I've been wanting to try Naks weekend brunch for a while now, but you have to be on top of reservations because they only come out a week in advance. They were a little slow to open on Saturday morning, but when they did, the line moved smoothly and we were seated in the middle section. We ordered: KFC Sandwich $18 - includes golden fried chicken pieces with a, garlic aioli, and vinegar fries on the side. This was a little messy to eat, but the chicken was moist and cooked well. The fries were good, but a little inconsistent in texture. Some pieces were hard while other's soft. Salted Egg Pancake $16 - includes one large thick pancake with citrus butter, and salted egg cream. The pancake was good, but I did not really taste the salted eff flavor. Crab Omelette $28 - included slow simmered dungeness crab, aromatic coconut sauce, and garlic toast. There was a good amount of crab and the omelet reminded me of a light Thai curry flavor. Garlic toast is always a nice addition. Pancit Batil Patong $25 - included stir-fried egg noodles, seasoned ground beef, pork chicharron, and a fried egg. This was our favorite dish. A modern Filipino fusion eatery by the same origins of Semma. Food: I tried the Kinilaw, KFC, adobo rice, shrimp laing, kare-kare, and ube cheesecake. I also got the Zesto cocktail. The entire meal was a delight! My favorites of the meal are the zesto, KFC, adobo rice, and ube cheesecake. The cocktails overall are so delicious, highly highly recommend getting the zesto. The Kanuo Fried Chicken tastes like what I wish the real KFC would: savory, tender, crispy. Some of the best fried chicken I've had in a while. From the crunchy pork rinds to the aromatic peppercorn, the adobo rice with its plethora of flavors and textures was an amazing journey soy and garlic. The ube cheesecake with its iconic ube squiggle on top of luscious cheesy base was a playful delicious of salty and sweet. Service: Service was great! Finally got to try this place! It's hard to get a reservation if it's not early ~5pm or late ~9pm so book ahead if you want to get a prime slot dinner res. We went on a Saturday at 5:15pm. It was pretty big of a venue so you could try walking in for a small group. Food was great and very filling1 We tried the adobe rice, Kinilaw (raw tuna app), and the caldereta (lamb chops). Every thing was delicious. I am a big fan of garlic rice but the chef recommends not getting garlic rice with the lambchops. I agreed it didn't need it but it complemented the well in the adobe rice. I've had this place saved on Instagram for the longest time. I tried to come for brunch the Saturday before (party of 5) and tried to walk in when the restaurant opened at 11:30 am. Unfortunately, we were immediately told that they would not be taking any walk-ins So, just one friend and I snagged a reservation for the following Saturday. This time around they did let in a few walk-ins at the bar, but they cut that off pretty quickly. It seems the space is much larger than you would expect. We were seated right in front by the window so I didn't go back and explore, but the more you know. Staff were really lovely and attentive and gave us a few recommendations as well. Pancit Kabute - There is no subtle way to explain that this is hands down one of the best noodle dishes I have ever had. So creamy and mushroomy; the fried egg on top is such a perfect addition. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS. I will be back for this over and over and over... Classic Filipino Platter with Chicken Adobo - Just really classic and simple. Very well made, loved the chicken. Comes with a lovely, gingery broth. Salted Egg Pancake - Delicious and the perfect way to end the brunch on a sweet note. Tastes almost like an elevated corn cake (maybe even pound cake). The addition of citrus is so perfect. You can't go here and not get this (this is what first caught my eye on social media actually). Naks feels like a tropical escape the moment you walk in. The interior is beautiful, filled with vibrant colors, and the open kitchen greets you with incredible aromas right away. It sets the tone for a really immersive dining experience. The food and drinks absolutely delivered. The kinilaw was a great start. Beautifully presented, spicy, and refreshing. The standout of the night was the lechon platter, which was incredibly flavorful with perfectly crispy pork belly and easily enough food for more than two people. Luckily the brunch menu has dinner variations so we did get to try their KFC and crab filling. Would probably skip the platter dish altogether. The crab omelette though was delicious and had a healthy amount of crab chunks. The pancit kabute was also great. I feel like I would probably recommend picking dinner over brunch just for the more extensive menu and the desserts like the ube cheesecake, but brunch was still delicious! The effect is almost like an Italian fusion dish. There's a bit of calamansi to add some brightness, I definitely could've used some more. It was smothered in a mild peanut butter sauce and came with fermented shrimp on the side, which I liked but it didn't go well with the dish. Naks is trying to elevate Filipino food with more complex dishes, presentation, atmosphere (and prices) They have fancy looking cocktails, the vegetable spring rolls come in a brown paper bag and are opened up steaming hot in front of you, and they mix up your dishes for you at the table. While the vibes are great, I wouldn't say it's worth the price. The crab curry comes in a little crab shell but tasted very similar to other Thai curries. For the adobo rice they only make a certain number each day. This was my favorite dish. With fall off the bone, bone-in chicken that's really tender and also has juicy pork belly. The crispy lechon pork belly they serve in the dish was a bit dry though. The beef egg noodles weren't really anything of note. Would want to try the pancit kabute next time. Was a bit disappointed they didn't have the one vegan dish available for our vegan friend and the waitress / bartender at our bar seating wasn't super helpful with the vegan optional items on the menu. I was recently in NYC for a family wedding. Knowing that I have been dying to check out a Filipino restaurant in New York, my non-Filipino partner surprised me with reservations at Naks. We really loved the vibe. The decor felt very modern Filipino and everyone on staff was soooo nice. Our server was friendly and attentive and happily helped guide us through the menu. The food was delicious! It was not quite the flavors of my family's cooking, but nonetheless yummy and a great representation of our culture. A friend had recommended Naks a while ago, since he had lunch there and thought we'd love it. I put it on the list, but it wasn't until another friend asked if we wanted to go on a double-date with her and her husband, did we finally make plans to go. I had made reservations the week before on Resy for a random Thursday night at 6pm. We were seated upon arrival in the back room. I was actually quite surprised to see how far back the dining areas went! It was Restaurant Week, but we had really come in with two very specific dishes in mind, so we opted to just order off the regular menu and share everything. For drinks, our table had - - Calamansi Spritz - Para Sa Paborito Kong Apo - Parusang Hapon - Ambaboy I had the Parusang Hapon , which was good. But I think my friend's Ambaboy, with the lechon fat washed bourbon was more my style. For food, we split: - Lumpiang Gulay - Pancit Batil Patong - Adobo Rice - Ginataang Alimango - Kare-Kare (n) Everything was really good. The tangy spiced vinegar dip that came with the Lumpiang Gulay was fantastic and we all used so much of it. The Pancit was probably my 2nd favorite dish of the night. It was filled to the brim of goodies and I'm always a sucker for pork chicharron and chicken liver. My favorite dish of the entire night was the Kare-Kare. Braised beef cheeks in a delicious and rich peanut stew, it was comforting, warm, and so full of flavor. The Ginataang Alimango, slow simmered dungeness crab in aromatic coconut sauce was really good with rice and honestly a much bigger portion than we had expected. The only dish I think I would've skipped was the Adobo Rice, because it was just fine. For dessert, we got both - the Leche Flan and the Ube Cheesecake. Both were absolutely fantastic and I highly suggest getting both. But I have to say I was a bigger fan of the Leche Flan, since I am a flan girlie. I ordered the kanto fried chicken to start, the serving size was fairly generous for an appetizer. The fried chicken was well seasoned and packed with flavor, the meat was not dry at all! The kare-kare with braised beef cheeks, eggplant, and bokchoy served with a side of bangoong was amazing. The shrimp paste adds another depth of salty umami flavor to an already tasty dish. Everything was cooked well and fork tender. Naks serves up bold and delicious Filipino comfort food. I wish this wasn't my second meal of the night lol. The lechon was cooked to perfection as there was a crispy outer skin with the juicy fat and tender meat all melted on top of rice. I loved how big the cuts of meats were and were surprised that the restaurant categorized this as the carbs section rather than a main. This is a must get and makes me sad I didn't order the lechon. Naks means "Wow!" in Tagalog and my Filipino-American heart was screaming it the whole night. I took my brother here for his birthday and everything was a knockout. The cocktails were dangerously good. My "Para Sa Paborito Kong Apo" (for my fave grandchild) with gin, mezcal, campari, ginger, citrus sherbet, chile came out flaming, hub's Calamansi Spritz was pure sunshine, and my brother's Parusang Hapon and Ambaboy were rich, smoky trouble in a glass. Yum! Every drink slapped, no regrets. Food? Unreal. The Kinilaw was so fresh I wanted to drink the broth. The. Liempo was smoky, sticky joy and the Adobo Rice got mixed tableside like a mini food show. The mains: Kare-Kare, Caldereta, and boneless Alimango (crab, slightly spicy) had me emo in the best way. Overall: A+ // 6 stars Naks is an elevated take on FIlipino fare with a harmonious balance paying homage to traditional roots and elevating dishes with aesthetics and flavor development. This restaurant nailed the cooking of every single dish whilest impressively adding layers of depth. The vibes, especially the back room, was quite cozy and I love the open-kitchen atmosphere as well. The staff were friendly and attentive, checking in after each dish, and providing very culinary-forward descriptions of their dishes in an insightful way. Highly recommend! (Pork BBQ: A+) - This has to be one of the most tender pieces of pork I have ever consumed. The banana ketchup, although not as banana forward as I imagined, helped bring together the sweet and savory crossover to elevate the flavor profile. I loved the pickled green papaya as well for some contrastive acidity, although I wish we would've seen more of that beauty. (Lumpiang Hubad: B) - Despite the small portion, the flavor profile makes up for it -- the peanut crumble adds texture to that seductive peanut sauce that adds a beautiful sweetness to the cooling seasonal vege. (Ambaboy: B) - This cocktail is conceptually interesting leading with fat washed bourbon and accompanied by plantain and a lemongrass infusion. Unfortunately, I felt like the flavors were a bit too subtle to distinguish, which was a little saddening. (Ginataang Alimango: A+) - This crab curry is everything I wished for in a crab dish! There is an abundance of crab meat without having the hassle of deconstructing the crab itself. Further, the light coconut curry adds a subtle sweetness that complements the crab in a symbiotic way. I love the smart use of the crab shell to serve the curry itself as well. (Beef Pares: A+) - The flavor development in that broth is out of this world. We start with a citrus-forward savory sauce, with a spicy chili afterkick -- but this description does not serve the beauty of this justice. We had a weekend reservation for brunch. The restaurant is pretty large, but it does get filled up. The service was decent and we ordered the classic filipino platter, crab omelette, pancit kabute, and salted egg pancake. Every was good, but the portions were on the smaller side.
