassle.

Some of the best viet food i've had in nyc but definitely very pricey and the service was very slow. waited 30-40 mins for our food to come out. the yogurt drink was very good! the pho was delicious but why is pho $25 in nyc. the hot pot was very delicious but again, so pricey. The broth of both soups was very flavorful and had lots of umami.

Such a cute little place in the East Village! The interior was also cute. Service was very attentive and quick, our server gave us recommendations on what was the most popular dishes on the menu. The food itself was a little salty, likely due to the fish sauce but all in all it was decent! I'd come back to try another dish.

Mộc Mạc is a Vietnamese restaurant in NYC, specializing in dishes from Central and Southern regions of Vietnam. There is limited street parking but you should be able to find parking or take MTA public transportation. We were lucky to find parking walking distance to the restaurant. The first thing that hits you is the strong fish sauce smell when you first enter. Once you get settled in, the smell becomes less noticeable. I don't recommend bringing a jacket or coat that will absorb odor easily. We tried three appetizers. The Wagyu betel leaves, the banh beo, and the banh Xeo. My favorite of the three was the Wagyu betel leaves rolls. I did not particularly like the banh beo, but two others in the party enjoyed it. Reason, the dough was too thick, and I am comparing to ones that I have had back home that's better. The banh Xeo was unique with the added pork patties. Normally, when made traditionally, you would use pork belly. I understand the pork patties is an easier substitute that require less time to prepare for a restaurant. I'll place it as a third option of the three appetizer, least likely to order again. The pho and mi Quang noodles (golden noodles) were both unique and flavorful. The restaurant uses fresh pho noodles. The broth was only slightly aromatic. There is a subtle saltiness and more sweetness to the broth. If you are looking for a more central Vietnamese noodle with strong fish flavors, I recommend the mi Quang. The salty pork flavor of the broth and chewer noodles and crackers for texture will give you quite the central Vietnamese culinary experience. If we had not already had a full meal at a Japanese restaurant nearby, we were restaurant hopping, we would have tried more dishes. I would have liked to try the fish and seafood hot pot and baby clams. Until next time, the service was outstanding and I highly recommend.

The girlies knew what they were talking about when they recommended the betel wagyu app!! I'd come back for this dish alone - very decently portioned and the sauce that comes with it is refreshing and tinged with some spice. I love how the vermicelli is cooked here and is thin and fragrant. Such an amazing bite for $22, I'd get this as an entree alone! We also tried the golden noodles with turmeric for $24. The double protein was exciting but this dish fell short - the 2 pieces of shrimp were way too over cooked and they were too firm. There's half an egg - I'm always curious because why does the other half of my egg go into someone else's dish hahaha. The noodles are actually a really good texture but something about the flavor of the broth gave us flavor fatigue really fast. We stopped in after a workout for a late dinner around 8:15PM and the hostess gave us a 30 min wait time so we actually had some skewers from a place around the corner otherwise we might have gotten 2 entrees. The staff are all SO nice although it is quite noisy even later into the night.

I came here recently for dinner and thought that the food was alright. As all Vietnamese people know in NYC, there is a lack of good Vietnamese food. However, with the opening of this restaurant, I was hoping for that fact to change. The interior of the restaurant is really cute, and the service is great. We ordered their bo la lot, banh xeo/khoai, mi quang, and bun cha. Out of all of them, our favorites were the bo la lot and bun cha. While I did feel that the bun cha was a bit bland, it was still overall good and the pork was flavorful. The bo la lot was also a favorite. However, the banh xeo and mi quang was a bit of a let down for me. I felt that the mi quang had too much onion and was also too bland. I've tried the mi quang from their sister restaurant, High Lua, and it was so different compared to the one here. And, don't even get me started on the banh xeo. Nearly the entire inside of the banh xeo was filled with egg--similar to an omelette. It completely changed the flavor profile of the banh xeo and you couldn't taste anything but the egg. It was also served with peanut sauce, which is interesting. Overall, I was very unimpressed with the food here--albeit, the ambiance and service were stellar.

My Vietnamese friends recommended this spot as one of their favorites in NYC so far! My friend and I split small plates to share. Everything was delicious and perfect size, although I'm not sure if we would've been as satisfied splitting those plates with a larger party (4 people?? I'd be getting like only 2 pieces of each of the small plates). Personal favorites were the pork jowl and the bánh bèo huế. I liked the squid at first, but there were some large pieces in the mix which were very chewy/awkward to eat (my friend laughed at me as I tried chewing this huge piece that I couldn't quite bite through lol)

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

We left me with plenty of time to get there walk around the city go to dinner and then head to the next stop. TRAFFIC!! Awful, terrible, dream crushing traffic! It was bumper-to-bumper almost immediately getting out of Maine. I'm staring at the clock, watching the arrival time get later and later and my son's face go further and further from the glowing smile it had started with. I try to call the restaurant, knowing no one would be there to answer. They didn't open till 4 o'clock, and it was 10 AM. I have my husband sent an email saying that we might be late. Then traffic starts to clear up and it says we're gonna arrive in New York around 245. Awesome! No traffic picks up again and it goes back to 6 PM. We finally get a call from the restaurant, they moved things around and offered us a reservation at 5:25pm, but it was the best they could do. Their best was enough, we made it there by 5:15. Thanks to the amazing staff at sip and guzzle, my son was able to have his birthday dinner at the place he'd been dreaming about for months. Mackenzie and Kamila greeted us at the door, we had spoken to Kamila on the phone and she was just as wonderful in person. She led us to a nice corner booth where we weren't all crammed in and left us in the hands of our server, Angie. Unfortunately, they were sold out of cheeseburgers. MOCHI FRIES Creative, crispy and unique, the nacho powder dip is an interesting touch, I preferred it without. SPICY TUNA was disappointing, we were told to alternate side because one was meant to be sticky rice the other tuna. SHRIMP TOAST fried shokupan stuffed with royal red shrimp and lobster This was strange, it wasn't bad, wasn't amazing. The first taste and smell was soapy, like fancy soap. The texture is amazing. It almost had an herb chicken salad flavor. Definitely interesting and worth the bite. ELECTRIC CHICKEN hot and crispy This was FUN!! The presentation, the flavor. It really hit upfront with scechuam pepper. Szechuan pepper is more a feeling than a taste and really elevates the experience. If you've never had Szechuan pepper this is a good place to start your adventure with it. This came out with their addictive cabbage, not by request, it just happened that way. So obviously I wanted to see if they were friends, they are, bites together suggested. ROYALE WITH CHEESE a5 wagyu Yes we ordered $150 sandwich, shamelessly. If this is the only thing you can get, get it! It comes with sour house made pickles. I suggest being careful with those, there's no need to overpower the flavor of what is already here.
